I've been here three times and food and service is always great. I've tried their khao soy twice now and it's pretty good; the soup is full of flavors and the chicken is so soft. I didn't realize it could come with other meats, every other place I've gotten it at only serves it with chicken. The portions are large and enough for seconds. My family got the mango chicken, panag curry, and curry noodles. All of the food was devoured. Their cocktails are also super delicious! The ambiance in this place is super cute and a perfect spot for dinner with a large group. They do charge a large party fee of 20% for groups of 6 or more so something to consider! read more

I enjoyed my medium spicy Tom Kha Rice Noodle Soup except for the beef which I feel could have been higher quality, most Thai restaurants I've been to serve the best beef which is why there is always an upcharge for it on the menu. The beef was a no cost switch from chicken or tofu so beware if you are a steak aficionado or picky about your beef grade quality and choose the other meat or tofu options instead. A go-to spot with great food conveniently located right by USC. I've visited innumerable times over the past few years, and every visit has been amazing. The interior of the store features beautiful decor and plenty of seating. It tends to get pretty busy with students on weekends, but there's never too long of a wait. The service is standard: the waiters do tend to rush along your meal. I've tried a variety of dishes here, and they've all been fantastic. I love the classic pad thai with chicken. The Thai red curry is another delicious option, a sweet and spicy coconut curry with bamboo shoot and bell pepper. The portion sizes are generous, and each meal is seasoned to perfection. Love love love this place! Went with some friends and got an array of things to share. We loved it all. The mango sticky rice is a must when you're there! It's so creamy, flavorful and all hits the spot. The spicy rib eye salad, curry fried rice, pad see ew, pho,and edamame are on the savory side. Then the tom kha soup and curry are on the sweeter side. While the mango chicken and fried wontons and pork bites with their respective sauces are a great combo of sweet and savory! Went to Thai by Trio for lunch with friends and was so impressed! The Buddha dumplings were the best I've ever had--light, flavorful, and topped with an amazing green curry sauce. I got the drunken noodles with beef and it had a good level of spice and sweetness, but I wasn't a fan of the quartered tomato (??) and the raw cabbage that wasn't incorporated into the dish otherwise. The young girl with glasses was extremely rude. I went in to order egg rolls, mango sticky rice, and a Thai tea. They didn't have the sticky rice, so I changed my order to just Pad Thai. She rang me up for egg rolls, Pad Thai, and the tea. I corrected her, saying I didn't want the egg rolls, but she insisted "they're already making it." It had been less than a minute and I hadn't even paid yet. When I asked to cancel, she made a big fuss, ran to the back, and started speaking in another language with a hostile tone. Meanwhile, another older woman (who I didn't realize was an employee because she was playing on her phone) suddenly barged in front of me to use the iPad without saying excuse me, even bumping into me. Very unprofessional. When the girl handed me my drink, she didn't say a word, then turned her back on me as I left. Horrible service. I should've cancelled the whole order. There's a structure with designated spots for the restaurant and it was free parking for an hour (service is quick so you'll be fine!). There's even a tunnel connecting the restaurant to the parking structure. You can tell they were super intentional about the interior. All the decorations look so cohesive and their bar area is so cute! You get to watch them make your drinks. The drinks hit the spot! If you're a ginger lover, nows the time to get creative drinks like the gingerlini! We started off with chicken satay skewers as an app. They were so flavorful I had to stop myself from eating all of them. The mains came out quickly after and we LOVED every single dish. They recommended the ginger scallops and the scallops were perfectly cooked and the sauce complimented it so well! Parking: There is metered street parking, but I recommend parking in the structure located behind the restaurant. Make a left or right turn on W 27th St and the structure is on the right. It has free 2 hour parking. After, follow the signs to Thai by Trio. You'll walk through a hallway that leads you to the back of the restaurant. Ambiance/Environment: This is the most modern and aesthetic Thai restaurant I've ever been to. It's very clean with a large space, and it has plenty of indoor seating. Great for large groups! No outdoor seating. They have restrooms for customers. Service: We were greeted and seated right after we walked through. Shout out to all our servers! They took great care of us! Majority of them speak English but some are limited. The cooks were quick and efficient. Throughput was approx 10 minutes. Food & drinks: 1) Popcorn Wonton (appetizer) - Crispy mini wonton stuffed with chicken and cilantro served with peanut sweet sour sauce. These were so crunchy and paired excellent with the sauce! 2) Crispy Mango Chicken (entree) - Crispy chicken with fresh mango, bell peppers, homemade mango sauce, and cashew nuts. This was my favorite dish! It came with a bowl of rice. You can adjust the spice level too, but I kept mine as is. The chicken was cooked well and coated generously with the sauce. It was savory yet sweet. The chunks of mango made it refreshing. 3) Crying Tiger (entree) - Grilled rib eye marinated with Thai spices served with sautéed mixed vegetables. This was my second favorite dish! This also came with a bowl of rice. I requested the meat medium rare. Some pieces were well done but still delicious. It came with a lot of meat! I'm unsure what the sauce was, but it made the meat more juicier. 4) Blushing Dragon (cocktails) - soju, lychee juice, pomegranate juice, fresh lychee. I love lychee, and the taste of lychee still came through. You can still definitely taste the soju. I enjoyed this drink. 5) Purple Rain (cocktails) - soju, butterfly pea tea, mango juice, lemon juice. I was recommended this drink since it's their most popular. Now I know why! Other than its looks, it was also delicious! 6) Jasmine Milk Tea Boba - This is nonalcoholic, of course. Definitely tastes like jasmine milk tea, and the boba was decently chewy. Can't mess up a classic boba drink. 7) Thai Milk Green Tea Boba - This is also nonalcoholic. This is what you call a Thai green tea! The layers were visibly nice, and I also really enjoyed this drink. Pricing: I'd say it's worth the price! Portions are shareable and fulfilling. Awesome Thai fusion restaurant near USC! Plenty of metered street parking and easy to find. No outdoor seating, but it's beautiful and spacious inside! The Purple Rain soju cocktail was made with butterfly pea tea, mango and lemon juice. Not too sweet or strong. Their menu is extensive with a mix of Thai, Chinese and Taiwanese cuisine, hence "Trio" in their name. We started with the Buddha Dumplings and Roti Green Curry. Never had green curry on dumplings or roti so thin and crispy. Unique and worth a try. The Spicy Rib-Eye Salad wasn't spicy at all, but was very tender and flavorful. Generous portion too! The dressing was giving sesame and teriyaki. The Yellow Curry was on the mild and runny side, but I liked the coconut and spices that settled. It came with rice as well. The Drunken Noodles satisfied my spicy craving though! A good amount of noods and veggies with your choice of protein. Save room for dessert! Now where was this place when I was a grad student at USC? My recent visit to the DTLA area took me to this hip Thai spot that simply impressed me with their vibe and food quality. The menu has a lot of wonderful Thai staples and has a large vegetarian/vegan friendly section. They offer a lot of dishes using soy chicken meat and other accidentally vegan items, making it great to meet all dietary preferences. My friend and I started with their fried tofu ($8) which were pieces of deep-fried firm tofu served with a tangy peanut sauce. For my main, I asked if I could veganize their Khao Soi ($15) by swapping the egg noodle with rice noodles, removing the crispy egg noodles topping, and swapping the meat for soy chicken. They obliged and the dish was heavenly! The yellow curry soup was fantastic by itself with the right amount of spice, the soy meat was great and packed protein, and the inclusion of thin rice noodles didn't take away from the dish at all. Highly recommend if you want a great Khao Soi. We also ordered their Thai iced teas and they offer oat milk as a non-dairy option (along with boba). Particularly the fried tofu had no flavor. I have of course had plenty of Thai fried rice over the years and by comparison - to say my favorite place up in Santa Barbara - this was really lacking in flavor. Was told about this place from a friend so me and the family decided to try it out today. The free parking right behind with it's own garage entrance to the restaurant is nice. No need to venture out in the street to get there. Walking in you can immediately they take pride in their restaurant.
