As part of the revitalized uptown district, Texas de Brazil is nestled among Todd English P.U.B, Octane Coffee, Cantina Laredo and Mugshots. TdB is a chain fine dining Brazilian steakhouse with locations throughout the United States including Alabama, California, Colorado, DC, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, etc. They even have locations in Aruba, Mexico and South Korea. They are marketed as an upscale eatery highlighting their all-you-can-eat grilled meat cooked Brazillian style with the "spirit" of Texas. They also feature an extensive salad bar with gourmet vegetables (mushrooms, green beans, brussel sprouts), soups (lobster bisque), rice, beans, fish, smoked salmon and salads. This was just lunch. For dinner there are even more items. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with high ceilings and large windows. There are many tables scattered throughout with large exclusive tables for parties. I called a few days before and reserved a reservation for 8 to celebrate my son's graduation. Our server Emma was fantastic. She brought us garlic mashed potatoes and grilled plantains to cleanse our palates. You turn a card the size of a drink coaster over from red to green indicating that you are ready for the main course and the show begins. Servers approach you with beef, veal, pork, and chicken where they carve the meat for you tableside. Remember it is all you can eat, so pace yourself. My favorite were the garlic sirloin (DWD!) and bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. The beef was seasoned, grilled perfectly and melts in your mouth! Lunch prices are almost half of dinner. For dinner you get many more items on the salad bar in addition to more meat choices. As with any fine dining restaurant, they carry a nice compliment of wines to enjoy with your meal. They also have wonderful desserts but they are a la carte and not included in the price of the all-you-can-eat. You can not only enjoy deliciously cooked food, but you can eat as much of it until they close. My family and I had a great time. Emma was attentive and always available. We enjoyed our dinner there! Online would only let me reserve a table for four, so I wrote in the comments that we had five. Apparently they don't read the comments where it asks if there are any special needs. If you have anything you need them to know you need to actually call them since they don't read those comments. It took a really long time to get drink refills. We asked two different people and probably waited 15 minutes, I'm a server so I try to be super patient with servers and understanding, but because I'm a server, I also realize it shouldn't take that long and you shouldn't need to ask two different people to get just a simple drink refill. Some of the meats were over cooked, which seems odd since they specifically tell you that the meat is going to be medium rare and ask you if that is good with you. That is perfect for us, which is how we love it! However, the fillet was mostly well done, and that's just not how we enjoy steak. We were there celebrating a graduation, and no one mentioned that at all. Again, why would you ask during the reservation process if you were celebrating anything, and then not even mention it. We went to Texas de Brazil and expected the Green means Go treatment like other Brazilian Steakhouses we have been to, around the country. Unfortunately green meant No Go! We sat and waited for meat but they never came around, or they would skip our table and go to the next. I even put the GREEN on my forehead and still nobody stopped by to bring the meats! Thankfully there was a salad bar otherwise we would have left more hungry than we arrived. Thanks to our wonderful waitress, Kelsey, she realized when we asked for the check, that something was wrong. So she asked her manager, Kylie to come talk to us. We explained what was going on and she apologized profusely. She also made things right, and turned a horrible dinner into a not so horrible dinner. As a chef that's what makes a huge difference in a restaurant, the staff who show they care. To all the upper management at Texas de Brazil in Birmingham, these two should be highly commended. My partner took me to Texas de Brazil for my birthday. I've been before so knew what to expect. Unfortunately I watched as other diners got premium cuts brought to their tables and we were ignored. We had to have a manager send another cut to our table. We waited about 10-15 minutes in between meat offerings being brought to our table despite having our tokens set on green and empty plates and literally watching other tables get more than a half dozen meats brought to their tables in the same timespan. My family and I arrived shortly after they opened last night and were told there would be a 2 hr wait. I wasn't too suprised since it was a Saturday, prom, and there was a concert happening nearby all in one night. Our wait ended up being less than an hour, but I would suggest booking a reservation ahead of time if you can. They do have a ton of seating available outside in case you do have to wait for a table though. My mom and I ordered a couple caipirinhas to hold us over until it was time to be seated & I was a bit sticker shocked when my bill was $27 for 2 cocktails, but we enjoyed them nonetheless. I did notice they have a happy hour on the weekdays from 4:30-6:00pm where the caipirinhas are only $5. Our server, Chris, really made our dinner a great experience. He was personable, friendly, and one of the best servers I've had in a while. He went above and beyond during our entire meal and we really felt taken care of. In comparison to other Brazilian steakhouses with the same AYCE concept that I've been to in other cities, Texas De Brazil definitely doesn't top the list, but it is the only one in Birmingham and I'm glad they're here! Let's start by saying not my first time here!! The reason I keep coming back the service, the food, the staff are all excellent. We had two birthdays in our party and they made it awesome!! Managers close and attentive to service as well as servers and the meat guys faster than I can eat and that's saying something. Love this place can't get enough of it. I've heard so many good things about Texas de Brazil and I've been dying to try it. A friend recommended I not eat much throughout the day prior to the meal, and I can see why!! This Brazilian style steakhouse doesn't serve meals like your typical restaurant. There is a large "salad bar" in the middle of the dining area, although I'd hardly say there's much in the way of a traditional salad on it. You can find everything on it from gourmet cheeses, hummus, cold salmon and shrimp, artichoke hearts, peppers, and more. Lobster bisque was the soup of the day and it was tasty but salty. Salty was actually kind of the theme of the entire meal! The meat, of course, was the star of the meal. Servers walk around with skewers of meat and slice them off right there at the table. We tried a little of everything, and my favorites were the lamb, the Parmesan chicken, and the garlic sirloin. They only meat I wasn't impressed with was the Parmesan pork because it was over cooked and dry. The rest, though, was incredible! All the beef was cooked medium rare (but you can request it different ways) and everything was juicy and incredible. I had a Brazilian passion fruit cocktail and a dessert martini, and we ordered the creme brûlée for dessert. The creme brûlée was great, with a slight citrus flavor to it. Definite Redemption for Texas De Brazil of Birmingham tonight. Only issue is consistency. Food was wonderful tonight even though we had to wait a bit longer for it to really get flowing. Drinks were very good, and salad bar as usual was on point (although still missing salami and a few other small things from the bar) they recently added what tastes like pork to their black beans.. and it is a resounding YUM. The customer service at this establishment is completely inappropriate and disrespectful. My boyfriend and I were walk-ins because we were unable to make a reservation on OpenTable and they did not answer their phone when we called multiple times. The host (who was very standoff-ish and rude) told us that it would be a 2 hour wait and made a reservation for us. We waited for TWO hours across the street and finally got the text saying our table was ready. We confirmed in the text that we were on the way and got to the restaurant in less than five minutes. The host then told us that our table was already taken, which made no sense because we literally got the text message five minutes ago. She had a smug look on her face and didn't seem to care, so we asked for a manager. The manager came over and instead of apologizing, she told us that that's how their policy is and we were supposed to wait in the restaurant for the 2 hours until our table was ready (even though there is no waiting area!!!). She then asked us if we had a reservation or if we were walk-ins as if that mattered. If you put us on your waiting list and told us our table was ready, we should have gotten our table. Nobody told us that we were supposed to stay inside the restaurant, nobody apologized to us, and the manager was very condescending and rude. I would 100% NOT recommend this place to anybody if you care about good and fair customer service. This place is very chiche. Nice ambiance, sulty decor, surprisingly spacious. I came here with friends to unwind and casually talk about general things as it's the end of the year. TdB is very inviting and the host was very nice. We were sat at our table in less than 10 minutes as my friend made reservations prior. The initial server was quick and friendly with the explanation of how everything works with the table coasters of basically red light/green light. Flip it green to have people serve you, flip it red to not receive anything. We helped ourselves to the cool salad bar and it's definitely a step up from your typical Ruby Tuesday bar. Exotic items and nothing processed which is great for me since this place is kind of on the expensive side. The hot bar was nice with the soup being lobster bisque, black beans, rice, mofongo fish, and a few other items. The meat selection was great from lamb to steak to chicken among other meats. They cook/serve you your temperature (where applicable) and always courteous. Be mindful they are quick so your plate can be overloaded in a hurry. The beer I had was xingu black beer which is one of the best beers of my life. So smooth and silky. The dessert was very decadent and delicious. All and all, I'll be back again. What a disappointing experience this evening.m was. We have dined here 4 times and each experience was 5 star until this evening. We arrived on time for our 6:00 reservation. My mother-in-law is 89 years old on a Walker. We helped navigate her into the restaurant and the hostess made us stand there about 10 minutes, waiting for our husbands who were parking our car, before she would seat us. Our table was ready and we could have had our mom seated. The server seemed very overwhelmed by too many tables. We think they were understaffed because our server Matt, did not bring our drinks for quite some time after ordering, nor the sides to Our table while the meats were being served. We had to ask for the sides to be brought out. No used plates were picked up off our table during our dinner. The gauchos were having a challenge finding a spot on the table, to slice the meats, due to no table service. Matt, our server, kept telling us he was very busy with a larger table of guests and couldn't get to us. The food was delicious as always, customer service was not at all on par. We hope customer service will improve before we return. We had hoped for the great customer experience we have had in past visits because this was our family's first experience here. My favorite items on the salad bar were: - Shrimp Salad - the marinated shrimp had a great flavor and the slices of fresh jalapeno added just the right spiciness. - California Rolls - freshly rolled, and the pieces were the perfect size. - Antipasto Salad - great variety of olives, artichokes, peppers, and onions. The prosciutto was excellent. - Sautéed Mushrooms - they were fantastic. The grilled meats were fabulous, and my favorites were the beef cuts. - The flank steak was salty, tender, and full of flavor. - The filet mignon was awesome. It cut like butter and was juicy and tasty. - Two types of picanha were served. Picanha is rump roast and is also known as top sirloin cap. The cap is thin layer of fat that enhances the meat. We tried both preparations, the traditional Brazilian Picanha and the Garlic Picanha. Both were outstanding. The outside slices were salty from the rock salt preparation. The meats were cooked medium rare, and they were perfectly tender. - I also tried the Brazilian sausage (okay, but not special) and pork loin (a little dry). The signature cocktail is the Caipirinha. It is made with a rum-like liquor, sugarcane, and lime. It is basically the Brazilian version of the mojito. It was strong and good. The wait staff was very attentive. The interactive nature of the theme was sometimes a bit obtrusive. Our dinner conversation was often interrupted by the meat servers. I would recommend strategically flipping the placard to control the interruptions and pace. Lindsey was our waitress and she did a good job. After trying very hard not to fill my plate with fillers (ha!), I headed back to the table. Like other Brazilian-style steakhouses, each diner is given a green/red card. When you want the gaucho to stop by, green side up. When you're taking a break, red side up. My waiter brought me a second plate and then it was time to go green. Bacon-wrapped filet mignons, pieces of chicken, sausages, rump roast, lamb chops, and my favorite, the flank steak. Sliced right there onto your plate and ready to go. Mmmmm... I ate a bunch! This was my first visit to Texas de Brazil/first time at a Brazilian steakhouse. We were celebrating a graduation, so I made reservations ahead of time. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation, and were immediately seated. Our waiter explained how service worked, and went over the expansive salad bar. He took our drink orders (I ordered a water and a caipirinha). My boyfriend and I headed over to the salad bar, and while I could have made a meal out of the selections, I took my bf's advice and chose very carefully. Wanted to save plenty of room for the main course! The lobster bisque was delicious.. slightly cold, but still good. We were seated near the "grilling area", so we were the first stop when the servers headed out with their protein. Man oh Man! What delicious food! I enjoyed everything, though if I had to pick my least favorite, it would be the sausage. My favorites were the filet mignon, the lamb chops, and brazilian picanha/garlic picanha. But back to my drink - we were nearly halfway through eating our meals before my drink arrived. Our server apologized profusely, but it really wasn't his fault... the fault of the bartender. The experience of visiting Texas de Brazil was somewhat like uncorking a bottle of expensive wine, you have to give it some time to get better. Service experience: Although it started off on a low note, it ended on a high one. At the beginning, our servers were nowhere to be found and although I have been to similar places before, nobody cared to explain how the concept of a Brazilian steakhouse works to the rest of the guests. As the crowd died down, the service improved. The waiter was more attentive, but we got the sides brought to the table halfway through the meal. Even poured the last bottle into a decanter. The night ended wonderfully, as the experience was handled directly at the bar, with their manager pouring shots of belvedere and chacaça aneja. The meal: Spectacular, all around. Some of the best meats and marinades I've ever had in a Brazilian steakhouse and they can easily compete or even be better than Fogo de Chao and Chama Gaucha. Would have been nice if they offered to bring some authentic sauces, but it was great either way. Salad bar: Salad bar is on the basic end of things, not as extensive or extravagant as other Brazilian steakhouses, but everything was fresh and for the price, I can't complain. Texas de Brazil is good, and they boast many different meats for dinner but I always have the same 3 or 4 types that make they but if you have specific meat you want... be prepared to wait for it to make its way to your table (if it ever makes it out). Now if you love sausage or Parmesan chicken, then you'll be happy! When you sit down, the servers ask you your preferred temperature and if there's a particular cut of meat you like. I'm convinced that they ask that for show - because I always still end up having to repeatedly request for the specific meat and temperature I'd like to be delivered. And once they do finally bring the meat to you, it's a toss up for sure on whether the meat will be cooked to the requested temperature. This place is great, if a bit pricey. Luckily we went on a night where they were having a 50% deal. My GF treated me out as a celebration, and I picked this place. I had been before, she had not. Let's start with the salad & soup bar. Right away, there is a ton of options presented, and you could easily get full just from it. My favorites were the lobster bisque, sauteed mushrooms, and the imported Italian meats and cheeses. For those who have never been, once you sit down, servers will come by your table and offer meats to you depending on if you have your indicator turned to green (yes - more food) or red (not any more at the moment). We had lamb, steak, sausages, pork tenderloin, etc. It was all great. My favorites of these were the Parmesan-Crusted Pork Loin, the Lamb Chops, Garlic Picanha, and the Filet Mignon Wrapped in Bacon. While I enjoyed them medium rare to medium, I did appreciate that they would cook it more if requested, they just asked for notice/prep time so that they could have it done properly for those who requested it. We finished up our meals with a Chocolate Mousse Cake that was comped by our waiter since we were out celebrating. We could not finish the cake and ended up taking it home with us. YOOOOO!! You've got to plan your next big family dinner or night on the town to be at this spot! First, let me put a disclaimer that I visited this restaurant during the COVID-19 pandemic and will address that, but just in case you were wondering: I didn't go during a "normal" time (whatever that means at this point) Obviously, you go to a restaurant for the food, but I've ALWAYS believed that good dining is an EXPERIENCE and not just about your plate. The guest experience here was really great for me, especially considering that it was my birthday. Our waitress was amazing and knew all about the menu and even gave us her own special recommendations. While they were running a little behind on the reservations, it didn't ruin my experience at all. Walking into the restaurant, you see the "meat gauchos" carrying sticks of tasty-looking meat and you just get excited about what you'll be eating that night. That's a really cool moment I remember having and it definitely contributed to a wonderful and unique experience. Also, the meat gauchos are the MVPs because they are constantly going around this restaurant making sure that everyone is fed and has meat on their plate! If you're wondering exactly how it works- your server will ask what types of meats you want at your table, and they'll come! It's really that simple. They'll bring them in rotations and offer different cuts as the night goes on so you're getting to eat all the offerings of pork, lamb, chicken, and steak! Notably, at one point during the night, I felt that I had hit a "meat wall" and one of the servers didn't approach our table because they could tell I needed to wait for the next round; so, the servers aren't in your face and can read the room on when to come to your table! Can't forget about the food dude! All the meats were seasoned so nicely and the texture of the meat showed they had been cooked properly. We asked for our meats to be medium-well and medium, and I didn't have to chew too long on my meat which meant they were cooked right! You can ease your worries about spending thirty seconds eating a piece of meat. My personal favs were the cuts of filet mignon and the herb-marinated pork loin- but all were great, so definitely try all the offerings. The meats were generally pretty moist with special highlights going to the juices coming out of the steak and lamb as they were put on my plate. One part of the meal that I don't think gets the hype it deserves are the palette cleansers. Look, you're going to be eating a lot of juicy meat, which is great... But there comes a point when you need to "reset" your taste buds. Having a neutral dish is essential because you want the flavor of the meat to hit you the same way every time, and resetting your taste buds with mashed potatoes or some fries is a great way to do that. The mashed potatoes and fried bananas were really good on their own and I constantly found myself cleansing my pallet with them as the night progressed. Shout out to those items because I wouldn't have made it through the night without them. The salad bar was also really cool. They literally have so many items for you to pick from it's impressive. Sliced bell peppers, shrimp, soup, and fresh arugula are just some of the seemingly endless items on the bar. I will say, I was a little confused as to why, during a pandemic, it was still "self-serve." If I could make one suggestion, it would be to temporarily stop self-service as it would make me feel better about my hygiene and I'm sure other guests as well! Nice job on their part for having a bottle of hand sanitizer before you enter the salad bar... but maybe let's just wait this one out. The drink we had was a mango infused limeade. I would recommend getting this if you're fine with a little bit of sweetness; if not you could always go for a different drink or good ol' H2O. I just turned 18 so I sadly have no comments on the wine or bar experience . I feel like all the above comments could apply to a non-COVID scenario. Here are my COVID comments! I prefer outdoor seating whenever possible now, so I was a little on edge by having to sit indoors. Luckily, I was able to call ahead and request a table in a corner and they were very accommodating! Also, tables are spread out very nicely. All of the servers and staff wear masks and whenever you move around the restaurant, you're required to wear a mask- great stuff!! I think this restaurant handles operating in a pandemic really well! Final thoughts: Go here! I would say this is more of a "once every couple of months" type of restaurant mainly because of the price tag and also because eating that much meat in one sitting should only occur once in a while! I came here for a belated Valentine's Day dinner on Saturday evening. I made a reservation beforehand and we were promptly seated (despite being late). We were circling around looking for some street parking because we didn't want to pay to park in the lot, but after a few unsuccessful circles around Uptown we gave in and turned into the lot. Turned out it was free that night! Score! My boyfriend and I each ordered drinks (he got the Manhattan which was VERY strong). I got the strawberry Capirinha (flavor as per recommendation of our server Ike). My drink was good, but didn't stand out in particular. I was super excited about the salad bar, and if I were to come back, I'd just go for the salad bar. I loved the cured salmon, marinated shrimp, mushrooms and other vegetables. The lobster bisque was disappointing at best. It tasted like warm cream and cheese and had no lobster/other flavor. I did enjoy the filet mignon and the lamb chops, but most of the other meat was excessively salty and tough. I give a 4 star rating as an average of good service, ambiance and decent food. We came here for our anniversary. The server was fine. The bartender was a manager who clearly didn't bartend regular. The drinks were not great and neither was the food. I expected a nicer restaurant. The meat selection seemed limited. Lots of pork! The Brazilian sausage was delicious. When we first sat down they brought us a safe bowl of crinkle French fries and cheese rolls. However we had no silverware or napkins. WOW! This experience is my first, and what an experience it was! Being the foodie I am, I have never heard of Texas de Brazil (basically, an extremely well put together buffet style restaurant full of the finest foods!) and my date asked that I not review anything about the restaurant, as she wants to be the first to see/ hear my thoughts. So, I abide by her wishes and here I am sharing my thoughts with my fellow Yelpers! The ambiance is amazing! Large pillars, fine dining lighting, awesome bar drinks, a chef present at the cold and hot bar, just overall a wonderful dining experience! Our server was very prompt. Every time we left the table to get more of the delicious cold/hot bar, we would return with our napkins folded, and fresh drinks on the table! The bartender was getting her butt kicked but she was very friendly and proficient at getting the drinks out; to both the people waiting to be sat at a table to the servers putting in orders. I had the house Chardonnay. It was good but not the best choice. The better choice would be one of the flavored mixed drinks! The food is excellent!!! If there is a cheese you prefer with your meal, they have it! Everything from goat cheese to brie! They have a very bare garden... lettuce, tomatoes, croutons... If you are vegan or a vegetarian, you are out of luck as there is not much options in this regard! This venue is definately a meat lovers dream!!! Bacon wrapped chicken, pork, lamb, steak, and roast beef is the meat you will find... the meat is not on the hot bar! Which is awesome! In fact, there are servers walking around with large skewers of meat. If you want more meat, put your token on green. If you are done being served meat, but your token on red. It's that easy! Green means more, red means no more! The cold bar has a variety of options from cold asparagus, shrimp, cold meats like salami, brochette, etc. whole garlic gloves, variety of cheeses, different breads, and a few different salad dressings. The hot bar changes often but I had fish with rice, potatoes, and lobster bisque soup. Overall a great experience! It is rather expensive but it is well worth it! The air conditioner was not working on the night we went. The service was adequate but the servers acted like they didn't want to be there. The meat was tough and the beef tenderloin was over cooked and dry. The salad bar was ok but not chilled enough. The lobster soup was terrible and could t eat it. The plantains they served at the table was good. I think it was just a off night for them and since the air wasn't working well. I guess that didn't help. But I won't be going back. We were there a few day and thought we had to try. Didn't take any pics because we were just trying to get through it all. The sangria was good but you have to purchase the bottle of wine which was around 50.00. For that I wouldn't recommend. read more

This place is nice. I enjoy the idea of being constantly served different meats. The meats were so delicious! My favorites were the steak and lamp. Cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The lobster bisque is delicious and the salad options are wonderful. It's very high so I would definitely not eat anything before coming so that you can get your money's worth.
