Sushi tots - a great appetizer Killer burger - nice entree but it was messy. The aioli made the burger fall apart requiring me to cut it in half. The bun held up very very well!! The burger was ordered and cooked medium. The fries were hot and crispy outside and soft inside. Shrimp and grits - I didn't taste but my guest enjoyed the dish. They said they'd order the dish again. Shore leave - a great cocktail. A great pour that was well balanced. I only wished for a bit more foam. My guest just moved here and said they'd add 5 Church to their lost of "go-tos" based off that first experience. The server was awesome (shame on me for forgetting his name). Parking is validated for 1.5hrs during lunch and 3hrs for dinner. read more

Table for 2 for dinner As we approached the entrance, close to Peachtree Street, we walked past a small outside patio area. Nobody was sitting out there yet and I didn't notice much protection from direct sunlight. We entered the door and approached the host podium. While waiting a few minutes I noticed there was a lower level dining room and stairs leading to a second level. The hostess arrived and I informed her we had a reservation. I initially asked about upstairs seating, figuring there would be some nice city views up there. She informed me if I wanted to sit upstairs, the menu would be a little bit different. I eventually decided we would stick with the main lower level dining room. She then asked if we wanted a hightop or standard table. Wifey chose the standard table. We were quickly led to a table not too far from the entrance and provided menus. The dining room was packed and I immediately noticed the eclectic design and art work on display. Our server Aleena quickly came by to check on us and asked if we had any questions about the menu or even the artwork. She went to get us some water while we continued to review the menu. They have a full bar menu, but only about 7 beer options. When she returned we were ready with our order. Wifey ordered a Sweetwater 420 and I ordered a Creature Comforts Tropicalia. I added the Octopus as an appetizer and we were ready with our main entree choices. Wifey ordered the Shrimp and Grits and I ordered the Crab & Calabrian Chili Bigoli. I had a couple of questions for Aleena. I asked how the crab was prepared and how spicy it was. She informed me that lump crab meat was added to the pasta and that she did not remember anyone saying the spice level was overpowering. With that information, I decided to stick with my choice. Aleena was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Our beers came out super fast and they also brought over a complementary "amuse bouche". It was a sliced cucumber dish with sesame seeds. It was OK, a little bland, but light and refreshing. A good start to the meal. The Octopus appetizer came out soon after and I started digging in. This was only the 2nd time I've had Octopus. TBH it was not as good as I remembered. I'm big on texture and it tasted rubbery and was not really working for me. That said, the ramesco sauce and lentils were a good compliment and did help a little. We were waiting and waiting, it started to push the limits of a reasonable wait time. I also overheard another table mention that they had been waiting a while for their food as well. It definitely took over 20 min for our entrees to arrive. One other observation, I thought they would have refreshed the silverware after we finished the appetizer and amuse bouche, but we had to reuse them. I know it is a nitpick and not an automatic thing but if they are pushing that they are a high end restaurant, maybe that is something they should look into. When the food arrived, it looked like something straight out of a magazine. We started digging in and everything was delicious. When the server mentioned the lump crab in my dish, I was expecting larger chunks of meat. Instead, there were tiny pieces scattered throughout the pasta. Overall, the meal was flavorful and the heat level was just right. Wifey loved her shrimp and grits and had a little left to take home. Aleena was nice but got busy, working multiple tables, when we were ready to close out the bill. I flagged her down and I asked for a dessert menu. I looked it over quickly but really didn't see anything that knocked me out. After wrapping up the check we headed up to the second floor. As we entered, we immediately noticed the large bar and outside balcony lounge area. We ordered a couple of beers from the bar and headed outside. Just like I expected, the views of Midtown were great. We hung around sipping on our beers, enjoying the atmosphere and view. Overall, we enjoyed our visit to 5Church. There was much more good than bad, the main highlights were definitely the food and the rooftop experience. However, food service was a little slow and there could have been a little more attention to the small details if they want to advertise themselves as a fine dining destination. read more

I met a friend on the rooftop so that we could have cocktails, food, and listen to jazz. I had a glass of wine and ordered a spinach dip. When the food arrived it was barely warm. We had a problem with the server being consistent with checking in on us. When she finally came by I explained to her that the food was cold and if she could get the kitchen to resolve it. She took the food away and came back to inform me that the kitchen told her that they would not remake it but they would reheat it. I had a huge issue with that. I am a chef and with the amount of cheese that was on the top, reheating would be a problem. No one seemed to be concerned with fact that the food should have never been served cold so I politely asked for the check and left. I was so disappointed! read more

Came in to enjoy their Happy Hour after work and it was a bumpy ride, not going to lie! Parking: Local parking decks not a far walk away! They do validate parking which is nice, just make sure you bring your ticket with you inside of the restaurant so the hostess can validate on your way out. (FYI - validation only lasts 15 mins after they scan, so if you want to walk around the area afterwards, make it quick.) The Good: The service was great! Our bartender was attentive, fast, knowledgeable about the menu, and understanding of any feedback we had about the food which was nice. The $1 oysters (the real reason we came to Happy Hour) were fresh, sizable, and tasty! Please note that they do already come with hot sauce on them, so if that's not your style maybe ask for it on the side instead. The lamb sliders were delicious! The bread was soft and the flavor of the pickled onions was yummy, would recommend salting the patty a bit more heavily though. If I ordered off their full menu, I'd definitely get the burger! The Questionable: For drinks we had the Plumette which essentially tasted like a Shirley temple. Flavor was good if you like sweet drinks, but I may suggest opting in for something a little stronger if you stop in. The Bad: The truffle fries everyone raved about came our burnt the first time with limited Parmesan cheese. They were kind enough to remake them, but we could not escape the taste of the burnt grease they were cooked in so we ended up sending them back. They were also served without the bernaise sauce advertised on the menu. That was a common theme during our visit as we had to also send back the lamb sliders for not having any of the yummy cheese fondue advertised on the menu. We'd like our food with all of the ingredients! Overall, it was a nice visit. One of my friends recommended this place to me so I decided to check it out. I went in yesterday and sat at the bar. I don't believe the young lady told me her name, but her service was great. The drinks were on point and she gave solid recommendations. I tried two different cocktails--the Virtue, which is like a tequila lemon drop, and Scent of a Woman, which is vodka based. Both were balanced really well and tasted amazing. I ordered the sushi tots as an appetizer and they were excellent. The crispy sushi rice was cooked to perfection. For dinner I had the lamb burger cooked medium with truffle fries. It was juicy, flavorful, and honestly one of the best burgers I've had. The decor in this place is stunning. I would definitely book a birthday event or private party here. I believe they also have a rooftop which I'll have to check out next time. Came here for a work dinner and it definitely appears to be a corporate venue. We had a group of 10 so got to try a little bit of everything and weren't blown away by any dish. The apps - sushi tots was interesting, octopus was over charred, crab dip was fine and tartare was good but small portion. My main was the crab and Calabrian bigoli and there wasn't a lot of flavor which is surprising given Calabrian chilis. The sides were ok. I think a good spot for a big group with a little bit of everything with typical drinks and service was fine but I wouldn't come back on my own. read more

My girlfriends and I met up for happy hour after work and enjoyed their $9 drink specials and yummy bites - who can say no to that? Cynnaea and Kamau were both so pleasant and really made our experience so great. Honestly, every employee we interacted with went above and beyond to make sure our needs were met and that our experience was enjoyable. After dinner, we continued the night on the rooftop where upbeat music is played in the background at an appropriate level, which I really appreciate, because you can continue conversing with friends. (I really want to highlight how tasty the espresso martini is as well, I ordered mine the traditional way with vodka and baileys and have to say this might be one of the best I've had in the city, my friend ordered hers with Tequilla and baileys and it also tasted very good, so you can't go wrong with either). Went to 5Church for a birthday celebration, and it turned out to be a great spot. Parking is pretty limited, so plan ahead and bring some cash for valet -- they do a solid job and make it easy. The atmosphere was definitely grown and sexy, perfect for a night out. The Jack and Cokes and extra-dirty martinis were flowing all night. The restaurant very clean, however the restrooms need a little updating, medium lighting very friendly staff and we used the valet parking which they discount from $35 to six dollars ordered a bottle of champagne which was not too expensive and appetizers who came out fresh and hot. Then we ordered entrées and one of the entrées we wanted to try was a duck which the chef is very passionate about. While making the dish they put onions on it, which I can't have and the chef came out apologize pull the chair up to the table and told me what was gonna happen next. Very, very very professional he needs to be on MasterChef or something. I was staying at hotel around the corner and came here for dinner with my brother. We were able to be seated right away. I started off with the octopus which was fantastic. There were two tentacles so we were able to share. For my main, I got the orecchiette bolognese. It was very rich and the sauce had a nice sweetness to it. There was plenty of pasta and I was pretty full after eating it. That being said, when tiramisu is on the menu, I order tiramisu. 5Church's tiramisu was delicious and I loved every bite. I'm very surprised. With so many reviews, being 3.9- I had good expectations. The "sushi tots" aka salmon crispy rice - great. Best thing we had. Steak tartar- very dry not a lot of flavor and the meat looked a bit oxidized. The meals..... the truffle "caccio Pepe" ummmmm it's an Italian sin. The only ingredient that is actually in caccio Pepe is the pepper and i couldn't even taste that. It's ok, but don't fall It Caccio Pepe just because there is pepper in it lol. My partner had the halibut, personally, it was so over cooked I had to chew like 18 times to swallow it. We ordered the garlic broccoli- that's probably the worst food I have ever ordered at a restaurant. It was UNEDITABLE! Soggy, over cooked boiled with a spoon full of JARRED garlic tossed on top. Probably top 5 worst food I've ever ordered at a restaurant. Could have come straight out of a can with jarred garlic. Atlanta has such a good food scene but it's this fell very short. read more

Wow. Just, wow. What a great meal here at 5church. Service, ambiance and food were all fantastic. Would come back again and again. This was dinner with my wife and her parents before a show at the Fox Theater down the street. Chose here because her parents like seafood and this was a very interesting menu with regard to seafood. However, upon arrival, I found myself going to the pomegranate duck. As I told the server and manager who checked on us, there are French restaurants in St Pete and Tampa that can learn a thing or two about duck. This was sooooooo good. If I had any complaint, it would be that they served little duck yet a lot of grains (it wasn't rice but I forget what it was) and little veggies. Would have been nice to have some more proteins but regardless, this was fantastic. My wife got their vegan mushroom dish and loved it (I tried it and it was excellent). My in laws both got the crab cake but I didn't try it. My mother in law also got the mussels. I'm not a big fan of tomato based sauces and seafood but this was a spicy vodka sauce and very good. Maybe not my favorite mussels I've had, but different and tasty. Finally, it was Wednesday and half off bottles of wine. Their red wine menu is heavy on the California wines but we found one Côtes du Rhône that, with the 1/2 off, was an excellent price and ended up being a great choice. I got to sit at the bar and I can say I enjoyed this brunch mostly because it wasn't loud with music and people like a typical Atlanta brunch spot. Very classy very demure lol I did however get the typical chicken and waffles due to the waffle being made with cornbread chile. Had to try it and it was worth trying but I wouldn't rave about it. 3.5 stars / Honestly not a great first impression but they definitely were apologetic and tried to make it up to us...Not sure about going back though. They validate parking which is awesome! 1. The hostess was clearly not happy that we didn't have a reservation. There were zero other guests seated and maybe three full tables by the time we left. A little friendliness goes a long way... 2. It took about 45 minutes to get three entrees. The waiter kept saying it's almost ready. How could it take that long when there were no other guests? 3. Two of the meals had onions in them, when onions were not listed on the menu, and one made her allergies clear before ordering. They quickly remade her dish, comped it, and were extremely apologetic but like what happened there? They even said afterwards that it's not usually made with onions. The other had already picked out the onions so she kept her dish (they comped it too! super nice!). They had the tilefish which they overall both enjoyed. 4. The crab cakes were AMAZING. So good. I know it's just a fancy restaurant thing to only give three pieces of asparagus but like fr I just want my veggies. The ube puree was so yummy, but there was so little vodka cream sauce that I barely tasted/noticed it. 5. The mac and cheese was super oily and separated. It tasted ok once you let the oil drip off. 6. They also comped us two desserts - the basil cake and the creme brulee. I love basil but it was like assaultingly basily. That's personal preference I suppose because one of my friends really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the creme brulee which is not something I'd ever choose myself, but my friend who loves creme brulee did not enjoy it. 7. 5 Church could really improve on the time spent in making the food. It took almost an hour: It took 32mins to get our drinks and it's a Thursday and there's hardly anyone here. The food was ok. It's a friend's birthday and we are a party of 8. We did not have a good time there was just one issue after the other. Burger - Dry French fries - cold and burnt Mashed potatoes- Nice Prime Ribeye - Nice Mushrooms - Nice Broccoli - Nice However, do you see how when the food comes out almost an hour late it just messes up the whole vibe. Some friends flew into Atlanta to attend our alma mater (California) play Auburn. We stayed in midtown, right around the corner from 5 Church. This was our last day together brunch spot, and it didn't disappoint. When I first walked in, I noticed writing all over the walks and the ceiling. These are quotes from The Art of War. I believe that's what the waiter told us. Luckily, we got in before the crowd, so the noise was next to nothing. We all thought the food was delicious, although the menu was a bit lacking for me. I had to order various a la carte dishes to simply have bacon, eggs, and grits. I'm a simple guy, so the "extras" don't impress me. Just give me the basic breakfast. But, it was good. And, I went back the next day, Monday, before heading to the airport. They had a different menu, but the waiter was kind enough to let me user a la carte again. I had the same thing. I told ya ..... I'm a basic guy. Lol The rooftop bar is also nice. It overlooks a sprawling and vibrant intersection. We were there during the day, so the fire pits weren't on. I've been coming to this location for years. Even had a bday party here once. This location doesn't do it for me anymore. The food is always lacking/lackluster. The new location in Buckhead is much better for whatever reason. The service seems to be better in Buckhead as well. Since they are getting 20% gratuity off the top, I feel like the Service suffers because of that. I will say the other location, even though they do the same at least they don't make you feel as such. Met friends for Sunday brunch. We should have gone to Buckhead. I like that aesthetic and the sunroom area lot more there and for whatever reason, even though they offer the same food theirs tastes a little bit better. They do sell my favorite champagne here which is good to know. $225 per bottle, no glasses offered. That was disappointing. Took all these people to get me a price. Our dinner started pleasantly enough. However, after ordering drinks, everything went sour. While our waiter was polite, the manager, Ahmed Zayed, was not. We waited well over 45. He offered champagne or dessert while we waited, but he strangely insisted that we had to "start eating it in the restaurant" before he would pack it up.  Another table of four that arrived long after us received its entire meal (including appetizers). He was dismissive when we asked if he could "comp" our side dishes, claiming he'd have to contact his boss and that he doubted he could, as it would be very expensive. Why offer us champagne earlier than? Frustrated, we offered to pay for our sodas and leave.  Suddenly, Ahmed claimed his boss agreed to "comp" the entire meal but insisted we had to take "a couple of bites" inside the restaurant before he would box it up. It was a bizarre ultimatum, but he elaborated that he was "doing us a favor" because the meal was quite expensive. By this point, we finally had enough and left with nothing; I'm not sure our order ever made it to the kitchen. To make matters worse, the receptionist claimed to validate our parking tickets, but when we got to the parking deck, none of our tickets worked. We each had to pay $30 at the gate. A deeply disappointing experience defined by unprofessional management. We will be contesting this with our credit card companies. read more

Second, Valencia, our marvelous server, and the chefs were absolutely accommodating and very knowledgeable regarding our table - celiac diet. Example duck had kale. there were less than two pieces of kale had a butternut squash. I'd say maybe there was a half a teaspoon if that on the plate. The Greek salad I think they must've forgotten the dressing very bland, but we asked for some oil we even needed salt and pepper. Everything was a bit off, a bit planned, but nothing was bad. Even the chocolate gelato must've been some other version of chocolate. Chocolate layer cake actually had white layers and far from very chocolatey. As for Tea all they had was Sleepytime tea ??? Beautifully designed restaurant for an elegant dinner with friends. The staff were very attentive and had great recommendations. They came to the table at the perfect times and didn't bother or forget about us. Literally everything we order was phenomenal! I over ate because it was so good but luckily with a group, we shared and were all able to sample a little bit of everything. The chef even gave us some hummus while we waited for our order. Definitely stop by here for a memorable evening. The rooftop bar was closed and they were decorating for Christmas but we were still able to at least check it out and grab some cute photos.
