    Rose Lychee Coconut Pudding
    Rose T.

Tong Sui means "sweet soup" in Chinese, but this chain doesn't serve up classic Chinese desserts. Instead, drinks & puddings made from organic, all natural ingredients are featured on the menu. I ordered the Rose Lychee Coconut Pudding ($10.95) at the kiosk and waited for my name to be called. Since the puddings are premade and sitting in the fridge, it would be more efficient if customers could order with a cashier and receive them immediately. +Coconut pudding was creamy +Rose jelly was fragrant yet didn't taste like perfume +Refreshing & not too sweet +Aesthetically pleasing with the pink & white layers in the branded glass jar -Other than the 2 lychee pieces, the lychee flavor was muddled. -Small for the price Side notes: 1.) Rewards: Return 10 glass jars get 1 free 2.) Indoor seating 3.) Walking distance from Redwood City Caltrain station *Verdict: Definitely a splurge, but it was unlike any other desserts I've had and I plan on returning to try other flavors!

Coco mango with crystal boba or Coco papaya with crystal boba (with coconut milk). Go with either of these 2 and you wont regret it! They also serve coconut pudding dessert here which is good, but I find that it pales in comparison to Melo Melo. If you prefer a less creamy/ sweet version, then Tong Sui's coconut pudding dessert is probably the one for you. Otherwise, stick to the drinks!

I have never been to a Tong Sui before and I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful lychee coconut pudding. It was flavorful, unique, and wonderfully refreshing. It is definitely an experience I plan to repeat.

Their coconut pudding is so great! We tried their signature and mango pudding they taste so good. Not heavy at all. Even they provide some count flakes for decorations with more flavors. Highly recommended!

Love Tong Sui! If you're a coconut fan, this is a must visit because Tong Sui is one of my favorite places for coconut desserts. I also love that they have my favorite drink, hojicha. Everything here is so good that I cannot complain. The ingredients are fresh and high quality, and there is outdoor seating available. It is conveniently located in downtown Redwood City. Highly recommend!

    T14 Mango Mochi Coconut Pudding

I like the idea of this place and the many options to choose from. The branding is cute and I like that everything is in glass jars. Service at this location was great and we got to try a few of the puddings. The mango mochi one was a little disappointing. The mango wasn't "mango-ey" enough (I was expecting fresher and more tart mango bits or puree). The mochi was sooo soft it got lost in the pudding; I was expecting it to be firmer and chewier. The coconut pudding is good but almost not flavorful enough (a little too light on the coconut cream/milk). Overall, not sure if I'll be back since it's also a little pricey. If you've never had any other coconut pudding then you might like this, but they're missing flavor in my opinion!

Very refreshing for a hot day mango was really great cashier "Francisco" gave magnificent customer service answering all questions without a rush 10/10 for a first time!

Updating my review to include some notes about bubble tea. They have some coconut milk and coconut water based drinks but to my surprise they also have non coconut based bubble tea. I am actually not a big fan of coconut so I wanted to try their other stuff. I got this milky persimmon drink for my spouse and it was pretty thick and frothy. There was a persimmon taste to it! I tried the da hong pao with boba and it was not bad. Less sweet is actually not very sweet at all so I would consider trying regular sweet next time. Boba was not super chewy but to be fair we went very late in the day so I would try again later when it's earlier in the day.

I love their desserts and drinks! They are not too sweet and their options are yummy! I ordered a box of 6 puddings and got a pair of cute holiday socks in a cool carry out box. Their matcha strawberry cream was a perfect balance of flavors and textures and their pomegranate lemon tea was refreshing. Durian pudding... nuff said!

Tong Sui, or sugar water (dessert soup) in Chinese, has slowly spawned over the lower part of the bay area somewhat through the years. I'm not sure why, because they certainly don't serve actual tong sui and weren't the first to make coconut pudding, though they were the first to market the heck out of it. It's funny because my mom always made coconut pudding for get-togethers and mahjong nights, and I never really acknowledged or appreciated it until I realized how they can mark this thing up for $10+ in single-serving jars! Yeah, they use good quality ingredients and it does taste good and creamy, but still. Next thing you know, they'll make almond jello hip or something. In a nutshell, Tong Sui is a pricier gentrified Chinese boba tea place that uses higher quality ingredients with seasonal rotations, though I've never felt inclined to return. The menu selection is a bit limited, and sometimes weird. Like, they'll have a citrus drink but add milk to it or something, or add coconut water to something that already has a creamy base. Also, their drinks on average, with a topping, are basically $10 which makes me pretty uncomfortable. For this RWC location, be prepared for your order to take 20 minutes even with a couple people in front of you, on a Friday at 2-3pm (my other visits also took a while). The boba is very mediocre; it just lacks flavor and chew, and is kind of hard. I threw away the boba. The taro balls are much better, with a pleasant chew and starchy taste. The tea strength is good, as well as the ice level, and the cream is tasty. They excel at coconut things; their other flavors are a mixed bag (and their lemons are sour). Just order what you like or something coconutty. Their drink cups are matte and pretty durable and cool; the lid is neat and snappy. Great boba drink hardware, but you're paying for it. If you buy their coconut milk desserts, they do this recycle thing where if you buy 10 and return the jars, you'll get a free one. They also do a discount on the da hao pong latte w/ jelly on rainy days. My favorite thing about Tong Sui is that they don't charge you for milk substitutes, so they're very friendly to people of all lactose levels. Also, cute to-go bag.

Be weary of the high ratings here, as they often prmote freebies or rewards in exchange for 5 star reviews. My actual experience was terrible. As usual with the chain no customization allowed for the drinks, which was strange as at some other locations I have been able to change one ingredient (like coconut milk for dairy milk). Sometimes when a drink is made poorly you can ask for a different one, at this location I was given a hard time for a simple request. Most alarmingly though one of the drinks was so bad that made me really sick, I felt like the ingredients were expired and/or rotten. If you are good with no customization you might like this place

The boba is consistently good, with that perfect chewy texture and just the right amount of sweetness. I recently tried the coconut pudding and it's definitely a new favorite. Smooth, creamy, and not too sweet, it's a great add-on or even good on its own. If you're looking for drink recommendations, the mango and strawberry matcha are hands down the best ones in my opinion. Super refreshing, balanced flavors, and they look just as good as they taste.

Unfortunately, this visit felt like a restaurant that's lost some of its spark. Happy hour was actually a pleasant surprise. The prices are excellent and make it easy to sample a variety of dishes. The Polpette and prosciutto with melon were enjoyable, but the croquettes were forgettable. The mussels and shrimp didn't taste particularly fresh, which was disappointing. The chicken had an unusual texture--somewhere between a chicken nugget and a crab cake. It just wasn't for me, The biggest letdown was the Bigoli e Coda. The pasta still had its signature chewy texture, but the sauce felt oily instead of rich, the braised oxtail lacked the deep, slow-cooked flavor I remembered, and the entire dish desperately needed seasoning. It used to be one of those dishes I'd recommend without hesitation. Not anymore. The seafood entrée was probably the strongest dish of the night, but even there it fell short. The fish was properly cooked, yet the skin lacked the crisp, golden finish that makes a skin-on fillet so satisfying. It was another dish that felt underseasoned and never quite came to life. That was really the theme of the evening: almost everything felt underseasoned. Nothing was inedible--it just lacked the vibrant flavors and careful execution that made Donato stand out years ago. I'm hoping this was simply an off night because Donato has earned a lot of goodwill over the years. But when a longtime favorite no longer tastes like the restaurant you remember, it's hard not to leave a little disappointed.

My family and I stopped by Marvel Cake during Mother's Day for a sweet treat on Sunday. This location is in the strip of Downtown Palo Alto and has limited parking (similar to the rest of the stores there, there is a lot of parking, and you will need to get lucky). My mom does like the Marvel Cake in their first location, so we swung by here to try this one out! Location-wise, this is a smaller shop than the original one in West San Jose with limited seating inside. I would say it's not work from home friendly however, I did see a college student next to me on her laptop so maybe I am incorrect here! The interior is nice and light, matching the elegance of the desserts. We ordered three items on the menu: the pillow cake, the bisou, and the blueberry lavender roll. Here are some thoughts: * Pillowcase cake: It may seem like this would be a fluffy cake due to the nature of its shape, but it is a gelatinous Jell-O cake with fruit jam. It was not bad, and tasted refreshing and light. I didn't know if I liked it at first, but ultimately I did come back for seconds and thirds, so this is approved. * Blueberry lavender roll cake: This was not at all what we were expecting. I did not taste any lavender, nor did it have a strong blueberry flavor. I think what threw our party off was the layer of gelatin that surrounded the cake. Texturally, we were not a big fan. * Bisou: This one was our favorite one. I appreciated the nutty crust in the bottom layer of the cake, while the filling was soft and bouncy. It is very sweet, however, but overall, I really enjoyed this one and feel like it would go great with a cup of coffee. What made the experience here a 3 instead of a 4 or 5 was the service we got. We weren't greeted when we came in, which, to be fair, is totally fine, maybe they were busy. However, the person helping us stared at us the whole time and did not really communicate well with us. When I tried to order the cakes for my family, they looked bothered that we were there, and I was not sure if they understood what pastries I was ordering because they did not repeat it back to us at all or confirm anything. When I did place the order, they slowly grabbed the plates and looked visually confused, which again, if they wanted to, I could have repeated it back to them. After they gathered everything, they put it in front of us and rang me up. The whole time, they did not say a word to me at all. Did not reconfirm anything, did not acknowledge we were there, did not say thank you. It was a bit strange, and I had to check with my family if it was me or if that was a really weird experience (it wasn't me).
