We ordered a spicy crispy chicken sandwich and a spicy crispy chicken teriyaki bowl, however there was nothing crispy nor spicy about them!! Food was blah and plain. Every bite was drips of oil, the breading/batter would come off. They charge for every sauce, their soda machine all flavors were flavorless. Everything tasted like sesame seed oil. The only good thing is when we complained about the soda they offered us canned soda, but the food we just couldn't eat! This place has been one of our favorites. Today we received the worse service and dining experience. My husband never received his plate . By the time I and our toddler finished eating I got up to ask about his plate. One rude heavier set gal said it's coming. It never came. We then lost patience on waiting. She then refunded the one meal , didn't apologize , treated us poorly, then walked away. As we were stunned about the poor service . I then went up to her and let her know that this wasn't right. We're traveling through California and chose this place far from the freeway. She then stated how is that her problem. I get the same thing every time, new york steak teryaki, and it's a 10/10. However, it's hit or miss sometimes. They've forgotten my order completely before, they'll forget sauces, or simply give me the wrong food. The steaks either amazing or sometimes they swap to this super small low quality steak that's just kind of gross. Also, asking for rare, they've given me a steak that was literally inedible as it was so raw. Overall I'll still continue to go here as when they DO work everything out correctly, it's amazing. Not great. We found it on groupon and love this type of food but it was bland and over piriced. I have actually tried it twice now getting different things, but it actually got worse the second time. They sell an order of egg rolls which only comes with 2 TINY egg rolls. They can clearly see 4 people in my party but they didnt even mention it. They got one of my order wrong. Instead of 2 salmon teriyaki don, I only got 1 salmon teriyaki don and 1 chicken teriyaki don. It wasn't even a busy morning as well and I even tipped them too...the salmon was good and delicious but the 4 salmon pieces were small. Chicken teriyaki don is just one piece of a chicken thigh cut into 4 thin strips. Protein portion seems a bit sad but the rice and salad was decent amount. However for the chicken and steak teriyaki don, there is a lot of meat but my chicken meat was dry. The soft shell crab roll was nice and crunchy but look at the dab of wasabi, looks like old wasabi too. My coworkers and I were very disappointed. Overall the food was okay but it didn't wow me. It's a nice space but the food tasted like warmed up left overs that have been sitting for some time and thrown back on the grill and the fried items had no salt or seasoning whatsoever. One of the healthier food options here in Merced, the different teriyaki bowls/combos are always good. My favorite is the tofu salad, they really use fresh veggies that are super crunchy. They do ask if you are eating there or take out upon your arrival. On one occasion my husband and I initially were going to take out, but then changed our mind. We decided to find a table and started eating, after a few minutes one of the employees came up to us and told us that since we had said "take out" we would actually have to take our food to go next time...but since we were already mid dinner that we could stay seated this time. This place was really good over a year ago, now it has gone downhill. The chicken is now a hit or miss on it being good or overly dry there is no in between. The New York steak teriyaki bowl has been the worst lately. Every time we get it over half the meat is either fat or gristle, and even over cooked at times. The rice has even been really weird at times to the point we don't even bother finishing it. When eating in the service isn't too bad, but can take awhile to get. read more

After reading some of the reviews I was a little nervous to try this place, but I kept hearing that it was really good from friends and family. We ordered the #1 Chicken Teriyaki, I had them do it spicy, it was not spicy at all but it still tasted good. The plate came with chicken, salad and white rice. We called in the order to go, when we arrived it was ready for pick up. They forgot to add utensils and napkins. For the most part it was pretty good, the price was fair for the portion. For a place that is slightly on the pricier side, I believe the customer service should be better don't have your employees flip a screen to customers asking if we'd like to leave a tip when it's not deserved the girls who work at the front line are almost always very rude, secondly all they do is package the food it's not even brought out to the table in a tray, the workers do not even ask if you want to dine in or take it to go. This place shouldn't make people feel like you're trying to drain every cent out of their pocket! As a Fresno native, and someone who has eaten food from the Fresno location of Teriyaki Don countless times, I was really excited to discover their second location in Merced, which is closer to to place I call home now. I ordered a #3 Spicy Chicken Combo, and it was Perfect (in fact, I ordered a second one to-go for tomorrow's lunch lol)! I also tried the Spicy Cali Roll, and that was good too. The thing I'd like to mention mist was the service though. The server who helped us (Patricia aka Patty) went above and beyond to make our first visit to the Merced location a success. She came to our table and provided additional sauces per our request, she answered all of our questions, and she asked if we had any suggestions. She was phenomenal, and we will definitely be going back again. My only other feedback would be: Please bring back the udon and ramen! We're entering soup season in the Central Valley, and the udon at T-Don is by far my favorite. :) read more

Service is impressively bad. I had purchased a Groupon voucher and it was set to expire so we went to grab some take out. The item we wanted happened to be the daily special, so it was a bit cheaper than normal. I let the woman know we had a groupon and she had me view and mark the voucher as redeemed on the Groupon app on my phone. She then let me know we could not use the voucher on daily specials. If she would have let us know before viewing the voucher, we would have been able to extend the expiration date due to Covid, but now we could not. I asked if we could pay full price for the items instead of the daily special price and she would not let us. She said she spoke to the manager and we were not allowed to pay full price for the daily special. She told us we had to order something entirely different in order to use the Groupon. I was completely with the Groupon having fine print, but they would not let us pay full price or find an alternative way to work it out. This is unacceptable as they made us view and mark the voucher prior to telling us. I wound up paying for the order with cash and losing my Groupon that I had paid for.
