I went with my friend the opening when you first walk in the store is pretty small so if there are people inside be prepared to squish yourself around. The outside of the store has a large pink rabbit and is great for cute photo opportunities, the chairs inside and outside are pink which fits their theme pretty well. Everything inside the store is mostly pink, and they have a small wall on your right when you first walk in with trinkets and other small items. I ordered a mango matcha the matcha was well concentrated and not too watered down, the ice cream that came with the drink was so delicious. It was creamy, smooth, and not too bitter but you still taste the green tea/matcha flavor. Make sure to mix the drink because the mango chunks at the bottom help sweeten and add depth to the matcha. My friend got a crème brûlée pudding drink (I think I am not sure what it is called) and she said it was good. The pudding was soft but still dense which made it easy to break and drink up with the straw, the milk tea was also very good, it was sweet but not too sweet with the small chunks of pudding was amazing though. It took about 10-15 minutes for them to finish our two drinks, and with other people ordering, online orders too, and the complexity of the drinks their workers worked fast and efficiently which was a really nice. Portions were so small for the price, shop interior was dirty and clearly lacking care. There was a huge pile of dirty fabric with wires running through it - what looked like an inflatable mascot that's all deflated and filthy in the corner partially blocking the order machine. It's so damn sad seeing Ume go lower and lower. When one of the first ones opened in LA I remember the huge portions with toppings so rich it felt like slurping on sweet porridge. I decided to return to Ume...and I deeply regret it. I placed my order for a Brown Sugar Boba & Mochi Black Milk Tea, and the Popcorn Chicken&Fries Combo at 1:28pm. By 1:35 I asked the girl at the counter about my order as there were only 2 other customers and she snapped at me and said "not ready yet. Wait" Umm...yeah not a problem. 1:45 I asked again because I had been waiting almost 20 minutes for my order as, once again she snaps at me said "have some patience. It's not ready yet." Ok but 2/3 of the employees are standing around doing NOTHING. not making drinks or anything. At 1:49 she calls my name and TOSSES my order at me causing some fries to spill, and points at my drink and says "there's your drink. Bye" Once I sat down, and took my first bite I was saddened to discover my food isn't hot. It's not even warm. Which makes me wonder how long it had been sitting behind the counter. Stopped by Ume Tea and tried a mix of drinks and snacks: mini taro black milk tea, lychee watermelon green tea, mini chicken strips, popcorn chicken, fried tofu, and curly fries. Starting with the positives. The drinks tasted okay overall. Nothing amazing, but decent and drinkable. The snacks were also fine, with the popcorn chicken and curly fries being the better items among what we ordered. That said, there were a few issues that knocked the experience down. The drinks didn't look like the photos shown on the menu or online, which was a little disappointing. More importantly, the wait time was long. It took about 30 minutes to get our order even though the place wasn't busy. Another confusing part was the pickup process. The drinks apparently came out first, but they were just sitting on the counter and we weren't notified. We only realized later when the food was called. On top of that, I didn't receive a text notification until about 10 minutes after I had already left. Overall, Ume Tea is okay if you're nearby and craving a quick drink or snack, but the slow service and communication issues leave room for improvement. read more

Went here on a Saturday evening and it was pretty crowded but lively. I got the coconut mango drink. The mango flavor was nice, but there was barely any coconut and way too much slush ice, so didn't feel like a good value. Ordering is done through a kiosk, and they tack on a mandatory service fee. I came here for the Bunny Surprise Cup, which is a fun idea -- there's a little plushie hidden in a compartment under your drink for about $4-5 extra. I've tried it a few times with friends and while it's a cute concept, the plushies at this location haven't been the best. There's about a high chance you'll get this small circular bear that's not very cute (bottom left of the photo I post). Some of the Sanrio ones are adorable and definitely worth it, but at this location there is no guarantee. The drinks themselves are mostly great! I recommend the Mango Coco Smoothie, any of the peach drinks, the Thai Tea Crème Brûlée if you're into sweet drinks, and the classic boba milk tea (or classic boba milk tea with mochi). The fruit teas are ok -- some of the toppings don't pair well. The biggest downside: service during peak hours. I came around lunch (12-1:30pm) and ordered 4 (four) drinks, and it took ~40 minutes for them to be ready -- and only after I asked the staff / let them know we had to leave. That wait time is unacceptable for boba drinks. I've never had that issue when I came in the afternoon (4-6pm). Overall, I had an okay experience here, but the long wait during busy times is a real downside. Probably wouldn't come here if I was in a hurry. read more

The only reason why this place is getting 3 stars is because of the solo employee who busted his a** all afternoon last Friday. He was the only person working the bar and had no assistance. I'm not even sure if he's the manager but this guy deserves all the credit and a raise. He kept a calm composure throughout the entire ordeal. People were waiting for an hour tops for their milk teas including me and my team. Some people left midway and didn't care for their drink and some even went as far as getting a refund back!! Which is ridiculous because the guy was so busy. After an hour of waiting, we got our drinks. I actually liked my mango-coconut jasmine bloom tea. It was thick, creamy and full of flavor. They either need to hire more people or cross train others to help. There was a woman in the back handling the popcorn chicken meals but most people were ordering drinks so she couldn't help. It's tough. I won't be coming back because this milk teas place is just whatever and nothing too special. Was watch a friend of mine playing in a band on California street. Wifey and I got a little thirsty so we decided to go to Ume Tea. The inside is very whimsical there are definitely tons of photo ops inside this location. The cashier was visibly hostile, responded to us with attitude, rolling her eyes, and continued to mean mug us as we walked to our table. As a paying customer with plenty of other tea options nearby, I won't be returning. As a business owner myself, I'll say this genuinely, if this is how multiple customers are being treated, it becomes a liability, especially in a market as competitive as the Bay Area, where there's always another option around the corner. I generally love Ume Tea and consider them to be in the A-/B+ tier of milk teas in the Bay area. The quality of the tea is great, and I love the rotation of seasonal specials. I will frequent the Millbrae and Burlingame locations frewuently I like the space and vibe of this location. There is plenty of space to sit, it is located in a great neighborhood with plenty of eateries and a parking garage. However, I wasn't a fan of a few things, and I hope it was a one-off. There was one main staff member doing the drinks (and later found out there was one in the back). It took an excessive amount of time for the drink to come out, despite being third on the order list. It did look like the guy was struggling with the multitasking aspect that comes with barista-ing. I also was disappointed in the lack of toppings in my drink compared to what I get at the other Ume stores. And it was disappointing for the bathroom to be out of service, and the worker mentioned above wasn't the warmest when telling me so. I will still go to Ume if given a chance, but with the saturation of boba spots in the South Bay, it's hard to say if I would choose this one moving forward. read more

Have been here a couple times and the snacks are the best out of any other boba places I have tried! Usually the quality is pretty consistent, but I have had times when there isn't enough of the red powder, or the fried octopus is stuck in a huge clump. The boba is also pretty good, but can be heavy / very milky. Getting 50% sweet is usually is a good level for me. My recent visit to Ume Tea in Palo Alto was a delightful experience, similar to the one in Milpitas but with its unique charm. The Palo Alto location has a larger space with plenty of seating, making it an ideal spot to relax and unwind with friends. I found myself drawn to the new rose milk tea they had for Valentine's Day, and it did not disappoint. The rose milk tea was cute in presentation and incredibly delicious. They give you a fake flower and a Valentine's sticker with the drink. The floral fragrance was perfectly balanced, not overwhelming, and provided a refreshing twist to the classic milk tea. It made me want to get another one. The ambiance at Ume Tea added to the overall positive experience. The spacious layout and comfortable seating created a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for enjoying our drinks and catching up. It's been about a year since I've first tried Ume tea on Cal Ave, and even on Christmas Day, this shop is still poppin. The iPad for ordering was down, so I ordered through a worker. There may have been a language barrier because I had to repeat my order a few times (it wasn't easy to say, either!). Payment went through. 17 minutes later, I still hadn't received my order, which is actually a fairly long time to wait for 2 drinks. However, two parties that ordered after me received their orders, but when I inquired about my order, the workers couldn't find my order in their system although I had paid, and I could tell they were stressed about my frustration. I asked for a refund, to which they gave me one, and they then offered to make the drinks right there on the spot. Because I was waiting for so long, I wasn't sure if I wanted to wait longer, but I could tell they really wanted to make it up to me. I waited less than 6 minutes for my drinks, and they offered me a popcorn chicken as well. I wanted to write this review to applaud the way they rectified a very frustrating situation, and to genuinely review their menu items. Popcorn chicken: soft on the inside, perfectly crispy and flavorful on the outside! Grape slushie: blended well, full of flavor, definitely one of the top grape slushies I've had! I didn't get toppings, and honestly, I don't need toppings with this drink because it's so good on its own. Strawberry matcha milk tea with matcha ice cream + boba: exactly as described... but they forgot the boba :( Despite the frustrating situation, Ume tea on Cal Ave is there for their customers.
