Very nice local diner. Classic atmosphere and with excellent service and big portions! Loved the bottomless Boyd's coffee, can't beat black coffee at diners. Kid got his water in the paper cup:) Went for what seemed to show up on reviews the most. - Ranchero steak & eggs = the steak was tri tip, which was too chewy. It worked out once I started slicing thin pieces from it and it became tender enough to eat. * I think the correct choice is to pay more to get the 12oz NY steak and eggs instead, since tri tip just too chewy. The famous ranchero sauce was good, but quite spicy! Kept eating it despite getting heated from spice, since it added the flavors. - Chilaquiles supreme = chilaquiles was good, but the tri tip piece from the supreme upgrade made it too chewy and detracted from the base chilaquiles. * I think the regular chilaquiles would be the better choice to enjoy without distraction of tri tip pieces. Or maybe ask if can make the supreme with other protein choices maybe some chopped up bacon or sausage pieces instead if allowed to substitute? - The hash browns side was perfect and delicious! Definitely wins over the homefries option. - Cinnamon roll = huge and a meal on it's own. was too much after the 2 entree's The menu is so vast, I think it's a winner as long as you stay away from entrees with tr tips. This place is a really awesome diner. And very unique since it's inside an old house. The food was awesome and the service was great too. Just happened to find it here on Yelp while in town for something else. Was so stoked I even had to buy the mug. My daughter had the kids meal with a Mickey Mouse pancake that she loved. Sunday morning breakfast at a spot with strong diner energy -- old-school feel, quick turnover, no fluff. It was busy but not chaotic, and I grabbed a seat at the bar with no wait. I went for the steak and eggs (probably the priciest thing on the menu at $29), mostly out of curiosity -- and because I was nervous that medium rare would come out overcooked, I asked for rare. It came out very rare -- more red than I wanted, but still good. The ranchero sauce saved it. Gave the plate just enough taste and heat to make it work. The real winners were the hash browns -- crispy, golden, and hands down the best part of the meal. I'd come back just for those. The sourdough toast with butter also hit the mark. No tricks, just done right. Ordered fried egg whites, and the server called them "flat plain eggs," which honestly cracked me up. A very diner moment. The kind of hangout where a Jane Fonda sticker in the urinal wouldn't be out of place. Lots of friendly locals. Felt like a little piece of Texas had been dropped right into the middle of California. My kinda place! First, the food was top shelf! Then the vibe and atmosphere was exactly what I love, rustic, Americana and down-home! The service was just as good as the food, very attentive and accommodating. The owner himself even came to the table to chat with us and see how we were liking everything. Turned out we had a couple things in common, so he sat and chatted with us a while, but not in any imposing way at all. I driving a wine tour today. I picked up grandma & grandpa in Nipomo. Picked up the "kids" in Paso with the new baby and we're sittin' at Joe's for breakfast. I sat myself at the counter, my favorite solo spot in a diner. Easy enough, menu was tried and true. I realized that their prices were a bit lower than most menus I've read lately...hum. I found a Wimpy Omelet, that looks good. They subbed fruit for the potato and that was the best mix of different fresh fruit, ever. Well in no time at all my breakfast was steaming hot in front of me, Thank you. Delicious as ever, bacon, turkey, cheese, sliced avocado on top, and a side of salsa, Yummy. I don't think I ever came up for air, it was really good and flavorful. Credit cards accepted, no they didn't let me wait till Tuesday. It can be difficult to see Joe's from street level, since it sits upon an elevation, ample parking but I'm sure it's a mad house on the weekends. Diner-style cooking, in a homestyle setting, as if going to visit a favorite grandparent. The interior felt very comfortable and homely, and had lots of military decor throughout. I opted for my standard chicken fried steak and eggs, with hash browns and biscuits and gravy. It was hearty, filling, and delicious. My wife got the chilaquiles. She loved it. Her tortillas were crispy, her dish well-season, and she was very pleasantly surprised by the refried beans (which apparently isn't standard for other restaurants). One was definitely not have a good day but she was not my waitress. Mine was fine, as well as the other staff would all seemed to be helping out. We got here just in time! About 20 minutes after we arrived there were no more tables and a line. The food was made and served faster than it took to make toast! Joe's Place is one of those classic restaurants that makes you feel like you stepped back in time. The whole dining experience and atmosphere makes you feel like you're eating at someone's house. It has a cozy feeling and a little bit of country vibes going on. We made the mistake of coming here on a busy holiday weekend, but we only waited about 20 minutes. The ladies that work here were hustling and bustling to crank out orders, wait on customers and ring up the checks. Clearly these ladies know what they're doing to get the customers in and out; all while maintaining a friendly and positive attitude. Bravo to them! The majority of customers here were Veteran's, and an older clientele. They have a lot of pictures on the wall dedicated to people who served in the military, but unfortunately, they do not offer discounts for military. I found that kind of odd, given that they pay tribute to them. Ok, on to the food! I decided to order the Monterey Omelet, which was filled with Ortega Chile's, onion, jack cheese, and covered in a ranchero sauce. The omelet was much bigger than expected, but no complaints about that since I had left-overs. The sauce reminded me of El Paso picante sauce. It was flavorful, and kept me full all day. The hash browns were golden and crispy; which is just how I like them, but I think the oil they used was either old or a very cheap oil. The taste was a little off for me, but nonetheless they were edible. I really liked the thick wheat toast they served here. My pet peeve is when you order toast and it barely has any butter on it. The toast served here had an ample amount of butter; which is just how I like it. My friend ordered the chile verde omelet and really enjoyed it. I tried a bite, but the pork flavor was a little funky for me in taste. The chilaquiles are Americanized here, and the cheese wasn't melted as you can see in my picture, but my friend said they weren't bad and he also enjoyed his meal. Overall, this restaurant served its purpose for starting off our day with a hearty meal and great tasting coffee. I appreciate the friendly service we had while dining here. read more

After a weekend of indulgent eating, I needed breakfast that didn't make me feel bloated. Joe's place had just what I needed. The restaurant was clean and the waitress was friendly. When we arrived, it was not too crowded, but it filled up quickly. We were served water and coffee almost immediately upon sitting. We placed our order and we served in just a few minutes. So, the lady at the hotel told us about Joes when we asked her where we can now have a breakfast where the locals would eat. We don't like tourist restaurants. Anyway, the food was pretty good here this morning. They need to offer turkey sausage though. not everyone wants to eat Pork sausage. Parking is a little tight in their lot so if you have a really large car, you're not going to like it but you can park on the street also.. This place used to be a Mexican restaurant. I think it was called Lolos. We ate there once when it was Lolos but I don't think we liked it. It wasn't real Mexican. We would come here and eat again. While wine tasting in Paso, the wife and I tried this place for breakfast on the morning we were leaving. We were not disappointed. The vibe of the place is very homey and feels like you're in someone's house. The owner clearly has tremendous respect for veterans and all things military as the place is decorated with images all over it. As a veteran, I really appreciated this. The servers were on top of us with coffee as well as service. They worked symbiotically to the point that we had no idea who our waitress was, but it didn't matter because they all worked well together and were super nice. The portions of the food were as huge and I enjoyed my chicken fried steak and eggs. My wife didn't really care for the chiliquilles but that was the only miss for this place. Will we go back? 100% yes! We'll definitely have to try some other breakfast options but if you want a hearty breakfast, especially before you go winetasting, this is the place to go! read more
