Stopped in on a Tuesday evening at 8:15 with my 13 year old son. We are newer to the area and wanted to give it a try. We were greeted and asked how many, to which I replied "two". The greeter stepped away for a couple seconds into the kitchen and a male returned and said he could not seat us because they were closing soon. When I looked at the time, I said "Sir, it is 40 minutes before you close". He said they had to start shutting down the kitchen and cleaning up so it was done by 9pm. I was surprised (and a little annoyed because I was hungry), so I asked if he was a supervisor or manager. He said he was not and I asked him to kindly go get the person who was. When the female approached, she indicated this was not her normal location and said I should not have been told that we couldn't be seated. She was apologetic, but also passed it off as it wasn't her restaurant & she was filling in. We politely declined the offer to be seated and went to Miner-Dunn and had a great experience. Maybe we'll give it another shot down the road, but we'll be sure to stop in a good two hours before closing time. read more

We did a mini road trip to Indiana, over the weekend, and decided to stop here for dinner. I was in the mood for a steak of some sort. When you walk in, it's similar to a Lone Star or Texas Roadhouse in decor and menu offerings. They have shelled peanuts on the table, so if you have allergies, stay away. Ryan, our server, was excellent! Very friendly, funny, helpful and quick. I ordered the 10 oz, Prime Rib. I should have taken a picture of it. I ordered it medium rare, but it came out more medium well. I decided not to say anything about it. Even though I prefer it medium rare, I don't mind it over done, either. Maybe because it was cooked more than what I'm used to, it didn't look as appetizing, but the flavor, consistency and the au jus were good and it had very little fat. Got a baked potato with it, which was nothing special. So service was excellent, food was good, but nothing to write home about. What I will mention is their bathrooms are pretty jacked up. Not only are the stalls small and you have to back up and straddle the toilet seat in order to open and close the door, but when you wash your hands, you have to go back around by the stalls to throw out your paper towel from drying your hands. If there is one other person in the bathroom with you, (which it's a 3 stall bathroom) you're going to be doing a dance with them as you wash and dry your hands. Really awkward bathroom. I'll hold it next time.. but seeing as I don't live near this restaurant, I probably won't be going back, just due to distance. But if you're reading this, I say give it a try if you're looking for a decent dinner but don't need your socks blown off. read more

We were just here and my husband raves about the bread and cinnamon butter, which I'm not a big fan of. Our waitress, Jennifer was really nice and sweet. Everyone there was in good spirits (for being the eve of Christmas Eve) and having a fun time with each other and their customers. My husband got the prime rib and fries (with salad) and he loved it. He said it was cooked perfectly and the mushrooms tasted great. I had The Dip (Italian beef sandwich) and fries. It was really good (the bread had the perfect amount of crunch to it.) Here I enjoy the soups of chicken jumbo and black bean. The basket of bread is so sweet and the cinnamon butter calms my nerves and chills my bones. The Mason glasses are very cool and its so nice and quiet there in the mid day. Oh and I wrote this review only to add that the cut up carrot bits in the raw were the best thing to find in the black been soup. Thank you! What a cool surprise and a nice touch of uniqueness. Some Lettuce in Salad was brown and "squishy" as described by bartender who was receptive to the feedback when I pointed it out and a little bewildered when I asked about the steak patties I received as a 9oz filet. Went here for dinner with the family. First off, the place was really busy which is usually a good sign. This is almost identical to any Texas Roadhouse type of restaurant. They have buckets of peanuts that you can eat and throw the shells on the floor. When you are seated, you also get a basket of hot sweet bread with cinnamon butter. Those two together are great - maybe the best part of the dinner. Additionally, they serve you soda in biog mason jars which is a nice touch. The atmosphere is nice. Its cozy. Definitely not fancy, but nice for a family dinner. The food was average to below average. It's really nothing special. They have steaks and ribs, etc. The food was nothing spectacular though. The prices reflect that - very very reasonable with nothing that I can remember being over $20. The service was the biggest downside to our experience. Our server was ridiculously inattentive. She didn't get us anything we asked for and never cleared a plate. We still had salad plates all over the table when our dinner was brought out by another person. She was quite bad - it was as if we were forgotten. If our service had been better, this would have gotten one more stars for the nice atmosphere and the cheap food. It was just horrible service. Just a review from a average guy; Miserable experience just miserable . The poor waitress didn't have any direction in her performance tonight . She seemed like a nice girl but her ability to be attentive to her details was lacking tonight . I had a cheese burger cause First impression that night after the burnt buns was that anything else could be a stretch for them to cook. The food looked bland and tasted as though it was just a frozen patty no more than a few minutes ago. When I want steak, this place is my choice. The huge jar-shaped glasses of Mountain Dew you bring me will kill me one day, but odds are I'll keep drinking them as long as you keep refilling them. (Just let me at least get halfway done with one before you bring a refill though -- the refill time on those is insane LOL.) Salads are very good too. Also, if there's a way to suppress the noise of air hockey in the game room, that'd be great. We waited for about 15 minutes to be sat, which is to be expected during COVID. We began with the Texas Flower. It arrived a little longer than I thought it would. It was barely warm and lacked seasoning. My wife's chicken dumpling soup arrived shortly afterward and it is more like a stew consistency than a soup. It had a weird spice in it that neither of us cared for so it was skipped. My fajitas arrived not sizzling, but hot. There was only a tablespoon if that of cheese non the set. It was tasty and fresh though. The wife had the buffalo chicken sandwich which she said was mushy. She did not finish that either. Service was a little slow also as I did not get a refill on my beverage until I was done with my meal. We have not been to this location before we usually go to the one in merrillville. Our family was dying of hunger and we knew exactly where to come. Well not tonight. Service wasn't up to par and the food was over cooked. Ordered a medium burger and it came back well done. Ordered a medium well steak and I'm surprised the smoke alarm didn't come on. It was weeeeeeeeell done. Now the kicker.. our kid bit into a piece of glass that was left inside the bowl. He was happily eating his max pro I and cheese and boom.. he's like like hey I taste blood and I think I but my gums. I said that's impossible let me see.. there it was. Glass in his mouth and glass inside the macaroni and cheese bowl. We quickly informed the waitress. She informed her manager. What if he would have swallowed that!? Manager paid for his food and my wife's meal. I would think that the whole meal for the party would have been paid for. I'm outraged and will most likely never eat here again. This place might be really awesome to you or it might be totally disgusting to you. Why? Well, because they give you peanuts, and they encourage you to throw the shells all over the floor. I'm not exaggerating here either, there's peanuts everywhere, all over the floor of the restaurant. I think that's supposed to give it the home feel of Texas, like a Texas bar or something, but I'm not sure. Now, I remember thinking that it was awesome that you could throw something on the floor in a restaurant without getting reprimanded or kicked out. I've had two different people tell me though, that they think that's really gross that there's shells on the floor. So, it's not ideal in everyone's eyes, but it's kind of like a trademark thing there I think, so I don't know. The food is good, I don't recall it being anything special, but I remember liking it, and being full when I left. They mainly have steaks and burgers. We went to this restaurant this past Sunday for an early dinner. We sat for about 7 minutes and had to finally grab a manager to ask for a server. Our server seemed to be in another world. Had no idea how to take an order. There were 2 couples in our party. Server took the guys orders before the ladies orders. Food was awful. Baked potatoes ice cold, mashed potatoes cold. Server didn't apologize, just took potatoes away, came a few minutes later with lukewarm potatoes. Steak tough. Salmon dry, chicken greasy. Server apparently had never served before. Great Fried Shrimp!!! In the past my family would eat here all the time, graduations, mothers day, fathers day, birthdays...you name the occasion we ate here. I guess after awhile the folks got tired of this place so I've only eaten here twice within the past two years. They have a diverse menu, reasonable prices and good food. Only two things that annoy me, well only one for me and one for my boyfriend. So thru out the restaurant they have huge barrels of peanuts, they encourage the patrons to indulge in the peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. I think its kinda cool, especially if you have a whole lot of kids (which we don't have, but my god kids love it), it will definitely keep them entertained. However, my boyfriend isn't thrilled with the whole peanut thing. My only little thing is that i asked for fruit punch with my meal. Thinking i was getting Hawaiian punch or something like it, I mention to my bf that it tastes like Kool-aid. Well we get our receipt and lo and behold it says "Fruit Punch Kool-aid"!!!!!!! Started with the blooming onion, it was cut so thick that the onion was crunchy...I ordered the Louisiana shrimp and ribs.first of all the membrane was still on the ribs and they had a really strange taste. .the "jumbo"shrimp was all breading..and had no flavor...they brought me a new set of ribs and they were worse than the first. My family has not been to Texas Corral in quite sometime. Tonight we went there because we wanted to sit down for dinner; however, one of the kids had a flight to catch. Our whole party was there and we were waiting for fifteen minutes and had not even been approached by anyone. I asked who I thought was a waiter but turned out to be manager, Brian. He turned what could have been a bad situation into a wonderful dining experience. Kudos to Brian who was so attentive, and apologetic for our wait. We made it to the airport in time.
