I feel bad leaving a bad review but that's what this platform is for right? As a family, we all agreed this was the worst meal/service/atmosphere we have ever experienced. When we went to walk in, we noticed the restaurant next door was packed so we were surprised to walk in to this very pretty restaurant that was empty. We asked to sit to eat and sat at a table. We ordered drinks that took no less than 25 minutes to come to the table. Throughout the 25 minutes we were waiting the waitress was literally just sitting on her phone so we were confused....maybe she forgot?after 25 mins of waiting and getting our food before the drink she delivered the drinks and she said sorry for the wait.....which made it even more confusing that she was aware she never brought them over. She asked if we needed anything else and we reminded her of the 3 other drinks we ordered when we first sat down that we still didn't receive. Ultimately My drink was terrible and I didn't even drink it and all of the food was subpar. The 4 of us left disappointed and hungry. I hate to leave a bad review but hoping whoever owns this establishment will see this and try to make some changes to what looks like a very pretty restaurant! read more

Best steak in Town! I love steak! For a high-end steak, I love Rothman's in East Norwich, but that's a high-end formal steakhouse, and always costs me $100+ even when I go alone. Sometimes, I just want a simple steak meal, but don't want to bust the budget. That's why I love Teddy's Bully Bar! What a great place for a delicious steak. Teddy's is not a steakhouse. It's an informal pub with a great bar, and unlimited popcorn. Be careful not to kill your appetite on the popcorn before the meal. Here is the secret: if you order Teddy's Steak Frites, you will blow your mind on how good it is. They ought to call it a NY Strip Steak, and charge double. That's how good it is. Mine was cooked perfectly...medium rare...not overdone....plenty of delicious steak juice and gravy, and more French fires than I can handle. Other places will charge an extra $15 for an order of fries. This comes with the meal. It is the best kept secret...so don't tell Jake, the owner. Otherwise, he will raise the price! The bar staff are very efficient and friendly, as well as the others. The place attracts locals and others coming to OB for the beach and other attractions. This place needs a good bartender. They pay no attention to you at the bar. Music blasting can't hear the person next to you. I don't think they know how to make drinks. Tried some apps and they sucked. Nachos swimming in cheese and mostly frozen food. It's a pass for me unless you just want a beer. That's all they get right. read more

Came here for lunch after a holiday concert at Coe Hall , Planting Fields. Wanted to keep the nostalgic vibe going so what better place to go than one named after our 26th president. What a disappointment. The clam chowder was watery and tasted fresh from the can. The Ruben, dry and unappealing- couldn't finish it. The one item on the menu that was good were the raw oysters. We first tried coming here opening week, the wait was over 2 hours so we decided to try it another time. Today, thinking of a place for a quick casual lunch Teddy's came to mind. We walked in and both admired what is a nice facelift to the old Canterburys space. It certainly feels lighter and more welcoming! The next thing we noticed was that it was empty inside. Now granted, it's a Tuesday lunch in Oyster Bay, not midtown Manhattan, but this was a stark contrast to opening week and Taby's next door was slammed. Odd, we thought, but happily took our seats. When it came time to order we had both wanted to try the Bison burger, ordered a pair, medium rare and enjoyed a nice draft beer in the interim. The burgers showed quite quickly, and despite to huge bun appeared pretty underwhelming; patty was small, fries undercooked, but I was still not ready to write them off just yet! This feeling was quickly fleeting after the initial bite. Both burgers were cooked completely well and had a terrible propane/NG taste to them. I worked in the industry for many years. I do not send food back. Both these burgers were returned and salads ordered in their place. Say enough? We were really hoping for a hit here, we all know the town needs it. I wish them well and hope they can get it together, but as the kids say "this ain't it". I am unsure I would return. read more

Went with my kids and nieces, place was fairly empty. Food was good. Only problem was the bartender/waiter. I live in the neighborhood. The live music and atmosphere of the bar is great - but the food is just God awful. I've been there for dinner at least 5 times since they first opened and every time I've told myself "never again" - but I'd eventually give it a try once more, hoping the food would improve over time. That was wishful thinking. Tonight we ordered appetizers to-go because we had guests coming over for early cocktails on our deck. (Calamari, flatbreads, nachos & the roasted corn). The food became the butt of jokes for our happy hour because it was so embarrassingly bad. Pictured here is their $18 nachos. This is how it came. Little plastic containers and stale chips like you'd get at a sub-par public snack bar. Look close at the cold, runny "cheese" ... I went to Teddys with my girlfriend and it was a really good time! The waitress was very sweet and attentive and sat us right away. The place is really well-lit and had live music playing which is always a cool experience. We ordered the margherita flatbread and the nachos. We especially liked the nachos which tasted so fresh and really filled us up. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Service and ambiance are great; it's the food and drinks that are the problem. It's a shame because I really really want to love this place and we've given it more than enough tries. To name a few issues with the food: My kids won't even eat the chicken fingers and pasta with butter! The cheese on the nachos is always cold. The flatbreads and sandwiches are so bland. I've been going to this restaurant for several years now and unfortunately it seems like the quality and quantity of the food is starting to slip. I enjoy the fish and chips but the last couple of times I've ordered that the fish portions have been smaller. The same can be said for the French dip. While it used to be advertised on the menu as sliced prime, it now just says sliced beef. The amount of meat on the roll can hardly be considered a reasonable portion for what you pay. The same can be said for the onions and cheese that accompany it on the sandwich. The meat was overdone to the extent that it was dry and one of the few times I've ever had to send a meal back. One thing that really irks me is that even if you pay cash there is a 3% credit card charge that is then reimbursed to you after you pay the cash. For what my bill was that would only amount to $1.75 or so, am I hanging around after I have paid the bill or do I just skip it and leave it to the server? If anything there should be a notification somewhere that a 3% charge will be added to the bill if paying by card. While I cannot say enough about the attentiveness and professionalism of the service, unfortunately I cannot do the same for the kitchen. Not sure what's happening in the kitchen but it just is not what it used to be, sad. read more

I've been ordering hamburgers to go for my homebound wife from this place for about six months. They were pretty good so when my stepson, his wife and my granddaughter stopped by on a Sunday and wanted a quick bite, I took them to Teddys. The food was good pub fare, but the service was disorganized, and the presence of house flies in the dining area was disappointing. I feel badly for the friendly people who are working hard to make this pretty little place go. The basics-- good food and well made cocktails-- are there. A bit more training for food servers and a tad more attention to keeping kitchen doors closed to the outside would serve the place well. All in all, Teddy's is a decent place to have a drink or a burger at the bar, but with a little more attention to details, it could really thrive. read more

When Canterbury Ales closed in Oyster Bay, there was a definite void. Teddy Roosevelt has always been an important part of Oyster Bay, as he lived and worked there. Teddy's Bully Bar is more than a restaurant it a place that has memorabilia about Teddy's adventures around the world as our President. The wait serve was excellent and very friendly. It was like visiting a friend's home for dinner. My wife and enjoyed our night out with a cocktail and a cup of clam chowder. "My Manhattan was perfect," remarked my wife. Our chowder was hot, full of clams and very delicious. Our main courses: fish and chips, and Seafood Fra Diavol were excellent. To say we were satisfied would be a gross understatement. We were delighted with the whole dining experience. If you are lucky enough to visit the Town of Oyster Bay make sure you stop and enjoy a truly wonderful dining experience at Teddy's Bully Bar! My husband abd I had been going to Canterbury Ales since our dating days and that's well over 30 years. We live locally and were sad to hear that it was closing but happy to hear it was reopening under a new name and new look. We talked about stopping in for a long time but never got there. Finally we went there the Friday after Valentines day. Not crowded and the updated decor was lovely. My husband had Fish and Chips (passable but had better elsewhere). I ordered a BBQ burger. The waiter did not write anything down. As we were with others I inquired if he could remember it all. He said yes. When my burger arrived it had no and one lonely un melted slice of American cheese. It was loaded with raw onion that I do not eat so I quickly picked it off. I ate the burger anyway although I did want BBQ sauce which was lacking. When asked if we needed anything else our table requested a second round of drinks. The food did come promptly however the next round of drinks never arrived. We finished eating and waited and waited. Our waiter was busy talking to guests at another table endlessly. No one else came to see if we wanted dessert or anything else. We felt ignored. what is it that some wait staff have about writing things down? our waitress, no name given, took our order , wrote nothing down. two people did not want fries with their burgers- both wanted salads. both got fries. friend has a severe shellfish allergy and avoids fried things because shared oil. she told the waitress this! waitress had to come back for the drink order because she forgot. again no writing- i asked for lemon in my drink- no lemon. i had the rueben. the sandwich was not hot inside and the corned beef tasted like it came from a supermarket. we will not be returning. read more

As this place is newly opened we naturally wanted to give it a try. We went on a Sunday mid afternoon for a late lunch / early dinner. The ambience and design is very nice. Place is clean, modern yet nice traditional American bar feel. It's not trying to be something it's not. Service seems polite tough the guy host seemed to be in a bad mood when sitting us down. The waitress was super nice and got our order quickly. My wife got the paella, I got the hangover burger and our son got kids pasta with fries (go figure). Food came quickly and well presented, but all 3 of us had a instant reaction to how salty the food was. Once we got past that it was ok. Not bad, not excellent but somewhat in the middle. We will likely give it another try but it will not be on top of the list of places to go. read more

Unimpressed. Was irritated the first time I went there shortly after they opened because they seem to close when they want to. Tried again yesterday - sat at the bar - left a healthy tip. Additional party arrived a few minutes after 10pm and was rudely told "there was already last call". I can see that. Even though 10pm is early to close, I would understand if new customers came in at that time, but not when it's one additional person stopping in for a few minutes to join a party that's been there patronizing the establishment for hours. They seem more interested in promptly closing and going home than they are in doing the right thing for locals. Tried twice. Won't be a third time. read more

Started off when it opened very good. Now you go in and overly loud music blasts you when you enter. The staff could have less friendly. The waiter came over, didn't introduce himself, didn't say welcome to Teddy's, didn't even smile. Looked like he was totally depressed and didn't want to be there.
