Have you ever been to Outback Steakhouse, Sizzler, Black Angus, or anything of that sort? If so, then you've also been to Texas Roadhouse. Texas Roadhouse, take a wild guess, sells steaks, BBQ chicken, and some ribs. This isn't bad when you take into consideration that your'e in State College, but that only really takes you so far. Not to be so harsh on Texas Roadhouse, but the food is mediocre. First of all, if you're coming here for dinner, be prepared to have a nice 30 minute wait. When you finally get seated, probably the highlight of you dinner will come from the free sweet rolls. These things are like crack, and almost be comparable to Red Lobster's cheesy biscuits. I think it only took me 5 minutes to gobble up 3 rolls. Unfortunately, the rest of your meal isn't quite as epic. For value, I went with the 8oz steak and BBQ chicken combo for $15.95. This came with two sides, which I chose vegetables and sweet potato. The steak wasn't bad. I just it a bad steak if I have to use A-1 steak sauce, so it didn't get to that point yet. Even so, it just tasted as if they put some pepper, salt, and garlic on the steak and called it a day. The BBQ chicken was juicy and not dry at all, but it was just chicken with BBQ sauce. I actually enjoyed the sweet potato the most, but that's a no brainer. Total came out to just around $20 after tip. Texas Roadhouse. Since the State College Restaurant scene is limited, I actually looked forward for Texas Roadhouse on a Friday night. However, I'm excited for other reasons that you would expect, not the steaks. I love Texas Roadhouse for their bread with the cinnamon spread. Oh my god, this stuff is addicting. I could go through baskets on end by myself, but I do leave some for the other people at the table. They're unlimited and hot when they arrive at your table, so definitely take advantage. The food here is decent, and similar to what you would get at an Outback, Applebees etc. It's a chain restaurant so nothing amazing. Reliably good food, very friendly service, and good drinks. When it's just me and my wife, we sit at the bar and enjoy ourselves. My wife usually has the mushroom jack chicken sandwich with mayo and loaded fries. I usually have 4 piece catfish with chili and plain sweet potato. Draft beer is ice cold and service is attentive. Texas Roadhouse did not remotely live up to the high expectations I had for it. The food is alright, not remarkable in any way. Honestly, the Corner Room had catfish as a special a year ago and it was 100x better than the catfish entree at TRH. The rolls are a big draw in. They give you as many hot rolls with cinnamon butter as you want. I liked them just fine, but wouldn't ever go there again for them. This is a SUPERB steak house!! Never mind that it's a franchise - the steaks and food served at Texas Roadhouse easily rivals Ruth's Chris or Morton's, and I say that in all seriousness. The sides are wonderful, the portions are great and the waiting staff are always fun and adorable. Great alternatives to steak, of course - chicken, BBQ ribs, prime rib and combination platters. The chili (one of their sides) is out of this world! Great drink selection, wide variety of beers. Sometimes it's a little loud, but always lively and relaxed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. If you are craving a good steak, this is the place to go. You select your own cut at the butcher display at the entrance and they will cook it to perfection the way you want it. The quality of the meat is outstanding, it is as tasty as any you find at upmarket restaurants in Texas. Very nice menu list, and they have some very good signature cocktails and adult beverages. They have country fried steak. Granted it's north of the Mason-Dixon line country fried steak, but it's the closest I'm going to get in State College. Wait was a bit long (40 minutes for 4 people on a Thursday night?), but ey. Rolls/cinnamon butter were good. There was a bunch of hippie dancing going on by the staff but I didn't notice because I had steak. The meat itself was good, but the cream gravy was cold and bland. When my wife mentioned that she wanted a steak for dinner, I jumped at the chance to come here. We've been to Texas Roadhouse on a number of occasions in the past, and I've always found their food to be exceptional. We arrived at around 5:30 PM, and we were a little worried since there weren't many parking spaces. We got right in the door, and we were seated within just a minute or two. Our waitress was on the ball and took our orders with minimal wait time. As usual, the steaks came prepared just as ordered, and overall we had a great meal. My only complaint was the level of noise in the place, so if you're looking for an intimate evening, this is probably not the place for you. Otherwise, the food is great and so was the service. Once again, on the road and I wimped out on trying something local and interesting and went with a chain. At least Texas Roadhouse was a chain that I hadn't tried yet. I see these things all over the country and as I am just not into gnawing on large slabs of beef, I am not generally drawn toward steak houses. Texas Roadhouse is a variation on the standard Sports Bar Franchise formula. Dark wood, cutesy waitress acts that are supposed to seem spontaneous but are really scripted and contrived, and kitschy signs all over. The center of one side of the restaurant has a bar with several brews on tap and a few screens with sports on them, the eating area is made up of various sized booths. Their spin on food is that you get a basket of sweet tasting hot rolls and a bucket of peanuts in the shell. Throwing the shells on the floor is encouraged. Waitress was reasonably attentive but seemed a bit harried and overworked. Menu was dominated with steaks and sides. I was not in the mood for anything heavy but then I had to reprimand myself, "if you don't want a steak, why the hell did you come in a steak joint?" I ordered the grilled chicken Caesar salad and my date ordered a Grilled Chicken salad. The food? The peanuts were slightly soft and stale and the rolls were a bit too sweet for my taste. However, the salad was reasonably fresh and the chicken was pretty good, nicely spiced and smoked. For drinks and two dinner salad, under 25 bucks. I guess I could give this place a better rating if I was in the mood for steak. But on the other hand, the Sports Bar Formula used by this place failed to help differentiate itself from any other franchise joint. read more

Oh the spectrum of places that work travel takes me... This place could accomodate quite a large group of us (6) that didn't call ahead for a dinner reservation, but that's about the only compliment I can give. The service was slow and my steak and baked potato tasted like they had been rolled in salt. I could barely choke down a few bites, especially since it took 20 minutes to get a refill on water! Every time I have been to this location something bad has happened with my order. Last night I went and ordered an 8 oz sirloin WELL DONE with onions with mashed potatoes and a house salad after waiting 15 minutes for the server to even come over to the table for drinks. Bread was obviously gone by that point but not at any time was I offered more bread (which is the best part of Texas Roadhouse). Salad came out fast, but then my server came out and said they didn't have the 8 oz only a 6 oz. Disappointed but not shocked since times before this visit they ran out of my choice of steak. So, I took the 6 oz steak. Food took probably another 40 minutes to come out. As I'm cutting into my steak it is bright red in the center. I can do a little pink but it was RED. I wanted them to just throw it back on the grill so I can continue eating. By the time my waitress came back to check up on us everyone else had already eaten their meal and here I was not even touched my steak. I asked to put it back on the grill and she asked if I wanted it more medium and I had to remind that I wanted it well done to begin with. Manager came and returned my meal without the onions that were previously on the plate. She didn't apologize for anything and then saw that I had a piece of onion from the first plate on my table and realized I needed onion. She brought out the onions and still no apology for anything from neither my server or the manager. Two minutes later my server brings the bill as I'm just starting my dinner. Nothing was taken off the bill despite them not having what I wanted and then continuing to mess it up. I probably tipped the lowest I ever have and I never do that since I am a waitress myself and know that things happen, but the fact nothing was ever acknowledged for being wrong and they didn't even try to compensate us what pushed me over. Roadhouse is a fun and great atmosphere to relax and eat! There's a ton of menu options for food + drinks. My favorite is the BBQ pulled pork dish that comes with 2 sides. The best part of Texas Roadhouse is the rolls you get with dinner with this sweet/sugary butter! It is so good, but with the rest of the food being so good as well... don't fill up on them! They have a cactus blossom - which is essentially the same as the Outback Bloomin' Onion. This would be my appetizer recommendation. I was at camp over the weekend and decided to drive the Quehanna Highway down to Snow Shoe. From there I started looking for a place to eat, and remembered this restaurant from when I use to live in the area, and decided to give it a shot. Everything was excellent. I picked a sirloin steak from the case, ordered rattlesnake bites and a fountain drink, and was completely happy with my meal. My waitress was very polite, and knew her way around the menu to answer any questions I had. The whole dancing thing caught me off guard. I guess I forgot about that. I don't get down to the area very often anymore, but when I'm in the area, this is one place I wouldn't have any reason to pass on. read more

Normally, This is one of my favorite chain resturants. I was in town on business and chose this store to have the Prime Rib. I arrived at 5:30 pm and seated at the Bar. After 1 beer I asked for a menu and ultimately ordered the Prime Rib. I was told that the Prime Rib was unavailable .. Why? Looked at website for hours on Friday and it says 12 AM to 8 PM. Drove 45 minutes to State College to eat and when we get there at 12:02 the door is locked. A waitress opens the door and tells us we have to leave cause they do not open until 3:00. This was our 2nd visit because we were giving them a second chance because of the rude bartender who didn't like his tip. We LOVE Texas Roadhouse! They were very sweet when we told them it was our first time there and even gave us a coupon for a free appetizer when we returned. We've come back a few times and have not been disappointed. Their appetizers are so great, their bread is complimentary and delicious, and their entrees are to die for. It's a little gimmicky, but the food is definitely worth it. Be prepared to spend a little more, alcoholic drinks are pretty expensive and appetizers are a little pricey too. The food was okay, and might be worth four stars. However, the waitress was quite rude. I came in alone. I had a long day, and didn't feel like cooking for myself. Probably because I came in alone, the waitress pounced on me, attempting to rush me along. I had been sitting at the table for no longer than ten seconds before I was asked what FOOD I wanted. Then, when I said I'd like a beer she insulted my integrity. It wasn't "may I see your ID." It was "You look a little young. I'm going to have to see your ID." This wasn't ill minded flirtatiousness. Last time I attended this Texas Roadhouse it was five star caliber through and through, but the lack of menu items held them from getting that 5th star. Then I returned and a bigger more expansive menu was waiting for me, they added more items and I noticed a increased amount of servers to allow more people to have access to tables and for your food to arrive at your table faster.
