    Harvest salad with grilled chicken

Nestled away in Independence, OR is this fantastic little gem, The Territory restaurant located inside the Independence Hotel. The service was great, the outdoor patio seating was very cozy with a beautiful view of the Willamette River. I had the Fall Territory Salad made with roasted butternut squash, slices apples, feta with mix spring and grilled chicken.

I loved the fact that the patio is set right next to the river. The service was nice--our server had a good sense of humor. The charcuterie board was mediocre--stale bread and chunks of okay cheese, but the olive paste was tasty. The rest of the dishes we ordered were fine--nothing to write home about. Overall, it was a chill place to hang out with a couple of good friends.

Food was phenomenal. The menu changed to a smaller selection, but what they are making its done right. Will be back regularly for the food, service, and view.

When: Wed Aug 5th 2020; 8:00 pm; Party of 2 Adults The Territory Restaurant is the hotel restaurant of the Independence Hotel. For this eatery, it's the river front views and the outdoor patio seating that is a key selling point for hotel guests and friends to meet up for lunch or dinner. The menu here is pretty much standard American fare, that covers all the bases, to satisfy a broad range of clientele. On this late dinner occasion, my wife ordered the Top Sirloin entree, that came with salad greens and fingerling potatoes. Per her response, the Top Sirloin was nothing remarkable and the sides were very tasty. For me, I ordered the Halibut Fish & Chips. On first impressions, my Halibut Fish was drowning in a bed of Fries. The Halibut was very tasty and moist and I just wish there were more Halibut pieces to finish up almost half a plate of fries. In my honest opinion, the Territory restaurant has a built-in captured audience & clientele, from the hotel, as well as being one of the few higher end restaurant in the Independence/Monmouth area. As stated earlier, the river front views is the big draw, that will bring in customers. But I really think, for the portions being offered, at the current pricing point, the food quality needs to be kicked up a notch or two, to keep hotel guests happy or area residents coming back as frequent restaurant patrons and not just a one and done visit.

The guava margarita and Brussel sprouts for an appetizer are a must here. Don't get the charcuterie app. It was definitely subpar in the grand scale of charcuterie boards out there. The view of the Willamette River was incredible, relaxing, and serene. The music was 90s/2000s alt rock.

View 5/5 Service 5/5 Food 1/5 Love the location and they have a great atmosphere. There were four of us and we each ordered something different. Our food review ranged from average to not good at all. Hopefully this review helps this restaurant focus on the area where improvement is desperately needed.

We had an excellent time at Territory! We had the Spinach Dip, Tempeh Sandwich, and Seared Ahi Salad. All of the food was delicious and the service was great! They did a great job at social distancing and keeping everything sanitized. My only recommendation for the restaurant is to have music playing inside and outside.

We really liked this place. Well the food and drinks were good anyway. The Elderflower Old Fashioned was so good, we went again for another meal within a week. The first visit I had fish and chips, hubby had andouille mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was a good size serving, the fish and chips were three smallish pieces and lots of chips, too much to finish. Both were good and we will have them again. The next time, we both had the New York steak. Now those were really good. I had the bleu cheese butter, hubby had the bourbon butter. Served with in-season vegetables and potatoes. All cooked perfectly and delicious. We also shared a Caesar salad, which was good, not great, but good. The atmosphere is a bit sterile, and the service was good, neither were warm nor welcoming- but efficient.

Half of the veggies with our hummus appetizer. Left us concerned about what our main meal would be.

First we arrived 20-30min prior to our reservation. The lady at the front was sooo friendly I was taken back! We asked if we could sit at the bar and get a drink. Of course she said yes. The bar is super cute and I love the hours off-set the restaurant hours so you can enjoy drinks prior to and after dinner. The bar tender was super friendly and you can see he enjoyed his job. The drinks were really good! Our friendly greater came to get us promptly when our table was ready. The table was ready with fresh baked bread and butter. Our waiter was Jessie; what a gem! He was so friendly and helped us with the menu and gave excellent recommendations. We started off with the bar fries (Jessie's recommendation) wow! They were amazing not super heavy and a perfect starter. I had the special which was a NY steak, with Hatch Chili polenta. My steak was perfection and the polenta was delicious. I loved the gravy as well. Superb blend of flavors. We ended the night with the flourless chocolate cake and espresso martini. Fabulous food and honestly some of the friendliest staff I have ever encountered.

The tomato appetizer that everyone seemed to rave about was ho hum and several of the sliced tomatoes were already mealy. We left it half uneaten. Entrees were another problem. The steak was over-marinated, so it became mushy even though apparently grill marks were attempted. The fish was poached, which can be good, but it arrived cold & was un-appetizing. It came with seasonal succotash underneath the fish but that was grayish, lumpy & also cold, so it was scraped to the side. Most was left uneaten & when offered to have it boxed up, we declined. I know there are not a lot of options in Albany for "fine dining" but this place is not worth the prices they charge.

Rainy Day, Great Bar Seat, and One Memorable Meal…read more It was a cold, rainy Oregon afternoon when I stumbled into Castor, and I'm glad I did. There happened to be one open seat at the bar, which is my favorite place to dine when traveling. Sitting at the bar lets you talk story with the bartender, learn the menu, and watch the cocktails come together. If you're eating alone, I highly recommend grabbing a seat here. The bartender was friendly, easy to talk with, and clearly knew both the menu and the craft behind the bar. One thing that stood out right away was their use of fresh local ingredients, which really shows up in the flavor of the dishes and drinks. I started with the Golden Manhattan, made with a pecan-infused bourbon that was fantastic. It had a rich, slightly nutty flavor with warm vanilla notes and just the right touch of sweetness. Smooth, balanced, and a great way to kick off the meal. Alongside that I ordered the chorizo clam chowder, which brought a creamy base with just the right amount of spice from the chorizo. Comfort food with a little personality. For dinner I switched gears and ordered the Creole Sour. This one really stood out. Bright citrus up front, a smooth bourbon backbone, and a subtle spice note that tied perfectly into the Creole theme. It had that classic sour balance, tart, slightly sweet, and refreshing without overpowering the drink. Dinner was the gumbo with hot bread and butter, and it delivered. Deep flavor, a nice slow warmth from the spice, and hearty enough to make the rainy Oregon weather feel like part of the experience. To finish things off I kept it simple with a neat pour of Ben Holladay, which made for the perfect nightcap. The staff were welcoming and relaxed, which made the whole experience feel easy and comfortable. This is the kind of place that works whether you're dining solo, meeting friends, out with someone special, or grabbing dinner with a group. The price point landed right where it should be for the quality of food, cocktails, and service. If you're in Corvallis and can grab a seat at the bar at Castor, take it. Order a cocktail, settle in, and enjoy the ride. It turned a rainy afternoon into one heck of a meal.

Almost…read moreeverything I had was great...except for the pork chop which was so dry, I could barely get it down. Dry dry dry. Not the slightest bit juicy. I would never order that again. $37 isn't cheap and I expect more out of a nice piece of pork than being cooked to death. Couldn't really tell it was bourbon and brown sugar marinated. No trace of either of those flavors. Left half of it on my plate and let my server know it was dry. The Summer Maque Choux, which was underneath the pork chop was so off-the-hook good I got just an order of that to take home! They do serve the Maque Choux as a "Snack" and I highly recommend you try it. The pickled tomatoes served on top of the pork were sweet, juicy, and slightly pickled. Yum! The Crispy Pork Belly with the housemade mustard was delicious - the mustard has a great kick to it. The Trout with crispy capers, green beans, and hazelnuts was very tasty. Would get that again, for sure. The sliders were good...I'm not sure $5/each good...but good. Crème Brûlée was excellent. And they make the best Piña Colada I've had in a long time. I'd give 3.5 stars if I could, because that pork chop was soooooooo disappointing, but 4 it is. Everything else was tasty. I'll come back, but not go anywhere near that pork chop.
