We went here for Mother's Day brunch. I expected it to be crowded, but nowhere near like what we experienced today. First of all, it was a buffet. They don't mention this on their website, on OpenTable, or when you call. The guy checking us in rudely informed us that we should've checked their Facebook page. You wait in a long line to check in. We had a reservation, but that didn't seem to matter. We were told our table would be ready soon and to wait around. It was like they were herding cattle. An hour later, they finally sat us. The waitress eventually rolled by all out of breath to get our drink orders, which was fine. The food at the buffet ranged from disgusting to mediocre. Nothing was delicious, and things like scrambled eggs were inedible. They won't make you plain eggs at the omelette station either. My brunch was $39 and all I ate were pancakes and bacon. If you need anything at all from your waitress, you have to hunt her down. No one willingly came to check if we needed anything or made enough eye contact to see that we might need help. Getting salt for the table was a 20 minute ordeal. They had big screen TVs showing motocross events, which seemed out of place. So, bottom line, unless you follow them on Facebook prepare to be surprised by changes, the staff are unbelievably rude, and the food is terrible. I will not be coming back. read more

We love to go to this place! Great atmosphere and fantastic food. They also have a great drink menu. Excited to try their new spring menu. I was very surprised to see a low rating for this restaurant. We've been there over 5 times over the past few months and it has been consistent every time. Dirty, disgusting, disrespectful. Will be surprised if it is still in business next year! Came here last night for Easter buffet. 7 pm reservation. Buffet was $50 per person. Received an empty, unattractive buffet. Wait staff was exhausted and clowning around. Were seated in an empty dining room right by the kitchen. Were treated to loud yelling and cursing by the chef. That has Never happened in all my life. Screaming at top of lungs with profanity. Loud screaming, laughing and clowning around by the wait staff. Complained numerous times. Received apologies. Food was greasy and salty. Bathrooms were atrociously dirty to the point that I didn't want to use them. Paper was strewn about, human waste on toilet seats. Can only imagine what the kitchen must look like. Per Georges Perrier . Although one of our 5 meals were comped we still paid over $300 with tip for what we should have walked out on or what should have been priced at $19.95. What should have been a pleasant holiday dinner was awful. I would never ever go back here. For these prices you could go to a restaurant that treats you with respect. They can't even make a burger and fries. Bland burger. Soggy fries. You could buy better sexual favors for $13. The worst part was the fact that they only put in half of our order to be made. One person had food and the other had to wait for a bland burger and soggy fries like the loser waiting to be picked in gym class. Sure, the forgotten burger was free. I would have rather paid for food that was actually good. Forgetting half of a person's order is something McDonalds would do. Five of us had lunch at Teca, and enjoyed sitting on the upper patio outside the dining room. My friends all had salads, but I ordered the margarita pizza and asked for some ricotta to be added. That was no problem. However, the crust was like a slice of bread that was wet. When I picked up a slice, it drooped down and the topping slid off. I could only eat the upper part near the crust. It was as if the pie was put on a very wet plate and adsorbed the water. I won't be getting pizza there again. The waiter was fine, but we were surprised to hear when we ordered coffees, that they were out of cream and half and half. they only had milk! You'd think someone would have gone a 1/2 block away to buy some??? Not impressed. read more

Went with a couple girlfriends after work to enjoy a glass of wine and some appetizers. We ordered the cheese plate, a flat bread and the friend calamari. We also drank the house wine. Portions were very smaller especially on the cheese plate and calamari and the price was not small. Went on Friday Feb 20, 2015 and wasn't sure what to expect with all the positive and negative ratings here on Yelp. Used to enjoy the old Newtown Grille. Well, this was a definite positive for us. The Margherita pizza was phenomenal. The Norwegian salmon was excellent...it was not the standard farm raised salmon that is fed to be bright orange, but was rather more pink in color, to me indicating that it was more naturally sourced. Nice flavor too but maybe cooked a minute too long, but still very good. Wedge salad and butternut squash soup did not disappoint either. Nice wine list with a few from an estate in Tuscany which they have access to, which was very good. Chimay ale on tap was a nice find as well as a wide variety of other nice beers. No complaints on the service, our server was very attentive and helpful. Other staff were pleasant and the person who appeared to be management was congenial and thanked us as we left. So maybe the staff relations have improved from the other reviewers bad experiences...not a single complaint here on the staff. The facility is much upgraded from the prior Grille. We sat at the counter by the pizza oven (which was firing at 700 degrees). This bar/pizza side of the restaurant is primarily all hard surfaces so the noise level, especially since we were there around happy hour, can get up there. If you want more intimacy then go to one of the other rooms which are softer. Enjoy! Will be going back. read more

My wife and I went to Teca last night for the first time. We had the calamari appetizer. It was good, but sadly didn't include the tentacle portion of the squid, only the circular pieces. It wasn't as crispy as I'd like, so it seemed a little "from a bag". We both ordered fish. She had the special, flounder stuffed with crab imperial and I had halibut with a potato base potato frit "hashbrown". The main entrees were delicious and I'd order them again after trying some of their other items. For dessert we had the tiramisu. We both thought it wasn't great. I wouldn't recommend it. Overall the restaurant has a Biltmore, AZ feel. Very upscale, in a good way. So many restaurants in the area try to be upscale, but only succeed at having high prices. In regards to price, we asked a house cab to accompany the meal. They recommended a blend that was similar to a cab. I have no idea why she didn't just give us a cab. It was a decent wine, but not exceptional and definitely not worth over $50. I'd recommend single glasses or cocktails. The staff was very attentive, but not pushy or in the way. We will likely go there again because it was a very enjoyable evening. Now that we are a little more aware of what they have to offer, we'll order more wisely next time. I must say I was impressed with the food. I love that there is authentic Italian Chefs in this place and it really shows. Atmosphere is nice and looks very clean and classy. We were in the wine cellar and had a real great time with our party down there. The service is outstanding. Very classy people here. This is the real deal and I will come back sometime. I have been here for happy hour quite a few times and it really can't be beat. I had a couple glasses of wine with penne vodka and mussels (all happy hour size and price) and was pleasantly surprised. Filling and tasty! I like the vibe of this place a lot, Italian villa but also modern with tvs. I think it would be an excellent location for a bridal shower or rehearsal dinner. I can't comment on an actual lunch or dinner but if it's anything like the happy hour food then I definitely recommend it. read more

Last night was my first time at Teca Newtown Square. my boyfriend and i went to celebrate our 9 year anniversary. I was blown away by the entire experience. the atmosphere was so nice and calming. the soup of the day was italian wedding and that was delicious. i got the herb crusted salmon. it was cooked well, but i was not a huge fan of the flavor. my boyfriend got a filet and of course i had to steal a few bites....amazing!! for desert we had the vanilla, chocolate gelato and raspberry sorbet... so so delicious! the wine was great as well. our experience was made even better because of our waiter, Tony. he was not only so nice and soft spoken but attentive. he was truly wonderful. we will definitely be returning and i cannot wait to try more meals off their menu. read more

We had a 7:30, reservation, but waited over an hour for a table. We were frustrated and ready to leave, but the staff really stepped up. The server and managers went out of their way to make sure we left happy with great service and also comped our desserts. The food was really great, especially the crap napolean app. Update: I went to eat the other half of the $20 Tartufo pizza I bought, and found that it was a box of half eaten pizza crusts. Beautiful restaurant with friendly, personable, and attentive servers and staff. Our waiter, Mike, was extremely attentive and very friendly. We had a great experience because of Mike. We started with a Ceaser salad that was delicious. My wife commented that this was a "real" Ceaser! I had the cannelloni special stuffed with broccoli rabe and Italian sausage. My wife had the Lobster Ravioli and my son had the Spaghetti with Angry Crab Gravy. It was loaded with crab meat. Everything came out piping hot without delay and everything was delicious. We all loved our meals. Our bill was quickly processed and we were in and out in an hour. We had a fantastic experience and I can't think of one negative thing to write. We'll be back. read more

STAY FAR FAR AWAY IF YOU BELIEVE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE and FOOD THAT WILL NOT MAKE YOU SICK. A group of us went to this restaurant and ate. We had made a reservation stating we were to have a birthday celebration and was ensured they would do something special. I guess they all got COVID and forgot this because NOTHING special happened it was actually the worst service and food experience in a long time. We got seated gave us the menu. Almost all options of Gluten Free they were out of per the server when this restaurant is supposed to have many options. No pizza, no pasta, no desert NOTHING all out of it. We got first round of service and then dinner. The service was very slow. We asked for many things including sauces 4 times and did not get it. It took me to get up from the table to ask another server which I later found out was the manager but she failed to tell me at that time. After getting sauce my food at this point was cold. We had asked to speak to manager because several of us was upset with service and food how it came out. Don't get the fish it is FULL OF BONES. We were assured 4 times a manager would come to the table and one was coming. It took almost 35 mins for the table to be even cleared after asking numerous times for it be. Since we were ignored 2 of our people went to sit a clean table and miraculously service appeared immediately. The server gave us a dessert menu to tell us we only that they have 1 desert but would check on the flourless cake. We all ordered this this cake. The server never came back to tell us other wise and next thing we know Crème Brulee showed up and none of us ordered it. Again, we asked for manager. We awaited one and never got one. The bill came and again asked to speak to one again. After awaiting 30 mins we signed the check in which we were very unhappy. We left went to our car thinking calling on phone we would get a manager so we could sort this out. We got voicemail and had to leave message. Within 2 hours of leaving the restaurant myself and another person who I paid for the food for got very sick and was it was coming out both ends to say the least. And continued for 3 days after eating there. Given we never got a call back from the restaurant we call back next day at 4 pm when they opened. Got voicemail. Called again at 530 got voicemail. Called back again at 6 pm and was given a manager who I found out was the lady who brought me my sauce I was asking for that I left the table for. And was told she was sorry she never made it over to us to discuss any issues. Then when I told her I was sick and another person was sick she told me she was in the middle of dinner service and would need to call back later. I said at that time I see you lack skill set to be a manager. You are more worried about tonight's dinners service than last nights and if you would have picked up the phone starting at 4 pm it would not be in middle of dinner service. Later never came. Couple days past and heard nothing. I called back to restaurant again asking for the owner this time and was told he would not been in until the next day. I did speak at that time to a manager to ensure I would get a call back from the owner to address the issues. He assured me one would call and to this day nothing has happened. I am deeply upset I had to pay for food that myself and another person got sick from. We had numerous issues with our food. They have failed to serve us or correct the problem at this point. And I think I have gone above and beyond calling them to address this and I get no attention to the fact how they are serving their customers and making people sick in the process. I am extremely appalled they absolutely do not care to call me back or address this issue. They never answer the phone nor do they call back when say they will. WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE and they should shut down due to their lack of caring for the customer and also the service they lack. IF I COULD DO ZERO STARS I WOULD. read more

I wish I could give "0" stars. I have been meeting a group of friends for dinner once a month for thirty years, that is 360 dinners. We have tried many, many resturants and never have we left an establishment without eating UNTIL TONIGHT. We had hear that Teca had open under new (old) management and decided to give it a try. We had a reservation and was promptly seated. The Resturant was about one quarter fill. So not very busy. We received water in out glasses and menus. And that is where the service stopped. The wine list is extensive but not a lot of medium priced bottles. If one wanted to spend several hundred dollars for a bottle of wine, I doubt one would be in this establishment. It didn't matter, because no one came to ask us what we wanted. After 30 minutes, We stopped a well dressed gentleman passing by and asked if we might place an order for wine. He looked down his nose at us and his response was,"what color would you like?" We placed orders for four glasses of wine and 16 minutes later, we just gave up and left. Our evening was ruined. My only consolation is the knowledge that this place will not be in business for another 6-9 months. With the reviews I've read, and the distinction of being the worst dining experience I've had in 30 years, they can not last long. Pity. The ambience is beautiful. But a Resturant has to actually serve people to make it in the business. read more

My husband and I went to Teca last nite for Happy Hour and dinner. We visit Teca every few months..the reason is the food and service is amazing. Our waiter Julian was wonderful,attending to our ever need along with many other staff members checking in thought out our dinner. Now the Home made Lobster Ravoli is the best in Delaware County, Chester County if you want to enjoy a night of the best food and customer service in town. My wife and I went to Tecca Newtown Square with two other couples on a Saturday evening. Our experience was absolutely horrendous and unacceptable. I don't know where Alberto (the owner) went so that he could return and open up another disappointing restaurant in this location; but, I suggest he goes back to where he was and forgets being a Delaware County restaurant owner. While waiting over an hour to be seated for our phoned-in reservation, we got to watch the owner yell at his untrained and unprepared staff and lie about table availability. I'm sure his bar revenues were good as everyone seemed to spend the same amount of time in the bar waiting for their reservation. I did not anticipate waiting that long for mediocre food and pretentious service. For a party of 6, our visit to eat at Tecca Newtown Square was just under 5 hours. A big disappointment, but I should have known better to expect more. After all, it was the same disappointing experience that Alberto has served up in his restaurants for the past two decades. read more

Recently while attending a banquet at Teca, I witnessed the manager, Mickey, speaking very disrespectfully to his servers. It made me very uncomfortable. It is never necessary to humiliate someone when speaking to them. As a side note, I think the servers did a wonderful job!!!! I was so excited for this place to open - I live close by. But I was thoroughly disappointed. Highlights of why I was disappointed: - When our appetizers came out, we still had yet to get water, let alone the drink order we put in as soon as we sat down. We had to ask for water and bread. And then the bread was put down but with no butter or oil. - This may sound stupid, but if you order calamari at an italian restaurant it's a good litmus test as to how authentic they are and how fresh their food is. We were thoroughly disappointed with the fact that it was clearly flash fried frozen calamari. No tentacles - just rubbery rounds. - We ordered a pizza after our appetizers and it came out a max 2 mins later. Fast service would normally be something I'd praise, but in this case it was very apparent that their so-called artisan pizza's are simply a plain pizza that they throw the toppings on and heat really quickly. While the prosciutto, arugula, and parmesan pizza sounded great, it was a pretty big disappointment in reality. - Caesar salad was pretty flavorless and seemed to just be store bought dressing over some romaine. The croutons were clearly the same ones you buy in the grocery store. I talked to 2 other people who had recently eaten there and had the same experience. The only reason I'm not giving it 1 star is because it's new and I'm really really crossing my fingers hoping it gets better. For $120 it was no better than your average chain italian restaurant. The wait staff, hostess, manager, etc - were all very nice. So this bad review is in no way reflective of them. Just felt pretty sub par all the way around in terms of the food. read more

When we arrived we found that we were forced to use valet parking. There are no other parking options, and the valet staff was rather militant about it -- which immediately establishes a bad opinion of the place. At the reception desk we waited about 10 minutes before the hostess looked up from her computer. We had a reservation, but were told we could not be seated until everyone in our party had arrived. Once seated, we waited ten minutes for a server to show up. My wife ordered a wood oven pizza, but the server told us that pizzas come out of the kitchen immediately -- the chef refuses to time pizza baking so that a pizza will arrive at the table at the same time as the other entrees ordered. My wife got her pizza in about ten minutes after ordering, while the rest of our party waited almost an hour for our entrees to be served; in total it was an hour and 20 minutes after we sat down at the table before our entrees arrived. Drink service was poor; we sat waiting with empty glasses for long periods of time before our drinks were replenished. The food was overpriced and mediocre at best. Upon going to the restroom, the women in our group reported that there was no toilet paper, and that two young women from a private party were throwing up, both in the stalls and the sinks. When reporting the lack of TP to the hostess, she said she was too busy to do anything about it. We definitely will not be returning to this VERY poorly managed restaurant. read more

Teca Newtown Square is average at best. The server and bartender for our personal party were great however the manager Mike and the bartender in the main bar are the reason I won't be back. The bartender kept using our money/tip that we left on the bar for other people there. When it came time to square away our tab she said we did not tip her all night. We did the right thing and tipped her more but felt we were cheated by her. Mike was extremely rude and insulting throughout the whole process of booking the room. read more

Revisited in early November. All is confirmed! Pizza, pasta, specials, salads, drinks. They are presenting a consistent and high quality meal with attentive but unobtrusive service. I find the menu to be extensive and varied enough, especially when you consider the interesting and authentic specials. This time I had a lamb ragu with paccheri, a less common pasta which is basically a wide flat ziti. Others had the chicken parmigiana which, to be fair, looked like it had been under the broiler just a minute too long. (I don't like when the cheese is starting to burn.) The rigatoni with Sunday gravy and meatball had a very authentic taste. I find the overall experience very pleasing. Just about the only drawback I can think of is that the main room gets a little loud. But this is a lively place, as mentioned in the previous review! Still impressed on a second visit! read more

We made a reservation to dine with another couple and listed it as a birthday celebration. We were very clear, as we were given the choice, to select outdoor. We arrived and outdoor was full. We were taken to an area that would be considered indoor. The room was large and around the outside rim there were screens. Due to the wind the screen was pulled halfway down. The tables were not socially distanced to add insult to injury. When we complained and said that we made a clear unequivocal reservation for outdoor we were told there would be a 45 minute wait. We were offered drinks outside. We declined, left and celebrated our friends birthday elsewhere. We felt that there was very little consideration for our safety. We will never return and caution you to be very clear if you make a reservation for outdoors. Better yet, find another restaurant that cares about your safety and honors your reservation. read more

We lived in Swarthmore for a few years and my daughter was on a swim club close to Teca and we have wanted to try this restaurant for a long time. Our son just graduated from College nearby so we made a reservation and we were not disappointed. The proportions of food on the East Coast are huge so I don't think we ate even half of the servings but the food was wonderful. We tried appetizers of goat cheese and potatoes and burrata and they were both terrific. My daughter had lasagne, I had pizza with prosciutto and artichokes and my husband had a meat pasta and they were all exceptional. They also have an extensive wine list that is reasonably priced. The only minor complaint is they play music that is obnoxiously loud. read more

Be SMART, get Italian food. If you want a burger go somewhere that "specializes" in it. And if you are worried about perfume then maybe say something. Don't sit there an take it. Our experiences have been amazing. Great wine and drinks, phenomenal desserts and great service. This place has switched names and owners multiple times, finally the original owners have taken it back and all I can say was that it closed for a reason.. The staff, service and food quality are not competent to be calling this restaurant any type of star. Even asking for water refills is a chore. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Teca has improved significantly since it has opened a few years ago. The food and service are excellent, and more importantly it is very consistent. The menu is very diverse and the pizza is amazing. I have not ordered anything that I have not liked. The waitstaff are well educated in the menu and they have also tried everything on the menu. The only thing that needs work, is the dessert menu - no tiramisu - which is awesome when they have it. read more
