We visited three BBQ spots while visiting Texas (Hutchins, Interstellar, and here) and Terry Black's was our favorite. We got the beef rib, brisket, and jalapeno cheese sausage to share along with a side of green beans, creamed corn, and cornbread. The beef rib and brisket were so tender and soft. There was quite a bit of fat on the rib though that we cut off as it felt a bit too heavy for us. The jalapeno cheese sausage was also not too dense and a great addition to the beef that we got. This place is loud, crowded, and bustling, but we didn't have any trouble finding a seat and the line moves fast although it looks long. My husband unfortunately lost his wedding ring here after he took it off to dig in, and one staff member really went above and beyond even going through the trash to try to find it. I wish we got her name, but we were touched by her effort. Definitely give this place a try if you enjoy BBQ (and if you find a gray wedding ring, please turn it into the staff)! read more

I have a tradition. Every year on my birthday, I treat myself to Terry Black's beef rib. Only one. That's all I need. At $40 a piece, we'll need I say more. But WOw, just WOW. Come early and you will find this deceptively large bbq paradise by following your nose. You'll enter through a back porch styled outer area and get in line. You will move through a cafeteria style line where you can see and select sides and desserts. The selection is typical for Texas bbq spots with Cole slaw, pinto beans, and 'tater salad. The beans are laced with bits of brisket. Quite nice. The mac and cheese was creamy and decadent. At the end of the line, you will select the style and quantity of meat. I recommend the second or third beef rib on the rack, if possible. The end ribs are smaller. You're welcome. This brontosaurus sized beef rib is basically brisket-on-the-bone. When you bite this, you will experience bbq at Boss level. This is a step up and I don't care where you're stepping from. Sauce? Save the sauce for someone who needs it cuz' you won't want to mask any of this. Be prepared. The line can be long but once through the door, enjoy a frosty micro-brew or classic beer while you wait. Be ready to dodge folks in need of the restroom. The restrooms are not convenient, hidden behind the waiting line. I would Uber to Terry's. The food is wonderful, but the parking lot is small. Came here with the boo on our visit to Austin. Had to try this Michelin rated BBQ joint. There was a line that went out the door and down the patio ramp, but it actually moves fairly quickly. Since it was hot out, there's crowds of people trying to get drinks at the bar that situated outside on the patio. There's plenty of instructions on how to order, but if you forget there are QR codes posted along the line. Pick you sides, grab a drink (they have a bar when you enter while still lined up), and someone will guide you to the meat station where you will tell them how much meat and what kind you want. We got 2 slices of brisket, 1 jalepeño sausage, and 2 pork ribs. For sides we got the Mac & cheese, coleslaw, and creamed corn. It comes with complementary pickles and raw onions, and you have to ask for bread if you want it. Then you hunt for indoor or outdoor seating. The amount of food was definitely seam busting, but damn, how could you not shovel more food into your mouth when it tasted that good?! They try to upsell you as you walk the line to order to get their mac and cheese or baked beans. I was dining alone so I took the liberty of writing up my review while eating lol but I had no signal in the restaurant so I had to type it up in my notes app. I found my review as I'm cleaning up my notes haha. Ready? It's a long one! Tip: come during off hour, because it'll still be busy. But don't worry! The line moves quickly. I showed up about 4:30pm on a Friday, and although the line was out the door, I waited less than 30 minutes. They're very efficient. As you stand in line, you're led through their merchandise (which I admit tempted me- you can purchase that from the bar after your meal). You first choose your sides and dessert. As you approach the sides, there are some bottled/canned drinks. If you are planning on water, don't be fooled into buying bottled water (unless that's your preference) because there are cups for water available. After sides, you are led to the cashier where you choose your meats and pay. After paying, you can help yourself to plasticware and plates. Another hot tip: if you know what you want, feel free to preorder and skip the line. As a solo diner, I got the small mac and cheese, small green beans, 1/2lb brisket, and 1 pork rib, for a total of $43. The brisket was super tender and the pork ribs just fell off the bone. I wasn't a big fan of the sides I tried. I didn't care for the green beans and the mac and cheese was just okay. I really wanted to try the beans and the creamed corn but I knew there was no way I could finish it all myself. Barbecue sauces (original, sweet and spicy) are located at the table along with a roll of paper towels. I honestly did not taste much of a difference between the sauces. Sweet was sweeter than the original but the original was also sweet in its right. Spicy had just a slight spice. However I did enjoy all 3 barbecue sauces. I even bought an original to bring home. I was beyond stuffed, so I guess it's a good thing I forgot to order the peach cobbler I was eying. Another thing to mention is that my cellular signal was horrible inside, it went from one bar to SOS status. So I hope no one's trying to reach you while you dine. read more

This was my first time having barbecue in Texas and I was not disappointed. The line was very long when I arrived, but it moved very fast as they have a large staff taking orders and prepping the food. I was impressed by their streamlined ordering process: as you progress through the line, you first get to order drinks, followed by another station where you can select sides, and finally reach the meat counter at the end where you tell them the quantity of meet that you'd like. Once you pay for your order, the search begins for an empty table. The restaurant has a ton of seating space (both indoor and outdoor), but it was still difficult to find an empty table on a week night.
