This place is in between the theater and que pasa. Its is small and quaint but clean. You can order at a kiosk which is oddly located by tables. Or you can go to the register. Everyone is nice there. Food is made to order so it comes out hot and fresh. Definitely a great Chinese spot for some good food. read more

We arrived about 40min until closing so they only had takeout available. The employee guided us to order at the kiosk. The Beef Chow Fun was yummy and had a smoky flavor. The Mongolian beef was smoky and the beef was tender. The General Tso Chicken was tasty, maybe it could've been more crispy. Both entrees came with a side of steamed white rice. read more

Good experience with tasty food and good service. Started with calamari skewers, pot stickers, and egg rolls. The calamari was decent, but a little overcooked. Pot stickers were the usual reliable side that they are, and egg rolls are egg rolls. Our main courses were Orange Chicken and Shrimp Chow Fun. The orange chicken was not as sweet as other places but was still very tasty. The Shrimp Chow fun is similar to Chow Mein, but the noodles are thin and ramen-like. This Chinese restaurant is located in a strip mall adjacent to a movie theater, which is nice if you want to combine eating here with going to the movies. The decor inside is nothing fancy, but I thought the food was fine, the portions were generous and the service was good. I ordered the chicken egg foo young. I've had this dish at many other Chinese restaurants and the way it was prepared here was definitely quite different. They gave me a very large thin pancake which basically seemed like a large fried egg, and then it was topped with lots of chicken and vegetables in a nice gravy. The portion was quite plentiful. I can't speak to how authentic this preparation was, as more typically I've had it served with a thicker pancake, with the chicken sometimes cooked inside. Was super excited to try this place. My first time, we went in 25 minutes before they closed for take out and there were a few others seated and already eating. By the time our order was ready, we were the only ones there. Got home and saw they LEFT OUT not one, but TWO things that I ordered- no pot stickers at all and no fried rice that I paid extra for. The food was okay- all breaded and deep fried- the person working said that all dishes were like that. Since they were closed, not much you could do- I would not have driven all the way back anyway. Check your order by opening each box for sure if you eat here. It's kinda hard to make a mistake when you're the only order. Made me wonder if they just didn't want to make anything new and gave us what was already cooked & hoped we wouldn't notice. read more

Just visited Golden China for dinner as it is a fairly new Chinese restaurant in Atascadero and opened recently without much fanfare. I wasn't sure what to expect . It is small and unassuming, but the staff and the owner are really friendly and welcoming, so that made it a great experience. As for the food...WOW! We had the Vegetable Chow Mein, Chicken Chow Fun and the Mu Shu pork and all three were absolutely delicious. Really good Chinese food! Authentic and delicious. Stopped on our way to Paso. Not sure if we had made a good choice because we weren't directed to seat or kiosk. However when our order arrived we were very pleased with quality of food. We walked in a few nights ago and didn't know if we were supposed to sit down or order at the kiosk so we stood there for quite some time. Then eventually someone waved at us with a couple of menus and pointed at a table. So we were seated. That was kind of weird. They brought us some tea that we ordered and we asked for some Splenda or sweet and low. The person that was tending to us could not understand English and did not understand that we wanted some Splenda or sweet and low. So communication was a big problem. Then when I guess the waitress came and took our order, she brought us some sweet and low. We got half of our order fairly quickly and it took forever to get the second half. I think they forgot to make it. So we both kind of ate separately at the same table. Well, we were waiting for the second half of our food. The servers and helpers were just standing behind the front counter, just talking visiting and messing around on their phones, not tending to the customers. The place was busy so they should've been out there serving the customers instead of just chatting. There was tables that needed cleaned and floors that needed swept. We eventually got the second half of our order. The food was good and the price was right. The building has absolutely no decor. It looks like they didn't even decorate or paint since the last business was there. There's nothing on the walls and there's a great big menu board with nothing on it. The order here kiosk at the front door needs to go and at least have someone to greet you when you walk in the door. So I'll say it again. The food was good. The price is right. They need to work on cleanliness and customer service. We will try it at least one more time. read more

We are excited to have Golden China back! We ordered the potstickers which were perfection. Crisp on the outside and full of filling. We also shared the beef chow fun which was very generous with the beef, the Mongolian beef and mu shu pork. All were delicious, came with rice and really hit the spot. It was clean and casual and the service was great. Going back soon to try other dishes. They have an extensive menu. read more

We were so pleased! The food tasted fresh and was cooked well. We had beef, pork, fried rice, lo-mein and veggies. It was excellent, with a very tasty sauce. The service was fast and the amount of food served was double what we expected, so had a nice take home dinner too! Prices were certainly fair. The ambience is not fancy, but who cares when the food is great! We are so glad they are back right next door to the Colony Theater in Atascadero. I feel bad. I wasn't going to post because this restaurant was so terrible, I'm almost speechless. First, the atmosphere is abominable. There were old dirty condiment jars with scum inside and stickiness outside on every table. The waitress was trying, but was very uninspired. We ordered Sesame Chicken and Chicken Teriyaki, which was obviously made days ago. I'm not sure how many, but I'd have to guess at least two. Everything was lukewarm. It was really expensive for what we got. Two entrees and two iced teas with a tip was $50.00. Never again! read more

We have been here twice, once on the night they opened and then again a few days later. Each time we LOVED our food selections. They were most delicious, large portions for the price, and perfectly seasoned. So far we had Walnut Shrimp, Kung Pao Chicken, Mushu Pork, and Egg Fu Yung, which reminded us of our days in Silicon Valley. Excellent :) It's been only a couple weeks since this restaurant opened. Yes, there are no pictures on the wall and there isn't a hostess, as someone pointed out. These are things the new small business owner can work on later. We had a very strange experience at this new restaurant. Walking in the door, there's no obvious host station or indication that you should wait to be seated. There IS a large kiosk that simply says ORDER AND PAY HERE. So, we did, and took a seat after grabbing the soda I ordered from a beverage cooler in the dining room. The space seems clean, and has vibrant colors but there was no music or adornment on the walls to provide any atmosphere. We then realized that there were actual physical menus and they would have come around to take our order. So, that was odd. Anyway, we had ordered soup and a hot tea. Neither of these items came out significantly before the food arrived, so that was a bit of a bummer. Additionally, the rice was brought out well before the soup in a lidless container, which allowed it to sit and get cold. The food itself - kung pao chicken and moo shu pork, was of mixed quality. The kung pao had no hot chilies, which basically define the dish so that was really disappointing. I'm not exaggerating, I didn't find a single one. They were also out of the pork for the moo shu pork, so they offered to make it with chicken to which we agreed. This was tasty however it was served initially without the wrappers. When the wrappers arrived a few minutes later, they came in a plastic bag with some tiny hoisin packets, and the dish had also cooled substantially like the rice. Other weird and worse things: a man we think was the cook came out of the kitchen to talk to the front of house employees, and proceeded to sit on the tile floor behind the counter. Just sprawled out, hands down etc. this went on for a while, and when he got up he proceeded to pick up some sort of food with his hands and eat it, no hand washing or anything. If he casually does that without a second thought, I shudder to think of what his sanitary practices are with customers' food. When we departed, we were one of two tables left in the dining room. My wife told them to have a good night, but none of the four employees that were right there at the counter was paying any attention. Altogether an unacceptable experience! read more

First time to Golden China tonight. We went into restaurant and ordered to go. Customer service was amazing. They were paying attention to everyone in the restaurant making sure they were satisfied and taken care of. A couple items we tried to order were unavailable with hopes that they might have those items tomorrow. We ordered teriyaki chicken, broccoli and beef and wonton soup. Portion sizes were generous. Flavor of food was good, not amazing. My daughter said it was better than Panda Express. The three items we ordered were about $50 total. Restaurant was clean. Food was prepared in a reasonable amount of time. read more

We always order to go so can't speak to the service or anything but the food is delicious. If you want the kung pao spicy, just ask for it spicy with the Thai chilis in it, that's what we did. The sweet and sour chicken is mmm mmm delicious! And the sesame rice balls, what a treat! Also equally as delicious are the veggie chow fun noodles, chow mein noodles, sesame chicken! read more

Walked up and ordered food. The person was beyond rude and basically did not want to take my order. When I paid, he had flipped the screen around and I selected NO TIP $0.00. I had heard about a recently opened Chinese restaurant and have been craving some of the good old classic "Chinese" dishes. It was a little before noon on a Wednesday and there was one couple seated. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and I ordered cashew chicken to take home. The order came out soon with some very good white rice. My lunch was delicious, and I look forward to trying more items soon. I hope they succeed. They seem to be trying very hard and the food is very good. read more

I ordered lunch to go last weekend. The usual dishes, chow mein and orange chicken were cooked well but pretty bland. Service was timely. The project is still a work under construction, so let's see how they do in a few months. Prices were high but reasonable, $12 to $20 per dish. No combinations or lunch specials yet.
