Good to be back at Tender Greens. The last time we came was some time during or after the pandemic, when restaurants had to create their make shift outdoor eating areas. Fast forward to today, the vibe and design of the indoor eating is relaxing, very social, comfortable and relaxing. Today we had some of the best salads Tender Green had on the menu. All three were uniquely prepared, organic, delicious and fresh. No complaints. Just take a look at the pictures. The service was great, our server was also the attendant at the counter. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Truly felt comfortable and welcomed at the restaurant. Not that many people were eating in, mostly a lot of pick up orders, Uber Eats and such. I used to get take out from here every once in a blue moon and it's usually really good. I would get the steak with mashed potato or some sort of green thing. This time, The steak was not medium rare. It was more medium well. There wasn't even any bloody juice on the bottom for mashed potato and gravy I prefer just the mashed potato by itself. Not sure why but I'm not a fan if the gravy. I always thought baby arugula was supposed to be sweet but when I got it, it was kind if bitter. This place used to be my go-to spot for a quick healthy meal pre-pandemic, but after coming here for dinner, I'm sad to see that quality went downhill. First, pricing went up. It's no surprise since inflation happened. I always grabbed the steak plate, and the steak was overcooked. They're known to prepare their steak medium to medium rare, but my steak came out to be medium - well to well done. Sadly, all the steak pieces were like that, so I didn't bother to exchange it. The mashed potatoes tasted earthy in a bad way. It has a dirt aftertaste to it. This was super disappointing since I loved Yukon mashes potatoes. Guess I won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

I ordered the grilled mediterranean steak salad for takeout. It's not that the salad was bad, it's that it was WET. Dressing was on the side, but the lettuce, especially the arugula, which I threw out, was waterlogged and lumped together. There was also quite a bit of water in the bottom of the bottom of the container. I worked in the restaurant business and after you wash lettuce, you dry it! It ruins a salad when the lettuce is wet. When you are paying over $20.00 for a salad from a restaurant that specializes in salads, you expect them to know better. You order at the counter and the food is brought to your table. Service was friendly. I had the Mediterranean Steak Salad with feta, cherry tomatoes, pickled cucumbers, sweet peppers, olives, red gem lettuce, arugula and lemon vinaigrette. The steak was cooked perfect medium rare and the salad was refreshing. Before ordering the Fried Chicken Sandwich my wife asked if the chicken was one large piece of chicken, she was told no it will be sliced. The sandwich came with one large uncut piece of chicken. The sandwich was country-style fried chicken with cabbage slaw, pickles, spicy maple glaze, miso mayo on a sesame bun. The chicken was very mist and the toppings added to a flavorful sandwich. The restaurant had soft music playing but the staff behind the counter made so much noise it was like being at a sporting event and drowned out the music. I had a great meal at Tender Greens this evening: the salmon plate with arugula and farro as sides. I also loved my agua fresca. Both of my dining companions had the shrimp bowl, and both complained that it was a bit too spicy, and that they hadn't been given a choice about the level of spiciness. Ordering was a little confusing - why have us look at the whole food prep area if we don't order first? There weren't any tables for more than two people available, so we moved some tables together. Another delicious meal for me. This time I chose the California bowl with salmon, and was very pleased. It had a very nice taste and everything was very fresh and clean. My sister ordered the fried chicken and did not care for it at all. She said it tasted like it had been sitting out or something, and did not seem hot and fresh, and did not even look very appetizing to be honest with you, it was very flat and almost floury, looking in places. The day we went the restaurant was absolutely packed and we had a hard time finding a table at first. It was a tight fit to get to our table, but it was comfortable enough once we were there although you are right next to the people at the next table. I do use a mobility device as well as have a service dog so I have to consider where I am sitting, because my dog absolutely needs to be tucked away under the table but luckily the table that opened up, was at the end of the row, so he was able to lie against the wall under the table out of the way. The prices are reasonable for the quality and the amount of food we received. My bowl was chipped, badly and kind of bothered me for a few moments but once I got started with my meal, I really didn't care because it was so good. The older woman next to us waited for her food while taking good sizes "sips" from a fancy little flask, she pulled from her purse and several people in line stopped me to asked what I had ordered since the line ran parallel to our table. Times have changed. I wish they would bring back the old way of ordering of serving, similar to ordering at Chipotle. The good news is the food seems to still be on par to how it was prior to Covid. Sometimes a bit too oily and salty, but not always too concerning. The customers are still flowing in, in packs, during lunch and dinner hours. My concern is the wait. I've ordered 3 times now on the app, and each time, my order is not ready by the pick up time. This last visit, I waited 20minutes past, and they forgot to prepare an item, so I had to wait again. I went to this location for the first time in a couple of months, and understood why I NEVER COME TO THIS LOCATION. The day shift of waiters and cooks are slow, and take their time walking to and fro serving the food. I was the first person in line, and it took 5 minutes to place my order! How ridiculous is that! Two groups of people went to the other cashier and received their food 20 minutes before I received mine, even though I ordered first! The food is decent and filling, but the waits are insane. Wow, five stars for Angel all the way!!! He was great at recommending dishes and extremely attentive with delivering our food, checking in to make sure we were good and overall, providing excellent customer service and representing the brand well. I would do anything to keep him as a front of house employee. The food was tasty as well, so hats off to the chefs in kitchen! We ordered the fried chicken sandwich with a side arugula salad and chicken katsu bowl that came with greens with a carrot-ginger dressing. Everything was great and we would definitely come back. If you asked me what my favorite restaurant was about 5 years ago, I would have answered with Tender Greens. Sadly, today that isn't the case. Staff was kind, street parking was easy to find around the corner BUT food really missed the mark. My go to order for years has been their chipotle bbq chicken plate and I even order it for my kids sometimes. Usually there will be 2 heaping scoops of mashed potatoes and a nice crisp skin on the chicken. Yesterday we got skin that was burnt to an inedible black crisp with unusually spicy sauce doused on top and just one measly scoop of mashed potatoes. Piece of my chicken had a bone or hard white cartilage part as well. My kids and I couldn't even finish the chicken because of how spicy it was and I'm someone who hates to waste food!!! Also, for their seasonal veggies, why don't they just remove the sweet potato skin before roasting!? The sweet potato skin was tough and tasted like cardboard. Food: Amazing! The steak Myles ordered was cooked perfectly! The mashed potatoes seem to be a customer favorite as rightfully so. Tatyana's salmon was also cooked perfect. Overall, a great meal that left us full and satisfied but also energized! Service: Service was great except for one hiccup. We asked for our gravy to be on the side instead of on our mashed potatoes. *COVID Update* Masks required inside, but not while eating. Hand sanitizer is available by the register. There are plexiglass screens installed along the food/order line. It's hard to hear the person talk on the other side. Social distances are marked on the ground. This location is close to Roy's, which is at the corner. You have to find street parking, or you can find a parking structure/garage for all day parking. The concept here is very much like that of Urban Plates - healthy portions and sides. There's a huge menu on the wall, which is very helpful. They have the same menu but smaller posted next to the register where you order. You get a number (and your drink) after you order and pay. The servers will bring the food to your table when it's ready. My go-to is usually the seared tuna plate with a side of salad. On this visit post-2020, I got the steak plate with kale salad and seasonal vegetables. I initially had the intention to bring half of this home since I wasn't hungry. As soon as I started eating though, my stomach was like, "Girl, you're finishing this." I cleaned that plate up so nicely! The steak (medium rare) was amazing. The kale salad was delicious. I actually have never seen kale stems before, so maybe they had baby kale?? The seasonal vegetables were actually not bad. I was worried they'd be squishy, but they were grilled and seasoned just right. The carrots might have been a bit harder and crunchier than I would have liked. I wish I had more zucchini. I got a piece of bread that was 2 inches by an inch and a half and two little tiny slices of avocado for two dollars that is ridiculous. This is my second time at the Pasadena location. I loved the irvine one so when I went to the Pasadena one for the first time I was so excited, only to be disappointed by the dry skirt steak that I got. I went again and I was once again happy and in love with tender greens. I got the buttermilk fried chicken and it was sooooo good!!!! I've tried the chipotle bbq chicken and the salt and pepper chicken and both were pretty whatevers. The buttermilk fried chicken is definitely the best tasting one out of the three. So basically what you do is pick a protein, a salad, and another side (potatoes or cooked veggies) and then it comes with a piece of bread too. I love their meats because usually it's very juicy and tasty. The salad choices are also very good. I usually can't decide which one to get. There's kale, arugula, spinach, and a few others too. You go pay, go through the food line, wait to get your food, get your utensils, and then you find a place to sit. read more
