This is white people Thai (or, if you like, Thai for people who don't know any better). When you read through my Thai list, this means that the flavors are generally muted, dumbed-down and authenticity takes a backseat to what the proprietors think the prevailing populace wants. Thai food is so flexible that is still generally not bad, but it's a far cry from the glory and taste blast that this food is capable of delivering. In this case, it pissed me off, mostly because it seems to be run by Thai people. Maybe this is a place that has one of the secret menus or something, but even though their entrees didn't taste off as much as diluted, there should be some way of signaling to them to step on it for those who want it. I can't imagine a Thai person being pleased by the offerings on the plate that I got, particularly the rice, which was borderline insulting. Certainly none of my Thai friends would have found that acceptable. I've seen them send entire dishes back for less... The chicken satay was a travesty, as much an abomination as I've ever seen or tasted. I get that the appetizer can be boring and restaurants are always looking for a way to differentiate themselves, but on such a venerable old standby, which I think I've now had in nearly every imaginable way to prepare it, you'd think they could content themselves with just executing it skillfully...on a skewer, instead of a pile of thin fillets. Even the green tea was thin and mostly watery, so this was as much of a Thai phone-in as I've ever experienced. Staff was reasonably friendly, though service was a bit slow. Can't imagine I'll ever be hitting up this place again, unless someone else picks it or I'm in the area, like in the parking lot or something and intensely craving Thai food to the point I'd have to have it right that second. I think that this type of place illustrates more than anything that although the population density of Meridian grows by leaps and bounds, the restaurants are a long, long way from keeping pace, at least in terms of quality. The location is great. It used to be Fusion restaurant. The decor is nice, darker than the sister's restaurant, Pad Thai House. The same owner and chef (and familiar faces of the staff) as Pad Thai House on Overland and Five Mile bring the same delicious taste on all the food. Tom Kah Gai soup is always our favorite. The Statesman says this is run by the same folks who run the Pad Thai House, which used to be my go-to for Thai carryout. Now this place is...much more convenient, and same excellent food. I got some take out on a Thursday night; I had green chicken curry, med heat, sweet & sour chicken (for the kids) and flat rice noodles with pork, Thai hot. All were excellent, as good as PT House. The atmosphere does not look much different than when this place was Asian Fusion, so it would be fine for lunch or a casual dinner out. Tried out this newish Thai Restaurant in Meridian for the first time. We were very pleased with the decor, cleanliness, service and food. I am holding off at 4 stars, since there may be a better place in the area, but being somewhat of a newb on Thai places here, I haven't tried many. This is the former Asian Fusion place. So I would bet they didn't have to do much redecorating to make it into a Thai place. The menu seemed to have a mix of Thai and Chinese dishes. We partook of a late lunch about 45 minutes before they closed for their 3-5 PM hiatus. So they were not really busy, but we were not the only diners. Our server was a very nice young woman who answered the few questions we had. My wife had the Tom Yum Soup. It was seasoned nicely and was very well stocked with chicken and mushrooms. We split a Cha Yor, Vietnamese egg roll. Deep fried, cut into bite sized slices and served with lettuce wraps and a delightful peanut sauce. Large enough for 2 diners with some to go home as a later snack. A chicken drunken noodles made a good dish to also split and enjoy. I had it spiced up to their top spice level. It definitely cleared my head. The sweetness of a Thai tea was a just right accompaniment to cool down the fiery spice effects. All three dishes were well done and enjoyable. Some dishes, like the sweet and sour chicken, while really good, was more like a Chinese dish than Thai but the yellow curry and pad Thai were good Thai dishes. My parents rate Thai Food on verbs. Such as Slow Thai (service is slow), Fast Thai ( you get your food sometimes before you drinks), Good Thai (exceptional food and service) and Bad Thai ( you get the picture). Thai Basil falls into the Good Thai, staff was friendly, informative, and gave my wife recommendations on a few choices because she could not make up her mind. The food was outstanding, I had the Thai Basil Fried Rice. AWESOME. I had it with beef, it was a perfect dish, just the right amount of heat to enhance an already good tasting meal. My wife Thai Curry Green Chicken, she enjoyed it, right about of flavor not over powering by any means. Thai Basil is very solid Thai Joint, I dont think you will be disappointed, Unless your just a picky and difficult person, if that's the case, don't eat ethnic food :) read more

The Treasure Valley is filled with Asian-themed eateries of various kinds. Phô joints, all-you-can-eat Chinese buffets, sushi bars. Fusion. They come, they go, they're reborn, they remain indefinitely. I think I like each variety for what each is. Buffets are fun for me. I do love to eat, but the variety is fun and though there's so much of it, I never get around sampling everything, which pisses me off. The way I see it, if you're gonna pay for a meal, you should be able to eat until feces starts spraying from your armpits. I have to be honest with myself, however, and admit that I can't eat that much -- not even with my love of food, especially Asian food, taken into consideration -- so I love me a quaint little place with great food and service and if they offer a little bit of this manner of fare and that manner, then I'm pleased. I mean, not when I'm actually looking for something more specialized, obviously. Fusion places are "non-buffets". They offer a great cross-selection of regional fare, they mix it up. And they usually do it in a quiet, soothing way. Which, for me, is a great way to enjoy lunch. We chose Thai Basil, this afternoon, because it's been anticipated, its opening. "Coming Soon! Coming Soon!" And I love me some Thai. Unfortunately, the closest place to me -- Sawadee -- was a great disappointment when I tried it not long after moving to the area. Which was nearly two years ago. I sincerely hope things have changed, but I can't find it within myself to try, sorry. I'm not really sorry. A restaurant -- or any business -- isn't owed your patronage nor mine. It's gotta work for it. Thai Basil, they worked for it. And succeeded. I'll mention the one oddity I found right off, just to get it out of the way, because it's what you'll note at first: its front door reads that the business is shut down daily from 3 to 5 p.m. I have to say that though this gave me an initial frown, I realized that this is a painfully slow business hour at such restaurants. I've never gotten a good meal during this timeframe at them, either. We had an hour 'til the afternoon close, so we shrugged it off and went inside. Thai Basil's interior is quaint and comfortable in an expected contemporary Asian-themed way that looks like- About ninety percent of Asian restaurants in the United States. But right off, we were hit by friendly service. The menu is a fusion of Chinese and Southeast Asian-inspired meals. There are several choices of egg rolls/spring rolls in the appetizers section alone. I ordered the Thai egg rolls, which are deep-fried and come in either chicken or vegetable. You get four, with plum sauce for dipping, and they come hot and fresh and are incredibly good, served on a long bed of shaved carrots and lettuce. The entrees are huge. My sister and I both chose the beef Drunken Noodles. I, however, chose the "traditional", which is the spiciest offered. My sister also likes spicy fare, but she doesn't like it as spicy as I do, so she accidentally ordered hers mild. Which disappointed her, though it was her mistake and the platter was still tasty, though more sweet than sweet and spicy as mine was, which was spicy-enough to draw thick tears -- a certain way to determine that I'm enjoying a meal. The beef in the noodles was magnificent. Our soft drinks were bottomless. And our server made sure every -- and I mean "every" -- one of our needs was satisfied, even bringing over a pad of paper and a pen for my great-niece, who's accustomed to having something to color on when dining. I tipped her well. The prices are moderate. For what you get, very acceptable -- including in consideration of the level of service you'll enjoy. Our only complaint was that we hadn't read the menu deeply-enough to note the lettuce wraps before ordering the egg rolls. The server actually tried to stop the order, but it was too late. I hadn't expected her to do that and indeed ask her not to worry about it, but she was so eager to please. We'll just get 'em next time. I'm glad to say that there will be a next time. Man, I'm not a big fan of Thai food. I just don't like it as much as some of the other world cuisines. Having said that, we recently hit up this Thai Basil in an attempt to expand my horizons and try new stuffs. Success on both fronts. I came in ordered the coconut soup as an appetizer, and it was pretty good. Completely different than anything I've ever had before, and pretty tasty. I think they overdo it with the mushrooms, but for all I know you're supposed to eat this food with mushrooms like that. I'm not Thai, so I'm gonna assume it's par for the course. I got a spicy chicken thing as an entrée, and man it was good. I don't recall what it was called, but it was like orange chicken but spicier. It was pretty good, but not awesome. It was good like I'd get it again, but not like I'd go back just for this. Also, I get the distinct impression it's a dish for non-Thai people like myself. The service was good, but not awesome. The place was nice and clean and generally looked pretty nice... I liked it. Overall, I like this place. I went to Thai Basil on Saturday for lunch. I read all the great reviews about this place and thought I would check it out. 1. Ambiance: The restaurant was clean and comfortable. 2. Service: My servers were friendly, and responsive and quick 3. Food: I ordered appetizer lettuce wraps and pad thai with Tofu. I really enjoyed the lettuce wraps, however, having had lettuce wraps before at places like PF Changs, I was surprised that there were no sauces served with the wraps. Other than that they were fresh, and presented well, and had a generous serving. The pad thai was not the best pad thai I had ever had but it is probably just a matter of personal taste. It tasted more like soy sauce than any other flavorings and there was no spice in it. In fact both dishes were not spicy at all. I also enjoyed the house salad that they brought out. I give it 4 stars just because the food was good, but I have had better pad thai. it's a solid restaurant though and I do recommend it. read more

Went in couple of weeks ago(thought i did this review), and decided to try something I've never had I got the honey roasted duck. The first initial bite was good the flavor Asian wise seemed very mild could not describe what was used in the flavoring but it was nice. think I would like it on chicken as well. The duck itself as a very unusual texture similar to chicken thigh but not. It took me a little while of eating it to determine that flavor-wise it was very good, texture wise, don't like it. do not know if I will go try it anywhere else. The white steamed rice that came with it was cooked just right nice and sticky but not mushy. I also tried a glass of the plum wine they have. that was very good not sweet but crisp with slight tang. would like to buy that to keep at home. Was not impressed for what you get for the money. Way over priced curry dishes. I went to pick up dinner for my family and discovered that the plastic containers for the curry we ordered were half full. Very disappointing portions for the money. Not worth it at all. I even emailed management about this issue and attached the photo. The response I received stated that our curry dishes are not meant to fill the container. At the prices they charge they should. Poor quantities, poor customer service, and high cost. I will not be giving this place my business again. I would support them if they lowered the price of their entrees by $3.00 on average. It would justify the portions you receive. However you can't help but feel you are getting ripped off. I advise others to dine somewhere with more competitive prices. read more

We've eaten at this restaurant in different occasions. The first time we loved it, the food was delicious, very tasty; but the next times it wasn't as good as our first time. It seems like it depends on who's cooking. Their deep fried ice cream is always sold out, so we never got a chance to try it. One thing to highlight is how nice our servers have been, they're customer oriented. Honestly for our last experiences, this isn't our first choice since the flavor and quality aren't constant. We ordered take out from there twice. We normally order from Pad Thai House and travel the extra way because they have the best Thai in town We however wanted to try since the menu was so similar, and found out that they are indeed owned by the same family. The first time we ordered our usual favorites however their spicyness levels are rated differently and I was dissappointed because mine way way too mild. I had ordered the Pad Thai and the noodles almost seemed overcooked and just not as much flavor as I have had from the Pad Thai House. Last night when we ordered we decided we would get our usual but also had to try something new! I ordered the drunken noodles which was mild but tasty however very oily....the oil on the bottom of the take out box had everything sliding around. It was great for my husband because he can not tolerate spicy at all doesnt even use black pepper. My husband ordered the yellow curry chicken which was tasty and mild for him way to mild for me. My son ordered the pad seeew which he was very happy with and the larb which was super hot and was supposed to come with fresh cucumber slices but instead he got raw cabbage. Not what he was expecting. Again tasty but would not get as spicy next time, it reminded me of the filling for lettuce wraps without the sauce. We also had the red curry chicken and Mussamun Beef. It was good but seemed lacking in flavor compared to their other resturant. All in all the food is good but I still prefer Pad Thai House and will travel the extra way when I am not in a hurry. The best Thai food in the Treasure Valley, best by far! Loved the fresh vegetables and mix of various flavors: everything was cooked perfectly. The ambience was distinctly Thai, very attentive waitstaff, and have I mentioned the food was fantastic? I've had Thai a number of times, but the last place I went to gave me food poisoning and left a bad impression for the lack of hygiene. This place was clean and busy enough that it looked promising. I place an order to go and was really disappointed in the portion sizes. My curry was only half the container, if that. The rice was a little to go container that had rice all over the outside and the rice on the inside looked like it had been burnt. Parts were discolored and brown and dry. I did a summer rolls too. Thy were ok but there wasn't much filling in them to make the worth $9 for a combo roll. That's $3 per roll. I was told that it would be 15 minuets when I placed the order. Then after I arrived I was told that it would be another 10-15. I would have preferred if they did car side delivery seeing as multiple people I saw walk into the restaurant were not wearing mask at all. i visited for a second time today and it was just as good as my first visit. i am vegan and Lisa, our server, was amazing at recommending what i could eat. i was so excited because they make everything right then, so can remove fish sauce or shrimp paste from anything. it was the first time in years i was able to eat a curry. it was so so delicious. food was fresh, delicious and fast. can't wait to return. and i will always ask for lisa, as she is one of the best servers i have had! thank you! read more

Slow, poor service after we arrived. Dining room was cold. When we finally got waited on & order was taken it arrived hot but flavorless except for an overly excessive amount of salt. We ordered our meals to be medium spicy but they had NO spice except for way too much salt. Part of our order was missing. I finally got up & tracked down someone to get me some spicy sauce.
