I saw a lot of favorable recs of this place that is at the top of Morrow and 183, and it is a small business endeavor so I gave it a try. Ordering on the 'net was easy as was picking up the order. The fellow I got the order from was a friendly, cheerful dude and the place, although empty, looked very clean and organized. They are appropriately observing COVID precautions. I open the food container and saw 3 fat, stuffed crisply tacos with a bit more meat that one usually finds.. There, also were the ubiquitous refried beans and Mexican style rice. The problem is, and the reason for only 3 stars, is that the meat in the tacos was disappointingly uninteresting as were the "refritos.I believe that his product could be greatly improved if he would kick up the seasoning of both. What ever, add a bit more chil pepper, a bit more cumin, for that Mexican food flavor and perhaps more salt and fat to the beans (not sure about the latter, but they had a flatter than usual taste comparatively. In general, refried beans are sort of bland, like hummus, but a good foil for the contrasting spiceyness of Mexican food. If this place would take my suggestions to heart, I think I could easily give them at least 4 stars. I am eager to try their breakfasts when the evil times we are living in are past! read more

Second time to have Tex-Mex Joe's. About a year ago a friend and I had lunch here and it was great. I had the chicken enchiladas verde. The chips chips and salsa was very good and the prices are very reasonable. The other day I was running late to work and wasn't able to pickup breakfast. I turned to Uber eats and thank goodness Tex-Mex Joe's was right there. I was so eager try the breakfast that I actually ordered too much. I had the carne guisada taco, the Messycan Burrito and chilaquiles breakfast plate. The carne guisada was point on in flavor but was a small taco. The Messycan Burrito is a home run in the volume and flavors area. They offer a fantastic green and red salsa with your order. I took the chilaquiles plate home with me and had it for dinner and wow, Blew me away. You have to get some breakfast from here friends. read more

I am from San Antonio so I am pretty critical of breakfast tacos. This place was delicious. I would probably stick to the tacos though, the person I was with didn't care much for his huevos rancheros. The tacos are a good size and had lots of flavor, especially when paired with the salsa. The service is the best! You can tell the owner really cares about his customers. There was a slight mistake with my order and he got it fixed in less than a minute. I never had to ask for coffee, it was always refilled. My server was new but she couldn't have done a better job! Now on to price, this place is ridiculously cheap, in a good way. There were no 4 dollar tacos like some other places you see around town. I like breakfast tacos because they're delicious but I also want them to be decently priced. Tex Mex Joes has this part down. OH. MY. GOD. The new holy grail of Tex Mex. Marco has done an amazing job with this place! The Migas here is to die for, as well as the Barbacoa that simmers for 7 hours. I always call before I leave my house for my Migas taco on corn with avocado, and is ready by the time I get there. Green Salsa. Salsa Verde. Salsa de Heaven. You need it in and around your mouth all day every day. If i could eat it every day, I would. I would bathe in it. Marco is awesome with his service, and attentiveness. I forgot the name of what I had (it was one of the traditional Mexican Breakfasts) , but it was VERY fresh and flavorful! I also had a pancake, which was THE best pancake I've had in a while! The name is misleading. This place is pretty authentic and very delicious. The owner, Marco is a great guy and an excellent host. Writing this review honestly sucks because this place is so highly rated, but I really don't understand it. While our waitress was very polite, I felt like she could've come around more. We were running out of chips and waters pretty quickly. Other than that, the salsa was tasty. I tried the chicken fajitas and they came out extremely dry and over cooked. The rice was a bit hard and didn't have much flavor. The charro beans I definitely liked. But they also don't provide you with much to put on your fajita tacos. I also like a lot of bell peppers and onions with my fajitas and there wasn't much of that either. The corn tortillas were overcooked as well so it made them tough to eat. I'm bummed. And brought people here with higher expectations. It just sucks when everyone ends up disappointed. Maybe I'm just actually not a big fan of Tex Mex? Or maybe there are simply better restaurants out there. Side note: hopefully they just had a bad day. And maybe I'd try it again in the future. I can only vouch for the breakfast tacos/take out. I work at the complex across the street, but getting to and from this location off Lamar is easy and there is a parking lot out front which is rarely ever full. They are fast, friendly & cheap! You can get seriously full from these tacos. Definetely on the larger side, you could get full from just two! The corn tortillas are made in house, which is awesome for me! They are larger than normal breakfast tacos, measuring about 6-7" in diameter. They come one to a taco, which I also like! (I'm not a fan of the double tortilla thing... I usually just take them apart anyway!). At $1.85 for two fillings, you could easily be full for under $5! I ordered a migas breakfast taco, a sausage egg and cheese, and a chorizo (they use real meat, not SOY) taco and there was no way I could finish all three (which was a bummer because they were so good!). Great breakfast tacos! You choose from a list of ingredients and you choose your tortilla (flour, wheat or white corn). The tacos are pretty stuffed, freshly made and really delicious. Quick service too. You know how some places just slop the ingredients in without much care? Joe's isn't like that. We got 2 four-ingredient tacos and one breakfast burrito and the bill was $8.62! You really can't beat that. I asked how long they've been open...a year and a half but under new management since June. Good food at a great price. Definitely come here for the lunch special. The food is well prepared and delivered to your table in a very reasonable amount of time, so it's great if you have an hour break to go out and eat. The complimentary salsa served with chips was very tasty and the chips seem to be from a bag, but are warmed up before being served, so I didn't complain. For lunch, I had cheese enchiladas and my friend had chicken fajitas. The cheese enchiladas were served with a tomatillo sauce that was sour, but worked with the cheese. The chicken fajitas were well cooked and the waitress came by to ask if we wanted more tortillas for it, which I thought was a really nice gesture. The service was friendly, fast and efficient. We never had a second when our drinks or our chips and salsa weren't full. The decor of the place was very tasteful and wasn't overly gaudy like some Mexican restaurants can be. When I saw how well-rated they were on Yelp I knew I had to try them! My order arrived well in advance of the specified time and the driver was pleasant and polite. Found this place by accident because it's kinda hidden and hard to see/find...the seating and ordering process isn't exactly clear for first timers. FYI: when you walk in, go to the counter, place your order, pay and then take a seat - they will bring your food to you when it's ready. It's a small good looking resturant. The outside doesn't do the inside justice. They serve Pepsi fountain drinks which is awesome and canned Coke products. Way better than the competition's RC Cola. I picked the chili rellano which was cheese filled like I remember it. I hate tex mex. Most places have hand made tortillas to save on costs. This place makes them in the name of authenticity. Solid lunch spot. Tortillas are soft and warm and the tacos are pretty tasty. I got chicken fajita tacos which were simple but filling and I left feeling pretty satisfied. My wife and I buy our corn tortillas from here and take them home, some of the best in town. We bought gorditos tonight and since we had a long drive home they packaged everything separately which was really nice. We did not even warm them up after a 30 minute drive home and they were the best we have ever had. NOTE: We have tasted some of the best in Texas and Mexico and even after the drive they were the best we ever had. Better than 5 star. I stopped in about a year ago because I was in the area and needed tacos- I'm so sad I haven't been coming here along! The bacon/egg/avocado is my favorite, especially since they are now doing homemade corn tortillas. They cook the bacon into the eggs, it's a nice change of pace from the piece of burnt bacon I feel like I get when I order tacos anywhere else. The price is great and the tacos are big, so it's my new regular place for breakfast tacos. What really makes Tex-Mex Joe's stand out is the friendliness of Marco, the owner.
