Great thai food. Personable staff. Can't wait until they get their liquor license!

Restaurant is located within a shopping complex near CVS and Smart&Final. The restaurant is small and usually barren (I don't know why). I've been here 3 times, all for take out. The food is good. I ordered papaya salad but other places are better. I also ordered pad thai noodles and pad kee mao; decent. For dessert, I had the sticky rice with mango, not bad. So overall, good food. However, the food is overpriced for the value of your food and the amount they give you which is very little. Also, the service is slow (they are still putting my order together even after 30 min) and the staff are like robots..you know, not friendly but not unfriendly either, just moving along. Really good food. When we first entered my 2 year old baby boy said Pizza out loud. This place smelled like a pizza joint when we entered. Not sure why. my wife loved the yellow curry and we enjoyed the pad se ew. We are going back for sure. read more

I ate here several years ago and remembered the food as being ok but bland. After a recent return my original thought stands. Davorn's and Keothip are much better and offer more flavor in their dishes. The food was fresh and reasonably priced but just not yummy. The service was good. Don't think I will return. read more

Based on the color and the sweetness of the pad thai I assume it was made with bottled sauce. It was so sweet I could only eat half. I tried to convince my husband to eat if later for dinner so it wouldn't go to waste but he totally refused. I'm not thai and when I make this at home I do sauce from scratch; why do you feed this to us? The only reason I went here was because the other place that does wonderful pad thai is apparently closed on Mondays. If you want good service and custom spice level, this is the place. The menu selection is decent but some items were not quite what I expected. The all female staff were friendly, efficient and checked in us from time to time to make sure we had everything we needed. What I didn't care for was the vegetarian spring roll which was mostly lettuce wrapped in rice paper wrap. Also the Pad Thai was served heaped on a plate with most of the components separate including the peanut powder which was provided in a small dish. We then had to mix them all ourselves in the plate, a rather difficult job - so the taste didn't quite meet our expectations. I am vegetarian. They have great tasting vegan food. We ordered drunken noodles and green curry, both were very delicious. This is our favorite thai restaurant in our area. This restaurant is a must have when I come into town. I've been coming here since blockbuster was across the way (yeah THAT long) it has always had good, fresh Thai food. The staff is super friendly and always makes sure the experience is pleasant. I'm a spicy fanatic so I always go level 10+ (depending on who is working) but no matter what I order I am happy. Maybe not the best Thai food I've ever had, but still pretty tasty and would definitely recommend. Got takeout which took a while, but the huge portion sizes made it more than worth it with plenty of leftovers for another meal. Didn't try anything with meat, but the tofu was really good --fried just the right way to soak up the sauce. Spice level is quite conservative (got 7/10 spice but was still mild), but can be easily remedied with the chili oil they offer on the side. read more

Thai Basil has great Thai food, we ate there regularly and love the vegetarian spring rolls, Pad See Ew, and Pad Thai. I will say that is you're looking for a place that has great service, this might not be your best bet. We have waited 45 minutes to receive our food at a busy dinner before. But the food has always been hot and great. Also, I don't suggest ordering a to-go order unless they are familiar with you. It seems like they don't start cooking your food until you arrive to pick it up. So they will tell you 20 minutes, you show up in 20 minutes, and they tell you it will be another 20. read more

Delicious! Clean and friendly service. We ordered the Pad Thai, spicy rice which was to die for and the chicken curry. We ordered spice level 7 and it burned my face off and I was sucking on ice cubes for 45 minutes. On the other hand my boyfriend at his plate like a champ and didn't drink a sip of water until his plate was gone. To each his own the taste and flavor was perfect the veggies were delightful!!! Thai Basil is THE place to go for authentic Thai food. It's worth a drive for us! The place is small with a few tables so it could get really packed and may have to wait. It's worth waiting for a table as the food is amazing. We usually order the Pad Thai, Pad Ke Mow, fried rice among other items and they are always consistent and amazingly packed with flavor. There's a man there (perhaps the owner) that took our order and never had to write them down, and he nails it every time. He's fast and furious and his skill in managing tables, incoming phone orders and pick-up is something I have never seen before. If you go, take your time and expect a little wait. If you can't wait, I suggest call in ahead for order to go. This place does not disappoint. Here's the kicker that's taking some points away: The place has plug-in air fresheners which is a complete turnoff in a restaurant. read more

3 stars breaks my heart. Only a short few years ago I would have given Thai Basil a RAVE review. Unfortunately the young, entitled arrogant son who is managing this little gem has provided some of the most shameful service I have witnessed to date. There was some confusion over what I ordered, he was incredibly rude and hung up on me. I drove all the way back and tried to order the correct dish and he tried to throw me out of the restaurant when I said I wanted someone else to take my order because he was rude. He threw a little tantrum and said he was the owner and he could refuse to serve anyone. Okay, so sure, I was being a little passive aggressive, but REFUSE service?! Really?? (so weird) In the end I was able to order my dish, waited another 30 mins, watched him provide crappy service to his tables (several customers at different times walked over and served themselves napkins and water), he was rude to his wait staff and kept leaving a full restaurant, disappearing in the back, leaving one waitress to run the show (and she did an awesome job-- make HER manager). Aside from worrying that he spit in my food, I'm happy with the quality. I have always loved the food. I've been eating at this place for years. It's amazing. The son/manager is not amazing. Ok, I have to post a review. I have been going to Thai Basil for six years. It was my favorite Thai restaurant in Visalia. Until yesterday. Three of my friends and I went there for lunch. Service was slow, but we expected that. I noticed the waiter (owner) was taking orders without writing the orders down. We should have left at that point. I commented to my friends that that typically leads to mistakes in orders. He got to our table and was very friendly. He took our order: three orders of pad thai, one order of sweet and sour chicken, one order of soup--all various levels of spiciness. He didn't write anything down. The entrees came out and my friend who had ordered sweet and sour chicken was given pad thai. He pointed this out and the waiter said that he had ordered pad thai. After a few seconds of disagreeing, my friend asked for what he had ordered and said he would be happy to wait for it. The waiter complied. The waiter returned to our table and said that he had ordered pad thai and it was his fault he got the wrong food not the waiter's. The three of us had clearly heard him order sweet and sour chicken. I told him no--it was the waiter's fault as he failed to write the order down. He continued to argue with us telling us he didn't care if we never came back. My friend cancelled his order. Several minutes later, after the situation had cooled--he had the audacity to restart the argument. He told us that no one had asked us to come to his restaurant and it was my friend's fault. I asked him if he was seriously going to restart this argument and he kept on. The really sad thing is that before this moron bought this restaurant, the service was excellent. The old owner would come around to all the tables and ask if everything was good and demonstrate that he cared about our business. The new owner has no idea how to run a business. Someone else cooks the food and he serves it. Badly. Take a look at the other one star reviews. They all take place after he bought the restaurant. There are some negative reviews prior, but none for the service. I agree with Bekah M.--this man is absolutely insane. read more

My husband and I got takeout last night and we were extremely unhappy! When you order soup in the restaurant you get a bigger bowl but we were given enough to feed a toddler and had to pay the same price. We went back in to complain and they said "well thats how it comes" they couldn't have cared less. The food we did get was all horrible and the best part is I woke up at the crack of dawn with the worst food poisoning ever! (I had the seafood salad) and come to find out my mom and her friend got food poisoning when they ate there too. Big mistake I will never ever go back to this place and ill probably never eat asian food of any sort now! The sign in the restaurant says to go to their website and says "we would be happy to hear from you" But of course I can't get a response. Nice customer service! read more
