My kid likes this place A LOT for ramen. But still not saying much since she thinks Tap Ramen is amazing. As for myself, well, it's not bad, but nothing really to write home about. There service is SLLLLLOOOOOOW. GEEZ! And I just got to saying, the worst salmon skin hand roll I've ever had. Smh. Not a lot of salmon, but filled with red onions, YUCK!!! Delicious and very well prepared sushi! I tried it for the first time and was very impressed from the moment I called to place my order. Service was very professional and friendly and they are keeping everything very clean during the pandemic. We had the Sakura roll, Mexican roll, 49er roll and a California roll. I liked that the rolls were smaller than others I have I found them perfect for a smaller mouth! ;). We also got shrimp tempura. Everything was very tasty! Highly recommend! read more

It was our first time here, after many attempts only to face a line out the door. We came early for dinner and walked right in. The overall experience was good, decor was nice and the food was tasty. My only let down was the quantity of chicken in the Teriyaki. The flavor was amazing, and my favorite in Gilroy so far but based upon the price it was just a fair value. My son picked this place for his 16 bday meal. When we arrived the door the greeter said - what do you want- which kind of threw us off but we answered we wanted to eat there- so she sat us down. The menu online differs from the menu at the restaurant and if you are vegan or vegetarian this is not the place for you. The waiter was super nice and asked the cook to modify the miso with ramen so it would be vegetarian and the cook wasn't hearing it so I had to have some bland sweet potato tempura for dinner. That would have been OK if my sons dinner was good but he was super upset that the chicken in the soup was cold and that the ramen wasn't very good. He ordered a side of steam rice that was all chunked together, needless to say his wasn't happy. My boyfriend ordered chicken teriyaki- to which he said the sauce was amazingly delicious but the chicken tasted old and precooked. We wanted to like this place but sadly my sons pretty upset still. Pretty mediocre and underwhelming. The atmosphere looks very nice, and definitely has great decorations and ambiance. However, the food was average at best for the price. First off, my waiter really didn't know what he was doing. I understand that he may have been new, but I had to repeat my order 3-4 times for him to take it down. When he came with our food, he clearly didn't know the difference between Miso Ramen and Shoyu Ramen and handed to us wrong. Probably needs more training to be more familiar with the menu. Food wise, the California Rolls we ordered were pretty good. The ramen though, was too salty, noodles weren't chewy, the meat was bland tasting, also no egg. Aesthetic was also very mediocre. Not up to par with rest of Bay Area Japanese restaurants, but good for little old Gilroy I guess! read more

Love me some sushi and decided to go to Ten Japan since I was in Gilroy. This isn't my first time here but, it's been a while due to COVID. The strangest thing happened! Usually, upon entering a Sushi restaurant, the chefs will shout out a Japanese welcome, but never here, so it isn't the friendliest place in town. Regardless, I returned because I enjoy the agadashi tofu (not printed on menu) and why not give it another chance? However, today, after ordering the salmon teriyaki, the waiter returned to the table to inform me that the chef did not recommend that I order it. I asked why & he said that last time there, I had sent it back. Mind you, I hadn't been to Ten Japan in at least 1 year. Talk about holding a grudge!! "Hmm," I thought, " maybe the chef was mistaken?"The waiter insisted and told me the chef has a great memory. I reflected. Maybe I had sent back my food last time, but I truly could not remember. If I had sent my food back, there had to be a good reason. Isn't that what a customer usually does if something doesn't taste good? However, it seemed the chef was holding onto some ill feelings toward me. I ended ordering a combo of shrimp tempura (perfectly fried) & chicken teriyaki, which, unfortunately was dry and lacked flavor. When the waiter asked me how everything tasted, I honestly did not know what to say, so I gestured, "so-so" with my hand and said, "Please do not tell the chef; he'll only get madder at me!" He immediately went to the chef and ratted me out. I did not want any further confrontation; it was very clear to me that the chef/owner was still mad at me. The waiter advocate insisted on continuing to discuss my choice. Okay, here's where I draw the line. Regardless of how good or bad the food experience is, a restaurant customer should always be made to feel like a guest in one's home. It should be a happy time. If something isn't prepared "right" then the customer should be able to send the food back or express dissatisfaction. This gives the restaurant an opportunity to correct. But, holding a grudge over a returned dish - after a year?!! Now, that is bizarre!! Most of the food is good at Ten with the exception of the chicken teriyaki; it's disappointing. Also,the prices are on the high side ($22 for lunch combo plate). So, for the unfriendly reception, retribution and mistreatment, I give Ten Japan a low rating. I do not plan to return to Ten Japan because there are so many other restaurants I can spend my money where I will be a welcomed, respected and appreciated customer. Sayonara, Ten Sushi! read more

Our to go orders are never small or simple. We order for 5 adults and we all like a variety. I have gone to this place a few times now. I have to say it is pretty good. Taste is authentic, I compare it to SF sushi which they have some of the best since I don't travel there often anymore ii looked around here and found this place. I did try some other places but decided to return here. Pretty good service and gone to a few other places either too bland or the same old thing. Absolutely terrible customer service. I ordered and was paying for the Spicy Mix for my ramen. NO Spice mix. We ordered a roll that came with no wasabi or soy sauce. They suggested we go out of our way to go back to pick it up instead of providing alternate convenient methods. Your money, appetite and service deserves better elsewhere read more

Now I don't really give 4 stars but read this to understand why. The portion is pretty good but the price is just a little high. It's sushi so it's understandable. For people who don't like sushi/never tried it: I highly suggest by starting out small to try out their cucumber sushi and California roll. A Cali roll consists of : cucumber, crab meat, rice, and seaweed wrap (excuse me if I missed a part) But that is so good. Had a terrible experience here. I ordered my favorite fish, albacore, and received ahi/maguro instead. I told the waiter immediately and let him know it wasn't what I had ordered. Sushi has been my favorite food since I was 7 years old (I'm 40), and I eat it at least once a week - I'm very familiar with what I order. The waiter went back to the sushi chef and they insisted that it was in fact albacore and to give it a try and perhaps it was just a different color than I was used to (albacore is a white fish, the name 'albacares' actually means "white meat" - this was bright red like Ahi/yellowfin tuna) and if I didn't like it he would take it back. I tried one bite and confirmed it wasn't albacore and kindly sent it back. Then a different waiter came to the table, and he was visibly upset and extremely confrontational and aggressive. He said I couldn't send it back and they wouldn't take it off the bill because they gave me what I had ordered and I had taken a bite. I politely explained that it wasn't what I had ordered and that my waiter had insisted I try it. He then told me that it was a "Japanese albacore," which was different than the white albacore I was used to, to which I explained that it should be implied that when I placed my order, I didn't mean to order "Japanese albacore," something I'd never heard of in 33 years of eating sushi. My kids were present and the waiter was visibly shaking and at this point he was scaring my family with his aggressive behavior, so I paid the bill, including the "Japanese albacore," which I later looked up online and was a complete lie. My wife was disturbed by the waiter's actions, so much so that she asked me not to post anything out of fear of retaliation. He seemed deranged quite honestly. One of the more decorative sushi places I have been to. Generous portion of seaweed salad. Probably one of the best seaweed salads out there, it's crisp and not slimy. House salad has cute yummy tiny tomato and that Vinagrette is succulent! Barley Tea is so elusive I could keep drinking it all day and never get tired. What happened to the service?? They even changed their business hours... Came in the other night for dinner, around 5:30pm. Was given the option to sit anywhere we'd like. A guy server came with menus then "took" a drink order (hot tea and water). There was only one waiter and a trainee who didn't even bother bringing drinks, to say the least. 5 minutes later, nothing. 15 minutes later, nothing. 20 minutes later, nothing. Two other parties came in sat, got drinks and their order taken. (Drinks brought to the table by the trainee) 35 minutes later, a second waiter and tea and water!!! 40 minutes later, our order was finally taken!! Two ramens and a side salad. 1 hour later, FOOD!!!! They really need help! And I sincerely hope they get it. The food is probably the best in town so it's a shame they can't match it with the service. Can't say I won't be back because I will. I have SEARCHED for a good Japanese restaurant in the Gilroy/Hollister/Morgan Hill area and FAILED. My mom and I decided to give this a try. We both LOVED it. That's saying a lot since my mom grew up with Japanese cooking. (Grandma) I have more traditional Japanese taste buds, none of this "fusion" stuff. I asked if they could make me Futomaki instead of boring California roll..... They didn't have kanpyo so they made me a different version. I liked it! I was so happy they actually knew what I wanted!!!!!! The Gyoza was awesome. It is made fresh. The Karaage was delicious. Tempura had a nice variety of veggies (Asparagus, carrot, eggplant, broccoli, shiitake mushroom) They give you tentsuyu (Tempura dipping sauce) NOT RANCH LIKE SOME PEOPLE.... AHEM... YUCK! Nigiri was good! Fish was fresh! I asked for ponzu and they didn't bat an eye! :) I think it helps that they are Japanese, so this way they know what they are doing!! I didn't have to explain ANYTHING to them which is a relief because most "Japanese" places look at me like I'm an alien when I ask for certain things. I expect them to know because it DOES say Japanese!!! lol Anyway! I give this place 5 stars. I would give more if I could! I will definitely be back. Homemade...but extremely high grade... This place serves some great sushi. Made with love and care you can tell every piece of sushi is created with a lot of attention .. The service is left to be desired because I think the son of the owners is the only one working their and he's running around taking care of to many things at one time. The mom helps out now and then and she bust her buns to cover what the son misses. The sushi here is not pretentious and created with simple elegance.Moderately priced and sized just right, this place has the best sushi in gilroy that I've tried thus far...I don't know if that was proper grammar. Pretty average in my opinion. We stopped by after a camping trip and wanted to get some lunch. They have some lunch specials that are decently priced and most things on the menu (i.e rolls) are actually a bit cheaper than usual. However this also translated into smaller portions and quite a few people left hungry. I ordered the ramen with a spicy tuna roll on the side. Price wise it was pretty good - only $9.95!! The spicy tuna roll was pretty fresh and tasty However, the ramen was just ok - meat was kind of tough. Nothing else (noodle, veggies, etc) really stood out. They use fresh corn, which was probably the best thing. My bf ordered a tempura and teriyaki chicken combo box. The chicken was a bit weird. I think they use white meat instead of thigh meat so the texture was off. Tempura was pretty good though. Service was ok - nice guy but forgot an order from our table. Ramen : We were visiting Gilroy Outlets and this was literally the only ramen place I could find. But even if another shop were to open I don't think they'd do well for some reason. The ramen was good; savory a little salty and noodles were of good consistency. (I had Miso and my bf had Shoyu.) They looked identical but there was a clear taste difference. Portions are decent and filling enough. Space : Clean interior and very little seating. I can't imagine how hectic it'd be if there were to be a line out the door. This place is really good, very fresh, etc. We're they fall off the deep end is the serving size. I order an order os salmon sashimi here and you get paper thin pieces, for double the price of other places. For example. If I order salmon sushimi from sushi boat Town in South sanjose it's just as fresh, just as high quality, yet they are cheaper and give me twice the amount of fish.... the rolls here are small also. Over all the food quality , presentation, and taste is there. The portions are not even close.... and apparently it's a well known issue with this establishment, everyone I also about it says "no, there expensive for what you get. Not worth it" I feel bad leaving a review like this because I'll say it again... the foods good.. but they don't give you any! read more

I love the ramen at this place. Orenchi in Santa Clara and Ramen Dojo in San Mateo are my top two favorites, but this place can easily fit in the top 5 on my list. I am glad that Gilroy has a good ramen place without having to drive to San Jose on cold nights when I am craving a bowl. Other things to try are the spicy tuna rolls and the green tea creme brulee.
