I came here with a few co workers last night. It was very crowded but we only waited 15 minutes. There was a big bin of peanuts to snack from and shells every where. Every table had a bucket of peanuts as well. We got seated and eventually helped. Our server was busy and didn't seem to be all there. At one point he asked if we wanted more bread. We never got bread to begin with. For my meal, it came with 2 sides but neither were what I ordered. I had ordered a side salad and mashed potatoes. I got a bowl of mushrooms and a baked potato. I hate mushrooms. The server apologized that it was his fault. At this point I said not to even bother with a side. My co worker joked they should give me an apple crisp dessert on the side. The server said he couldn't do that but could give me applesauce. What?? No. I did not want applesauce, I wanted to get a salad prior to my meal. Anyway, a disappointment. There is a reason Texas Roadhouse is at the top of my go to list for restaurants. Today was proof. Stopped in for lunch and sat at the bar (as I often do). I was greeted at the door, greeted at the bar and got my drink right away w/ bread fresh from the oven. Food was delicious as it always is. Steak was perfectly cooked and sides were delicious. I even ordered a couple to-go orders for co-workers. Love that they are open for lunch on Fridays. Always appreciate the exceptional service you get sitting at the bar and Buzz did a fabulous job of taking care of me and all the other customers at the bar. Great job Buzz!! Well, another thing just got added to my list of certainties in life... Taxes, death and a bad meal at Texas Roadhouse. I did not want to go back but I was stranded without a car for a night so I went to the restaurant I could walk to, against my better judgement. If possible the place plays music louder than it did the first time I went... I don't go to a restaurant for deafening music - this was insane. The chili is still excellent, but the beef tips (recommended by the server) were dry, over cooked and swimming in an uninspiring gravy. Three for three on the "worst meal of the year" list. Went to this establishment after work with a few friends. I can honestly say that it was the best service I have received in a very long time. Our waiter, Micah, was easily one of the best servers I have ever had. I would recommend this to each and every person I know. It was very busy and he was able to keep extraordinary service. It was my husband's first visit to Texas Roadhouse. It was a weekend night...but we were readily seated and was amazed at the length of time we waited for our food...it was less than like 10 minutes. The service was impeccable...the waiter was courteous, returned to our table several times to see if we needed anything. The food was excellent...the steaks grilled to perfection. The hot rolls were hot and the honey butter melted immediately on contact...they were scrumptious. My only concern was the volume of the music...it was hard to have any type of conversation. We called an hour ahead of time, but we're the last to get seated in the whole place, and when we finally did get sat, we got sat at a table with margarita glasses on it that was clearly still dirty. This place has the best steaks hands down. I won't get steak anywhere else. The sides are always hot and yummy. My only complaint is the noise. The music is way too loud, and I can do without the dancing as I'm sure the staff could too. The servers are always awesome, accommodating, and friendly. I love me some Texas Roadhouse always have pleasant experience but last night me and my family came to the restaurant in urbandale and I ordered the Fort Worth ribeye and ribs combo with the cactus blossom app and first my steak was so bloody when I told them medium well twice they brought back I returned I told them forgot the steak I just eat my ribs and the waiter rolled his eyes at me and than the app was so greasy and soggy it ruin my whole meal I was very disappointed read more

Been here many times. The food is always great. Steaks were slightly more done than ordered but still wonderful. For some reason it was really hot in the restaurant today we were sweating while eating. Had a wonderful time celebrating a birthday. The normal volume for these restaurants that makes it hard to have conversations. I still love the roadhouse and always love the bread and cinnamon butter!! read more

This used to be my favorite restaurant chain before tonight. We get to TRH in Urbandale right at 8:00 and we're told it was going to be 30 minutes to get in. We reminded them that we did have a young girl in a wheelchair so we would need to be accommodated for that. We were told it was no problem and they will get us in. We were not seated for an hour minimum. We were crammed in the back of the restaurant and when we finally did get a server she took our order and came back 10 minutes later and gleefully told me they were out of prime rib but she will get me a ribeye instead. Let me be clear, THIS WAS 9:00 pm on a FRIDAY night. The restaurant closes at 11:00 and was out of prime rib 2 hours before close. Our server was rotten the food was slapped together and the atmosphere was like everyone was going through the motions. I would not recommend this backwards thinking restaurant to anyone. They can't even hire a chef who misses the forecast on the high side. I know I know what if you cook a few extra prime rib you might waste a few pieces or heaven for it a whole loin. I am pretty confident an excel spreadsheet with the history of how many orders were sold on Friday's is readily available. My once a week eatery will be something else going forward. I'm sick and tired of being let down by this chain. read more

Best service and food hand down in the Desmoines area. If you want the hands down best expereince you have to ask for Andi as your waitress! Andi really takes care of each customer like her best freind and adds a special flavor to the roadhouse expereince. The atmosphere is always a homelike experience, it's definitely an All-American restaurant. The food was okay. The group I was with stated that their rib dinner and steak was cooked to perfection, however, the catfish dinner I ordered tasted soggy. It was breaded, the breading was soggy instead of crispy. The dinner rolls are so good that I could take the rolls home and eat them daily! We came in on a Saturday at 4:30 and were seated immediately. We came in a party for a family member. One of my favorite places! I always order the pulled pork with the baked potato. We order the onion blossom as the appetizer. The food is always hot and I'm obsessed with the baked potato. It comes with good cheese, sour cream, bacon bits and butter. Terrible for you, I know. The staff is always nice. The rolls they give you when you come in with the buttered cinnamon are awesome! I always take extras home. The only downfall is they need another one, this place is always busy. My boyfriend and I decided to go to Texas Roadhouse last minute for New Years Eve. I downloaded their app and was able to get on the waiting list which was neat! Their wait time was about an hour and a half which was perfect for us. When we arrived, we barely waited five minutes to be seated. Things were hectic, however, I've never seen a Texas Roadhouse NOT be hectic, so it was expected. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. Everything came out in a timely fashion and it was delicious! To be completely honest, I wasn't expecting great service because of the day, but I was pleasantly surprised. Prices are right, food was good, but don't go after 9. Waitresses sweep like there is no tomorrow and then the sneezing starts. I'm sure the food tastes a little different as well. The main reason I go to Texas Roadhouse is to eat the hot rolls and sweet potato with marshmallow and caramel sauce. I have tried all of their steaks, grilled shrimp, BBQ chicken, pork chops, ribs, and fried cat fish. Their steaks are okay. They do a good job with grilled shrimp and catfish. Their rolls are not consistent; sometimes thick and doughy, sometimes light and fluffy. I like when it is light and fluffy...they are sooo good. read more

Just had a very good value meal and this place. Sat at the bar and ordered the 16 oz ribeye. Loaded potato and green beans. The bartender was my waitress and she did a great job. She gave me bread as soon as I sat down and the food came out very quickly. Cooked perfectly and a good value T $20 for the ribeye meal. Friendly service, good food and unbeatable price. This was my first exposure to a Texas Roadhouse and it was great! For $20 I had a large frozen margarita, steak, salad and side. The rolls come with cinnamon spiced butter which makes it a real treat! All meat besides the t-bone is cut in house. Not the best steaks in Des Moines but for a chain, they are pretty darn good. My preferred cut is the ribeye and I have never had an overcooked or undercooked steak. The cut comes in three sizes to match anyone's appetite. They have a wide variety of sides, two of my favorites are the sweet potato with caramel and marshmallows and the bakes beans. I am also fond of their steak sauce, I haven't found any like it on the grocery shelves. One piece of advice, if coming for dinner, especially on the weekend, come early or use call ahead seating. It is not out of the ordinary to have up to two hour waits to get a table here on those nights. read more

I had a fantastic meal, eating at the bar on a busy Friday night. I just walked over from my hotel, thinking that getting a seat at 5:30pm would be no sweat...wrong. Texas Roadhouse is an absolute must eat at restaurant. The hospitality and warmness of the staff matches the quality of the food exactly. Right when you open the door you can tell this is a very homey like place. There is a large barrel filled with peanuts to enjoy while you wait for a table. The portions are quite large as well and definitely affordable. My girlfriend and I usually end up splitting one of the Texas size combos, they're that big! The steaks are always cooked excellently and are very juicy. It's a great idea to call ahead to reserve seats as the place is almost always packed. read more

Soooo disappointed. I have eaten at Texas Roadhouses all across the country. This is the first time I have ever been soooo disappointed. We called in ahead and the person on the phone was super rude. Then got there and we waited more than 2 1/2 hours and still no table. When I asked the person at the front how long, he was a total jerk. Come to find out he was THE OWNER!!! If it wasn't for Vinny, our bartender/waiter, it would have been a total disaster. I told Vinny I was sorry he worked for a total jerk. Tonight we went to Texas Roadhouse and I had used call ahead seating. They were very slow and I didn't even need to use my call ahead #. We were seated and had our rolls right away. The waitress and her trainee were there within seconds. We ordered our drinks and had them very quickly. When they came back we ordered our meals. I had the beef tips with mash potatoes and gravy with a sweet potato loaded. My wife ordered the 6oz sirloin medium rare with a side salad with ranch and loaded fries. The steak on each order was perfectly cooked. The only problem I had was that my sweet potato was slightly undercooked. Other then that the service was great and the steak is always amazing. I love this Texas Roadhouse. It's always loud but that's to be expected. There always seams to be someone with a birthday which is always fun to see them humiliated and celebrated. I have been to many Texas Roadhouse restaurants across the Midwest and this trip in Iowa didn't disappoint. The only bad thing we experienced was the wait. We did the call ahead for a large group on a Sat night so we were sort of asking for it! We ended up waiting an hour anyway so the call ahead might have saved us 10 mins vs just walking up and asking to be seated. All in all we were with good company and just hung out eating peanuts with some bar items. Once we were seated, a new waiter JUSTIN who moved down from North Dakota was spot on in taking care of our huge group. They comped us apps for waiting so long without us even asking and the drinks were full before they were empty. THE FOOD - If you are tired of eating fried bowling alley food, stop in for the filet. You won't be disappointed. Oh and if you are into bread rolls you may weep over the cinnamon buttered yeast rolls. Bring a tissue.. And a friend...eat bread Nomnomnom. Food is excellent and filling! I've never had any problems going to this restaurant. The wait is a little long on the weekends, but worth it! The peanuts are a nice touch, and the warm dinner rolls are superb. The ribs are to die for. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that the service can get slow on a Friday/Saturday night. I'm not sure if the waitstaff is stretched too thin, or the restaurant is just THAT busy (which it usually is!). It's not unbearable, and the servers are usually more than pleasant, but response time could be a tinsy bit better! read more
