It's a small restaurant but for Gilroy it doesn't get auntie then actual Greg sashimi and chefs who take care and prude in their cuisine. I lived in Japan town for 10 years and after trying Ten Japan after horrible food at Ninja Sushi, Omakase, Cre-Asian, and more I finally found a legit place with the freshest food in Gilroy. I've have been so excited to try this place. It is very rare to find sushi without rice. They open at 5pm. I called at 5:03. I got a 30 minute wait. I thought that was pretty long for 2 rolls. Oh well. You park in the parking lot and wait for them to call you. At 5:45 I called them to see if my order was ready. Nope. Another 10 minutes. Well I wasn't very hungry at 5 so not a huge deal. 49ers Roll - strange in a good way. I thought mango in a roll would be odd, but it works. Geisha Roll - skip it. Might be riceless, but not worth the money. Garlic Edamame- $6.50. Geeze. Trader Joe's sells an entire bag for less than that. One of the menus on here said it was around $4. Nope. The raw fish in both rolls were not fresh. A positive is no wasabi in the box! I hate that one piece that is touching the wasabi. Thank you for wrapping it up separately. Love this place! Definitely the best sushi spot in Gilroy. The atmosphere is really nice and relaxing, the food is spot on delicious, and the service is very friendly. My husband and I have been coming here often for the last year. Whenever we want to eat out it's never a question of where, we always go here. At least once every two weeks, but sometimes as often as two times a week. The yellow tail carpaccio is my favorite, along with the 49er roll, but I have ate extensively off the entire menu and nothing disappoints. They also have specials you can ask the waiter about and you end up with such creative and delicious dishes. Oh, and the ramen is sooo good. It is a small restaurant without much seating, but it's worth the wait. read more

The sushi is hit or miss. We have dined in and taken out. Some are good like the eel. Others are ok. The service is rigid and abrupt. Which some may enjoy while having sushi. The biggest concern for me is what the restaurant cannot control, but should be made aware of is the horrid smell that permanents thru the restaurant from the next door nail salon. Hands down the best sushi place in town! Rolls are not obnoxiously large covered with massive amounts of rice. You can actually taste the filling in their rolls. Also, the lead sushi chef (possibly the owner) is actually Japanese, so it's authentic (unlike many places in the area). The restaurant is small, so they can't handle large groups and you may have to wait during the dinner rush, but totally worth it. This is low key the best Japanese restaurant in California and it's easy to miss the details if you don't know what to look for. The rice here is done expertly. It's sushi rice with the perfect amount of seasoning and cooked to perfection. I would argue this is where most mediocre sushi places fail -- their rice is too undercooked, vinegary, or plain. I will order this rice as a side with togarashi to season and eat it. It's that good, but you won't notice unless you're looking for it. The tempura shrimp is one of the best I've had. It's freshly battered and fried which means you get a light batter and not greasy. Served with warm soy-based / dashi dipping sauce which is another nice touch. Salmon nigiri was amazing. Tuna was just okay - I also did not enjoy their fatty tuna. In my option, it had a very fishy taste and was not fatty enough. I'm not sure if this was chutoro or otoro, but it didn't matter because neither had the fat content expected of fatty tunas melt-in-your-mouth decadence. Still... this place has no business being as good as it is. It's mind blowing to me that one of the best sushi places that's affordable and not omakase is based in Gilroy. My friends don't believe me. I haven't tried their ramen, but I'll give it a shot next time to compare to giants Ramen Nagi which is my gold standard. read more

Don't accidentally pass this sushi restaurant up it's definitely a hidden gem. The hours are a little funky but just make sure you check before you head over. It is a small and intimate place so arrive early because the seats fill up fast. Lucian was our set and he was very kind and helpful. So many great rolls here. A few of our favorites are dragon roll/ spicy Mexican/ citrus roll/ and shrimp tempura. The fish is absolutely delicious and so fresh I can't leave without ordering a plate of sashimi. I asked for a wedge of lemon for my sashimi plate. They did charged us 50 cents extra for a lemon wedge. It did catch me off guard but I'm assuming it's because of the pandemic. read more

Last nights dinner was incredible! There were 5 of us so we tried lots of rolls and sushi. Forty-niner roll, lethal weapon roll and Gypsy roll were all unique with the freshest fish and unique sauces. The presentation with the different sauces and or tempura flakes add so much to the experience! We had yellow tail, albacore with ponzu and butter fish that melts in your mouth!! And I have to add the tempura is done to perfection! No heavy oil, light and fresh! Oh and although it's a small space the atmosphere is charming and our service was great! Food is good. never have complaints about the food here, but the service i received last time really threw me off. my partner and i were seated at the bar. we had ordered a bowl of ramen and a small bowl because we usually share. We were barely halfway through the bowl of ramen, when one of the employees came up to us and asked if we were done eating with the original ramen bowl because there were new customers trying to order ramen as well. Mind you, there is maybe 6 people in the restaurant total. Delicious! We order the 49er but instean of mango inside we get lemon on top. Sakura is my favorite. The citrus roll was good, the yellowtail was fresh. I personally do not like the chive oil they put on the side of the rolls. I will be ordering without next time cuz even on the side it gets all over. OK-- the two chefs making sushi are wearing them while leaning over the food and making it, but the young lady taking phone orders, walking into the kitchen and relaying orders, and then organizing the bags of food to bring it to you, only puts on a mask when she has finished wrapping the food up and walks the food up too you, to take your money. Otherwise, she is unmasked around largely uncooked food. I almost refused to pay and honestly, I should have just walked out. Let me just say it's been a while since I've been here but the food was great yesterday evening. My boyfriend and I went in a little date night and we chose this place to dine. The garlic edamame was spicy but not garlicky enough. The miso ramen was satisfying but it wasn't as hot as I thought it would be. We enjoy our soups really hot and for some reason this wasn't, it was enjoyable but not hot enough as in temperature wise. Now the sushi rolls were on point for us, Sakura we delicious in flavors but it was a little to soft for us. The Spicy Mexican has great crunch and flavors. We read a review that said to make sure we dip the roll in all the sauces it came with, well we did and it was definitely spicy and yummy also crunchy. Mmmm. The service was also great with them checking to see if everything was all right or if we needed anything else. Always good. Always a super friendly staff. The only reason we are a star short of perfection is the dining area is tiny... you order more than 3 rolls good luck geometry-ing your dishes to make it all fit. You can most likely hear the people next to you in all the awkward conversations that arise, but the food and sushi will leave you willing to go back again and again. We always get the Citrus Roll and Spicy Mexican roll with the Spicy tuna on crispy rice appetizer. They have great sake and beer options, one of the only places I've been that serves Orien beer. We decided to have some variety so one spicy tuna roll and one CA roll with the combos.
