What an amazing tasting we had. Very knowledgeable staff and extremely nice. The wine selection for the tasting was superb! Bought a few bottles for the road! We'll be back that's for sure. Love seeing the barn owl as well.

Driving into this property is a great introduction to the historic beauty that this winery is. The barn, the horse stalls, the outdoor patio, etc. There was at least one owl in the barn. Kai and Maddie were great hosts. However, Blue and the chickens were the piece de resistance! Yes, the wines were great too! We were here as part of the Grapeline Tour and definitely recommend both the tour and winery!

I would give Thatcher all the stars in the sky. I'm in love! Out of my entire trip to Paso, Thatcher was the absolute highlight. Every single wine I tasted was a winner. If you are a fan of reds, you've got to check them out. The rose was also FANTASTIC. Their tasting room is quiet and serene, surrounded by rolling hills and an old barn where they host group wine tastings. The woman who was helping us was so friendly and talked us through the tasting notes as well as the history of the winery. You've got to make a stop to Thatcher if you are in Paso! We also got to walk into another old barn on the property and saw an owl! Just another little detail that made this place all the more magical. I will be back! Not soon enough.

Thacher wine is a family owned winery with an authentic farm like atmosphere . It's about 25 min from downtown Paso Robles. It has old stables and barns and chickens and rooster running around which I loved!!! This was a second winery of the day and we were feeling pretty good lol! Our reservation was for 3:30 pm so by the time we got there it wasn't very crowded at all which was nice. We were greeted right away by Beck, who let us sit wherever we'd like and we chose to sit outside next to the heater. He also provided blankets as well which was nice since it was a bit chilly. Becks energy was so contagious and that really enhanced our wine tasting visit, and we really enjoyed his thorough explanations of The Oxymoronic theme with their wine and label- love it! Beck gave us an extra wine rosé for our patience, as he was caring for a couple things as well as serving our tasting. Our fave wines were Triumvirate reserve zinfandel (100% Zinfandel) and Original copy( Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot). Although there was no food served we didn't mind at all and were able to grab a bite later once we got back into downtown Paso Robles. Our tasting cost $20 a person and since we bought a bottle of the Triumvirate and left a tip our overall cost was $114.79. We would definitely come back to Thacher in the spring when it's warmer and sit outside again to enjoy the wine and watch the chickens!

Oh how we love this winery!!! What a delicious tasting experience. The venue is absolute breathtaking and you don't want to leave. The customer service was 5 star. We enjoyed the laid back tasting experience with great descriptions shared about each wine poured. We left with a couple of great bottles to take home and enjoy at a later date all with the memories shared at this lovely venue with the ones we love.

Very lovely place I will definitely go back. We especially love sitting outside, looking over the beautiful vineyards on the hillside. There are chickens, free ranging running around the property, it truly is a lovely experience one of our highlights of our Paso Robles trip. we met an awesome gentleman that was newer to the area from LA county. He was so kind and helpful and gave us great advice and where to find a delicious port wine. We purchased a ton of wine from this place and a delicious cider that we just enjoyed yesterday after a couple hours of gardening outside. You will not be disappointed go get a flight and enjoy the views

My husband and I absolutely enjoyed Thacher Winery and will be returning soon! Our host, Beck, was very welcoming and knowledgeable. He provided so much history of Thacher and how they make their wines. The winery is nestled in a barn setting, which makes for a serene ambiance - just perfect for relaxing. We took home two bottles of the 100% Syrah, they were oh so delicious. So happy we found Thacher!

Stopped by for what we thought would be a quick tasting but ended up having the most wonderful afternoon here! We were welcomed by Drew, who ended up guiding us through our tasting. We grabbed a blanket, one of many tables outside next to the barn, and he came over to set up a heater then bring us our wines. He also filled up our water bottles, which we were so thankful for on our drive home! We tasted through the wines at our table and received wonderful education on each one. We lucked out as they had a couple off-menu bottles open during our visit, all of which we were able to taste. We got up to walk around and check out the goats while we tasted - one of the highlights, they were so cute! We probably spent close to two hours here, and honestly could've spent the whole day had we brought snacks and ordered a bottle for there. They had a lot of fun blends that included quite a few unique to the area varietals including cinsault, counoise, and a 100% negrette. It sounded like they also had some great white wines including a sparkling - but all had sold out earlier in the year. There was a variety of seating options including picnic tables, high tops, and Adirondack chairs and benches small tables, a great variety for groups of any size. You could also taste inside the tasting room. We each ended up leaving with two bottles, and we definitely plan to return on a future Paso trip!

Highly recommend! Especially if you are interested in red blends. Some of the best I have tasted. Friendly service lovely atmosphere. We were a party of 4 and sat at a large high top picnic table. (Will remember snacks next time) purchased their Zinfandel and Original copy! Delish read more

The Wine is some of the best in Paso!! All of their wines have great names, Oddly Natural, Constant Variable to name a few. This was the second time I have visited this winery and we returned because the wine was so good! They are a small batch kinda place, which is what I love because you get a much more personal experience. We had a large group and they separated us but we were still close together. One of the women pouring wine let us know that they had some goats and my kids were so excited. The goats were friendly and my kids loved them! We accidentally left behind a little game a keep in my purse for my kids and they called the next winery we were stopping at to let us know that we had left it and they had it. Such great customer service. read more

Stop #3 of a Sunday morning tasting loop of Adelaida, Tablas Creek, Thacher, Opolo, and L'Aventure. The namesake winemaker was pouring the wine. I think he poured everything he had in inventory and setup the tasting for side-by-side pours. The grounds had goats, chickens, dog, and child. But don't imagine a rustic tasting room. It was very new and classy. The tasting was mostly Rhone whites and zinfandels. I came because I previously liked their Monterey Syrah. I left with 2 bottles of zin, 1 syrah, and some fun pictures of their homestead (which I uploaded a couple for you). On a 3/3/12 return visit, they were pouring far fewer wines than my first visit. The KR wine label appears to be gone. The pourer encouraged tasters to enjoy the wine outside in the gorgeous sun. $10 tasting fee is waived with a purchase. Like many places in Paso, they don't take American Express. read more

Thacher is by far one of my favorite Paso wineries. They're blends are all unique and incredibly well made. The property is beautiful and the staff was warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. If you are looking for the quintessential Paso Robles environs, this is the place! Thacher has a lovely ranch setting for wonderful and creative wines - some wines are traditionally "Paso" and others are more obtuse and worth the discovery. Very knowledgeable servers and an excellent tasting overall. We'll be back again soon! read more

This is exactly the kind of intimate winery that we were hoping we would find in Paso Robles wine country! Relaxed and friendly yet super professional hosts + small production well crafted wines. We enjoyed everything we tasted --- nice variety and so full of personality there is something to fit every mood. I took the longest time deciding what to bring home because there was something special to appreciate in each bottle. Can't wait to come back and send friends here because I think serious and casual wine lovers alike would appreciate this place. We tasted there today. There wine is not very good and way over priced. What really made us mad was that they charged us $10 plus tax to make a reservation. We made the reservation through their website which uses Tock. When I asked about crediting us, she said we would receive the credit only if we purchased wine, which we were not going to do. We will never go there again. read more

Cute tasting room, and attractive grounds. $10 tasting fee for 6 tastes (waived with the purchase of 2 bottles). Although a cute place, service (3 stars) can make such a difference in my enjoyment; it adds to the experience speaking with, and being served by, someone passionate about the wines, the winery, and/or the industry. Our pourer (a non-wine-industry student, working there for fun) was pleasant-enough, but clearly didn't display the knowledge, enthusiasm, or passion we've found at some other Paso Robles wineries. We still had a good time; we enjoyed the wines, leaving with their 2014 Viognier ($28) and 2012 Mourvedre ($45). read more

We had visited this winery about 4-5 yrs ago and had a great time in the small indoor tasting room with 2 other couples who were all strangers at the time. We were all chatting and were raving about their wines. We bought a bottle and recommended this winery to others over the years. We just returned a few days ago and were quite disappointed in their wines. We poured out the remainder in the glass after tasting every single wine in the tasting flight. We thought maybe all the wines tasted sweet due to the fact that we had a tasting just down the road with drier wines, but then the wines in our third winery tasting after this one tasted just fine. I don't know what changed with this winery in between our first and second visits. On a positive note, the ambience of the outdoor tasting areas are lovely. Slightly rustic, but we like that. read more

We had high hopes for Thacher due to the positive reviews but unfortunately our experience was unpleasant. Our wine educator was friendly and knowledgeable however the wine was not good. My suggestion is to focus on fewer wines and perfect those vs having a million mediocre versions. I regret having to pay the tasting fee. read more

This is a lovely winery and the perfect place to bring a picnic lunch. Our server, Jenna, was very knowledgeable and personable. She's enthusiastic about what she does. Thacher Winery tasting is one of the most pleasant experiences. We visited last week after not being able to visit the last four years and it was like coming home. The staff was friendly but not overbearing. We appreciated the friendly dogs that are happy to greet you. Most importantly though, their wine is consistently good. I am now a wine club member again and look forward to enjoying them throughout the year. I highly recommend a stop here. read more

One of the most beautiful settings in West Paso; Mediocre/Passable wines. Very sad now. Poor management. Seems now VERY liberal. Once Our favored Winery is now a place we are forced to avoid. WE judge wine environments on their dog friendliness. BEST to go (almost) across the street to ANY and ALL Dog friendly places. SO many GREAT dog friendly wineries. (Sculptera, Castoro, Eberle and so many) And do not miss Lago Giuseppe Winery. They have GREAT wine and Pizza and are Dog friendly. You totally blew it Thacher. So sad. read more

We have been members at Thacher for approximately 5 years now and we keep coming back for a few key reasons. First, the wine is wonderful. Some of the best reds I've ever had have been from Thacher. Second, the location is so lovely and relaxed. Sitting outside enjoying the view of the farm while tasting wines with good friends is divine. Third, the staff are super friendly, knowledgeable about the wines without any pretention. I highly recommend Thacher. read more

We had a lovely visit at this winery during a recent weekend visit to the area. Our server, Chris, was an absolute delight and answered all our questions including those about the history of the property, the Thacher name, the significance of the grasshopper on the label and an explanation of the GSM blends. He was very knowledgeable and his enthusiasm for wines and the process of winemaking was infectious. We fell in love with "Constant Variable" a GSM blend and walked away with a bottle to enjoy at home. Great little winery with an intimate family vibe. read more

My wife and I love going to Thacher Winery. Chris is always a great host and explains all the wines being poured. He also offers recommendations on area wineries and experiences, which are always on point. This last time, we brought a mini-picnic and sat at a table on the veranda looking over the vineyard. Can't beat the laid back atmosphere and good wines priced well. They make several little known varietals which adds to the uniqueness of the experience. We always leave with bottles to go and open them for special occasions to share with friends. Cheers! read more

I you are interested in a very authentic, close to the land winery experience try Thacher Winery. My friend and I had been to a couple of other lovely wineries. We'd had a great time at each of them. Thacher was our last winery of the day and we are glad to have capped off our day here. Why? Because it was a beautiful location where untampered-with wines were served outside in a low key but close to nature setting. It was a cool day; the winery had blankets on offer to keep the chill at bay. I made use of one. The wines are a celebration of the fruit, with minimal manipulation. I bought a couple of bottles of a varietal of which I wasn't familiar but so enjoyed. The tasting room staff were warm and friendly and let us take our time without any pressure to rush or buy. The barn is worth looking at, as well as the grounds. We walked around, glasses in hand, and enjoyed the real farm experience. I highly recommend Thacher Winery based on the sweet time we enjoyed there. read more

Spent a delightful afternoon at Thacher. We fully enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, the nuanced red blends, and especially the Zinfandel, which doesn't have the hot, spicy flavor profile that seems to dominate that varietal currently. Highly recommended. read more

Our recent visit was lovely. Had a reservation but arrived early and they still accommodated us. Covid restrictions in place which made us feel comfortable. Lovely table outside on "the porch". Grounds are lovely and the wine was delicious. Our server (Kelly?) was very knowledgable and friendly. Love going to the smaller places rather than the more popular and crowded ones. If they keep up this service though, Thacher could soon become one of the big guys. read more

Wonderful wines, a beautiful setting in the vineyards...a gem. Their new rose is delicious. It was discouraging to hear that they had sold out of all their whites for tasting, but it shows how it's worth becoming a wine club member since they make small batches. Chris graciously accommodated us with a white we wanted to buy. Sherman and Melissa were very welcoming, and Chris was also very knowledgeable and helpful. Lovely visit...thank you! read more

Thacher Winery is always a wonderful experience, the down to earth staff, the beautiful view, don't miss the barn, its amazing. The wine.... ALWAYS fabulous, well done and delicious. Well done Sherman and team! They struggle as other wineries do with everything being wifi now and it being in remote areas tends to go down, but that just makes the visit longer and that is always good! I've been a wine club member for a few years after cancelling my membership with a more Corporate winery in Paso because it truly felt like the antithesis of the conglomeration of the place on top of the hill. These people really love making wine and it shows. Rarely any misses, and some of the blends are so creative everyone I bring up here leaves impressed (and with many bottles!) read more

Zinfandel and Rhones at our family run winery on beautiful Vineyard Dr. Thacher Winery is a family-run boutique winery in the Adelaida Hills of Westside Paso Robles. Our current production is approximately 4,000 cases of many red blends including Zinfandels, Phones and more! The winery and tasting room was completed summer of 2008 and sits right next to the The Kentucky Ranch Barn, a well known landmark of old time Paso Robles. We encourage you to plan a visit to the beautiful Paso Robles Wine Country and visit our new winery and tasting room. We'd love to share our wines with you and show you around. We stumbled here trying to go to another winery, and we were so happy we did…read more We walked in and we were afraid they were going to turn us away because we didn't have a reservation, but they didn't. They were super sweet and accommodated us within a few minutes. We got seats outside which was really nice. Brian was helping us with our tasting and was awesome. He knew so much about the wine and loved how passionate he is about what he does. To our surprise, since we don't ever get a tasting like that, he stayed with us the whole tasting. That'll be $70. What?! For literally ZERO increase in service or experience. They're walking around a table, pouring a thimble of wine in a glass...that one extra person apparently necessitates a $70 fee. Here's the kicker: we were the only people in the tasting room for the entire two hours we were there. No crowd to manage, no strain on resources. And our group bought nine bottles of wine. The "thank you" for bringing in new customers and making purchases was a surprise $70 surcharge. I emailed to cancel my membership, thinking someone might reach out to try to keep a five-year member. Instead, I got a polite apology and a cancellation confirmation--from the GM and Winemaker, no less. No offer to waive the fee, no credit, nothing. They let a long-time member walk over $70. I noticed another Yelp review complaining about this exact same policy. So it's not just me--and apparently that feedback hasn't prompted any change. That says a lot. In a region overflowing with great wineries that actually value their members, I can't recommend this one. Policies like this, combined with zero effort to retain loyal customers, tell you everything you need to know about how they view the people who support them.

As with all wine reviews I do, I will always encourage people to try this winery for themselves as its a small business and we need to do all we can to support them. We sat inside at one of the comfortable couch settings, but they also had bar seating and bigger tables larger groups. You are also able to take your wine outside and explore a little bit, which we did. We noticed other groups with dogs, so they are dog friendly even inside! We were helped by Taylor who led us through the tasting, which was already set up and ready to go at the table when we arrived. Even though the wines were all out, she stopped in as we worked our way through them to talk about them a bit more. Including the welcome pour when we arrive, the tasting menu had 2 whites and 3 reds when we were in. We ended up trying a couple other wines that weren't in the tasting, and ended up getting bottles of the sensibility from the menu and a zin that was and off menu pour. Would absolutely come back here for an elevated and sophisticated wine experience that doesn't feel stuffy at all.

This was my first wine tasting experience in Paso Robles, and it did not disappoint! The setting at Thacher Winery is absolutely charming, and the entire experience was unforgettable. The wine was exceptional, and our server was friendly and knowledgeable. We were fortunate to have the place to ourselves, which made the visit feel even more intimate and special. The property itself is stunning, complete with adorable chickens roaming around and even a surprise sighting of some owls. I had a lovely time at Thacher Winery in the west Paso Robles hills. It's a beautiful setting, the wines are great but with unusual names (the 'Constant Variable' is my favorite; the reserve Cab was my least liked) and the service is friendly. There was a $20 charge for the tasting but they waive it with wine purchase. We brought a cheese and fruit picnic and sat out on the patio. It got me to thinking how nice it would be to live in that area of the county! I will gladly go back to Thacher sometime! read more
