Tee Jay's is a Carson City institution. I have been eating from Tee Jay since his farmers market days, but he has been in this location inside the Cactus Jacks casino for many years now. I can't believe I have never written a review. Specializing in Indonesian food with a western twist, Tee Jay is serving up great noodle dishes, burgers, cheesesteaks, hot dogs, and one of my new favorites, Loco Moco! The Krakatoa cheesesteak is one of my favorites. Thin-cut steak, cheese, and if you like spicy, it's even better! The loco moco is what I tried most recently, and I thought the portion size was great for the price. The classic noodle dishes like pad thai and the curries are also bomb. The ambiance here isn't the best since it's located on a casino floor; however, the classic counter diner has a special ambiance in and of itself. I almost always get food to-go from here. Tee Jay is always working at this place with a few assistants, and they are a truly kind and caring staff, wanting to make the best food for their guests. Give Tee Jay's a try, you won't regret it.
Staying in town for a snow trip and looking for places to eat and while scrolling this place statistically stands out among the rest. Curious, I urged my friends to come with me and honestly it was the best decision of our trip. We were a bit intimidated by the location, a countertop set up nested in the middle of a casino. The cigarette smell isn't noticeable at the counter, and Chuck and TJ are just amazing. Since everything is just at the counter, the service is super amazing and you can watch them prepare your food in the spot. Chuck gave us an amazing intro into Indonesian culture and how the food scene evolved over the past years. We ordered the pot roast, nasi goreng, and red curry. All dishes were absolutely stellar. The food was made with heart and the conversation with Chuck was super fun. I think I would definitely encourage my friends to stay in Carson City again in our next trip just so we could hit this spot. Will try my best to return to this gem of a hole in the wall.

What a great experience at Tee Jay's! We had a great time chatting with Chuck about the restaurant and the food. He is incredibly knowledgeable and was a pleasure speaking with. We had stopped into Tee Jay's as part of my quest to get a hot dog in every state capital in the US. Tee Jay's was our Carson City stop. It's located inside the casino so don't expect to see a sign on the street. Head on in to the well-lit counter restaurant in the corner. Be sure to watch their hours so you don't catch them during the break between meals. We were a few minutes early for dinner but Chuck waved us over and got us started. So much of the menu looked great but, again, we were their for hot dogs and, in particular, their famous, legendary Rendang Dawg. It was topped with a delicious rendang steak curry that was super flavorful. Then topped with a pickled cucumber dressing (achar) and then crunchy fried onions. Chuck recommended using a fork and knife and, after the first few bites, you kinda have to because the toppings are just overflowing. The bun and dog itself are big too. I would love to return to Tee Jay's and just sit and order and sample so many things. Hopefully I have that opportunity!
Believe the hype this place is legit. It's tucked away inside a casino, but you'll find it. Everyone behind the counter was very helpful. If you're not familiar with Indonesian cuisine they'll walk you through it. The man working the grill noticed I ordered tofu and checked into make sure any dietary restrictions were covered, I don't have any but it was a nice touch. He also made sure the spice level was what I wanted ahead of time. I can do spicy, but probably not Indo spicy, so he kept it within my limits. I got the lumpia and tofu/egg/rice entree whose name I cannot remember. Absolutely delicious. No qualifiers like "for Carson city" or "for a casino". It was really great. They also made their own (very) hot sauce and riff on Chinese mustard. Both great. Way more than I could finish so they boxed it up beautifully. Then whammo, a surprise fruit salad for palate cleanser/dessert. Love it. Note: they have real sugar Pepsi. Whole heartedly recommend
I keep coming back to Tee Jay's. Since my first review I've gotten to know Chuck and Tee Jay a lot better, and I can say that these guys care about the food they are making, the customers they are serving, and the community they are both living in and building up. It helps that they are serving some of the best food in all of northern Nevada. If you're a Carson local, or someone from Reno and you haven't been you owe it to yourself to check this place out. Get the nassi goreng, get the curry, get the pasta, or get a burger, it will not disappoint.

We were driving through Carson City when visiting Lake Tahoe, so we decided to stop for lunch. This spot is inside of a casino which was the only downside for me. Casinos don't bother me, but I don't love being around smoke. You can always get takeout though. My husband and I shared: - Indo Burrito - Krakatoa Cheese Steak - Fried Banana & Coconut Ice Cream The Krakatoa Cheese Steak is one of the best things I've eaten this year. It was a mess, but you won't care with how good it tastes. We also loved the burrito and would happily try anything else on the menu. I was sad that the fried bananas came covered in chocolate sauce (not listed on the menu) because I really don't like chocolate. I ate around it as much as I could and they were still amazing. This was hands down the best place we ate while in Tahoe. It's a bit of a drive, but I would do it just to eat here.
Tried twice in the past two weeks! Drunken noodles were amazing. They're running a special of mango curry and mango sticky rice. Highly recommend. Small bar seating but the staff is energetic and welcoming.
The Krakatoa cheesecake was absolutely delicious -- such complex, well-balanced flavors, and the unique sauce really elevated the dish. I also loved how it paired with the thinly sliced steak(cooked perfectly); everything felt thoughtfully seasoned. The cheesesteak with crispy fries was hands down my favorite item and something I'd definitely order again. The pad Thai was also great -- slightly sweet with nice hints of ginger that made it really enjoyable. What truly stood out, though, alongside the Krakatoa Cheesesteak, was the experience. Both co-owners, Teejay and Chuck, came by to talk with us and share the stories behind the dishes we ordered. You can genuinely tell the food is made with heart, soul, and intention. Teejay explained what makes Indonesian cuisine unique, which made the meal even more meaningful. Chuck also told us about their Moby Dick-inspired clam chowder -- I loved the generous amount of black pepper, though I think it could've used a bit more clams. My cousin did mention that she noticed a very noticeable cigarette smoke smell since the café is located in a casino, but it personally didn't bother me much. Overall, great food, warm hospitality, and a really memorable dining experience. The passion behind the dishes truly shines through.
Tee Jay's Corner Cafe is an unexpectedly delicious Indonesian American fusion diner hidden away inside an unassuming casino. When my wife and I visited Lake Tahoe, we both agreed it was the best meal we had during our trip. The service was fast and friendly, the owners are very welcoming. As for the food, my wife and I shared the Indo Burrito, the Krakatoa Cheese Steak, and the Fried Banana with Coconut lce Cream. To this day, I still think about how good the Krakatoa Cheese Steak was. The Indo Burrito was good too but I'll order the cheese steak again before I order the burrito again.
Based on Yelp posts and a TV spot about places to try I finally wrangled a lunch visit with my husband who normally avoids casinos, especially little old ones. But everything I've read and heard about TeeJays is spot on. I assume it was Chuck who greeted us and when we said we were rookies he gave us a way ndergul talk about Indonesia food and how it differs from Asian foods we are more accustomed to. I asked for whatever was the most typical street or home made taste and he directed us to a rice dish and a noodle dish. We had chicken in one and shrimp in the other. Both were delicious and so very distinctive from Thai and other Asian foods. I also tried a dry seasoning and a sauce...both were pretty hot but fresh and distinctive. I highly recommend this little corner cafe and from what we saw I'm sure the American classics are great too. Good place to go with a movie mixed group!
Great food, quick service, and very friendly people. Relatively quiet today - especially for a Saturday - however, it was nice not to have to wait in a line or for a long time to get our food. We ordered the drunken noodles with tofu (spicy and oh so delicious!), fish and chips (really enjoyed the fish - for the first time - with malt vinegar and thoroughly enjoyed the tartar coleslaw), and pad Thai with chicken (left the plate very clean). Was also able to enjoy some shrimp chips (haven't had these in years)! I used to work in a Malaysian restaurant and miss the food so much, so I was thrilled to see Indonesian food! I'll be back - need to try the other dishes!

This was first time visiting TJs and I was quite surprised to find out how good the food is! Our order was a bowl of homemade clam chowder and a mushroom burger with black pepper bacon with a good amount of fries. For a small corner cafe inside a casino it turns out some great food! They serve your water via britta so you can rest assured that you are getting the best service. read more

I called 30 mins before closing to check if they're still taking orders and so glad they still do! I forgot what we ordered but I think we got the pineapple chicken and the other best seller. Husband picked it up and we ate in the hotel so I wasn't able to check out the place itself. But man, THE FOOD WAS SO SO GOOD!!! We'll definitely go eat inside the cafe when we're around Tahoe again:) read more
All the reviews are calling it Carson City's "hidden gem" and "the best food in Carson". The skeptic in me immediately takes over and I walk in as Mr. Cynical. I love it when I'm proved wrong and it benefits me. Let's start with the personal. Two of the friendliest people I've met in a long time, Chuck and Tee Jay. These two can strike up a conversation with anyone. They know their product and are willing to work with you to prepare it just right. They're very modest, too. You can't help but to compliment their efforts. They humbly thank you and continue on their mission. Crazy as this sounds, Tee Jay's is just a lunch counter in the middle of Cactus Jack's casino. So, you can jump on the stool and order a burger and fries, but, IMHO you'd be cheating yourself. The creations are so incredible I literally found myself planning my next visit's meal, and the next meal after that, and after that. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict everything on their menu is phenomenal. I'll let you know once I've tried it all. Forget that you've walked into a tiny, old casino. Forget that the restaurant looks like a 50's snack bar at the bowling alley. That's actually part of the attraction. Watching these two work their magic right in front of your eyes is part of the thrill. I can't believe the incredible attention to detail on all the dishes. At one point, Chuck turned and asked if I have any gluten or cilantro issues before he continued. Tee Jay continuously checked in on us. He kept that sensational Jasmine iced Tea topped off before we ever had a chance to request more. Try anything on the menu. Anything. I was bold and went for the Tuna Noods. A dish that knocked me on my backside in shock. Think of the best tuna casserole you've ever had. Mushrooms, celery, onions with cracker crumbs on top. Now, times that by ten! Mrs. E. raved about the Drunken Noods plate that she ordered. I tried it and she was right, it was this side of perfect! I feel the prices are in line. The surrounding atmosphere is horrible for food of this quality. Okay, get over that. Momma used to say "Don't judge a book by its cover." The owners are top notch and deserve your business. I've been waiting to check out this place for a while and finally came in here. At first glance I was a little turned off at the cigarette smell but I didn't let that decide my evening, I mean after all the place is inside Cactus Jack's casino. I ignored the smoky air and made my way to Tee Jay's counter. Pretty soon the spicy garlicky aromas took over my senses and I was a happy camper. I came here strictly for the Drunken Noodles and ordered them with extra fresh Thai peppers. I also ordered the Lumpia and fried wonton pockets with beef appetizers. My son ordered the beef chow mein. The appetizers were perfectly fried, not greasy at all. My drunken noodles tasted yummy, they came with a lot of fresh broccoli which was unexpected but made me feel healthy eating it; loved it. My son's chow mein came with the same vegetables and looked similar to my drunken noodles but they tasted quite different. They use different sauces for each of these dishes and you can taste the difference, this was a nice surprised. I've been to restaurants that use the same seasoning in all the noodle dishes so they all taste alike, only the type of noodle changes. I wanted to have the mango and sticky rice but Tee Jay said the mangoes were not as ripe as he'd like them to be so he didn't want me to be disappointed. I appreciate the concern to serve the absolute best and not just serve me something that's not to his standards. I'll call next time and hopefully they have ripe mangoes. I have to say I absolutely loved Tee Jay's and I'm happy I stayed. They cook all different types of street food and comfort food such as burgers, hot dogs, beef stew, tuna casserole, and clam chowder! Wow, this was very, very unexpected. TeeJays is a lunch counter inside a dank, smoky casino. Yes, you need to enter the casino and cross the gaming floor (it's small) to get to the restaurant. It's got maybe a dozen counter stools. And it is the only place in at least a 300 mile radius serving Indonesian food. I ordered the mie goreng (noodles) with tofu and it was superb. Spicy, full of fresh vegetables, a wonderful savory sauce, and clearly made with love. Next time I will try the nasi goreng. (They also serve burgers and all-day breakfast - gotta admire this two man operation!) I'm very rarely in Carson, but now I know where I will be eating lunch every time I am. read more

Don't know what else there is to say about this place. Tasty, fresh, food that's not too heavy but still satisfying and filling. We had the green curry with beef and the chop suey with chicken and tofu. They were both out of the park home runs! The friendly chef/owner TJ sure knows how to cook. We took are food to go and ate it across the street at the plaza, great idea. read more

What a Great Little Cafe. We went for lunch as we had seen the place Before during Nevada Days. As we walk up they were thinking about Closing for the noon break, but said " Please let us help you , What would you like". My Wife ordered the Clam chowder "it was Amazing " and I ordered the Cheese steak Sandwich " it was Great ". They offered to refill my Wife's bowl of Chowder and would not take No for answer. It Nice to talk with Them as they prepared Our food "They were amazing company And very Upbeat individuals ". Will return again and again read more

You'll find it (if you're lucky) inside Cactus Jack Casino. Chuck and TJ were very friendly and make suggestions based on my dietary restrictions. They recommended the glass noodles and chicken. Hidden in plain sight at Cactus Jack's in Carson City, this restaurant is a gem that serves wonderful Thai food, as well as American cuisine (burgers, hot dogs, etc,...). You have to go inside Cactus Jack's to find the restaurant. Lots of parking outside. You can sit at the bar and watch the masters cook, or order take out pho, chow fun, chow mein, other Thai food including pad Thai, or burgers. I ordered chicken pad Thai as is was Pad Thai Tuesday. Spouse ordered Thai eggplant stir fry. We also had Thai iced coffee and sodas. They serve almost Beef RendangDeluxe Grilled Cheese Sandwicheverything here. Even if you are a picky eater, there is bound to be something for you at TeeJay's. The owners are down to earth and will chat with you if you are so inclined. If you're in Carson, this is a go to restaurant. Don't miss it. read more

This is the third visit for my wife and I. Wow!!! Each visit has been met with exceptional service, food portions and excellent food! This is a solid 3 and may change after I go back and give it another try. And, I will be going back for another meal. I went with a friend who loves this place but didn't want to tell me where it was because of the condition of where it is located. It is located inside one of Carson Cities oldest casinos that could definitely some freshening up but don't let that discourage you from walking and giving Tee Jay's Corner Café a shot. It is run by two very friendly gentlemen who seem to love what they do and are service oriented. I had the Red Curry and my friend had the Wonton Soup. We both enjoyed our meals and the conversation with Tee and Jay. The Red Curry needed something more and I asked Tee if he had and chili sauce. That was just the ticket and added just the right amount of heat and taste to the meal. Not so sure my stomach agreed with me later but it was just what the flavor needed. When the description says corner it is Absolutely true. They are in a corner of the casino and have 5 stools on either side of the very cozy kitchen. So you get to hang out with them and watch them cook. They definitely take care in what they serve and with limited space they offer a surprisingly good verity of food options. Don't be suspired if there some tweaks to traditional items, with limited space they have room for menu items. I will be back for another meal and will update my post then. Almost hate to say this because I want to be able to get a seat when I go back but defiantly would recommend stopping in and say hi and the next time you are in Carson City. read more

We have now officially found our favorite Carson City road-trip stop. This is a darling food counter inside the very small Cactus Jacks casino. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, the staff is incredibly friendly & welcoming. They have a large menu with lots of delicious options. If you are at all adventurous, my recommendation is to try the Indonesian pot roast. The lumpia was really, really good and their Jasmine Iced tea was fresh brewed and over the top good. My only regret was not getting food for leftovers at home. read more
