I never like writing negative reviews... but sometimes it must be done. This was my 3rd time at Teikoku. I decided against ordering sushi because frankly, it's overpriced ( ex.- $6 for a standard tuna roll...) and just not as good as rolls from authentic Japanese restaurants. So I went with my other favorite food- the Chilean sea bass special. I asked the waitress if she had tried this dish before and informed me it was one of the most popular entrees. Alright, I'm sold. As you can see from the picture, I was presented with around a 3 oz portion of fish over a "king-size" bed of spinach and mushrooms and asparagus. The fish was delicious- but gone within 4 bites. The rest of the dish tasted like soggy vegetables and was severely under seasoned even with the orange sauce. For $28... I expected more. My partner ordered the volcano roll and both he and I agreed it had too much of a fishy taste to it. He couldn't even finish it, and he LOVES sushi. It appears as though this restaurant puts too much effort into the appearance and presentation of the dishes and not enough on the actual taste itself. New staff and manager along with a very long wait for food, and food not at the expected level was not complimentary. I have to call out Joanna at the front desk who showed real polished PR skills and was outstanding. She was the bright light today. I was here when it the seafood place....Nice to see a change. Great atmosphere and very relaxing. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Menu had much to choose from. Good for not sushi lovers too! We had the Peking duck appetizer. Very good, too small a portion as two each was not happening. We also ordered a poseidon, red dragon @ 18. each a bit steep if you ask me, my son who was my date even commented about the cost. and volcano, dragon and spicy yellowtail along with a sapporo and kirin.... the total was just under $100. This is my absolute favorite place for sushi. The staff is all so nice and efficient. Great atmosphere and I love the lighting in all of the rooms. The food is always amazing and displayed beautifully. Tends to get pretty crowded but sitting at the bar or in the waiting area is pleasant while you wait. read more

Consistently underwhelming in taste not a great value for the money. This review is based on what I remember for dinner a few years ago and a recent brunch experience, and even though my dinner was a while ago, the impression left at that time was reinforced when I went to brunch. The brunch was a buffet style and had a great variety but I though the spring rolls were soggy despite getting there and getting food just as they opened. I also thought the sushi was incredibly underwhelming without much selection and way too much rice on the rolls. Other than that the hot food options are all average and nothing that blew me away. I think the issue with this brunch is that they do have good food but they don't have the turnover rate needed to keep everything fresh. As it stands, for $25/adult and $12/kid for Sunday brunch, I would go to fogo de chao any day. read more

Just went for Sunday brunch and it was delicious! They are using masks and spacing as most places. But they added disposable gloves so you can use the tongs in the buffet. It's perfect to take my family so everyone can pick and choose what they want. They have a good variety of sushi and seafood. What I like is the sushi has a good rice to fish ratio. My kids are obsessed with their shrimp pops! They also have American brunch options like french toast, waffles, and bacon. I've also been here for dinner and absolutely have loved everything we tried. Our favorites are the penang beef, spicy noodles and their sushi is super fresh. If you get their giftcards from Costco, you end up saving 20%. Definitely will be going here regularly! read more

We've been eating in other restaurants nearby for the past two years, but never stopped in to try this place we were there last night, and we were pleasantly surprised. I've been here 3 times and have not been disappointed. But let me add that I do not enjoy fish or sushi, except for Tuna...my GF however, LOVES sushi and thoroughly enjoyed her Godzilla Roll. I had the Peruvian Steak, a sirloin cooked to perfection with a side of Peruvian sauce...its good whatever it is, i don't usually use anything on my steak except for salt\pepper it must have really tripped my trigger for me to not only try it, but keep putting it on the steak! We also got the Hot Rock Kobe Beef appetizer for 20 bucks...its 8 or so paper thin slices of delicious Kobe beef served with a Hot Rock...dip the beef in the marinade, drop on the rock for 5 seconds, turn it over and enjoy...expensive appetizer, but everyone at the table was amazed and the process of cooking at the table is kinda cool too. I mentioned I don't do fish...but everyone else at the table loved theirs...mom had the salmon, my brothers the butter fish...all promptly devoured...another in the group isn't a seafood fan and got the chicken terriyaki...the chicken breast was fantastic, and there was plenty of it! No complaints at our table of 7, they were even nice enough to clearly write on the bill "GRATUITY INCLUDED", which I really appreciate. They also have a nice little bar area that may be fun for Happy Hour, it was quite busy when we left Saturday evening. This beautiful restaurant really hits the spot for the lovely wife and me. She loves sushi and I don't. However I love Thai and these folks are a combination of both. This is a very beautiful space. It's a little dark and generally quieter than average. This is a nice place for a romantic dinner. Parking is a dream with lots of space. Philly folks should note that Newtown Square is seriously out in the western suburbs. The most direct route is on Route 3 and that will be about 20 miles. Other routes on more major highways can extend this to 25 miles or more. If you are choosing from the Thai menu, many appetizers are in the $10-$15 range. As other reviewers have mentioned the Kobe beef hot rock ($20) is amazing. The selection of appetizers is very large so everyone will likely be pleased. I'm a carnivore so I tried the Panang beef (Grilled Angus rib eye, assorted vegetables in a panang curry, $20). Delicious! I can't comment personally on the sushi but the lovely wife gave it two thumbs up. A visit here should be a very nice 4 star experience. read more

The restaurant does have some interesting options, which get big brownie point. However, the price was quite high for most dishes compared to other Asian or thai restaurants. I really enjoyed Tempura fondue but other appetizers were just OK including calamari (you can order it without as salad), fresh roll and spring roll. Vegetable maki roll was actually pretty good. Drunken noodle and Basil crab fried rice were quite salty for my taste. Green curry vegetable fried rice was OK but nothing special.. Banana bread pudding was good but not worth $8.... Anyways.. it would be a good place to try different dishes with friends or coworkers on someone else's expense account but I am not sure if I would go back there for my own.. We used to absolutely love the food at Teikoku as well as the atmosphere. We returned (assuming the main issues were resolved) the week of June 22nd, 2020 for our anniversary dinner. Again, another good meal despite finding brand new restaurant inspection reports circulating indicating continued roach activity (utterly disgusting and appalling)?! I'm not sure why this place can't get their pest problem resolved? Also, when eating outside the smell of sewer permeated the entire meal. It was another huge strike against our meal and my overall review and experience. I strongly suggest avoiding this establishment until they get their act together and major issues resolved. read more

I'm so glad that my office is close by in Newtown Square so that I can have lunch here. Usually I order sushi to go but yesterday my co-workers treated me to a special birthday lunch at Teikoku! It was delicious and the service was great. There were 8 of us in the group and we were in an out in just under an hour. I had the avocado salad as a starter and it was a large portion for only $5. The salad is mixed greens with radish tossed lightly in ginger dressing and topped with slices of avocado. For the main dish I ordered the Chicken Red Curry entrée. It was my first time trying this dish and I liked it so much that I will def. order it again! The portion is perfect for a larger lunch. A half of chicken breast is sliced over veggies and topped with a creamy spicy curry sauce. They give you a choice of white or brown rice and serve it on the side in a bowl. ATMOSPHERE: This is located on a busy dual highway where trying to navigate to the store may be difficult. The inside is very interesting, dark, and clean! Cloth napkins and heavy utensils. A bar and a sushi bar as well. Plenty of seating along with lounge type seating near the bar area and intimate dining around the rest of the place. FOOD: We ordered a couple mixed drinks first and a Chay roll, a Teikoku roll, and Philly roll. All are raw, would've been nice to have some cooked roll options. All were good, and recommended for anyone who is looking to try sushi or is a diehard sushi fan. Boss ordered the red curry chicken and I got the fried rice and vegetables add chicken. Both were good- nice portion size. Highly recommended on both. Shared the Teikoku chocolate soufflé. Very good but too small to share. SERVICE AND COST : Service is good, they are very courteous and make sure your water glasses are filled. Also have answers to menu questions. Got to say this is so far the best sushi place in the PA burbs! Why? Menu selections and because they of an extensive selections, I at first thought sushi wasn't going to be that great...well I was wrong. I'm a huge sushi fan (not rolls but the raw) and even that they have better fish selections than the typical sushi places around (golden eye snapper, shima ahi,etc.). Quality was great as well! Personal thank you to Monica....she waited on us...amazing personality...very warm, personable; even the sushi chefs were open for reviews, took our feedback...teikoku for life.... The fatty tuna was to die for...I don't have words, it was one of the best( top 3). The rolls not the best, they can do better, they can have better combinations but I won't take a star for that...coz the service beat down all d other points of concern....again Monica was fabulous...we knew almost everything on all the dishes and also Abt nearby sushi restaurants...I can't tell enough about our experience. I don't know Abt other staff but we had an awesome experience. The chocolate souffle can't be categorized completely as one...it's more like molten chocolate cake but that was awesome too...I had all the three junami daijingo sakes the restaurant has to offer...my personal favorite was dassai 50...my mom had omakase, all the dishes were unique and good except the duck sous vide but even that was changed and the chef made a chicken entree cooked to perfection. We went for happy hour. We ordered 2 orders of wings ,edamame, and two sushi rolls. Each of us had a drink. They were not great but ok. The bartender was not friendly at all the edamame was hard, the wings were dry and the sushi was dry and tasted like something that you would get at the acme. There were three of us and none of us finished our food. My husband did go to the manager after we paid the bill, as we were not trying to get anything for free, just to let them know that the food was not good. She (Kylie) said nothing but ok. She never came over to us and apologized or even acknowledged us as we left. Later this evening I decided to call the restaurant just to say that I was disappointed at the response and that I really thought they should have come over and all I was told was "sorry that was my bad "and she thought my husband was by himself. Regardless of who he was with they should have acknowledged our dissatisfaction. I love going out to eat when I can and I am ok paying for a good meal, but the fact that they don't care about their customers or their product is seriously disappointing. A lot of people can barely afford to go out and look forward to a good meal when they do. We will not return It's a shame they used to be so good. Haven't been to Teikoku in years and the food was still very delicious. Forgot to take pictures of the Kobe beef stone but comes with 7 pieces, the meat is very soft and melts in your mouth. The crab meat thai basil fried rice is amazing one of the best dishes on the menu! Dined with a group of four and ordered the chefs selection off of the sushi bar menu. I will start off by saying that although I think the food was 4 stars, I'd put the service at about 3 to 3.5 stars. I went yesterday evening with a friend and her family. It had a good crowd but was not jam packed. We were seated right away. We started off with some edamame which was salty and delicious. I should add it was not overly salty. For the main course, we split all but one (the Mexican) of the signature rolls and they were all delicious. The sushi is incredibly fresh and the flavor combinations were different from other sushi that I've tried. One of my favorites, the Godzilla, incorporated pieces of strawberry, honey, and crushed macadamia nuts and it was delectable. The Volcano and the Teikoku were also fantastic. The reason I would give the service a little bit of a lower rating is because our waitress wasn't incredibly attentive. One member of our party asked her for extra ginger and she forgot to bring it. When she brought us our check, it took her 20 minutes to come back and get our card. I would still come back for the food and hope for better service! read more

I have to admit, I am a regular. They have one of the best Happy Hours and the food is consistently good. Typically order a sushi dish, spring rolls, etc. and the incredible hot rock Kobe beef! The bartender Monica is so pleasant, attentive and always serves with a smile. Yes, it can be expensive, but well worth the $. For the West Chester area, their sushi is some of the best. I've only been here for the Sunday brunch so I can't give an opinion on dinner. The Sunday brunch is from 11AM to 2PM and it's $25 per person. That's a bit steep for lunch but it's worthwhile going to with the selection of food you're given. There's also a complimentary glass of mimosa that's included in the price. They serve sushi at one station with a good amount of variety. At the center, they have American breakfast food and Chinese food. At another station, they have desserts and fruits. The desserts are generally truffles and French macarons. They also have a station that you can have an omelet made or a waffle made. It's a great place to go to for special occasions and having came here three times, I've never been disappointed. read more

It was our first time at the restaurant. The restaurant is in a very nice location and has ample parking. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 star because of the hostess and the server. The hostess doesn't seem happy to be there. Our server was nice yet she missed some detail like my husband got his food on a chipped plate. When I showed it to her she did apologize but you know it wasn't sincere. Also the whole time we felt a little rushed!!! But the food is DELICIOUS. We started with grilled octopus salad. We were torn between kobe beef hot rock and grilled octopus salad. But the salad was GREAT. Then we got Poseidon sushi. again DELICIOUS. Then I got Chilean sea bass. Outside is a little crunchy but inside is so soft. The sauce I am not too crazy about it but overall great dish. My husband ordered divers scallops. He loved it!!!! Tuesday night super calm! The server was cheerful. The food was really good, really good. The 10 piece duck, asparagus etc. was delicious!

The food was delicious, the atmosphere was appealing and the service was a little delayed but nice.

Best time to go is for happy hour (5-6:30pm), otherwise it's overpriced. The sushi is very good, and bar service is very friendly and prompt. I also got their happy hour chicken wings which were very good. You can definitely get sushi just as good at some other local places (Asuka for one). But their happy hour specials are worth it. Try the Cray roll, or King Kong roll, those are both fantastic. read more
