I got the 3 Tenori's for $11 and tried the tuna, pork belly and KBBQ. Pork belly was definitely my favorite of the three. It's perfect if you want something substantial and healthy-ish but not too heavy although I'd get all pork belly next time. When I went it was during the world cup at lunch time and there was no one in line but there was about a 10 minute wait for them to prep it. My friend got the 3 for 10 deal and I ended up with a spicy salmon rice ball. It was light, flavorful, and most importantly, not dry. The amount of spicy salmon was good too; it wasn't just 90% rice. The flavor meshed well with the rice and seaweed; unfortunately, one issue was that it wasn't spicy at all haha. This was also the perfect snack because there are so many other places to try in Rodeo 39 so it's good to have a little snack here. So I ordered two 3 for 11 combos with 2 orders of pork belly, spicy tuna, and spicy salmon with 2 orders of Unagi sauce and Spicy Mayo on the side. All of this costed me about $25. The Spicy Tuna and the Spicy Salmon were both good but I liked the Salmon better. My parents liked the Pork Belly also. I also like how the paper wrapper has the which Onigiri it has. We travel to and from Orange County to visit family and whenever we get a chance, we always hit up rodeo 39 public market place. The worker was pretty nice. Service was a 4/5, nothing amazing or out of the ordinary but still good. My main issue was really the onigiri. The kbbq and the pork belly are best sellers, but they were super underwhelming. The onigiris were made with lots of rice, small portions of filling, an overload of bonito flakes (or something that made the onigiri taste like squid) that overpowered the filling, and the seaweed was really most and soft. The texture of rice and bonito furikake topping are nice, but is skimpy with the filling. It only took me two bites to finish one, which just isn't worth it. Even with three, I was still hungry. Flavor was somewhat difficult to distinguish because of strong bonito flavor on all of them. Honey Walnut Prawn was my favorite, followed by KBBQ and Pork Belly. You can buy one for $4, or 3 for $10. No brainer for me...I went with 3! I got 2 of the pork belly and 1 KBBQ. There was no line when I got there so the lady said it would be ready in a few minutes. I walked around but stayed near in case she called my name. When it was finally ready, it was neatly packed in a clear container. They were nice and warm. They were both equally delicious! The rice was cooked perfectly, no crunchy old rice here...just pure heaven biting into the little white clouds of bliss! The pork belly was seasoned very well and the meat was nice and tender. You really have to just try it for yourself. The KBBQ was just as great, and the flavor blew me away. It was just the right amount of sweet and savory. Sometimes you can bite into something that's too much of one or the other, but Tenori has mastered the art of blending them seamlessly! Will be trying the rest of their menu on my next visit. These were one of the best tasting rice balls that I have tried, even fresher than the ones I had at Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo. The KBBQ reminded me of marinated Korean kalbi beef with its sweet and salty flavors. The honey walnut prawns had a nice crunch to them and tasted great with the sticky honey sauce. Finally, the spicy salmon was more of the typical onigiri one finds at Japanese restaurants and was so good. Overall, I really enjoyed the rice balls here, they tasted amazeballs! :P However, I felt the pricing was a bit too much, given that these are just balls of rice with a little bit of filling. Depending on the time and day your wait can vary from 5 minutes to 20 minutes, I highly recommend calling ahead to place your order during the weekends as the wait can longer (up to 20 minutes). I tried this place twice prior to writing this review, when I first had the onigiris, they were fresh and warm. Perfect balance of rice to fish/meat ratio and the wait was also only 5 minutes. Loved how affordable and tasty this spot was! One rice ball costs $4, but three of them together cost $10. It's hard to find any quality meal for $10 or under, but this spot is it. I ordered their their spicy salmon, tuna mayo and mentaiko rice balls. Each one came wrapped in soft, warm rice coated with furikake and held in crisp roasted seaweed. My favorite one was the spicy salmon although all of them were good. If you do get mentaiko, be warned that it's actually pretty spicy!
