Throughout the years my husband and I have been coming to Thai Basil. It has always been consistently good. Even when my husband and I moved from the area we from time to time returned to this restaurant. Jua Rattanaphun always made us feel like family. I was saddened to find out this past Thursday that this weekend is the last time they are open. Mr Rattanaphun has graced the community with his contagious smile and delicious food for 30 years. I'm saddened to see him closing the restaurant, but happy for his semi-retirement. All the best to you Mr Rattanaphun and your family.

New location in Sunnyvale: 620 E Evelyn Avenue. Same great Thai food and welcoming team.

There is a parking garage across the street from this location. Service is wonderful, always checking up on us, someone walking around with water. Decided to dine outdoors in the shade because the weather was so nice out. Shared the fried spring rolls which were nice and crispy. I like that it had noodles in them. My drunken noodles with shrimp were so flavorful and filled with crisp but cooked vegetables. It had a strong taste of basil which I loved. Only had 5 pieces of shrimp for an upcharge of $2. Yellow curry was also very flavorful with a mild spice to it. Can choose white or brown rice and opted for brown rice this time. Water is refreshing and comes with lemon in it. The portions seemed small for the price but, I would definitely come back again to try more dishes because everything tasted great.

Came in for dinner for Dine Sunnyvale week with a friend who was visiting from LA. It was his 1st time dining @ Thai Basil & he loved the food. We ordered quite a few dishes for 3 people because I wanted him to sample as much as he can. We had a wonderful dinner with very good customer service and delicious food. The prices are good with good portion sizes. We have dined here many times and will continue to do so.

Crab fried rice and Spicy catfish were exceptional and are highly recommended. Fresh and authentic flavors. Fairly good portion size for sharing. Unfortunately the service did not match the quality of food. We had an exceptionally long wait after being seated for our food to arrive. Compounding the issue was our server who made an error with our order. Instead of addressing the mistake professionally, she loudly insisted it was our fault, which was, to be honest, both embarrassing and unprofessional. There is always a polite way to handle such situations. While the cuisine was delightful, the poor service significantly detracted from the overall dining experience.

My friend and I had lunch here today (11/4/2025) and we ordered a simple vegetarian fried rice and cashew chicken. My friend was told that rice was included with the chicken dish for lunch. That it; no drinks. The electronic bill was around $42 and we added approx. 20% tip and left $50 *in cash* After we left the restaurant, we felt that the bill was higher than what it should. I went online and ordered the same two items (without rice) and the bill came to $43 *including a 20% tip*. So, we ended up tipping twice - with a 20% tip already included. We should have asked for a physical receipt. Please check your bill, if you decide to eat here (we're not going to, of course)

We visited during Sunnyvale food week and had a lovely meal! Plus great Thai tea and attentive service from the staff. Only a few others dining while we were there, it was a nice atmosphere. The food was so delicious and filling! I had leftovers to take home which were great the next day. Will definitely be visiting again for a Thai food craving!

Not sure I will be back here after today sadly. The 38$ for two orders of the chicken basil with two sides of rice is not that bad. The deciding factor to not return is the overwhelming salt that made my stomach turn and the spices I again had asked they leave out of my order and they again did not respect my request. Makes me sad that the last two times and now this being the third time I drove the 45 min drive for the memorable chicken basil plate I crave has been disappointing. The portions were decent. I may have got the old leftovers from a different day. It looks old and salted so much it very well could be. Hope my stomach is not upset later.

Finally able to make it here and it did not disappoint! We ordered the following items to share: yellow curry with beef, shrimp pad thai, calamari and the mango sticky rice for dessert. Everything was delicious. The calamari was good, but not sure I would order it again. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more menu items.

Went for Sunday lunch and the service was quick! The food was delicious and we enjoyed the beautiful weather on the outdoor patio. Will be great to come back and try all the other items. For spicy level they have a scale from 1 to 8 and to me the 4 was mild-hot. Can't imagine how "hot" is.

Delicious Thai food! I've never been a fan of Thai cuisine, mostly because of the strong coconut flavor, but this place completely changed my perspective. (For context, I ended up here because of a team lunch from work.) I tried the mango curry -- something I've never seen on a Thai menu before -- and it was absolutely delicious. The green curry was also packed with flavor and very enjoyable. While the service was a bit slow -- we waited around 45 minutes due to a mix-up where our food was accidentally served to another table -- I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. It was my first visit, and the place seemed a bit understaffed during a busy afternoon. The restaurant has a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of seating. Their outdoor patio is a great option, especially for pet owners. Overall, it's a great spot to unwind and enjoy a flavorful meal in a comfortable setting.

Ordered yellow curry for takeout. It cost $24 and it didn't come with rice. At this price, rice should be included. This place is a rip-off.

You simply cannot go wrong with any of their standout dishes: the rich and aromatic khaosoi, the incredible crab fried rice, or any of their curries. Portions are generously sized, prices are wonderfully affordable, the service is impeccable, and parking is plentiful. Just be prepared -- seats fill up fast, so good luck snagging a table! AN OFF DAY 4.0…read more It seems like finding excellent Thai food is becoming more difficult these days. This place is probably one of the better options in the area. We enjoy coming here, but our most recent visit left us a bit underwhelmed. We ordered Thai Iced Teas (which were unfortunately served in clear plastic to-go cups), Mama's Egg Rolls, Crab Fried Rice, and Panang Curry with Beef. The standout dish was the Crab Fried Rice. We couldn't see any noticeable chunks of crab, but it was wonderfully seasoned. Where they fell short was in the service and ambiance. Within a minute of being seated, a server stopped by to take our order. When we asked for a little more time, no one returned, and we eventually had to flag someone down. During our meal, no one came by to check on us or ask how everything was. Perhaps it was because there didn't seem to be an assigned server for our table: one person took our order, another delivered the food, and someone else brought the bill. After finishing our meal, we sat for quite a while waiting. Fortunately, we weren't in a hurry. We eventually had to wave someone over for boxes and our check. As for the ambiance, the decor wasn't the issue. It was the loud music coming from the kitchen competing with the music playing in the dining room. The combination was distracting and not particularly pleasant. Unless they are intentionally going for a "street food" vibe, it's not something customers should have to experience. We will continue to dine here, but hope management takes note and makes improvements in these areas.

Unfortunately, this most recent visit left a bad taste in our mouths- literally & figuratively!! Our party of 3 came here during the lunch rush and lucked out with being seated pretty quickly. Menus were provided but weren't needed because we essentially ordered the same exact dishes we did from our first visit. I kid you not, we were legitimately hooked! Order: Prawn Pad Thai x2 Green Curry [medium spice] w/ Chicken Thai Iced Tea Anchan Lemonade (Butterfly Pea Flower) The young gentleman took our order and repeated everything back. My sister requested to have our drinks brought out in take out cups as opposed to the glasses & our server said he could make it happen. We wait and wait and wait and wait. Food took a bit of time to come out but because our visit was in the peak of lunch rush, we expected that. What we didn't anticipate was such a long wait for our drinks. We wait and wait some more before speaking to 3 separate staff members confirming that our drinks were put in. Each and every time, the staff confirms the drinks were ordered and we were told they would be coming soon. Fast forward: Our food comes out and still no drinks. Mind you there aren't any alcoholic beverages or anything that should take too long to concoct. Again, we ask our initial server about the drinks @ this point, the young man remembers and immediately gets to working on the drinks. Drinks finally come out [not in take out cups] and while the Thai tea tasted good, my lemonade was far from that. This young man seemed new and I was trying really hard to be patient. I told him the drink was not right and he immediately takes the cup back to add some lemon. The drink now comes back with a lighter hue on top and yet it still tasted like trash. The server offered to remake it and while I thanked him, I requested that he just remove the drink completely from our tab. It was 100% clear that he didn't know how to make the infamous lemonade. Things continued to go downhill when we had to repeatedly request for the chili assortment. It took one too many pleas for that to even happen. The lady at the neighboring table got the sudden urge/craving for Thai tea once she noticed our cup. She places an order with the Asian lady with long hair and the lady happens to bring the drink to our table. We politely explain that the drink was not ours and she immediately gets defensive telling us that we had just placed the order with her. Her tone and all of the many hiccups that had already been going on set my sister off who responded firmly. She immediately corrected her [noting the drink was ordered through the adjacent table, not us]. I'm so sad this 2nd visit was so disastrous. I never would have imagined a 5 star review would drop within a matter of days! For a restaurant who regularly deals with long lines of patrons, the establishment seemed to resemble a chicken with its head cut off. The only person so did their job to a T was the chef's in the kitchen.

We got the Penang braised beef, pad see ew, pad ka pow, Thai hot pot, and mango sticky rice. The Penang braised beef is basically like the Penang curry - very rich, well spiced, and the beef is tender. My favorite dish here. Pad see ew is good but fairly standard - pricing is pretty high for a dish like this - $20+ for a noodle dish. The pad ka pow is good - something I normally wouldn't get, in favor of curry, but it was great for sharing and open up my horizons beyond my typical order. Thai hot pot for $35 was really disappointing - there is good amount of beef but they do not do a good job with the meat cuts and it is easy to overcook due to the constant fire inside cooking up the soup. Mango sticky rice is good - mangoes were sweet and fresh, but the rice was on the undercooked side. Service is good as water refills were present and they brought the dishes in a timely manner.
