Good place for quick dinner when you are super hungry and want to eat right when you sit down. We usually get going on sushi before we even get our drinks! It has more nigiri than say Blue C sushi, which has more rolls so if pure looking for rolls type of sushi, this might not be the place for you. Fast and friendly staff. A perfect place to grab dinner before your movie! Fish quality is not the greatest but not bad for the price. I've never tried their dessert but those cheesecakes going round and round seem a bit too soft, almost melting looking. Lots of parking makes it very easy. We squally park right in front at 30min parking. Yes, we eat a lot and fast! for two of us, our total before tips usually around $50 (no alcohol). read more

This is the best conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Seattle. The sushi chefs never overstock the belt, which means you can trust the fish on the belt is fresh (and delicious)! The sushi rice is perfectly seasoned and the prices here are really good, too! The staff have always been very kind, but I take off a star because they are frequently understaffed during their busiest hours, which adds time when waiting for a seat or for the bill. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves to eat Japanese-style sushi. If you don't care for raw fish, then you may find just as much satisfaction at places that cater more to the American palate, but the cooked options here are delicious, too! read more

I don't understand why this place has such low reviews. I've been here twice. Ordered ikura and Uni from the chef, picked off some other stuff from the belt. They all taste fresh and delicious. I don't have many reviews bc first, I'm not addicted to being an elite yelper, which goes to another saying, that most of them are just doing it bc they like to blabber even when they don't know shit. It's a free country I get it. But just makes me mad when you criticize so much when it is actually a decent place. My rating would be 4 stars for the food. I want to like this place, but it really falls short. Location/parking: I really liked the location right next to the mall/movie theater. Super convenient. There's parking in the parking garage across the way - I rarely find a spot right next to the restaurant and those are only 30 minute parking. Ambiance: Typical strip mall type conveyor belt sushi place. Nothing memorable here. Service: The waiters/waitresses are very nice, but you do have to wave them down to get help. Food: This is where they are sadly lacking. Everything I tried was just, blah. Not a lot of choices for someone who doesn't eat the nigiri. I like food. Especially when it's chicken or fish. That's why I have a live-bearers relationship with sushi places. I just keep grabbing plates and when I leave, it's not cause I'm full, but instead cause my wallet is empty. Now, there are plenty of delicious options here and there wasn't anything I didn't like. That was the issue. As soon as I finished one plate, I looked up and there was another coming around the corner I've been waiting to try. What I like about here is we were able to be seated pretty quickly and get right to eating sushi. They have a good amount of options ranging from a couple bucks for a plate of rice or edamame, to the pricier tuna rolls at around $6 or 7. I grabbed just about everything. It was all great, I just wish it were more filling. Buuut, I could have just ordered one of the full meals instead so that was a me problem. read more

Good food, nonexistent service. Oh, I am so disappointed. I've been coming here for several years, and I even went during Covid. For the last six months the service has been nonexistent. I enjoy the food, but the waitstaff appears to never have worked in a restaurant before, or even been in a restaurant with table service in their lives. Today I went for lunch, and the waitress showed me a seat and gave me a menu. I said "I'd like to place an order" and she said "what?" so I said "I'd like to place an order." She went away, I assumed to grab a notepad. She never came back, and none of the other waitstaff ever came over to me. I turned halfway through my meal, caught the waitress's eye and gestured at the menu. No response. This has happened the last six or seven times I have been there. I wanted to order green tea and three menu items. No such luck. I left no tip for the third time in a row. I just looked at the other comments and noticed I left essentially the same comment on 8/31, last time I was here. I could easily be a weekly customer; it's close to where I work. That's $120 a month or $1450 a year of business they are losing. read more

Sooo incredibly disappointed! This restaurant was owned by a family friend and ever since he stepped back, you can see the slow decline in the quality of the sushi and the service. While we were sitting and watching the conveyer belt cycle the plates, I could see just from that the half-assed effort put in. First of all, cucumber/tuna roll (which only are literally that, rice, and seaweed) were all cut to different sizes - looked like a small staircase or the cellular service symbol that goes from smallest to biggest. Sushi rolls have too much rice, and the presentation with the filling is messy and looks rushed. The nigiri pieces have hacked up pieces of fish that are simply placed on top of the overworked rice. I'm not really sure why some plates of fried california rolls are cut into the proper circle pieces (straight down) while others are cut on the bias.. inconsistency in preparation. There needs to be quality control!! Our server was so awkward and made us feel uncomfortable. There was no sincerity or even interest in her tone of voice. I understand that for some people it may be their first job, but have a little common sense or at least respond with something other than "oh" or "uh". Was greeted by a lady, we get seated and instantly she says we can't order hot food. We say okay knowing we could. We say "oh I thought we can't order hot food" and the same lady who said we couldn't order says "umm.. we can try" didn't even want to argue, we just felt like they were trying to close early and we left. I love the convenience and price of Tengu Sushi. I came here after watching a movie at the Thornton Place Regal theater, and the restaurant gave us 10% off the bill when we showed our movie ticket stubs. The sushi isn't amazing but there are plenty of selections with good flavor. They serve the usual California roll, salmon nigiri, Philadelphia roll, etc. They also have less common dishes like crispy salmon skin roll, salmon kama, sunomono, etc. I do find some of the sushi can be a little soggy. But if you watch the chef and make sure to select the freshly made plates, it should be okay. read more

All of the more expensive rolls and higher quality dishes were just empty on the conveyor belt and they weren't refilling them. The location is convenient, a 1 minute walk away from a movie theatre. I come here for dinner when I see evening movies, and all of my friends enjoy it. read more

We got some sushi but ended up ordering some basics from their menu. The udon was affordable but noodles were too soft. Most sushi items were $5 per plate for two pieces of fish. We spent over $50 for two people and honestly was underwhelmed. Wanted to have a cheap go-to sushi spot. This was not it. Save your money and try another place! Out of all conveyor belt sushi places, I would highly recommend Sushi Tengu. The server is always busy as there are so many people dining in this restaurant and is really hard to ask for something we need. Otherwise, I would have given 5 star. So, here is how I rate this place compared to the following: 1. Sushi Tengu - You get more than what you pay 2. Sushi Maru - You get what you pay 3. Sushi Land - You get what you pay, the quality is not that good (but really cheap) 4. Blue C Sushi - You get less than what you pay. Quality is also questionable depends on the location. This is the best conveyor belt sushi joint around. The quality of sushi is a lot better than other chains around Seattle! The 2.50 salmon nigiris are my favorite. Ugh so good. You can also custom order your sashimi or other dishes. We tried chicken karaage and chicken katsu, both are very good! The only downside is when it gets busy you have to flag down the servers to get your water, order side items or ask to pay. I love this place. It's right near the school so it's always tempting me. My poor wallet! The quality is very good for the price, and especially for belt sushi. The chefs are always really nice too, even when I try ordering food with my elite Japanese 101 skills. Let me frame this correctly - I rarely say I'm a connoisseur of anything. In fact, I would never even dare call myself an expert in the realm of a grilled cheese sandwich or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I know for a fact, there are people who have stronger palettes with those food types than I do. True statement. With that said, I am a connoisseur of sushi. I was raised on sushi, have lived in Japan, and have gone to some of the best sushi bars that Tokyo & Osaka have to offer. For what it is, Tengu Sushi is (a conveyor belt sushi place), is a phenomenal value and I would stake my sushi reputation on this place. Add to the fact that, the sushi here is owned by people who actually can speak Japanese and were trained on how to make it (read: did not learn how to make sushi by watching YouTube), this place is one of the best places in the city. Sure, if you want Americanized sushi with skittles, rainbows, and every type of fish on top (so you actually can't taste anything in particular), go to Umi. But if you're a sushi purist like I am who just appreciates good fish, well made rice, and a nice ambiance, this place is solid. Definitely in my rotation. read more

Just so you know, I'm rating this place 2.5 stars - if it were possible to rate stuff based on the sweetness of the wait staff alone, it'd rate closer to 4, but as you're coming here to eat and not get talked cheerfully to by a very eager-to-please waitress, I gotta go for the 2.5. Sushi Tengu isn't bad. Don't get that impression. It's more that it's... not good. Here's a run down of my impressions: * Eel. I always measure everything by eel, since it's my favorite dish. Eel was rare to appear in rolls (except a dragon roll near the end of the night, where it was draped across a california roll, as if to desperately try and give it some class. ZING! Oh, I got you there, CA roll.), and as nigiri, it was slighly overcooked on the bottom, and I ran into - HORROR OF HORRORS - a couple bones. The sauce was pretty tasty, but it couldn't make up for the eel itself, which was served on an almost comically small niblet of rice. * Spider roll. Yeah, getting a spider roll for $2 is pretty awesome and all, but being that they're only 3 really wafer-thin rolls with little actual soft-shell crab in there dampens my enthusiasm a tad. The crab is nice, sure, but you hardly get any of it: I daresay for a $4 serving at, say, Blue C, I get more softshell crab than 2 servings at Sushi Tengu. 'So da ne,' as the Japanese might say. Or something. * Agedashi tofu. Good consistency, stable flavor, but not much to write home about. I could have done with a spoon, because I like to spoon the sweet soy sauce over the tofu more. And maybe to eat a little of it, but I'm a gross person so we'll move on from there. As a side note, they don't have much in the way of hot entrees, which is "meh" to some people as they're there for the sushi anyway, but I thought I'd throw it out there for people looking for a replica Blue C experience or somesuch. * Tamago - that's the egg. Weirdly served - cut with the rice in a wedge IN it, instead of on the egg - and yet still one of the tastier tamagos that I've encountered. Not overly dry, and it tasted like they actually used the sweet sake like they're supposed to. * Decent vegetarian fare. No avocado rolls or, heaven help us, natto (if you don't know what that is, you likely wouldn't like it), but decent enough selection. * LOTS of spicy stuff - and shredded. This, combined with the scant display of less expensive nigiri (no salmon, but fatty yellowtail) makes me think that they splurge on pricier stuff but get bargain-basement mixes on other fish - I didn't see many rolls with salmon, for example, and the ones I did either had it as a spicy mix OR paired with cream cheese (yuck) - either way, the flavor of the salmon itself isn't paramount in either roll, which makes me suspect a dearth of fresh or high quality fish. * Noob chefs. The rolls, as mentioned briefly, are super wafer-thin, and some are rather poorly put together - like the spicy scallop rolls, where I could hardly tell where one ended and the other began. In addition to this, the cuts on their marinated tuna also looked a little ragged, which makes me think - newbie chefs. We went in on a Friday night at 7:30, which is when your top guys should be working - either they weren't, which would be weird, or their chefs aren't all that awesome. Just putting that out there. * Decor. The etched-glass panels on the conveyor belt (which is, by the way, MASSIVE and will take a long time to get new stuff to you, but is out there to serve a lot of people) are cool, but that's about it. There's nothing visually going on in there, at all. High ceilings and lack of decor makes stuff have that vague echo to it, which is vaguely disconcerting. * Variety. There's a decent amount of stuff on the conveyor belt, and while they list what the dishes are in a certain cluster (which is handy) there never seems to be those delightfully weird experiments of chef ingenuity you find at more authentic places, OR the wide array of snacks/salads/desserts you find at more mainstream or "fusion" places. Just pretty much the basics of kaiten sushi. I guess there's a lot of nitpicking here, but really, while the food is very cheap and pretty good, the fact is that you can find better elsewhere without too much effort. Sushi Tengu is in a good location outside the Thornton Place movie theater, and I really do wish them the best of luck - I wouldn't mind coming back in six months and seeing how they've changed. I was actually praying to the lord Jesus that this place would just be edible enough to suppress my hunger before our movie. To my surprise, it exceeded my expectations and it was delicious. Way better than any normal conveyor belt sushi place i've ever been too. it seemed like a good quality sushi restaurant what my cousin and I liked - salmon nigiri - it actually tasted like top of the line salmon - scallops nigiri - it was my favorite - crunchy shrimp tempura - green tea creme brulee the thing that was cool is that they were organized by signs of what they were, and we got there right when they opened (5pm) so everything was hot and fresh, so I just got it during the best time!!! The bad thing is that it was expensive, but at the same time every time I go eat with my cousin it usually ends up being around 100 dollars, so a mere 50 bucks for two girls that ate like champs are a ok in my book. read more

Came here for lunch with little to no expectations. Most of my conveyor belt sushi experiences are mediocre and so I was holding Tengu to that same bar. However, when we went at lunch right around noon, everything was actually really good. There was plenty of sushi and chefs continually stocking with rolls and nigiri. Loved that there were so many types of salmon. The ones I tried were classic salmon, salmon belly and the sockeye (smoked). They were all really good. Also impressed with the higher end selection. The chu-Toro is probably the cheapest you can get around here and is so melty and delicious it's nuts. The only thing is that the sesame balls that came as a plate of 4 - one of them seemed a bit old and had a funky smell. I'd recommend they make sure the desserts and whatnot are still fresh to serve. Other than that we will definitely be back to try some of the appetizer stuff (totally wanted croquettes and kurobata but forgot to order) and to make my way through the rest of the salmon nigiri. read more

The four stars is in the context of rotating sushi bars...please do not think this is an upscale sushi place! Stopped in here after a movie and just wanting something light...and found a nice mix of fresh rolls and nigri. Unlike many conveyor places, the items are mixed up much more and there is a constant option of different selections. Waiters will also take special requests in a timely manner. The head chef is Japanese, so no fear of Korean knock-off-ness. The Salmon and Yellow Tail were very nicely done and at a reasonable price. I am a Blue-C Sushi hater...so any alternative to steer people away from that monstrosity of a chain is a welcome one. read more

Based on the wide range of Yelp reviews for Tengu, I was prepared for anything when we had dinner there last night, and was pleasantly surprised. OK, it's not the best sushi in the world or the best service, but for the price, it's totally fine. We were there at around 6 pm, and it was maybe one-third full when we sat down. The colored plates range from $1 to $4, with most items falling between $2 and $2.50, which seems very reasonable. (And the clear plastic lids feel sturdy enough to make me optimistic that they're washing and reusing them, not just tossing them in the trash.) The avocado roll ($1) was a generous portion and fresh. The 2-piece salmon ($2) looked a bit off-color but tasted fine, as did the spicy salmon roll ($2). The seaweed salad ($2.50) was salty with a slightly spicy kick, and the 2-piece shrimp ($2) was a little shriveled but adequate. The green tea cheesecake and cake roll looked tasty, but we didn't try them. The service wasn't great; a busboy would periodically come by and refill our water, but for long stretches of time, no servers or hosts were visible. The one thing that I think Blue C does better is having those little call buttons at each table - even if we had wanted to do a special order, there was no one around to get their attention and order from. They were pretty fast with the bill once we flagged someone down and asked for the check, though. Overall, it was just fine - inexpensive, decent sushi, and it's always entertaining to watch the little plates cruising around. I REALLY wanted to like this place so I tried it again. Never ever again. I went in and asked the girl at the counter, Alicia, how long it would take to make three rolls because I only had a 20 minute lunch. "Five to ten minutes" was the lie that came out of her. I told her I'd be back, and when I got back ten minutes later, it still wasn't ready. I wanted 25 munutes for three dumb rolls that weren't even very good. As I finally go to pay, she firstly implies that it's my fault it took so long because I ordered my sushi with no seaweed. Alicia, every single sushi restaurant should have soy wraps. You do not. Because of this I will order it without seaweed, and I expect it to come out that way. The chefs should know how to do that. Then this woman has the nerve to actually ask me for a tip! I didn't even think that really happened! I was already ten minutes late for work with just enough time to throw my food on the table and eat it when I'm off. Service is pathetic. I've never been more PO'd at a restaurant. The sushi is not amazing either. The price is good, but you really do get what you pay for.
