We went on a Wednesday around 6:30pm and the parking lot by the restaurant was packed, but there are other nearby lots available. Inside it was not too crowded. I ordered Pad Se Ew with Tofu and my friend ordered Pad Se Ew with Chicken. Pad Se Ew (3.5/5): Good portion size. The raw lettuce provided on the side didn't really add much to the dish. We weren't asked for our spice level preference, so it tasted a bit bland. Added extra spice helped somewhat. Throughout the years my husband and I have been coming to Thai Basil. It has always been consistently good. Even when my husband and I moved from the area we from time to time returned to this restaurant. Jua Rattanaphun always made us feel like family. I was saddened to find out this past Thursday that this weekend is the last time they are open. Mr Rattanaphun has graced the community with his contagious smile and delicious food for 30 years. There is a parking garage across the street from this location. Service is wonderful, always checking up on us, someone walking around with water. Decided to dine outdoors in the shade because the weather was so nice out. Shared the fried spring rolls which were nice and crispy. I like that it had noodles in them. My drunken noodles with shrimp were so flavorful and filled with crisp but cooked vegetables. It had a strong taste of basil which I loved. Only had 5 pieces of shrimp for an upcharge of $2. Yellow curry was also very flavorful with a mild spice to it. Can choose white or brown rice and opted for brown rice this time. Water is refreshing and comes with lemon in it. Crab fried rice and Spicy catfish were exceptional and are highly recommended. Fresh and authentic flavors. Fairly good portion size for sharing. Unfortunately the service did not match the quality of food. We had an exceptionally long wait after being seated for our food to arrive. Compounding the issue was our server who made an error with our order. Instead of addressing the mistake professionally, she loudly insisted it was our fault, which was, to be honest, both embarrassing and unprofessional. My friend and I had lunch here today (11/4/2025) and we ordered a simple vegetarian fried rice and cashew chicken. My friend was told that rice was included with the chicken dish for lunch. That it; no drinks. The electronic bill was around $42 and we added approx. 20% tip and left $50 *in cash* After we left the restaurant, we felt that the bill was higher than what it should. The deciding factor to not return is the overwhelming salt that made my stomach turn and the spices I again had asked they leave out of my order and they again did not respect my request. I have been going to Thai Basil for over decades. I still remember the days when the prices for lunch special were like $6.95, no yelp existed yet, gone are those prices for sure. I finally gotten around to write a review lol. My favorite dish here is Pad See Hew. Pad Thai is also really good! I was celebrating my brother's birthday, he got the yellow curry as that was one of his favorite. If you are in a time crunch, this place is conveniently fast and great Thai food. The Chicken Satay was rubbery with oily "peanut" sauce, and both the Drunken Noodles and Broccoli Beef were bland with zero flavor. The only highlight was the Thai Iced Tea. Portions are small for the prices. The worst part was the checkout. Instead of giving us a printed bill, the waitress rushed over with the card machine, flashed the total, and stood at our table silently watching as we counted out cash and calculated a tip. Inside is a bit dark and doesn't feel like the most welcoming. I like sitting outdoors if the weather is nice. My go-to is the Pad Thai with shrimp - medium spicy. I really like when places offer their pad thai to be spicy! For me, it's important for it to be as flavorful as it is spicy, and Thai Basil does that well. Pricing is pretty reasonable and I almost always have leftovers. The Thai tea is also great and sometimes I'll just come order that as a pick-me-up in the middle of my workday haha. After telling them, they added some scrambled egg on top Food itself was decent. Nothing that will wow you, but it will satisfy a Thai food craving. The main reason I'm giving 3 star is because at the end, when we were paying, they tapped the 20% tip for when we were paying. so we had no choice but to basically pay 20% tip or awkwardly change the tip amount back to 15% or 18%. Would you walk 50 minutes round trip to save up to $13.20? Ordered by phone $12 green curry, very spicy with chicken, and the $12 red curry, very spicy with chicken when they opened at 5pm.   I have ordered through the internet in the past once before, and they lost my order. If you order through Yelp on the internet, Grubhub gets a 15% commission on take out orders. If you order free delivery, the price of the curry with chicken dishes go from $12 to $14.85, before tipping the driver $5, without the $5 coupon. 25 minute one way walk from my house. Thai Basil has both indoor and outdoor seating, the latter on closed off Murphy Street, right across from the train station. Used a $5 coupon from my supermarket receipts from Lucky and Safeway. Took the dishes home, to be combined with broccoli. I don't like broccoli unless it has some spice to it. Normally would combine with leftovers Costco chicken, but Costco Sunnyvale rotisserie chicken closed down for six weeks until mid September. The 16 ounce green curry had plenty of white chicken, bamboo shoots, and coconut milk.   The 16 ounce red curry also came with a generous amount of white chicken, bamboo shoots, and coconut milk.   In both dishes, the strips of boneless white chicken were tender and thoroughly immersed throughout with the curry. With the added ingredients, and at maximum spiciness, these two dishes will feed two adults for two dinners. You get 16 ounce portions for $12, compared to 18 ounce portions for $14 at Old Siam. But the Old Siam green curry comes with eggplant, my wife's favorite. Thaibodia offers 3 entrees for $30, only one can be a curry dish, with 28 ounce portions of curry. The $5 coupon savings are not as good as they appear, as it requires a minimum $25 purchase. Had to order $2.50 white rice to bump it over the $25 amount. We can make rice at home for less than 2 cents per serving using Dollar Tree 5 lb long grain brown rice. Hey, they have to make money somehow. Previously ordered $12 green curry with chicken and $14 yellow curry with shrimp, also with the coupon. Came with at least 8 medium size shrimp, and onions, but the yellow curry didn't have much vegetables. I have to use seven $5 coupons collected in May and June before they expire at the end of the month. We haven't seen the $5 coupon in August on our Lucky and Safeway receipts. They've apparently discontinued it, as they lose money due to cheapskates like me. read more

I haven't begin here in 10 years and forgot how good the Thai food is here with sooo many Thai options in the area. Service continues to be excellent with the same owners who remembered me after a long discussion. I have visit twice this week and both red and yellow curry dishes were great with medium heat. The egg rolls were also good and priced at $10. Thai tea was great and the owner kept bring me out more because I was drinking this like water because it was sooo darn good and was only charged for 1 drink. it's been a while since I've gone to Thai Basil. When you have a young kid and they go through picky stages you find yourself not going to a local favorite for years. Well, we finally reached a point in time where we could take our 7 year old out to Thai and it was a solid hit. Is this the best Thai restaurant? No. But what it is and why I'm rating a 5/5 is for the following: Even though they don't have a kids menu they were accomodating with their food/spice levels. Their food choices are solid, affordable, and consistent. Even though it's been over 7 years, my favorites are still solid quality and tasty experiences. The service is fantastic; they were thoughtful in the seating and added another table so we'd have room for dinner and they regularly checked in on us and refilled our water. The ambience is on the darker side, but I love the aesthetic with lots of interesting memorabilia to look at. The one request I'd have is for them to remodel/fix the women's bathroom. It's showing it's age. Be aware that the hot water is HOT straight out of the tap. read more
