Honestly Thai Basil is pretty good for your average take out spot but I would recommend not ordering during popular times aka Friday/Saturday evenings, their portions and everything goes out the window. On a Sunday afternoon for example the food has much better consistency! Their beef and broccoli, sesame tofu, drunken noodles, crab cheese wontons and potstickers are all goodies. Beware the online ordering system, inhouseorders.oi and Thai Basil Restaurant. I attempted to order through their online system. When I went to pay I got caught in a loop that said "attempting to contact the restaurant". After five minutes I backed out of the system and then called the restaurant directly to place my order. When we got to the restaurant to pick up the order, they had two duplicate orders, one from the phone call and one from the online system (which never confirmed my order). Since they already had my credit card for both orders, they refused to refund one of the orders and I was stuck with both. I contacted the online ordering company, inhouseorders.oi to dispute the online order. They said they called the restaurant and since I took both orders with me they could not provide a refund. My daughter works for Kaiser so I'll often times pick her up for lunch and we eat here. We both agree that we have never had a bad experience here. The food is always fresh and flavorful. I love the curries and she loves the noodle dishes. Everything is always spot on with temperature and seasoning and textures. We just ate here today. We will continue to eat here. Another huge plus is in comparison to other Thai restaurants in the area, the prices are considerably reasonable. This place is seriously horrible. I first ordered a small spicy Thai soup. It literally tasted like super salty water with a little chili pepper in it. I couldn't even eat more than a few bites it was so salty (plus no flavor at all). So then I ordered the lime tequila beef with steamed veggies. The veggies were like barely warm, unseasoned, and old tasting. They are completely inedible and gross. So I ate the steak which was barely palatable. This company closed one of their locations and I don't know what happened after that but the quality took a huge dive. The pho broth is bland. The chicken in the sweet and sour chicken has been smaller and harder. The chicken fried rice taste like metal and the recipe seems to change back and forth. This was always a friendly, lovely restaurant in its old site, a couple of door down to the east. It had cozy, Thai-themed decor. The food was reliably delicious, and we had many favorites. We've only been into the new place once, with family, and it was good for little kids-- but I say that because the lingering diner atmosphere (the space used to be a breakfast joint) is still evident. I think we stopped going to TB because in its present location, it no longer feels cozy or particularly inviting--by which I mean only the ambience (the waitstaff are as nice as ever, and the food assumedly still good, although frankly, we haven't been there enough lately to comment on this). Is this a Thai place or a Chinese place? What kind of Thai place serves wonton soup, kung pao chicken, and Szechuan chicken? The last time I checked, Szechuan was still in China. Meeting friends next door actually at Onefold, but as we all love Asian food we decided to go to Thai Basil instead. The interior was nice, but in retrospect I didn't get the lovely basil and curry laden aroma as we walked in the door that foretells of a delicious meal. I should have paid attention. We all ordered the same thing--Pad Thai. I had the lunch special with soup and egg roll. My friends shared a dinner portion. I'm not a novice about Asian food; I consider my self well versed, experienced, and with a developed and sensitive palate to the elements of Asian food. I didn't finish my flavorless Egg Drop Soup that was like a bowl of corn starch and water. Disappointed, but I hoped the main course would fare better. The Pad Thai was bright orange (I dislike this immensely, but I ordered before looking around to see if this would be the case). I squeezed my lime on the orange noodles but even that failed to bring about any significant flavor. The bean sprouts were fresh and crunchy, so that was good. The Egg Roll was not one bit more redeeming. I didn't' finish this bland, flavorless crunch roll either. By sheer habit, I took the large leftover portion of Pad Thai home.
