Worst Experience Purchased a property that had a quote from Terra Firma. Agreed to the quote and contracted with them with a strict timeline to rent the property. Terra Firma advised to wait on roof and window repairs until the lift of the house was completed. Waited for a break in their schedule. Reminded Amber that I needed to see the work. Called Amber later in the week. She apologized, and said the work had already been covered up. Contract states pre and post walk through. I went to walk the house, and the floor was worse than before, instead of leaning it now cups in the middle. Also noted breaks in the chimney, cracks in the foundation, broken siding above a pier and a new opening above the electrical panel. Time passes... Called Terra Firma and they acknowledged extra support for the chimney. Had a representative come out. Representative was surprised how the project was left. Took measurements, said it should have been done better. Also stated that the foreman was known for leaving sites in poor condition. Terra Firma to call me back. Time passes... Weeks go by, Mike fromTerra Firma comes out with another person. Extremely unprofessional! They state that extra work could have been done. I'm clear and say that I want the extra work, or at least the opportunity for it as afforded in the contract. Mike says there is no way they will dig back up, but both agree that a beam could have been used to level. Contract says other costs may come up. I was never approached. Foreman never went into the home on a leveling job. I was never walked through the project, floor isn't level even though they say they could have done it. Terra Firma to call me back. Several calls to Terra Firma Later. Someone is supposed to go out and repair holes in siding, concrete, and chimney Oct 5th. Oct 6th, I get demand for payment and lien. Oct 7th, I pay final bill. Speak to Clint (says he is VP) says they will do no more work, house is not level. Extremely unprofessional and rude! I have now left messages for Owner Ryan 4 times to call back to resolve. TL;DR - spent almost $9000 to fix a leak. Didn't fix the issue. Now they won't return my calls. I called TerraFirma awhile back because I had a leak entering my finished basement. They responded promptly and sent someone out pretty quickly to look at the issue. He let me know that we needed to get a pump installed, get some French drains, and put in some waterproofing and that an estimate would be sent over. I received an estimate the following day with two options - one that addressed the issue and one that had some additional preventative waterproofing and extended coverage of the drains. I opted for the second option that was nearly $9000 since I rented the place and didn't want my renters to have to deal with the issue moving forward. TerraFirma did a great job on the install. They were fast, professional, and were very unobtrusive with my renters. I then had some other contractors refinish the basement from the demo and I felt confident that the leaking was gone. Or so I thought.... Then, the leak came back. I immediately called their phone on September 9th and they transferred me to a voicemail box to a person who handles previous repairs. I left a message, and never heard back. I called again a few days later and never heard back. Finally, I sent an angry email and called again and I heard back on September 19th. We scheduled someone to come out October 4th. The contractor came and took a look and he mentioned that some of the preventative work wasn't done correctly. When I asked him to reach out to the previous contractor, he said that he no longer worked there. Fine, so they messed up and they would correct the issue. He said he would get me a statement of work the next day. I reached out again to the contractor on October 8th and left asking where the SOW is. He texts me back the following day saying it would come that afternoon and he was sick. I check again on October 14th to see where it is and didn't receive a response. I sent another message today (October 15th) and didn't receive a response. At this point, I'm not sure what to do. I sent another angry message through their site and every day they don't respond, I'm losing money by not having the place rented. And I still have a leak. Terra Firma delivered at every turn. I called them in December because of excessive flooding. Chris Wallace came and quoted us immediately. They had a wait time until April. I received a call a couple weeks later that they could come January 4. Woohoo! They came to the rescue when I really needed them. Everyone from the company was so professional. The foreman of the job (Sam, I think?) was very nice and explained everything they were doing. When the area drained and dried weeks later, they came back to level the floor and put down the vapor barrier. One of the crew noticed one of the pumps had failed and immediately replaced it. We didn't even know. That's honesty and integrity, the kind of company with which I like to do business. Through all the services, one person kept it all together. I called TerraFirma as I have a load bearing wall that is sinking. I bought the home 2 years ago knowing that I would need to get that wall better supported. When Chad was here I was very specific of my needs: "that wall is sinking and I want it back up where it should be." After he crawled and measured he advised that I need new and additional posts under the spine/stringer/beam that runs the length of my home. He made a proposal to add the posts. It was a couple months later and I hired TerraFirma. As they were jacking it up I was watching the cracks in the hallway, which I expected and was not concerned about, that can be repaired. The wall that I needed up was not cracking though it was coming up 2". That wall never cracked. That wall never came up all the way, The doors at the opposite end of the house will not close now so I thought perhaps they measured wrong and that end went up too high, and the wall with the issues too low. The kids doing it had no answers for me as they did what they were told, jack up the spine. Which by the way, is not under the wall I needed lifted................... Go figure. I called Chad and told him. He said that he looked over the diagrams and I need a beam and posts under the floor joists that hold up that wall....... I would have to pay of course. Someone came out Friday but no Chad. I showed the tech where the wall was still low and where the spine was. His first reaction, that the spine was not under the wall, and I paid 10k to list the wall was "that's criminal". Joking of course. He made adjustments and came closer to getting the doors to close and thought maybe there were jacks still too high bit to let it settle. OK that's reasonable. But wait, He tells me that to get that wall up I need to jack up the floor, not add a beam, and shim the floor joist. Huh? I'll be calling them once I cool off a bit. We did we learn? I showed TerraFirma the problem, TerraFirma came up with a solution. I paid 10k, their solution was wrong and I have 2 people from TerraFirma giving me 2 different solutions to the original problem. A field rep told us he sent the paper work in for refund it just has to go through accounting. Still no refund or even a Call to explain why this is taking so long. We hired Terra Firma to set up a water diversion system for our basement. Though they were more expensive than our other quote, they came highly recommended and have a (as far as I can tell) pretty good reputation. Unfortunately, we ran into a few problems and are now left with plenty of damage to our basement and no sump pump. After the initial crew discovered space between our basement slab and the ground underneath, things went off the rails. Good things: Everyone who came out to the house was friendly. When we requested a refund for the work, it was sent out promptly. Bad things: Communication was surprisingly bad for a large company. It consistently took at least two messages (and many days) for us to receive responses to any inquiry, even after we had a giant hole in our floor. Excuses were many (it was a Friday, someone was traveling, someone was in a week-long training), but the pattern never changed. This was especially frustrating when we needed to get further work and repairs scheduled--after discovering the foundation problem (and creating more problems by leaving our basement in total disarray), we couldn't get our project manager to tell us when they could get our repairs back on the books. Our calls/emails were ignored until I reached out to complain to customer service, after which they got back to us immediately. Also, they forgot to cancel their subcontractors after cancelling our job, which meant we had a very awkward visit with some electricians the day after they left. read more

I'm happy with the work I had TerraFirma do recently. I first had them out to my house to get an estimate on a combination earthquake retrofit and waterproofing project. The price (from them, and their competitors) was more money than I could tackle at the time, so I deferred. Fast forward 6 months to the big rains of winter 2017, and my basement was flooding. The TerraFirma sales guy was able to stop by on short notice, and gave me a really reasonably-priced estimate for a much smaller waterproofing project that included some ditch digging in my crawlspace, a replacement sump pump, and some stormwater piping. I got on their schedule for about a month out. But since my project was smaller, they were able to call me sooner (about 2 weeks) and fit me in early. Despite TerraFirma's many slogans and promises, it ended up being the worst experience I have ever had with a business. My problem with this company is not that they made mistakes (many, some fairly serious), but rather, how they chose to handle the situation. They did attempt to fix some of the problems, but when that was unsuccessful, they were unwilling to refund more than a small percentage of my money. Here is a summary of the most relevant issues: 1) TerraFirma (TF) recommended more than $20,000 worth of unnecessary repairs on our home (this was confirmed by several other contractors and an engineer). 2) Be aware that compensation for sales reps. at TF is 100% commission-based; if they don't sell, they don't get paid. 3) TF did not obtain required permits and engineering for most of the work done at our home. 4) Much of the work was not up to code and caused further damage to the house. 5) The wrong type of piers were installed, causing more damage to our home. 6) No one from TF told me about the mistake or the damage they caused. Instead, I found this out on my own, months later. 7) I made multiple attempts to resolve the issues with TF, and was treated poorly by the project manager and the owner of the company. 8) The owner of TF told his employee to walk out of a CCB mediation and withdraw all previous offers, leaving me with absolutely no compensation. My only other recourse was to file a lawsuit. 9) After two years, I received a pretty large refund, but still lost about $20,000 on the transaction (due to legal fees, paying for unnecessary work, and the cost of repairing the issues caused by TF). The matter may have been resolved, but it was not to my satisfaction. 10) If you do choose to hire TF, I strongly encourage you to hire your own engineer so there will be more accountability and your interests will be protected. Also, get several opinions from other companies before deciding on a repair plan. Finally, check their CCB complaint history (as of today, TF has 8 complaints filed against them). You can read the complaint files at the CCB office (free of charge) or order copies for a small fee. From now on, I will always do these things before hiring a contractor for expensive or complicated repairs. read more

This is an amazing company from start to finish. If you need foundation work done this is the company to use. We were recommended to use Terra Firma from a friend, (the best kind of recommendation!) We just had our foundation lifted, it had dropped 6 inches. The crew who worked on our house was lead by Gus, Spencer and Lucas. They were so professional, kind, and worked together so well. These are the most diligent hard workers! We both were so impressed. They answered all our questions and put us at ease. We feel Iike we have a new house. We can walk down our upstairs hallway without feeling we are walking down hill. Our doors in our upstairs haven't closed since 1995. They open and close now with ease. Don, the gentleman who initially came out to assess our property, was incredibly thorough - taking numerous measurements, shimmying around our crawlspace, drawing schematics, and then taking the time to walk us through everything in detail. When the initial proposal was far out our budget (the house needs a lot of work), Don spent 45 minutes on the phone - at 7pm, no less - breaking down the work and explaining ways we could tackle the project piece by piece. We elected to begin by replacing our support posts for the front wall with smart jacks, installing new footings, and and adding additional support beams and jacks for the front porch. The day of the work (yes, it was all done in one day!), project lead Leo contacted us on his way to the job to inform us of his ETA. They were right on time, and his team took time to thoroughly walk the site with us before initiating work. I was having some basement leaking that appeared to be coming from an old patio which had settled and tilted toward the house. Enter Terra Firma. They explained what they would be able to do (and what they couldn't do which was even more important), how long it would take and what it would cost Scheduling was easy, technicians were prompt and cleaned up more than I expected. They weren't able to complete the job in one appointment because of wet weather so we waited until the weather dried out. They came back four months later with the same lead technician who was amazing. It does look like one end of my basement issue has been arrested. I've been waiting to write this review for two years because I wanted to make sure the waterproofing held up through a couple rainy winters. Thankfully, it did! It started when we noticed small amounts of water seeping into our finished basement several years ago -- not enough to flood the place, but enough to ruin carpet, baseboards and sheet rock around the perimeter of the house. After John's Waterproofing dropped the ball on getting an estimate to us, we called Terra Firma. They did a thorough job of investigating the problem, talked to us about possible solutions and gave us an estimate (including a discount for accepting the bid on the spot) that was in line with what we expected. We ended up installing a Dry Trak system around the inside perimeter of the foundation to catch any water that seeps through preventing it from reaching the walls. Unfortunately, water started seeping into the basement again when the rains hit -- but it wasn't the fault of Terra Firma. The contractor (RL Custom; since out of business) who poured the foundation left parts of the wood forms in the footing and skim coated some cement over the top of them! So as the wood deteriorated, it let the water into the basement outside of where the Dry Trak was installed. The Terra Firm technical team diagnosed the new problem, talked to us about options, and then sealed off the leaking areas at no additional charge. They also came back five or six times over the following year to seal tiny foundation cracks and imperfections that were letting small amounts of water in. Again, no additional charge. Finally, after getting through the last year with no issues, we started the process of rebuilding our walls and had several questions about insulation, venting and materials. One call to Terra Firma answered our questions and helped us finalize the plan with the contractor. I was impressed by their willingness to keep helping us two years after we last paid anything. That commitment to get it right says a lot about the company and that is the reason I would highly recommend them. read more

About a year ago, Terra Firma helped us with an apartment building that was "sliding" (this is just strictly my language) off its foundation. We have a 1910 Old Portland home. The basement has been a moist problem for the last 10 years or so. You can smell the damp air and my wife hates to keep anything down there as she thinks there's mold in them thar regions.
