That said, the rice, beans, and guacamole were all very fresh and full of flavor, and the tortillas were a great touch. Today was my second visit to Tere's Mexican Grill and I decided it's time to write a review for this establishment. My son and I were out running errands and we were both pretty hungry. I was craving Mexican food and he suggested we come here. I can wholeheartedly say that this place just doesn't really blow me away in any aspect. Both of the times we've eaten here, we sat at the exact same table and I felt the same way about the experience. The food is good, but the service is lackluster and the ambience/atmosphere is kind of confusing. There's a lot of random decor here and there. Seems to be a collection of knick knacks and religious photos/statues...there's a random water fountain near the register. There are a lot of roosters throughout the place. I'm not sure if these all hold specific attachments for the owners or something, I'm not sure what the story is behind all of this. Erick was on duty when we walked in and he took our order. He wasn't the most pleasant/friendliest guy but got the job done. The only other employee we encountered was a woman named Claudia who had a more friendly demeanor as she cleared off our table and also gave me some more ice for my horchata. Speaking of, the horchata was NOT enjoyable and I've had way better ones at many other Mexican restaurants. It was just like swallowing whole cinnamon sticks and I do not recommend ordering it if it's a beverage you typically like. I had the carne asada burrito and it was delicious. It came with rice, beans, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, onions, and cilantro. The whole thing was then grilled to get it nice and toasty. It was a delicious burrito and very filling. It also came with a side of tortilla chips that were a bit too thick for my liking. I usually prefer thinner chips. My son had the Pollo Asado plate which came with rice, beans, pico de gallo and guacamole. He subbed the beans for a salad and said his food was delicious. He wiped the whole plate clean! They also have a small parking lot up the side street and behind the restaurant. You have to go up that really steep street and you'll see it there on the left. Overall, this place is not bad but I would probably prefer dining at other Mexican restaurants when the craving hits me. Their Michoacán cuisine seems to have found a good home in LA as they've been open since 2002 and still standing. Try it for yourself and see what you think! read more

Honestly, out of all the sit-in restaurants I've ever been to in LA, this is one of my favorites. Very fairly priced, great flavors (like, actually), good portions. I love ordering the chicken tacos or chicken enchiladas and a beer or a margarita. The margaritas are great and don't taste syrupy. I can't recall the name of the female employee who always helps/serves us but we love her. This place is very overlooked but I highly recommend it. Just started working in the area and so happy there was a Tere's down the street! I used to work close to the Hollywood location and was missing it. My favorite is the Chile Relleno plate with rice, beans and their delicious handmade corn tortillas. I will say I'm loyal to the Hollywood location but glad this one is here. If you like fresh, like-homemade Mexican food, this is the best in this neighborhood. Their salsas are delicious, the people are kind and the parking isn't too bad. This restaurant needs to improve its customer service, time management, and overall leadership. I waited more than 10 minutes for a DoorDash order without being told an accurate estimated wait time The first female employee who assisted me was initially very nice. However, a man who appeared to be the manager or owner began giving her a hard time instead of helping her manage the situation. He never acknowledged me, offered an update, or attempted to assist. Her entire demeanor changed afterward. When she handed me the order, I thanked her and confirmed the pickup in the DoorDash app. She says nothing to me. I then noticed that the Jarritos flavor was incorrect. The customer ordered grapefruit, but I was given mandarin. I politely brought it to her attention, and she told me they were out of grapefruit. I explained that once I confirm the pickup and move into the delivery phase, I cannot go back and refund or modify the drink. The restaurant should have informed me about the unavailable item before handing me the order so I could contact the customer or process the appropriate substitution. The person managing the restaurant also needs to demonstrate stronger leadership, communicate professionally, treat employees with respect, and help resolve problems instead of making an already stressful situation worse. read more

I called ahead and they said it would take at least 20 minutes since they make the sope fresh. I loved the crunch of the sope! I ordered carne asada and meat was tender and juicy! The restaurant is small but feels very homey. The inside was clean. Parking can be difficult though since they are located on Ventura. Today we did takeout and it was just awful. The order is was incorrect, don't allow special inspections if you are not going to look at it. The tostada salad had hardly any asada. My veggie enchilada was swimming in red sauce and it was very watery and lack of taste. The torta said salsa and sour cream on the side, nope it was in the torta. The tacos were not spicy, the gave the hot sauce on the side. For the amount of money spent,l you want the order to be correct. Getting my car washed next store and I was in the mood for a crunchy taco. Unfortunately, Tere's doesn't have crunchy tacos, but they do have Taquitos, (which is almost like a crunchy taco?). I ordered a single taquito, which comes with Salsa Verde and a small scoop of Guac. I also got the Two Tacos Combo Plate with a Carne Asada Taco, a Chicken Taco, Rice & Beans, It didn't come with any chips. On another outing, I ordered the Grilled Chicken Burrito, which did come with a handful of chips. In general, the food here seams fresh and is very good. The service is just fine. Extra Salsa will cost you 50¢ each. The inside dining room is large and nicely decorated and the front patio is very comfortable. This restaurant was so good!! The flavors were extremely colorful, light, and well balanced. It did not feel too salty or too oily which I greatly appreciated. We started with an order of chips and guac. Best chips and guac I have had in LA so far. The sauces that came on the side all tasted really good. My favorite sauce out of the three was the green one. My boyfriend got a carne asada burrito and gave it a 10/10. I got an order of chicken taquito combo. The taquitos got a 8/10 and the rice and beans that came with it got an 11/10. Presentation could be better but it's good for what it is! This was my second time getting take out from Tere's. The first time I got enchiladas which were fine. I remember feeling like I wasn't quite full even though I ate the entire portion and they weren't showstopping. Just fine. Today I got the chorizo quesadilla with a side of rice and beans. Rice and beans was without a doubt not worth the money. But the chorizo quesadilla made up for it. I heard they make the chorizo in house but can't confirm for myself. It tasted like it though! Every kitchen has bad apples. And every kitchen has bad days. Before coming inhere to write this review, a long deserved one, BTW, I went and read all the bad reviews. Because, as a Chef, I know we work hard enough for the good reviews. 5 star reviews are all great, and always well received. But bad reviews are the ones we care about. "What was wrong. And how do we fix it?" I believe there are about 3 complaints here about Tere's being "closed". Now, those I can totally understand. We have been here for dinner a few times now. My wife says 4. I believe there have been more. I'm gonna go with 4. The staff is always approachable and friendly. The food is always, in my experience, fresh, very tasty, very clean tasting. Never greasy. Textures are always on point. I always clean the plate. The prices are good. The ambiance is perfect.
