As a native Texan, and not a tourist, I thought this place was awful. We walked in and the hostess was nowhere to be found. Then a waitress tried to seat us, and the hostess rushed over and gave the server attitude like she wasn't just trying to help. Our waitress was the best part of the experience. However she did tell us the food had lots of flavor, and that was a lie. The spinach artichoke dip was soupy and had no flavor. My boyfriend's steak frites were over cooked and had no flavor as well. My roasted chicken was dry and also had no flavor. The mashed potatoes had enough garlic to kill off a family of vampires, but hey at least it had flavor. 10/10 WOULD NOT recommend. You can get way better food for much less at Outback or Texas Roadhouse. read more

The Tuna Tartar tacos - delicious. Really eclectic menu - right up my alley with deviled eggs, burgers, salads, flat breads and really great starters. The deviled eggs were great - 3 different kinds (Crab, pork belly and radish - all very good). It's not a typical hotel restaurant. The food is not only very good but inventive and fresh. Very nice restaurant at the Omni, Dallas. All wood with maple tones. When you come in there is a big wood table with electric sockets to recharge your cells, etc while you wait. The table is scattered with newspapers and magazines; at the front as you go in a jar of Cranberry Apple spritzer & little cups of yogurt covered raisins as either appetizers while you wait or as in my case, I took one of each as an after diner, as I left the place. There is a large bar on the right and spacious dinning area with a choice of a buffet for a fix price or a la carte menu. We opted for the menu and had a burger w/ red pepper soup; grilled chicken salad wrap with nuts, and pork schnitzel with a crispy potato chip crust, green beans & mashed potatoes with chorizo gravy on the side. We decided to celebrate Christmas with brunch at the Omni's Texas Spice. The menu advertised interesting culinary treats. The buffet cost $70 per person including their mandatory 20% service charge. The service and atmosphere were great. They even gave you a loaf of cranberry bread to take home. However, the buffet that was full of quantity were flavorless. The restaurant did display a beautiful assortment of selections, tempting you to try the variety though. Farmers market salad, turnip greens and spinach salad and butternut barley salad all had no flavors although the description was enticing and looks good in individual glass serving containers. Shrimp (2) and crab cocktail were chewy. Instead of having shrimp cocktails that you can select they choose to put two shrimp in a cup for you. The pickled vegetables were not seasoned correctly. The carving table of turkey, brisket and ham were tasty. The accompaniments of parsnip and apple bisque was good plus the roasted roots. The sweet potato casserole, cream corn and scalloped potatoes were definitely plain. Shrimp and grits were good. However, the parker house rolls were so dry plus the breakfast pastries flavorless. It was definitely disappointing. Most brunch buffet should have delicious moist pastries. Now the desserts- beautiful display of petit fours, Christmas logs, Creme Brulé, pumpkin pie, apple crumb cake. Good to look at but not much taste-all very dry and not moist or flavorful. Texas Spice was a surprisingly good experience for being a restaurant in a hotel (Omni). The service was excellent and the space beautiful. It's HUGE and can host a group of any size. There's plenty of seating inside, several bars, and a massive outdoor patio. The drink list is great as is the wine list. The food was good too. It's Texas food so it's not very healthy for you, but it was tasty especially the short ribs. read more

We visited for the Thanksgiving Buffet. The food tasted great and there was variety. The rolls were very dry and hard. Our issue was with the service. 2-3 weeks before Thanksgiving I made a call to make a reservation and had to leave a voicemail. I received a callback a week ago today around noon time and was told I would be put on a waitlist if anyone canceled I may get a reservation. I was told that I could also do a walk up because the restaurant was taking reservations for half of the restaurant and the other half was for walk ups. We show up as a walk up 10 minutes after 11am. We were put on the waitlist (we were #5 on the list for a party of 3) and I knew it was going to be while before we sat down but had no idea it would be almost 3 hrs!! I later found out that the person on the phone was incorrect. The restaurant wasn't taking walk ups for half of the seating in the restaurant. I thought I would wait a reasonable amount of time. We received a text 10 minutes before 2pm after most people had left and that's when we were finally able to get a table. I guess by then our server Miriam was done for the day because she was not very attentive. I ordered sweet tea and when I came back to the table my husband said they were out and she gave me regular tea instead of asking if I wanted another drink. It took me a while to get her attention to get another drink. We kept having to flag her down for drink refills. I mean she had one job...to refill drinks, it's not that hard. The fact that gratuity is automatically added to your bill I guess makes it easy for servers to be sloppy on the job. She really lacked service skills. At the dessert bar, there was a dessert that had ice cream and I wanted one where the ice cream wasn't melted. The lady at the dessert bar said they were out of ice cream. I overheard someone say in Spanish that they should get ice cream from the back but their excuse was we are already closing no point in bringing it out. After taking my seat, several minutes later I saw someone bring a big tub of blue bell ice cream after a second person asked I assume. The trend I experienced is that if you are sat down near closing time, don't expect great service or anyone to go above and beyond. Update 11/26/2021 After looking at my receipt and their thanksgiving menu, my child's buffet was not complimentary even though she's 5. At no moment did Miriam ask us how old our child was and just assumed she was over 6. I've called and left a voicemail for restaurant manager. I won't be expecting a quick call back since Last time it took weeks for someone to call to call me back about my reservation. We will not be returning to dine at Texas Spice. read more

This place was walking distance from my hotel at the Hyatt. It is located in the Omni Hotel and the food was delicious! Vibe is very chill, they have a nice outdoor dining and drinking area. I got the pork tacos as a meal and they were so delicious. It comes with some also vinaigrette based coleslaw (eff that mayo shit) and homemade tortillas. It is listed as an appetizer but it is more than enough for an entree. Comes with 4 tacos and I think I finished two and picked on the 3rd. Today I had the pleasure of experiencing an exceptional breakfast at Texas Spice at the Omni Hotel in Downtown Dallas. We were promptly greeted, and taken to our table. Our server Lori greeted us and advised we could either order breakfast from their menu, or we could enjoy their $24 all-you-can-eat buffet, which we opted for. Lori was extremely gracious (as well as the rest of the staff) and she was very engaging, which made for a fun dining experience. You have to try their French toast, it's crusted in frosted flakes, and has a crispy outside, and soft inside. The scrambled eggs were a little hard (to be expected on a buffet), but everything else was great. They had chicken sausage links, blueberry pork sausage (yummy), and regular pork sausage links as well as bacon. Biscuits and gravy, along with assorted fruit and pastries, as well as made-to-order omelets, pancakes, waffles, and the aforementioned French toast, along with various juices and coffee. To top it all off, we had our parking validated, and as an added bonus, it ended up being free. Definitely will be returning here for another breakfast, and hope to see Lori again. read more

The menu concept was impressive, the mood setting was very relaxed and servers were very polite. I ordered the 44 Farms Ribeye Steak medium rare. I was not impressed with this cut of meat at all. It was too tuff, not tender. Although the seasoning was good the original sauce made it better. A good steak don't need sauce. My wife ordered the Texas Spiced Gulf Fish. I visited Texas Spice when in Dallas for a convention. Someone in our group made reservations for around 40 people. They set aside an entire side of the restaurant to accommodate our party. Food was ordered for us ahead of time but we were able to experience many of the different plates. I didn't care for some of their signature appetizers but the rest of the food earned four stars from me. The atmosphere is upscale rustic and is very dark inside. It is smoked in house. The breakfast buffet is an embarrassment of riches. There are so many delicious choices. Even the view is beautiful at Texas Spice. Probably one of the most underwhelming hotel restaurants I've ever been to. As a native to Miami I'm well versed in many different food cultures and what good service is and isn't. To begin, this review will get one star for the great mood and overall ambience that has been created. Now to the nitty gritty. The Menu has some good choices but unless you want to pay a 100 dollars you must commit to one thing unless your willing to share. If kyou want to share be mindful that they charrcamege a 20% service fee for groups. I myself ordered the hushpuppies. They were way too dense, over-fried, hard on the outside, and didn't have enough cheese, or sauce thate / under them ( this made it difficult to get the full taste and enjoy them ) I also went for the well priced buffet ($24) that had many options from soup to salad, appetizer to main, and dessert, but most of it was very lacking of taste. I tried the Mac n cheese which was pretty much velveeta. The chicken didn't taste like much. The wild rice was ok and so were the vegetables, and I was happy with the salad although presentation was lacking. Finally the dessert was lacking. The pies weren't very good, the cookies were over salted, and I was offered ice cream to which I gladly accepted to only get old ice cream with large ice chunks in it. Lastly, the waiter was incompetent as he forgot our orders many times and didn't return very often. I would've liked another drink, but that was a pipe dream with this waiter. One person in our group has a severe peanut allergy and after speaking with out waiter he was assured that his food would not contain peanuts, except that his skills really showed when his assurance sounded as if he never asked the chef to do this before. Overall, my expectations were severely crushed which is why Texas Spice gets one star. read more

Great tasting food - flavor was fresh, not overdone. I find that a surprise in a hotel restaurant. Though we opted to order off-menu, it was nice to see a lovely lunch buffet - many choices (and not Furrs-style) for just $20. Instead I ordered the Chop Salad. Very tasty, especially the Kalamata Olives. Others at the table ordered the same or the daily special, the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. Unfortunately, the special must have been very special because 10 minutes after ordering, the server returned to tell us it wasn't available. They got brisket tacos instead. And if I had to deduct one star (which I did) it was for the uneven kitchen service. I know they were likely slammed with attendees from a massive convention going on. However, it is a convention center hotel so that should be par for the course. When we were there, the server advised the kitchen was on a 15-20 min delay - along with the here's-the-special-oops-we-don't-have-anymore-after-ordering situation. So all in all, I would definitely give Texas Spice another try because the food was good. read more

Lunch here we had a choice of chicken tortilla or the SOTD, Taco. We selected Taco. Our server was Ingrid but the kitchen was slow in a mostly empty eatery. The broth is thin not unlike Tortilla soup. There are no avocado pieces in the Taco soup. It would help some if it did. We found ground beef, kidney beans, hominy, black beans, pinto beans, corn, and onions. The soup was on the bland side. The turkey club was served on sourdough bread. There's plenty of turkey breast meat, tomato, and bacon but it was way too thick for this sandwich. There was a sweet-tasting mayo on top. There are no fries or chips included. Decided to give this place another shot. I tried lunch this time thinking a bigger crowd might improve the vibe, quality, and service. Thinking it would be busy, I made a reservation. I tried via Yelp but the manager response was confusing saying they could take reservations but it depended on how busy they were. Anyway, I booked the reservation and started thinking about the Hot Chicken sandwich they had on their menu. Due to traffic and a confused driver, we were slightly late for the reservation, which initially worried me thinking they may not honor it if they were busy and because I was late. We walked in and the place was silent, like dead, nary a customer anywhere. One of three hostesses seated us at a table with a nice view. A nice server took our order. The food was served pretty promptly. However the Hot Chicken sandwich was inedible. Think a slim chicken breast coated in the thickest batter possible, over cooked, and then covered in chili seasoning out of a packet. I couldn't do it. The fries were similar, I evenly coated in the same seasoning. I didn't complain, my friend did manage to eat his sandwich. We paid and left. The bill was $$18.00+. Disappointment after two visits equals a never again for me. The hotel manager did reach out to me regarding my first visit. I appreciate that but I don't typically return the messages because I'm not a fan of confrontation or free stuff. I try to be honest and I try to provide multiple chances for business to show me what they got. I ate here 2 times for lunch while I was staying at the Omni. I needed a place to eat that was nearby since I was attending a convention at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center. The service was good, but a little confusing. There were so many different people coming to my table that I wasn't quite sure who my waiter was. On my second lunch visit, I noticed that the restaurant has a buffet. I didn't know about it on my first visit. I didn't see it on the menu and the waiter didn't mention it. I had the Caesar Salad for both meals. Actually it's a very LARGE salad. It was good. Another good thing about this restaurant, is they take reservations. I was really impressed by the beautiful atmosphere of Texas Spice. I mean, I wasn't surprised because it's the Omni in Dallas - a mighty fine hotel - so of course they're gonna have top notch dining options. But seriously, it's just so pretty inside Spice. Gorgeous wooden everythings... floors, tables, bars, chairs, and even the buffet bar and surrounding shelves that are stocked with granola, nuts, and cereals. Fireplaces, chandeliers, and so much space. This is a large, spread out restaurant that still gives off a cozy, warm, sort of ski-lodgey feeling. I want to come at Christmas time because I'm sure they'll have all sorts of wintry seasonal decor to go along with their fancy, rustic, cabin in the woods ambiance. As far as service goes, Texas Spice was on point. Our waiter was ultra friendly and when I told him we didn't have a ton of time before our next meeting, he made sure we were taken care of quickly. Very accommodating. My friends enjoyed (and raved about) the lunch buffet, which did look incredible, but being gluten-free I steer clear of buffets. Texas Spice has GF options noted on their regular menu, so I opted for the tomato-basil flatbread. I know I'd told our waiter that I didn't have a lot of time, and perhaps that's why the flatbread was so undercooked (or maybe it's just the GF dough??). It was definitely soggy and didn't have the best texture or flavors, but I still ate half of it. So back in February, I wrote a pretty sour and disappointed review about Texas Spice. I finally got around to giving them another try because I do enjoy their farm-to-table-Texas concept. Regardless of the poor experience I had before, the place is still a beauty in restaurant interiors. On this visit, we decided to go with their dinner buffet. I know, buffets can be nerve-wrecking. However this one is extremely well done and the variety of food was wonderful. The main buffet featured custom salads, cheddar bacon soup, shrimp pasta, street tacos, shredded chicken, mashed potatoes, and lots of good Southern sides. The dessert buffets was a heavenly offering of bread pudding, cheesecake, peach cobbler, and cookies. You could even get a glass of milk with your cookies. I had one cocktail, the Texas Bulldog which was okay but not great. I was much happier on this visit overall. Rita was our server and she was very friendly and attentive. I'd now move this place to the "return-to" column. It's inside th Omni so it always has a unque atmosphere of dinner dates, happy hours, and tourists. I got dinner and had the $20 dinner buffet -- as a vegetarian, I found plenty of options at the buffet, but I recommend scoping it out ahead of time before you commit. The dessert options are pretty awesome, too. I think a vegan would actually do okay at the buffet if you wanted to (there was quinoa!) The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and friendly/professional staff. As a single diner, they were prompt in serving me, which I appreciated. I also had breakfast here...I came a little after breakfast ended, but as I mentioned, I'm a vegetarian, and I didn't really want to have repeats of what I had in room-service (also provided by Texas Spice) the night before. The waiter kindly brought me french toast, despite them technically not serving it anymore. Was good and simple, which I appreciated. Also found their table decor awesome (the syrup came in a cute little glass jar I hadn't seen before). Sometimes it's the little things that make for a good experience. I'd recommend going here, but if you're vegetarian and will be in the area for more than a couple of days, you'll want to have back-up dining options in mind. read more

I gave Texas Spice another try for lunch today: "yah" :-) From the host, to the waiter, to the manager -- all were extremely attentive. The staff encouraged us to try some things that we normally would not have ordered like fried cod, freshly caught from the gulf or rigati pasta, which were delicious. For the main course, I had fish tacos -- I am coming back specifically for the fish tacos. The staff explained that consistent with the name, Texas Spice, they make a great effort to purchase all of the produce and meats from local Texas suppliers. The fish is caught within 2 days from the gulf near Galveston. For desert, we had sweet potato bread, which was so wholesome. During the meal, I came to realize that the glass walls that separate the dining area from the beautiful patio are retractable. The staff explained that for evening events, like happy hours, they open the doors and it's a seamless indoor-outdoor experience. "meh" :-\ Nothing to cry "meh" about today. "nah" :-( There is nothing "nah" about it. This is type of place where all you have to do is ask, and they will deliver a magical experience. Bravo. The prices are reasonable given the quality. They can share the wine list from another restaurant in the hotel -- so you are not just limited to the wines on the menu. This place is worth a try and perhaps a repeat visit or two. On our first night, we met one of the sweetest waiters who ended our meal with free milk and cookies! ---- Dinner 4.5/5 stars ----- - APP Tuna Tartare Tacos ($13) - devoured this appetizer! very fresh tuna with flavorful sauces (think chili, chimichurri, and chipotle aioli) - APP Brown Butter and Sage Mac & Cheese ($9) - very warm, cheesy, and filling - APP Red Neck Cheddar Meat Balls ($9) - odd combination of meatballs, cheese, and BBQ sauce but not bad - MAIN Angus Ribeye Steak ($36) - decent steak with delicious roasted veggies - DESSERT Cookies & milk (on the house, normally $7) - homemade chocolate chip cookies and ice cold farm milk SWEET! ---- Lunch 3/5 stars----- - SPECIAL BBQ Glazed Ribs + black bean salad + sweet potato fries + milk/cookies ($16) - wow! The salad was mediocre but the fries were crunchy and warm. Kind of disappointed with Texas Spice. While the high-end buffet thing isn't awful, I still expect good service. We had a reservation for 6 and were seated at a table with 5 glasses and 4 sets of silverware. Like, what? Whatever. Our server came shortly after to bring us water and then disappeared for what felt like forever. Was the restaurant packed? No. So not sure why he was having a hard time checking on us, although he was very polite. Most of our table ordered the buffet, I ordered the achiote rubbed chicken. The chicken was very moist, but the rub might as well have not existed. Fingerling potatoes were very good, cooked perfectly, and the spinach was okay. Kind of funky flavor, but otherwise fine. Everyone really enjoyed the buffet and I kind of wish I had gone with that instead of a $26 piece of okay chicken. Our server eventually came back and told us we could all eat at the dessert bar (even though two of us ordered off the menu) and the dessert wasn't half bad! I had chocolate cake, some kind of chocolate (German?) mouse, and what I can only assume was a tiny pumpkin pie. The cake was great and the others were good too, just not my cup or tea.
