Chicken Yaki Soba Beef and Pork Combo

Super friendly owners and good food for a decent price. Definitely worth checking out and supporting!

What better way to use time before a movie (right across the street from Aurora Oak Tree) than with some delicious teriyaki? Spotless restaurant, excellent food and great customer service. When I noticed there was no tofu on the menu, the owner checked with his wife and said they could make either tofu teriyaki or tofu yakisoba. I went with the yaki and was rewarded with a hearty plate of veggies, noodles and crispy on the outside tofu nuggets that were really yummy. My partner was really pleased with the chicken teriyaki, his only regret not getting a large.

Its a little unusual for a Seattle teriyaki place to not offer tofu on their menu...the only vegetarian option on the menu is mixed vegetables, which is basically a huge pile of cabbage and one scoop of rice. It's okay for what it is but it's not the best joint if you're meat free. A little bland perhaps and the cup of teriyaki sauce included was only half filled.

This ma & pa spot is so welcoming and delicious! The owner was very personable as well! They have one of the best Katsu I've ever had. The chicken was so soft & tender, plus the breading was just at the perfect amount. My boyfriend had the chicken teriyaki- he also said that the meat is very soft and tender & the sauce is sweet and savory! The portions are also large for the price! I definitely recommend this place! Their teriyaki/Katsu will seriously hit the spot!

The place was not hard to find at all. I like how practical and simple the restaurant is. They have great deals on the food. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and katsu combo which turned out good. They were not special or anything in terms of food or restaurant vibe but I would like to comeback for their good price on food.

I stumbled upon Manna Deli & Teriyaki through a friend of mine who lived right around the corner from it on Aurora. I had never even heard of it before he brought me there, proclaiming it as one of his favorite teriyaki joints of all time. My wife then helped us make a life-changing discovery, asking me to order kimchi fried rice for her if it was available. We called the order in and the lady who answered said kimchi fried rice wasn't on the menu, but that she would make it for us. When we arrived at the restaurant, she emphasized that she was making it "special" for us and that it was certainly the best around. Her claim proved to be true. She came out with a RIDICULOUSLY heavy takeout container full of kimchi fried rice, flavored to perfection with spicy cabbage and good portions of smoky pork. She told us she had made enough for everyone to try. I didn't realize she meant she had made enough for the entire Beacon Hill neighborhood to try, though, cause we had leftovers for DAYS. Be careful about bringing leftovers to work cause the stuff, as you might expect, packs a punch. If kimchi fried rice strikes your fancy, know that you can only order it at night - a friend went and tried to get it for lunch and the lady said she only makes it for dinner. The teriyaki there is fantastic as well. The portions are huge, so you get serious bang for your buck. The teriyaki sauce is fantastic - it has a texture and body to it that allows it to coat and stick to its intended target just enough, unlike many teriyaki sauces that just drip off the meat/rice and end as a puddle in the bottom of your takeout box. This place absolutely rocks. I'll willingly make the trek from Beacon Hill to get some of this 'yaki heaven any day of the week.

We ordered the chicken teriyaki, chicken breast teriyaki and Cali rolls (they were the advertised special). I loved that our food arrived with nice presentation! The utensils and tables were clean and the woman who took our order pleasant. Surprisingly the rolls were fresh and tasty! Even when eating left overs later that evening, they were really good! My chicken breast was thin the way I love it and their sauce wasn't too sweet. It was heavy on the ginger which is the way I enjoy my teriyaki. My hunny enjoyed his as well. So, I'm pretty sure we'll be back!

This is not a 4 star place. However, the gentlemen who took my order was pleasant and of good cheer, hence 3 stars and not 2. The food is nothing special. I had the chicken teriyaki with gyoza and I have had way better dishes of the same thing elsewhere. I was only in the area for a workshop at North Seattle College and I do not live in this area locally so I cannot recommend anything close by. I can go by what I know and if you are looking for a really good teriyaki place, this one may not be your best bet. If you choose to come here, you will at least be greeted pleasantly and they will steam your gyoza instead of frying it if you request. There would be a photo of my take out meal, but I was too hungry and totally forgot to take one before half the meal was gone. Oh well!

Not a fancy place but good food at a reasonable price. If you eat in it is presented on a nice tray. I will definitely go back.

Cold, dry, undercooked rice, watery sauce that isn't even teriyaki sauce, got my order wrong, and bad ranch dressing. Just skip this place.

Nice owners and great food. Always fresh veggies in all the dishes is probably my favorite part. Protein portions are generous

That said, the food has always been great. We usually have Shrimp tempura Udon, along with some rolls. The rolls are large and fairly priced. We are partial to spicy tuna or eel, so the rolls we pick usually have at least one of those ingredients Very excited that they have a Shinko Maki, very simple, but not all sushi places have this. We have not tried the Nigiri or Sashimi, so I can't comment on those items.

It doesn't look like much from the outside so I was pleasantly surprised by the inside. It was quite spacious with beautiful art pieces throughout the place. A lot of wood that gave it a bar like vibe too. We were greeted upon entry and immediately sat down. They have a decent amount of sushi options available. We decided to get three rolls: The Green Dragon Roll, The Godzilla roll, and the Dragon Roll. They were all flavored nicely with sauces drizzled on top of the sushi. The only thing that maybe I didn't like so much was the Green Dragon roll having a little too much avocado on top. We didn't have to wait long to order or for the food to come. I would very much consider this spot to be a hidden gem!

But I also want them to succeed and always be around, so here I am, writing a review. Modern Japanese is takeout only. I think they went this way during the COVID pandemic and never went back to offering dine-in. That's my guess because I only tried them about a year ago and have been a Modern Japanese takeout fan ever since. My hubs and I love their bento boxes, especially the salmon kama (grilled salmon collar). It comes with rice, salad, small California roll, edamame, pickled ginger, pickled vegetable, and miso soup. Everything tastes delicious. It's all cooked and prepared with care and love. Their sushi rolls are also wonderful. The chef and staff are always friendly no matter how busy they are. It's a tiny but highly effective operation they're running there. Modern Japanese is one of our favorite restaurants in Seattle and we're so happy they exist!

There were only 2 people working during the Sunday dinner rush. Usually chirashi bowls at Japanese restaurants in the area last me more than one meal or can be shared with one other person, but their chirashi is so skimpy that I was still hungry after. There were 5 different types of fish, but the cuts were so thin and small for $29. Kiriba is about the same price for chirashi, but comes with more. Unfortunately, Kiriba isn't open on Sundays, so I had to settle for Modern Japanese.
