    Octopus appetizer
    Darrin R.

Table for 2 for dinner As we approached the entrance, close to Peachtree Street, we walked past a small outside patio area. Nobody was sitting out there yet and I didn't notice much protection from direct sunlight. We entered the door and approached the host podium. While waiting a few minutes I noticed there was a lower level dining room and stairs leading to a second level. The hostess arrived and I informed her we had a reservation. I initially asked about upstairs seating, figuring there would be some nice city views up there. She informed me if I wanted to sit upstairs, the menu would be a little bit different. I eventually decided we would stick with the main lower level dining room. She then asked if we wanted a hightop or standard table. Wifey chose the standard table. We were quickly led to a table not too far from the entrance and provided menus. The dining room was packed and I immediately noticed the eclectic design and art work on display. Our server Aleena quickly came by to check on us and asked if we had any questions about the menu or even the artwork. She went to get us some water while we continued to review the menu. They have a full bar menu, but only about 7 beer options. When she returned we were ready with our order. Wifey ordered a Sweetwater 420 and I ordered a Creature Comforts Tropicalia. I added the Octopus as an appetizer and we were ready with our main entree choices. Wifey ordered the Shrimp and Grits and I ordered the Crab & Calabrian Chili Bigoli. I had a couple of questions for Aleena. I asked how the crab was prepared and how spicy it was. She informed me that lump crab meat was added to the pasta and that she did not remember anyone saying the spice level was overpowering. With that information, I decided to stick with my choice. Aleena was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Our beers came out super fast and they also brought over a complementary "amuse bouche". It was a sliced cucumber dish with sesame seeds. It was OK, a little bland, but light and refreshing. A good start to the meal. The Octopus appetizer came out soon after and I started digging in. This was only the 2nd time I've had Octopus. TBH it was not as good as I remembered. I'm big on texture and it tasted rubbery and was not really working for me. That said, the ramesco sauce and lentils were a good compliment and did help a little. We were waiting and waiting, it started to push the limits of a reasonable wait time. I also overheard another table mention that they had been waiting a while for their food as well. It definitely took over 20 min for our entrees to arrive. One other observation, I thought they would have refreshed the silverware after we finished the appetizer and amuse bouche, but we had to reuse them. I know it is a nitpick and not an automatic thing but if they are pushing that they are a high end restaurant, maybe that is something they should look into. When the food arrived, it looked like something straight out of a magazine. We started digging in and everything was delicious. When the server mentioned the lump crab in my dish, I was expecting larger chunks of meat. Instead, there were tiny pieces scattered throughout the pasta. Overall, the meal was flavorful and the heat level was just right. Wifey loved her shrimp and grits and had a little left to take home. Aleena was nice but got busy, working multiple tables, when we were ready to close out the bill. I flagged her down and I asked for a dessert menu. I looked it over quickly but really didn't see anything that knocked me out. After wrapping up the check we headed up to the second floor. As we entered, we immediately noticed the large bar and outside balcony lounge area. We ordered a couple of beers from the bar and headed outside. Just like I expected, the views of Midtown were great. We hung around sipping on our beers, enjoying the atmosphere and view. Overall, we enjoyed our visit to 5Church. There was much more good than bad, the main highlights were definitely the food and the rooftop experience. However, food service was a little slow and there could have been a little more attention to the small details if they want to advertise themselves as a fine dining destination.

5Church was such a cool place! The art and overall vibes were awesome! We had a large group of a total of 12ish people and we were sat easily. A reservation did help too! The food was delicious and there were so many good options. Lots of good appetizers and drink options!

Service and ambiance were both a 10/10! Our waiter Kamau was so pleasant. Food and drinks came out quickly. The entire staff was so accommodating & always making sure we had what we needed. My party went for happy hour and they have a good social hour from 3-7. Afterwards we went to the rooftop, which was really fun with great midtown views. I would definitely be back in the spring/summer. I ordered the chicken sausage and brussel flatbread, and it was just ok. Wouldn't order it again. However, food is usually pretty good at 5Church. Still 5/5 experience.

    $1 Oysters - Social Hour

Came in to enjoy their Happy Hour after work and it was a bumpy ride, not going to lie! Parking: Local parking decks not a far walk away! They do validate parking which is nice, just make sure you bring your ticket with you inside of the restaurant so the hostess can validate on your way out. (FYI - validation only lasts 15 mins after they scan, so if you want to walk around the area afterwards, make it quick.) The Good: The service was great! Our bartender was attentive, fast, knowledgeable about the menu, and understanding of any feedback we had about the food which was nice. The $1 oysters (the real reason we came to Happy Hour) were fresh, sizable, and tasty! Please note that they do already come with hot sauce on them, so if that's not your style maybe ask for it on the side instead. The lamb sliders were delicious! The bread was soft and the flavor of the pickled onions was yummy, would recommend salting the patty a bit more heavily though. If I ordered off their full menu, I'd definitely get the burger! The Questionable: For drinks we had the Plumette which essentially tasted like a Shirley temple. Flavor was good if you like sweet drinks, but I may suggest opting in for something a little stronger if you stop in. The Bad: The truffle fries everyone raved about came our burnt the first time with limited Parmesan cheese. They were kind enough to remake them, but we could not escape the taste of the burnt grease they were cooked in so we ended up sending them back. They were also served without the bernaise sauce advertised on the menu. That was a common theme during our visit as we had to also send back the lamb sliders for not having any of the yummy cheese fondue advertised on the menu. We'd like our food with all of the ingredients! Overall, it was a nice visit. Inside was quiet as not too many people had fought through the rush hour traffic yet and the aesthetic was nice and clean. I would likely give them a try again for dinner or Happy Hour!

The food and ambiance at this restaurant are amazing! I had the pleasure of having brunch there, and it was so good and such a good value because there were so many options! From breakfast food to soul food, and to top it off, desserts! This place has hands down the best fried chicken I have ever had! The service was amazing, and everyone from the wait staff to the bartenders was amazing! Run, don't walk, to this place!!

If you're looking for a dining experience that perfectly captures the high-energy, art-forward soul of Atlanta, 5Church Midtown is the definitive choice. Located right in the heart of Colony Square, it manages to be both a sophisticated powerhouse for dinner and a vibrant, "see-and-be-seen" destination for brunch. The service is excellent.

One of my friends recommended this place to me so I decided to check it out. I went in yesterday and sat at the bar. I don't believe the young lady told me her name, but her service was great. The drinks were on point and she gave solid recommendations. I tried two different cocktails--the Virtue, which is like a tequila lemon drop, and Scent of a Woman, which is vodka based. Both were balanced really well and tasted amazing. I ordered the sushi tots as an appetizer and they were excellent. The crispy sushi rice was cooked to perfection. For dinner I had the lamb burger cooked medium with truffle fries. It was juicy, flavorful, and honestly one of the best burgers I've had. The decor in this place is stunning. I would definitely book a birthday event or private party here. I believe they also have a rooftop which I'll have to check out next time. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Atlanta.

Really great decor and ambience! Very eclectic and fealty liked the vibe. Was meeting an old friend from Chicago here and really enjoyed it. The food was good, but pasta needed salt. Soy glaze Pork belly was really tasty and also tried the strawberry creme brûlée that was nothing special. I really wanted to love it but sadly I cannot. Good drink smoke in the water.

I LOVE 5church!!! The service, 10/10. The food, 11/10. And the ambiance, 12/10. I couldn't recommend it more. My girlfriends and I met up for happy hour after work and enjoyed their $9 drink specials and yummy bites - who can say no to that? Cynnaea and Kamau were both so pleasant and really made our experience so great. Honestly, every employee we interacted with went above and beyond to make sure our needs were met and that our experience was enjoyable. After dinner, we continued the night on the rooftop where upbeat music is played in the background at an appropriate level, which I really appreciate, because you can continue conversing with friends. (I really want to highlight how tasty the espresso martini is as well, I ordered mine the traditional way with vodka and baileys and have to say this might be one of the best I've had in the city, my friend ordered hers with Tequilla and baileys and it also tasted very good, so you can't go wrong with either). Definitely coming back and bringing more friends.

    Fuel for the night.

Went to 5Church for a birthday celebration, and it turned out to be a great spot. Parking is pretty limited, so plan ahead and bring some cash for valet -- they do a solid job and make it easy. The atmosphere was definitely grown and sexy, perfect for a night out. The Jack and Cokes and extra-dirty martinis were flowing all night. The fried sushi and crab cakes were both flavorful and worth ordering. Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience, and I'd definitely come back.

Make reservations for 9 PM arrived at 8:45 and was seated immediately. The restaurant very clean, however the restrooms need a little updating, medium lighting very friendly staff and we used the valet parking which they discount from $35 to six dollars ordered a bottle of champagne which was not too expensive and appetizers who came out fresh and hot. Then we ordered entrées and one of the entrées we wanted to try was a duck which the chef is very passionate about. While making the dish they put onions on it, which I can't have and the chef came out apologize pull the chair up to the table and told me what was gonna happen next. Very, very very professional he needs to be on MasterChef or something. When they brought out the dishes, my maid and I ordered different things so we can try each other's food and I was not disappointed. 10 out of 10 highly recommend

I was staying at hotel around the corner and came here for dinner with my brother. We were able to be seated right away. I started off with the octopus which was fantastic. There were two tentacles so we were able to share. For my main, I got the orecchiette bolognese. It was very rich and the sauce had a nice sweetness to it. There was plenty of pasta and I was pretty full after eating it. That being said, when tiramisu is on the menu, I order tiramisu. 5Church's tiramisu was delicious and I loved every bite. I would highly recommend everyone stop here for dinner when in Midtown.

The entrance had a coat check and was nicely decorated with wreaths and Christmas nutcrackers. There was a small study in front with an absolutely gorgeous Christmas tree. The main doors led to a bar area with lots of standing and seating room. The bar connected to various dining rooms/spaces (I counted five). Just about every room had terrific views of the city. There was also a covered patio with tables, seating, heat lamps, and illuminated snowflake decor for the holiday season. The patio is the best place to take in the views. Photo: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-peachtree-club-atlanta?select=C8BsutGj3QGmsegeybIrjA. The patio is located on the north side of the building, so the main view faces north up Peachtree Street towards the PwC tower. One criticism I have about the patio is the coverage wasn't very good. Our party took place on a cold, wet Saturday night (6pm to 10pm) and drops of water were still falling onto us from above. Another small critique I have is there were only two heat lamps for the entire patio and one of them wasn't working (it may have run out of gas). A nice touch I liked was the basket of shawls placed by the patio door in case anyone needed a wrap for warmth. Catering was not provided by a third party, but by the club itself. There were four dinner stations set up inside. Two were manned. I liked how the stations were spread out to avoid crowding issues. I believe the guest list was about 120-130. The bar got pretty crowded during cocktail hour, but spacing was more comfortable once dinner was served. Seating was a bit tight at dinner. The tables were white tablecloth with candles and centerpieces. Here were the stations and menu items: Asian Station - Vegetable fried rice - Chicken sate (satay) with peanut dipping sauce - Thai vegetable noodle bowl - Pork pot stickers with dipping sauce - Fried wontons - Edamame with sea salt Rudolph Riviera (staffed by chef/server) - Crispy garlic bread - Penne pasta with chicken in a garlic cream sauce Under the Christmas Tree (staffed by chef/server) - Bacon-wrapped turkey tenderloin over butternut squash-scented risotto - Sage-crusted pork loin over celery-whipped potatoes - Cranberry chutney Dessert Station - Various cake and brownie bites, tarts, cream puffs, and more In general, I thought the food was OK. The pot stickers and penne pasta were my favorite items. The penne pasta was served out of a cheese wheel for presentation purposes. The noodles at the Asian Station looked more like a pasta dish than a Thai dish. Not really authentic. The noodles were prepared with a coconut sauce. The turkey and pork station was manned by a chef from Italian restaurant Campagnolo, which is located just a couple blocks east of the club. He works as a chef for both Campagnolo and The Peachtree Club. Admittedly, I do think the food I've had from local caterers like Affairs to Remember and Bold American Events has been better. There was an open bar with friendly bartenders. After dinner, there were no servers serving coffee nor was there a coffee station. Instead, coffee was served at the bar, which I thought was interesting (and uncommon, in my experience). In general, I thought all of the staff did a fantastic job, from the managers to the coat check lady. We brought in Cobalt Strings (https://www.yelp.com/biz/cobalt-strings-atlanta) to perform live holiday music. We had this same trio perform at our holiday party last year at the Atlanta History Center. They are that good. The Peachtree Club opened in 1989.

So, everyone knows I work for SCAD-Atlanta, but I'm also a huge fan of architecture, design,…read moresustainability and preservation. So, when I started working for SCAD and learned they were in the process of restoring and preserving the old Mansion Restaurant at Ponce & Piedmont, I was really excited. If you haven't had a chance to see the space since its transformation, please feel free to email me and I'd be happy to set up a free tour. lmoody@scad.edu. Truly the restoration of this historic landmark is a gift to our community. This Queen Anne Victorian house was built in 1883 by the Peters family--one of the founding families of our city. Know Peters street in Castleberry? Yep that's the same folks. They originally owned 400 acres from Briarcliff and Ponce all the way beyond where GA Tech now stands. In fact, the family donated the land that the campus was original built upon. They also donated the land for Morris Brown and the first baseball field for the Atlantans. The home is filled with beautiful detail. This is no cookie cutter McMansion. Every room is filled with unique features. The college will use the space for its Professional Writing program and will bring scholars, authors and journalists to speak and give workshops--many that will be open to the public. Visit the website often to see the free events coming up. In the Spring expect outdoor concerts in the lovely gardens. The home will be available for rentals for corporate meetings and the like.

Once I saw the renovation in progress I decided that I need to know more. It took some time but eventually I decided I had to see the place. I have been doing some Friday outings as mini-tweet-ups and this seemed perfect. The folks at SCAD were very gracious and responsive and I easily set a tour for Fri Dec 11, 2009. The result was an outstanding experience and we were knocked out with the work that's been done. This tour can be seen in video on my site at http://www.pro1pr.com/ivy-hall-atl-mini-tweetup I highly recommend you see for yourself. Contact them and see when the next public event will be held and get going. If you're looking to become a designer then I'd say you are in business!

Virtue Rooftop is a whole mood on a Tuesday. I touched down for the "Jazz on the Rooftop" session,…read moreand the live saxophonist was definitely the highlight--sliding through covers and originals with the kind of ease that makes a date night feel effortless. The spot is huge with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, so you aren't cramped while trying to catch a vibe. The 1000 Masks cocktail was smooth and balanced, avoiding the sugar-trap I expected from the blueberry syrup. We started with the Yuca Parmesan Truffle Fries--solid crunch and the truffle wasn't aggressive--and the Togarashi Tempura Veggies, which were light and crispy. I went with the 5Church Lamb Burger Sliders for the main; the gorgonzola fondue and red onion marmalade combo was a heavy hitter, though the lemon-dressed arugula kept it grounded. The food was a solid, reliable choice--nothing that'll change your life, but definitely tasty enough to keep you satisfied while the music does its thing. If you want a laid-back, intentional atmosphere without the extra noise, this is the move.

Beautiful views, but the service and the food left much to be desired…read more I ordered chicken skewers, 2 mocktails, artichoke dip, and yucca fries. The chicken skewers took forever to come out. You only get two of them, and they are served over a bed of mixed greens. They lacked seasoning and flavor. The artichoke dip was extremely oily and had a very strange texture--it was thick and spreadable. The pita bread tasted old and stale. asked for a fork and the waitress forgot. When she brought my fries, she realized that she never brought the fork, and still didn't bring it. I ordered yucca fries, but she brought regular fries. The mocktails were served in these foggy old cups. Even the customer next to me commented on her own cup and said it looked like someone had drank from it. They add 20% gratuity to ALL bills--I was by myself and it was still added. 5 Church is pretty good, but this place was not at all. I paid 65 dollars for my meal, which was absolutely not worth it, given the quality and service of my experience. Looks good for IG but I won't be coming back to this rooftop.
