So, I'm working on my laptop and the power shuts off with a pop and a burning smell... not good. I have used Tech 2U for a few years off and on for very minor issues and will not be using them again especially based on my last experience. They have never been great but now they have grown and gotten way too big and their customer service and expertise has plummeted as a result. Their business model is horrible. When you call they will set up an appoinment for a tech to call you back which is usally a couple of days or more away. When they call you for your appointment (its never when they are suppose to) they have you sit there why they have remoted in and they do nothing on your computer for hours!! My laptop recently broke and I took it into them to look at. I paid for the "rush" service. Well 3 weeks later I was told the part they ordered didn't fix the problem and I needed a new computer. So I purchased a new computer and brought it into Chad at the Roseville location to transfer the data from the old computer to my new one. Again it was suppose to be a rush service. Well two weeks later I was still wating. I never received any updates as well. I finally went in to get my new laptop and brought it home and it was a mess!!! All the settings and everything on it was a mess along with my emails. Not at all like a prior experience with a professional IT person I used when I had my business. I had also purchased an external hard drive from them and they (Chad) was suppose to instruct me on how to back up my computer but he did not. Chad in Roseville lacks people skills and does not know how to communicate and I find this to be true with most l of their technicians. You can ask Chad a question and he will not answer it. He just keeps repeating himself and not answering your question! He also has a very poor attitude and is rude. He just complains about how busy he is. He stated that he and has to answer phones, greet people that walk in and work on your computer in between as he is the only one there!! He openly complains to you about it. Well is that my problem? Tech 2U's business model is the technician is the ONLY person in the shop and also has to handle walk in customers and answer phones! No wonder they misdiagnose and you get your new computer back in a total mess!! They also did not install webroot that I had purchased from them prior, on my new laptop. I called them and had to make another appointment for a tech to call me regarding all the issues. I received a call the day of my appointment stating that they would not be able to have a tech call me that day and they changed it until Monday two days later. So when the tech finally called me that Monday , he remoted in and my computer just sat there with him doing NOTHING for TWO HOURS!! When I sent a message to the tech to call me he called back and said that he no longer had time to work on my computer and it would have to be the next day. I told him to forget it. So I ended up having to pay Nerds on call to fix all the issues on my new laptop that Tech2u created and I purchased webroot from them. Nerds on call was great!!! So if you want to get your computer back in a total mess or not fixed at all and have your time totally messed with and wasted then use Tech2u. If you also want an appointment and they remote in be prepared for your computer to sit there for hours while they don't do a thing!! Then be prepared for them to not be able to fix the problem after you have waited hours for them to look at it. I did also request that a manager call me and I never heard from anyone. Use Nerds on Call! They are fantastic!! I guarantee they will be a totally different experience than Tech2U. I have used them several times now ironing out issues that Tech2U created and they have been efficient, nice and very professional! I took my wife's computer in earlier this year and they said it needed a motherboard. The computer would turn off on its own and turn back on. A little while later the problem came back, they said they couldn't find an issue and said it was probably a software issue and talked us into paying for a reinstall. After the ridiculously short warranty expired the issue came back and I decided to take it somewhere else for a second opinion. They found a fan wasn't working and the computer case was the issue. The people at Tech2u didn't give me proper diligence and ripped me off and since it's my wife's work computer, she lost wages. I am never coming here ever again. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE They charge every time the mess up your computer and then tel you its your fault and ask for more money while repeatedly asking condescending questions. They take advantage of "mature" people. I brought my computer from the- I then brought it in to get a graphic upgrade for gaming- they charge me but instead added RAM. I also asked them to change my ADMIN (I am the owner of this computer) password because I forgot what it was. They said "SURE!!!!!!!" change it to my regular password- CHARGED me- and I still cannot upload programs that I need to upload for my business. They like to chat and chat but dont listen- AND I asked for help setting it up because after putting all of the correct parts in the correct places, my computer screen (the guy on the phone did not know what a computer screed is) would not accept- I paid another company $149 and he told me that Tech2U changed the port when they added the RAM that I did not ask for. They have a script and a list of what to say and what to do- mostly they want you to buy their anti virus and do cleaning job after cleaning after diagnosis after diagnosis- and they will do that , and charge you even if you are very clear about what you want and do not want- they eat your money and ruin your computer and your livelihood. Unless you want a simple optimization do not go here. After they are done with you you will be in it over $1000 at least. read more

Dont trust their ebay account tech2upcrepair from La Mesa, Ca. I sold them a gaming laptop with a dvd writer and sleeve case. They said the laptop and the charger were missing but everything else was untouched. They scammed me. I try to call the cops but they said it was a civil matter and cant do anything about it. Now im out of money. I bought my laptop for $1040 bucks. When i try to open up an usps insurance claim i called both my local and the la mesa post office they said he has to bring the package to his local post office for inspection and refuse to do cause "We're a computer repair company and it's not possible for us to close the store to do this.". So he open up a case and ebay side with him and sent the item back. The laptop and charger is missing now. The other items are fine. I try to call the cops no help at all. Reviews mean everything. There are some computer repair places with five star reviews and that's for a reason. I had a problem and I clearly stated what my problem was. The company pulled a bait and switch technique on me. They told me one thing to get me into the shop and although my previously stated problem didn't change somehow now the charges changed. Along with that, they were somewhat rude and acted like I was taking up their time by asking questions about my problem. Since they showed dishonesty early on in the process I didn't trust them with my computer and I wouldn't trust them with yours. My first experience with this company will be my last. Another sign of deceit was the person I was talking to on yelp wasn't the person that I was really talking to. Deceitful and with modern technology and social media companies like this won't last long because millennials are much more well informed. I don't want to vent or negatively review a company but I was disrespected and if anyone wants to be respected as a client or potential customer this isn't the place to go to. On-site same-day service, remote service, great follow-through. ***** They recovered all the data from my early departed SeaGate, recommended a solid state drive, cloned another drive on another machine, ensured all programs and data were transferred properly. All in all it was a difficult job, one for which I will always be grateful that this Do-It-Yourselfer sought out and received prompt and professional service. I ended up dealing with at least 7 different service techs, all capable and all very busy. It's worth the wait in every case as you can expect to have whatever resolution politely resolved in as prompt a manner as can be expected. As close to an in-house tech department as one could be. Yesterday after I restarted my computer I was unable to log back in. I tried everything I could think of and called 2 friends that know a lot about computers. There were unable to help me. I called Tech 2U. Ian, a technician came to the house and tried several things. He even went to the Tech 2U store and brought back a wireless keyboard to try to fix the problem. He left and James H called me from Tech 2U. James said that many computers were having the same problem as mine because Microsoft sent out an update that made it impossible to login to the computer. After a couple of hours, James eventually was able to fix the problem after connecting to my computer. I was able to login to my computer and it is working great. I paid only $199. I would recommend this place to anybody having any type of computer issue. My MacBook had been giving me problems lately, and most recently I wasn't even able to turn it on. All I got was a black screen with a folder and a question mark on it. I called Apple and they weren't even able to help me. Tech 2U was the first place to respond to me on Yelp, so I went with them (and thank goodness). They run diagnostics on your computer for free to figure out what is wrong, and then from there they give you a quote and you can figure out if you want them to go ahead and fix your stuff. They gave me a call the day after I dropped my laptop off with an update to let me know that it was a software issue, which is much cheaper than fixing a hardware issue. I was worried this would be a super expensive fix, and since I know nothing about computers they could've told me it was much more serious than it was to get more money and I would've believed them. But they are honest and amazing and did not do that. The day after the phone call, my computer was ready to pick up. I was perfectly fine waiting a week for them to fix my computer but it was done in about a day and a half which was amazing. To top it off, they even cleaned my laptop, which was admittedly pretty grimy. I am blown away with the quality of service I was shown. 10/10 you guys are awesome. read more

I, like so many of us, failed to back up my computer. I noticed it glitching out a few times but didn't think much of it until the next week when it totally crashed and I couldn't do anything with it. More than a years worth of data and important files vanished. Panicked, I called the first 3-4 mobile computer repair places in my area (San Diego) to get advice and prices. They were all around $100-200 to come out. I chose Tech2u because they answered the phone and were helpful. They seemed to actually care about my predicament. They sent Gerardo out within a few hours and he carefully explained everything to me. He ran recovery software and was able to backup and recover my data even though the hard drive was failing. He did not rush through any of it, he explained every step of the way what he was seeing and what was happening. I am so grateful to him and I would recommend them to anyone having computer problems or that needs any computer help. In fact, after this ordeal I am going to have them build a new computer for me and consolidate the 2 computers into one and get me set up with regular backups. read more

I took my 6 month old computer in after a disrupted update caused a driver malfunction that resulted in the computer consistently crashing a few minutes after starting up (but otherwise no other discernible issues). After three separate tries with Tech2U and the purchase of additional RAM, the good news was that my computer no longer crashed minutes after starting up... It now crashed at random intervals (though always without fail), my USB mouse wouldn't connect, my Wacom tablet and stylus worked only intermittently, my image manipulation program was dodgy when it did work, and there's a weird striated white square that flashed in the middle of the screen when I scrolled down certain websites with dark backgrounds. In addition to this laptop, I took in another that had stopped working about a year ago. This second laptop would freeze every time I attempted to log on, and unfortunately, for whatever reason, its prior save point had been erased. However, by the time this occurred, the laptop was several years old, and I figured it made more sense to buy a new one than to have it fixed. I brought it to Tech2U at the same time as the other computer because they have a promotion wherein they charge only about $60-$70 for every additional machine, and while I didn't really care about getting it fixed, I did want to retrieve the files it still contained. They had an easier time with this one: they removed the virus they said caused it to freeze, replaced the hard drive (for an additional charge, of course), and voila! It was usable again. (And, more importantly, I had access to all the files.) Unfortunately, it still sporadically crashes, but that's always been an issue with this specific machine (something I've just attributed to the fact it runs on Vista?). More unfortunate is the fact I can't seem to get iTunes to work on it anymore, even after uninstalling and re-installing it-- not that it matters, I guess, because the speakers have also completely ceased functioning. Included in their repair package is a guarantee that should an issue reoccur with your machine fifteen days after service, you can return it for no additional charge. Like I said, I took my first computer in three different times under this policy, but the issue was never fixed, and after that third time, I just gave up--what more could they do that they haven't already failed at? At this point, I swore never to give any money to this company again. Skip six months later. My boyfriend bought a computer that was malfunctioning after less than three months of ownership. After getting little from the company tech service, he said to me, "I know you hate this place, but I'm going to call them to fix my computer anyway." (Not necessarily verbatim, but that was the gist of it, to which I replied, "Fine. Your money, your computer.") And so on a Sunday, they sent a tech over to our place who then proceeded to look the machine over for about three-four hours... Only to come to the conclusion that there's nothing he can do and charged the bf $90 for the advice of giving tech support another go. Helpful, indeed. In short: I don't mind spending money, but I do expect something in return other than a lot of wasted time and frustration. read more

Disappointing. After a chat session identifying my printer by make & model, I brought it in to be looked at for a paper feed error. When I arrived, the tech said "out of ink" so I asked which cartridge. The tech could not identify which cartridge, claiming the printer wouldn't tell him. Returning home with my printer, I determined to spend the entire evening, if necessary, trying to figure it out. Would you believe once I plugged it in, it came up with the "out of ink" message... displaying a blue dot with a "c" in the center. Now, wouldn't you think someone qualified to repair printers would recognize a blue dot with a "c" to indicate the cyan cartridge? Yes, you would. Which told me immediately that I had brought my printer to the wrong place. Maybe a new guy? Perhaps. Regardless I think I can find someplace better for my printer. read more

The first time I used them, great service and my computer repair went great. The second time not so great. They said the repair work (warranty) and ALL services would be covered by apple. When the technician came out and delivered my computer, there all of the sudden was a $289 bill. When I asked about the bill, they told me that they clearly told me this over the phone (they did not) and that I had to pay it before the technician left. I felt pressured and super uncomfortable. These guys do great work, and I feel they can be trusted to be honest and do what needs to be done. They worked on an old lap top I had and did the best they could since I didn't want to put a lot into it. I got it in the best shape I could (or they did) and then sold it cheaply. I also just took my grandson's LeapFrog in and they were able to get it up and running (Kids, ya know, they beat these things to death!!
