Met up with some friends for brunch. We sat at the Terrace portion of the restaurant which serves your typical coffee shop/bakery fare but could also order actual food items. We had a pretty big group and had the whole place to ourselves where we sat next to the cafe. I ordered a cappuccino with almond milk and their breakfast plate that came with eggs, chicken sausage and potatoes. My order did come super fast and was brought to our table. The breakfast plate was a pretty big serving and couldn't finish everything. It was just your typical breakfast food items and nothing memorable about it. I did enjoy their coffee though! It was served with a biscoff cookie and coffee candy which was a nice touch. FYI though but valet parking is $20. read more

We run into this place during a rainstorm on Memorial Day around 7:45pm. We were soaking wet and the only guests. So no problem to be seated. Friendly service typical hotel bar/restaurant atmosphere / all ok. Happy to find a dry place. We ordered some starters to share - the hummus, the fries and the shrimps. All was good and freshly prepared. Only bad thing was the wine - we ordered 2 glasses of the Zinfandel unfortunately the wine was already oxidized - I should have known this because it's a common thing in places like that because the open wine moves not fast enough and is not handed probably after it was opened once - so it will oxidize. Other than that all ok - and we had a good time waiting till the rain ended ;-). read more

We attended Dragon Con today and chose to dine here in hopes that the higher prices would result in less of a crowd. As soon as the parade ended, we headed to the Terrace. We were happy to see that only a few tables were seated. That is where the happiness ended. One would think that the hotel and restaurant would have anticipated securing extra staff to deal with the business generated by Dragon Con. Within 20 minutes both the upper and lower levels of the restaurant were packed full. The lobby was full of unhappy people needing service with only one person at the counter. Before I go any further I would like to state that our waiter was nice and doing the best job possible. All blame for our disastrous experience is most likely managements for failing to staff adequately for the large crowds. Ultimately, it took forever to receive menus, water, food, etc.... Our burgers and tacos were very good. Everything else sucked. We ordered the fried green tomatoes appetizer specifically to enjoy with our prosecco and bloody mary's. The drinks arrived but we never received our appetizer. My salad was wilted and bitter. We were hot from the parade and thirsty but never could find a waiter for water or anything else. After walking around trying to obtain napkins and the rest of our food we gave up. We could never find our waiter but did find the bartender on the lower level to ask for our bill so we could leave and go somewhere else. He was nice and we felt bad for him. The staff was totally overwhelmed. Still we never received the bill. At this point 90 minutes had elapsed since we arrived and we contemplated leaving without paying since we had become invisible to the staff. The adjacent table gave up and left. At that point another staff member arrived in a different uniform and realized patrons like us on the lower level were walking out. He did apologize and we paid the bill but were unable to find a manager to provide feedback on this disaster in the restaurant. This hotel and restaurant used to be good. Every experience here for the past 18 months was mediocre to rotten. No more chances for this place. read more

I have tried to write this review several times but struggled with how to accurate share. We made reservations noon at Terrace for their Mothers' Day brunch. Upon arriving we were greeted at the curb by a valet and guided inside by an employee. He pointed to the restaurant. There were two employees at the small hostess stand who I told we had reservations. They did not ask for our names, but told us to go upstairs for the buffet. We walked up the stairs and saw some food at the top of the stairs, but no employees. We walked into an open room with tables and food. We noticed another family getting food and drinks, so we asked them if it was self seating. They shrugged and said they sat themselves. So we sat down and waited for an employee. After 10 minutes we got up and made our own drinks. After several more minutes made our plates. The Mother's Day brunch buffet ad said the main meat would be ordered from your table. After another 5 minutes we heard an employee walking a family upstairs. He seated them and brought them menus and asked for their drink order. We stopped the server and let him know we had not been greeted, served, or anything. He said ok, but did not return to us or send another employee for 10 minutes. He continued helping the other table. We noticed more and more employees walking around, refilling the buffet, and assisting customers. When he finally came over and asked what drinks we wanted I pointed out that we were there first and most of all not pleased. We ended up asking for the manager because I was ready to go. Very disappointed in their lack of service. The manager asked us to stay and said he'd "take care of us". The service improved and the food was good, but I feel MY Mother's Day meal was ruined by the first 45 minutes there. When we were ready to leave and received the check it was the full price. We had to ask for the manager again. He took the check and came back after comping my daughter's meal and discounting mine by 50%. I guess this was taking care of us. Needless to say I will not return to this restaurant. I suggest you save your time and energy by choosing a different restaurant for special occassions. read more

Stopped in here for a quick lunch. We were seated right away outside. I stuck with the walnut cranberry bread and chicken salad which came with a salad. The salad was a little overdressed, but the walnut cranberry bread with chicken salad was absolutely divine. The bread was moist and the cranberries gave the whole sandwich a dressed up feel. Our group of 4 booked a dinner here during Dragon Con. We were betting on the distance from the main hotels and the fact that this is a hotel restaurant rather than a stand alone would give us better service. We arrived and requested an outdoor seat. The service was very good and we had no issues with requests for additional condiments or correcting errors in what was delivered. On to the food. Our appetizer plate was short one item that one of us noticed. The staff quickly brought the additional item. The main entrees were a disaster. The fried chicken was over cooked and dry. The butternut squash ravioli was flavorless. The squash was slightly sweet. The ravioli was unremarkable and had no flavor at all. The sauce, while colored like squash, could have easily been corn starch and water if you were blindfolded. Another guest at the table said their shrimp and grits were flavorless and they wondered how you mess up that dish. The grits tasted like they were just dumped into boiling water with no butter or other seasoning. The real insult is you can get much better shrimp and grits at some of the non-hotel restaurants within 3 blocks for less money. The rib plate was probably the least offensive dish we ordered and our only complaint there is that the kitchen should offer options in addition to a sweet bbq sauce. There are much better options in the area. I would recommend staying away unless you're rushed and even then a burger from the Peachtree Center Food Court would be a better value. read more

Let me start by saying there's not a chance in hades I'd return to Terrace, mostly because of the service. I'll begin with the good - some of the food. The Mac & Cheese appetizer was good (although my gf didn't care for it - she wanted something sharper), the shrimp cocktail was fresh, and the pico de gallo cocktail sauce was very tasty - a nice little hint of horseradish. The Trout had a nice flavor, was perfectly cooked, and I enjoyed the root vegetables it was served with. The scallops were ok - could have used a better sear on the outside, but they were good - without the pesto. The pesto it was served with was just bizarre-one of the more odd choices I've encountered. Didn't work with the scallops at all. And the cheese plate was probably the worst I've ever had at a restaurant - don't bother with it. The drinks were very good. My gf had a peach martini and I had the Terrace Margarita - both were good. Unfortunately, the service was awful. As in, comicly bad. Incredibly inattentive for a slow restaurant (less than 1/2 full) - our server only had 1 other table most of the time we were there. My gf asked for a drink menu before we ordered the cheese plate (for "dessert"). Took about 10 minutes to get the menu (at which point, he took our cheese plate order), then another 10 minutes before he came back to take her drink order, and then another 10-15 minutes to get the drink. We had been done with the cheese plate for a while before her drink arrived. Thankfully, the friends we were meeting after dinner were running late because our dinner took about an hour longer than we expected. Additionally, parking is kind of a pain - I tried to valet, but the valet was nowhere to be found (a sign said the valet would return shortly) and there was no place to sit and wait for him without blocking traffic, so we parked at a parking deck down the road. They also have "European seating," so even though the restaurant was less than 1/2 full, we had another couple stting about 2 feet from us. I despise this, and generally avoid restaurants that seat like this. read more

The food was full of flavor but it is expensive in relation to the portion size of the dishes. I started with an Arnold Palmer which was light, refreshing and tasty. I had the grilled fish tacos for my entree. The tacos were wonderful and had a perfect amount of flavor, crispness and a nice presentation. They do not come with any sides and that was disappointing considering the price. I finished with key lime pie which again had a colorful presentation. The flavor was light and tangy. So very disappointing. We were so looking forward to our dinner there. The service was so slow ( over an hour) we finally asked for to go boxes to take our meals with us. It seems like a lovely place to dine. But DO NOT go if you need to be anywhere on time Our waiter was very apologetic; but the manager was not. He defended the kitchen saying it was a busy time of night (6:00 pm) Several tables were empty & while it's true many ordered at the same time; STILL at dinner hour the kitchen should be prepared.Especially when we were only ordering salads! Nice place to sit outside on the balcony right on Peachtree. Everyone was outside last night. Nice wine list with great choices for both by the glass & bottle. The apps were great. Try the mushroom pate w/blueberry jelly & Holman & Finch bread. Excellent. The Heirloom tomato caprese was nice too. We skipped soup/salad & went to entrees. I had the Ga trout topped with crabmeat, tomatoes & potatoes and corn puree on side. Very nice, mild...more corn puree would have been nice. My husband had the rib eye & he enjoyed it. Served with greens & steak sauce. The service was friendly & prompt. The dessert list didn't tempt us. Only complaint, was a couple lit cigarettes @ the end of their meal & during & that turned me off. All farm to table food & farms listed on menu. Nice change of pace. We visited Terrace before a show at the Civic Center - and didn't even get to eat our dinner. Yep. Be aware that you need at least 2 full hours to eat at Terrace - they're sloooooooow. I ordered the seasonal sangria, but there wasn't much seasonal about it - no fruit inside, just a mixed red wine drink. Not impressed. The servers were nice, but slow, and initially forgot to bring us bread. The bread isn't really bread - it's a couple of crispy things. I prefer soft baked bread any day, so that wasn't impressive either. The fried green tomatoes were bland and also - not impressive! We ended up (after an hour and 15 minutes since we arrived) telling them to box our entrees because we had to leave. That took another 10 minutes - (?!) and we were late to our show. Parking is valet only, and if you're going to Terrace it's $5. MOST Atlanta restaurants are FREE valet if you eat there, so that's a bummer. I do appreciate Terrace tries to buy locally and shows their farms/suppliers on the menu, but it was otherwise overpriced for what you get. I paid $30 for a fish dish that was very small - literally 4 fingerling potatoes, a piece of fish, and some shaved garnish veggies. Not cool. read more

I went here on a Sunday afternoon with my parents and I was surprised that it was pretty empty. Nevertheless, the interior decoration was still beautiful and it was relaxing. Our waiter was friendly, answered our questions and gave us recommendations on which dishes to try. My father ordered the potato hash dish. I took a few pieces from his place It tasted really delicious. My mom ordered the Belgian waffles with a side ham and eggs. The waffle was ok but a little dry for my taste. I ordered the vegetable Benedict with a side of breakfast potatoes. It was really tasty. The portion was too big for me but I ate all of it anyway. It was that good. Overall, I would say that I'm a fan of Terrace and I would definitely visit this place again. read more

This was a fantastic experience all around. We are very health conscious eaters, and we found this place while staying downtown for a convention, as it boasted a "farm to table" concept, which I'm always interested in. Our server, Beth, was delightful, attentive, and welcoming. She allowed us to take our time, as we were interested in just enjoying the outdoor dining experience on a gorgeous Atlanta summer evening. I noticed some reviews here about "slow service". Yes, our meal was 90 minutes start to finish, but that's what I wanted. I thought the pace was perfect, but I can understand if you are looking for quick service, this place might not be for you. I started with the seasonal salad. Some amazing Georgia peaches complimented the mixed greens and incredibly fresh tomatoes. I then ordered the catch of the day which was salmon. It was cooked to perfection, seasoned beautifully, and was accompanied by a delicious asparagus risotto and field greens. I also recommend trying the 3 sides for $12. The sweet potato mash, and the broccoli were especially tasty. No dessert on this trip, but I'm sure they'd be just as awesome. As New Yorkers, we have very high standards for restaurants, and Terrace in Atlanta was a fantastic place to visit. read more

For staying in the hotel, you get a $15 voucher for the restaurant, where they have one of the best farm-to-table menus I have ever seen. I recognized several local farms from my Tallahassee farm tour (Sweet Grass Dairy - woo!). The ingredients were clearly fresh, and it really makes a difference. I highly recommend the fried egg sandwich, or the sweet potato gnocchi. There is plenty of variety on the menu (including for vegetarians and vegans), and the wine list is expansive and delicious. I stayed at the hotel for two and a half days and ate nearly every meal at the restaurant. I'm vegetarian and was able to have something different every time. The "daily specials" actually changed every day as well. Also, I actually had great service, but then again, I've noticed that if you're polite to servers, they typically treat you pretty well. It's not a rushing through your food place though, so maybe if you're in a big hurry I could see it being a problem - but it's clearly a nice sit-down place. read more

I returned to the Terrace this past week because the food I had here a year ago (on the upstairs balcony) was so good. The service at that time was very slow and the server mixed up our bill (2 of the 3 of us were on one bill) and never did get it right. This time, I was very disappointed that the balcony terrace was no longer available for general dining and the only breakfast available was the buffet. We decided to stay, anyway, and the service was the same! Very slow - we had to ask to have our table cleaned off, and had to wait for silverware after we got our food. The made-to-order omelet was good, but it was an additional charge. This one comes off my list when I'm back in Atlanta. read more

I like to support farm-to-table restaurants and since we were staying in the Ellis it made sense to check the Terrace out for dinner. We started off the sweet potato fries that were soggy. Then I get the garden salad and stuff eggplant which were both delicious! It was so good I even had the salad again for lunch the next day before heading to the airport. I'll lay down the good first. Food is fantastic. Sitting on the terrace offers a unique urban dining experience which is rare for Atlanta. Supporting the local organic farms, the tasty farm-to-table dishes are the backbone of this restaurant. I've really given this place a chance. Thrice. On the third visit, I had reservations, but still took us awhile to get seated in a nearly empty restaurant. Waiter was lethargic and inattentive throughout the meal. Our appetizer arrived after 10 minutes, entrees took just over 45 minutes. Waiter described it as delays in the kitchen...there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant eating! Though the food was very good, I am sick of the management. Long waits between courses. An overall "green" waitstaff lacking knowledge of menu items, wine, etc. To top it off, after arriving ontime and honoring our reservation, the maitre'd canceled our OpenTable reservation after we had left. A simple mistake, but shows how disorganized and inefficient this place is. read more

Farm-to-table and recently featured in a Groupon that I failed to buy. The hotel is contemporary and that carries right over to the architectural coffee mugs. We met local Atlanta friends here for a Saturday morning breakfast before heading to the Aquarium. Service was great, food was perfectly fresh and unadorned. The winning order at our table was the breakfast sandwich on a fascinating brioche bun. But do not miss out on the exquisitely and artfully poached eggs. Seriously, don't miss them. This place is unassuming and wonderfully so. If you like yogurt, locally made Atlanta Fresh is great. read more

We came on a Thursday night around 7PM, and sat outdoors on the terrace. The restaurant is very clean and modern. The atmosphere is great, and the temperature indoors is perfect. I've read complaints about slow service, but our server was attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable. Our food and drinks came out quickly. I think it is overpriced, but that must have something to do with their farm-to-table philosophy. I ordered almond dusted trout. And that's all it was: an entire trout, no sides. However, it did taste excellent. My fiance ordered the duck leg, and he was very satisfied (this dish had sides, but not a lot... just a few veggies). Overall, the food tastes excellent. My only complaint to them is add more sides. I don't want to choke down a whole fish, and I like variety on my plate. My entree could have been split into 2-4 portions, if it also had sides. The terrace has a good and bad side. It is relaxing in the evening, and I enjoyed the view down Peachtree St. However, if an 18-wheeler, an ambulance, or a raving crazy guy meanders by, it can damper the romantic experience. Glad to see that the 'from farm to table/fork' has reached the downtown Atlanta area....we had the fried green tomatoes with a light horseradish creamy sauce, the roasted beet salad with arugula, goat cheese, fennel and a vinaigrette dressing and the pappardelle pasta with cream, roasted squash, pumpkin seeds and goat cheese which were to die for...recommend this place to anyone, a bit pricey and smaller portions, but considering the quality of the food and that for the most part you are eating organic, it is well worth it....oh and the bread was delicious....service was good too.... read more

As some have mentioned, Terrace (the restaurant at the Ellis Hotel) has recently undergone some renovations and new management. They now only offer an upstairs dining experience for events, and a much smaller downstairs area is available to general patrons. I work at a nearby company (within walking distance), and we have favored Terrace in the past for corporate events (probably around 5 events). Additionally, we have frequented Terrace with small and large groups (both in and out-of-towners) for their exceptional food and dining experience that favors local ingredients and Southern fare, bringing them business that totals in the $10,000+ range. After our most recent experience, WE WILL NOT BE BACK. In short, upon arrival for a company event, we were informed that our usual set up is no longer available (even though we had made arrangements beforehand and were told they would be happy to accommodate us). We troubleshooted, ordered some appetizers and drinks and sat at the bar (with the general public co-mingling in our intended-to-be private affair). When we were served the appetizers, WE (and our out of town investors) WERE SERVED DIRTY DISHES. These dirty dishes had salad dressing, food crumbs and had clearly been eaten on and never washed before being reserved. Management offered roughly $10 off (10% off the food only) of our over $300+ tab for the debacle. Although food and drinks were still very good (Tim in particular is an exceptional bartender who knows how to take good care of folks), I have never been more disappointed in serving staff and management. Unfortunately due to their new management, Terrace will no longer be the company favorite. They clearly value the short-term bottom line more than a long-standing relationship with a formerly loyal customer and company. read more

Stayed at the hotel, the hottel was good. Went down for breakfast one moring and realized we made a mistake. It tookn 30 minutes to get a cup of coffee eventhough the coffee was free in the lobby. She did not take our order until she gave us coffee. There was only 4 tables full in the entire dinning room. We finally got our omelletes and asked for some hot sauce, by the time we got the hot sauce we had eaten our food. She asked us if we wanted refills on our coffee which had been empty forever, and we said no because it would have taken another 30 to 40 minutes to get our coffee. She did not seem to have a lot of help but they were incrediably slow. I can"t imagine if it was busy. The food was actually good but the service was terrible read more

A big no for us. So overpriced and mediocre. This restaurant is a mess. Waited a couple of minutes for no one to even try to seat us, had to find someone to get the one bartender working, all the menus had different prices, so of course they are charging the higher prices. Once we actually had the food, it was only okay. Small portions, especially for what you pay. Definitely not worth it at all. The wings did not have nearly enough sauce and they were soggy! The Cobb salad was missing key ingredients and the tiny avocado that they did provide was hard and not good. One bright side was that the bartender was kind of nice and tried to help us out. But definitely not coming back nor recommending. read more

Food is delicious but don't go there when you're hungry because they have VERY small portions. We had the fish tacos and pappardelle pasta. The restaurant itself is very nice but I didn't get the best service. I was greeted immediately at the door and seated in the same manner. When the gentleman that sat me came back to take my order I assumed that the actual server must had been busy, which was fine. I'd order the Cobb salad minus the bacon being a vegetarian and it came within 10 min and was delicious. Now all this time the only person that came to the table was the same on I presume to be the manager. Half way through the meal a young lady finally came and ask me how was everything I stated fine and continued my meal. When I finished my meal the same young lady gathered my plate as well this is when I realized that she must be the server I had been waiting on but she never stated her name or even apologized that she wasn't able to get to me sooner. I told the server that we were on a tight schedule, and she and the cooking staff accommodated our needs perfectly -- we were in and out right on time. Excellent service, excellent food. My friend and I popped into Terrrace last week for lunch. We both work in downtown, and there are so few options with a good atmosphere. We randomly went with Terrace - neither of us had been in at least a year. They moved the restaurant from upstairs to downstairs, which was kind of bummer because of the awesome dining terrace that was upstairs, but not to worry, they do have a large patio off of the downstairs dining space as well. It was still freezing last week, so we ate inside in the small dining room. Our server was very nice, extremely knowledgeable of the menu. My friend ordered the trout, and I had the burger with a salad. Our food came out quickly, and it was SO DELICIOUS. I have no clue why I don't come here more often. My burger was HUGE, perfectly seasoned and cooked to my request, and my friend raved about her dish. I would definitely rank this restaurant higher than any dining experience I've had across the street at the Ritz. Definitely a must-visit if you're staying downtown or lunching with friends. I can't speak to the dinner service as I've only visited for lunch. read more

This place is nice. Very quiet, clean... we came in for lunch on a Monday and sat on the patio which is right next to the MARTA (train) station and quickly moved inside due to the "rough" crowd hanging out right outside the patio, cursing loudly on their phones and blowing cigarette smoke our way. I recommend sitting inside! Very nice decor, comfy and contemporary. The bartender was very friendly, he remembered my SO from years ago, but our server was just ok. We felt like we were bothering him by being there. Before we were even done he dropped the check, then took 20 minutes to come back to settle up. However... they serve THE. BEST. MAC AND CHEESE. IN. THE. WORLD. I consider myself to be somewhat of a comfort food connoisseur, and this dish blew me away. Cooked perfectly, crunchy on top and they used gouda which was delightful and unique. The chocolate tart with peanut butter whipped cream was outstanding as well. I had the Red Kiss martini which was an invention of the bartender as he told me. Very good! I'd like to try some more items on their menu, it looks like they have a lot of locally grown items. Worth a stop by if you're already in the area, but sit at the bar for better service. read more
