Throughout the years my husband and I have been coming to Thai Basil. It has always been consistently good. Even when my husband and I moved from the area we from time to time returned to this restaurant. Jua Rattanaphun always made us feel like family. I was saddened to find out this past Thursday that this weekend is the last time they are open. Mr Rattanaphun has graced the community with his contagious smile and delicious food for 30 years. I'm saddened to see him closing the restaurant, but happy for his semi-retirement. All the best to you Mr Rattanaphun and your family.

Awesome Chicken Larb! Take care when ordering it in spice level 7! Gluten-free.

They moved to 620 E Evelyn Ave. While the interior is currently more like a temporary solution, the food is still the same good quality and currently even better than before because I noticed no American-style sweetening and at least this week it was completely free of MSG!

There is a parking garage across the street from this location. Service is wonderful, always checking up on us, someone walking around with water. Decided to dine outdoors in the shade because the weather was so nice out. Shared the fried spring rolls which were nice and crispy. I like that it had noodles in them. My drunken noodles with shrimp were so flavorful and filled with crisp but cooked vegetables. It had a strong taste of basil which I loved. Only had 5 pieces of shrimp for an upcharge of $2. Yellow curry was also very flavorful with a mild spice to it. Can choose white or brown rice and opted for brown rice this time. Water is refreshing and comes with lemon in it. The portions seemed small for the price but, I would definitely come back again to try more dishes because everything tasted great.

Came in for dinner for Dine Sunnyvale week with a friend who was visiting from LA. It was his 1st time dining @ Thai Basil & he loved the food. We ordered quite a few dishes for 3 people because I wanted him to sample as much as he can. We had a wonderful dinner with very good customer service and delicious food. The prices are good with good portion sizes. We have dined here many times and will continue to do so.

Crab fried rice and Spicy catfish were exceptional and are highly recommended. Fresh and authentic flavors. Fairly good portion size for sharing. Unfortunately the service did not match the quality of food. We had an exceptionally long wait after being seated for our food to arrive. Compounding the issue was our server who made an error with our order. Instead of addressing the mistake professionally, she loudly insisted it was our fault, which was, to be honest, both embarrassing and unprofessional. There is always a polite way to handle such situations. While the cuisine was delightful, the poor service significantly detracted from the overall dining experience.

My friend and I had lunch here today (11/4/2025) and we ordered a simple vegetarian fried rice and cashew chicken. My friend was told that rice was included with the chicken dish for lunch. That it; no drinks. The electronic bill was around $42 and we added approx. 20% tip and left $50 *in cash* After we left the restaurant, we felt that the bill was higher than what it should. I went online and ordered the same two items (without rice) and the bill came to $43 *including a 20% tip*. So, we ended up tipping twice - with a 20% tip already included. We should have asked for a physical receipt. Please check your bill, if you decide to eat here (we're not going to, of course)

We visited during Sunnyvale food week and had a lovely meal! Plus great Thai tea and attentive service from the staff. Only a few others dining while we were there, it was a nice atmosphere. The food was so delicious and filling! I had leftovers to take home which were great the next day. Will definitely be visiting again for a Thai food craving!

Finally able to make it here and it did not disappoint! We ordered the following items to share: yellow curry with beef, shrimp pad thai, calamari and the mango sticky rice for dessert. Everything was delicious. The calamari was good, but not sure I would order it again. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more menu items.

Went for Sunday lunch and the service was quick! The food was delicious and we enjoyed the beautiful weather on the outdoor patio. Will be great to come back and try all the other items. For spicy level they have a scale from 1 to 8 and to me the 4 was mild-hot. Can't imagine how "hot" is.

Not sure I will be back here after today sadly. The 38$ for two orders of the chicken basil with two sides of rice is not that bad. The deciding factor to not return is the overwhelming salt that made my stomach turn and the spices I again had asked they leave out of my order and they again did not respect my request. Makes me sad that the last two times and now this being the third time I drove the 45 min drive for the memorable chicken basil plate I crave has been disappointing. The portions were decent. I may have got the old leftovers from a different day. It looks old and salted so much it very well could be. Hope my stomach is not upset later.

New location in Sunnyvale: 620 E Evelyn Avenue. Same great Thai food and welcoming team.

Delicious Thai food! I've never been a fan of Thai cuisine, mostly because of the strong coconut flavor, but this place completely changed my perspective. (For context, I ended up here because of a team lunch from work.) I tried the mango curry -- something I've never seen on a Thai menu before -- and it was absolutely delicious. The green curry was also packed with flavor and very enjoyable. While the service was a bit slow -- we waited around 45 minutes due to a mix-up where our food was accidentally served to another table -- I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. It was my first visit, and the place seemed a bit understaffed during a busy afternoon. The restaurant has a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of seating. Their outdoor patio is a great option, especially for pet owners. Overall, it's a great spot to unwind and enjoy a flavorful meal in a comfortable setting.

The restaurant itself looked so new as if they had finished construction. While we didn't go for happy hour, they had a massive bar inside. We ordered the pad see ew with tofu, and sesame chicken with white rice. It was a good lunch portion and was very tasty. My son works in the area so he has been here before and recommended it. Staff/servers were very nice and accommodating. We closed out our bill and we continued with our lunch date talking and catching up. They let us sit there outside uninterrupted until we were done (and we are SO SO SOOOOO sorry, we were there until 3PM). We had NO IDEA they close at 2PM until dinner time! We were very apologetic on the way out the door but they were saying it was fine. SIGH... No its not fine, I would have expected them tell us they are closing soon and maybe have us take our food order to go. Or closed out our bill and say they need to close to get ready for dinner... My son and I had a great dining experience. Thank you for everything and we have now NOTED your business hours. :D

They were pretty one-note in flavor and felt underwhelming. The crab fried rice and Panang braised beef were both enjoyable, but neither dish was particularly memorable or something I'd go out of my way to order again. The braised beef itself was tender, but it was served in large chunks that didn't make for the most appetizing presentation. The Thai iced tea was also noticeably sweeter than what I'm used to, which may work for some people but wasn't my preference. One thing that stood out for the wrong reason was the pacing of the meal. Our crab fried rice arrived first, followed by the curry puffs, and then the Panang beef came out last. The timing felt disjointed, especially since you'd expect the appetizers to arrive before the entrées. The biggest issue, though, is the value. The prices are on the higher end for Thai food, and when the overall experience is just average, it's hard to justify the cost. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out either. Overall, it was an okay meal, but with so many great Thai restaurants around, I don't see myself coming back.

I am one of those people who thinks that just about every meal needs animal protein or it won't be satisfying. Well, Happy Flower proved me wrong because I came away with a very happy and full stomach and I did not even miss the meat! We ordered 8 different dishes to share family style, and I was especially pleased with the all seasons sampler and vegan fried rolls appetizers, as well as the pad Thai, salted fish fried rice, hainan chicken rice, tomato fish, and happy clay pot entrees. Each dish was quite large such that all 9 of us were able to try generous portions of each dish. And then we got two servings of the mango sticky rice to share and the mango was amazingly sweet! I did not try their boba drinks, but a few of my friends ordered drinks and enjoyed them. Their boba drinks are sized quite large as well. I will say, the meat doesn't necessarily taste like the meat it purports to imitate, but the textures for the fake chicken and fish are pretty spot on! Service was friendly and helpful and they delivered the dishes at a good pace. The inside isn't fancy, but it's clean and well lit and spacious. I wish I had known about this hidden gem sooner, but they had a good clip of takeout orders and families coming in for dinner. Parking is also plentiful and easy in their large attached lot. I will be back!

It was super flavorful, perfectly spiced, and the "beef" texture was on point. I always order the Papaya Salad and typically love it, but today's sauce was a bit sweeter than usual. I still enjoyed the crispy green papaya and fresh basil, I just wish the sauce was the same as before. The Pad Thai was not for me. While the portion was huge, it didn't have the flavor and authenticity I was expecting. I wouldn't order it again and gave it away since I didn't plan on eating more. The vegan fried rolls were good and they arrived crispy, but I wouldn't get them again because the inside had something sweet, and I didn't like the sauce. I'll still order from here because I like most dishes I've tried, but there are definitely some items I ordered today that I won't be getting again.

Owned by a winner of a reality cooking competition, it makes sense why it is priced at a premium, and with that follows pleasantly attentive service, innovative dishes, and comfy seating. I found the food to be generally pleasant, and the only thing that is unpleasant is their proximity to the train station that interrupts conversation on an intervalized basis. Old Siam - I see the vision of this luxury take on an old fashioned, which is flavorally accurate. I think the garnish is a bit too simple beyond the block ice to properly convey that look. Roti Mataba - Intriguing dish as I've never seen roti used to encapsulate before, but its smart as it creates a flaky exterior that pairs incredibly well with the curry sauce. Pad See Ew - Large portion of a classic dish that is served on the lighter side but still tasty. I would clean up on the presentation though. Mango Sticky Rice - Beautiful arrangement of mango sticky rice that shows great knife skills of the mango. You can see the heart shape starting to form of the sticky rice as well, which is beautiful. I think it coild be even more advantageous to use rose to dye for a more warming color palette.
