    6/4/25 Hubby loves their gumbo!
    Jennifer W.

6/4/25 It's literally a hole in the wall, located right next to the infamous (and haunted) Hotel Cecil where serial killer, Richard Ramirez stayed in the 80's. My apologies for the morbid extra detail but it bears mentioning. Hubby loves Gumbo Boys' gumbo w/ chicken & shrimp with a side of steamed rice. He ordered the jumbo size (If you ask me, this is the smallest Jumbo ever seen!) and I ordered the fried catfish poboy. What is pictured/posted, the facade of the establishment is what it is. It's where you order, & about 4 seats, a counter next to the order counter that you may dine to enjoy your food. There are 2 red tables at the front of the shop with 4 chairs each. There is no indoor dining at all. Gotta admit, the food is great! The gravy on the gumbo was tasty & flavorful, just the right amount of seasoning, about 5 or 6 jumbo shrimp, tender cuts of chicken, andouille sausage. The cornbread? Meh, skip that, nothing special. Parking is horrendously limited unless you park & pay next door. A few orders are walk up & eat, but mostly to-go and a majority is delivery (DoorDash, Ubereats, Postmates, Grubhub). Oh my, the catfish poboy was phenomenal, perfectly fried fish and the lettuce & tomatoes were fresh. If you don't mind getting accosted by some vagrants while ordering/dining, you'll be fine. Or for me, I will NOT go unless Hubby is with me! Again, food is delicious (Almost) worth the gamble

I ordered online, and this food was bussin! As a native Louisianian, I rarely trust cajun spots here in LA, especially those that have "gumbo," but the name "gumbo boys" was so bold, I had to try. I loved everything! The gumbo was delicious, and the sausages were perfect! The cornbread was on point! The eggroll with the red beans n rice dipped in the remoulade sauce went CRAZY! I wasn't expecting it to be so flavorful, but it was definitely a party in my mouth! I can't comment on the service or ambiance of the restaurant because I ordered takeout, but I will say this, everything was packaged neatly and arrived hot! I have no complaints! I will definitely be ordering here again, and I urge soul food lovers to try our that eggroll ASAP because it's so GOOD!

Idk what these reviews are all about. My parents are Louisiana natives and I've had my fair share of amazing southern food. There are only like two decent spots in LA and this is one of them. Got catfish, shrimp, red beans and rice, gumbo, hush puppies. Would order it all again. You Californian's are wrong about a lot of southern food and it is a shame.

    CAJUN EGGROLL. Try it!

This is strictly for the Cajun egg roll. Looking for a snack not a meal try the Cajun eggroll. This is what brought me here. Made fresh to order. A large egg roll filled with rice and red beans, cheese and sausage. Served with a tasty remoulade sauce to dip it in. Fried just right that gives you that crunchy 1st bite. Even though the eggroll brought me here there are plenty of other great items to choose from the menu. I will make my way back one day. I would suggest calling your order in. Seems like a long wait if you don't.

10/10 delicious! I ordered it on Uber Eats it arrived perfectly packaged and they added delicious sauces. My order consisted of red beans and rice with a side of shrimp an order of cornbread and a Cajun egg roll that is buy one get one free right now! Hurry and get you some thank me later ! It's so delicious! I will definitely order from here again and again :P

Some of the best gumbo I've had in LA! Various portion sizes to choose from and plenty of shrimp, chicken and sausage in my serving. Comes Roth crackers. Fish poboy was fully dressed. This too was enjoyable but could have had a bit more meat. The server was friendly, brought us our food (we sat at one of the two tables in the front). This is primarily a to-go restaurant. People I chatted with ordered in advance and came to pick up their orders. It's a cute facade but NO ambience. Downtown LA is not clean and the homeless population is in this area. Lost a star due to location. I located street parking and my sister paid $10 for the lot next to the restaurant. I would order takeout if in the area and I had someplace to eat or take the food.

I used to visit them when they had the street cart back in Hollywood and now they have their own spot! The food here is so good! My cousin and I stopped by and ordered the Seafood Gumbo, Shrimp & Grits, and some Gator Bites. Taste and texture was great and I'm still dreaming about them Gator Bites. Also, it was enough to last me that day and the next. My cousin loved the gumbo so much he went back the same week I LOVE seeing family owned businesses succeed, keep it up guys and thanks for helping us out Q!

My friend and I came here after a few drinks at a bar up the street, we've always wanted to try! Will definitely be back. The catfish and shrimp were battered and fried to perfection. They came with a side of house sauce and hot sauce which complimented both perfectly! I enjoy by fries not too crunchy (I want to taste the soft potato inside) and they made them just how I like them. They weren't overly seasoned or salty! The hush puppies were SCRUMPTIOUS. I'll be ordering just a side of these the next time I come. We also ordered the Cajun egg roll, which was different but the filling of red beans, rice, and sausage were spectacular. Flavor 10/10 on all of the dishes. I definitely want to try the gumbo (since that's what their most prized dish is) and their cornbread. Until next time gumbo boys! Thank you for fulfilling my expectations!

I ordered the crawfish etouffee to go and it definitely reminded me of New Orleans flavor. The crawfish was of decent size and was plentiful . Not to thick of a sauce, just right.

My partners and I went here for lunch recently. The murals on the stall are so cute and the person at the counter was very patient as we decided on all the things we wanted. We ordered so many things so we could try it all! The only thing that missed the mark was the cornbread. Everything else was good to great. My boyfriend was pleased with the fried catfish - one of his favorites from someone who grew up in Southern Louisiana. My partner got the blue crab po boy. It was tender and flavorful with great bread. Both the red beans and rice and the gumbo had so much protein - tons of sausage in both and a lot of chicken in the gumbo. A great value. The hushpuppies were crunchy outside and tender inside with great flavor throughout. I want to go back and try the shrimp and grits.

I ordered the sausage gumbo and was not impressed. It was bland. I had to add seasoning and still didn't finish it. Disappointed.

I couldn't believe I'd never reviewed it before so I wanted to do so following another delicious brunch at Joyce today. From the moment we sat down, the service was impeccable. Our table never lacked for tea, water, coffee, etc. Foster took great care of us (and shout out to Nick who's also provided amazing service to us there). The Bloody Mary was the first thing to blow my mind. It was absolutely delicious and maybe my new favorite Bloody Mary in LA. It made me wish I'd Ubered. But I also had some wonderful hot, Earl Grey tea. I love how they present it to the table. We covered a lot of ground and no notes. We had the caviar with crème fraîche and truffle kettle chips, a seafood platter that , the fried green tomatoes - which I will order every time I'm there, and the Dungeness crab and rock shrimp Benedict. The dining room itself is beautiful--comfortable, stylish, and inviting. When you look around the room there, it feels like every table in there is celebrating something. In a city overflowing with brunch options, it's surprisingly rare to find a place where the food, service, atmosphere, and pacing all work together so seamlessly. It was one of those meals that reminds you why dining out can still feel special.

The restaurant is located at the Beverly Center and does not validate parking. The good news is that parking is relatively affordable at $1 per hour. Since I don't eat meat or chicken, I checked the menu online beforehand and found several options that looked appealing. Unfortunately, once we were seated, we were given a completely different menu. When I asked about it, our server, Lindsey, explained that the menu I had seen online isn't available until after 3 p.m. That was disappointing since I had already planned my meal. We started with the biscuits. They had a strong smoky flavor that honestly made me think they were baked with pork fat or in an oven used for barbecue. Lindsey assured me they weren't made with any meat fats, but the smoky flavor was definitely noticeable. I ordered the salmon with microgreens and a side of mac and cheese. My partner ordered the steak and eggs with hash browns, and we both enjoyed the mint mocktails--they were refreshing and one of the highlights of the meal. The salmon was cooked well and I enjoyed it. The mac and cheese, however, was a huge letdown. It arrived in a cute little cast-iron skillet on a butcher block, so the presentation was great, but the taste didn't match the appearance. It reminded me of boxed mac and cheese made with powdered cheese, topped with Parmesan just to create a crust. It was runny, lacked richness, and there wasn't even a hint of that satisfying cheese pull. Unfortunately, there were service issues as well. My partner specifically ordered his eggs over hard, but they weren't prepared that way. His hash browns never arrived at the table, and on the drive home he realized we had been charged for them. He intended to mention it before leaving but simply forgot. The biggest positive is the restaurant itself. It's beautiful, stylish, and has a great ambiance. Beyond that, though, I found the food to be average for the price. Even by Los Angeles standards, $42 for chicken and waffles feels excessive. Overall, Yardbird looks better than it tastes. While there were a few bright spots, the inconsistent service, menu confusion, and underwhelming food don't justify the price. Unfortunately, I don't see myself returning.

She told me this branch was started by the same folks of the original in New Orleans. Due to a an issue with the freeway closure and horrible traffic, we were very late and she kindly honored our reservation. The food was fantastic. Great crunchy and spice on the chicken (it is on the spicy side so be careful if you cannot handle the heat). The little corn breads were just the right amount. We tried the yams, which is a must, but also shared some of the other sides. The cabbage is cooked kind of like collard greens. The butter beans and rice is very tasty.
