My husband and I had dinner here last night, ordering the deep fried roll and chicken satay (for appetizers), followed by Pad Thai and Thai fried rice (both with chicken, though other meat options were available also). Well, not only was service extremely fast and friendly, the table was filled with food!!! The dishes were so abundant that we now have another meal of two for each of us as leftovers. The deep fried roll was piping hot and delicious. The satay chicken was properly cooked with a flavorful peanut sauce. Of the two main dishes, I think the Thai fried rice was my favorite, though the Pad Thai was very good also. My husband really liked the Tobin James wine options on the memo. We loved the cozy decor, which created a welcoming, casual ambiance. We will definitely go back...they have a take out option too, for those who prefer to dine at home. read more

What they bring you is a mediocre attempt of a sculpture made out of aluminum foil. Wtf?? Wife and I literally laughed out loud. Thai Elephant is my go-to for Thai food in this county, period. I have a family member who has celiac and we're both vegan. Their curries and fried rice dishes (minus egg) are totally safe for us. They're very friendly, accommodating (you have to hold the dairy cream for the Thai iced tea for instance), and when you eat in it's a pleasant, quiet, and casual atmosphere. Thai Elephant has become a go-to during covid, for their safety practices (hand sanitizer for customers before entry, outside dining available, distancing practices, as well as masks required for staff and customers alike, along with no-contact payment), friendly staff, and delicious food. They have nice lunch specials until 3 PM, and their curries are delicious. I'm a huge fan of the pumpkin curry, and my husband likes the yellow. Their crying tiger beef salad is absolutely delicious and refreshing-- perfect for a hot summer day. My absolute favorite item on the menu is the khao soi. Curry soup with lots of egg noodles, onion, cilantro, chicken, and fun little pickled veggies to brighten up the curry richness-- it's just the best, and they do a lovely job with theirs. Wanted this to be a great experience and my new favorite thai restaurant, but.... sadly.... and with deep depression... it was not. Overpriced, SO much OIL, and lacking in quality. Wonton soup was SO oily. Wontons themselves had the texture of half digested pasta. Vegetables were saturated in oil. Chicken was minimal and low quality. Broth was milky and chunky and unappealing. Maybe some people love it like this, and if so, wonderful. This was my craving, and with the added chicken it was nearly $20! So a big misfortune here. Chow mein noodles for the kids, again SO oily... layers and layers of grease and oil. Chicken was minimal and low quality. Kids didn't like it. Assorted vegetables, also SO much oil. Usually the food is super yummy but they turned us away 20 minutes before close! As a sever I can understand like 5 minutes before close but almost an entire half an hour before close is crazy! This was a grubhub order. The fried rice was soaked in oil. The rice was saturated with some clear oil and there was a pool of oil at the bottom of the container. This was inedible. This fried rice was so carelessly prepared it even looked too gross to eat. There were chunks of some kind of gray colored meat that was a real mystery as to what it was. Very few vegetables as well. The spring rolls with shrimp were as big as my fist and were crammed with lettuce. These were mostly lettuce and completely tasteless farmed shrimp. The salad was also a bunch of whole lettuce leaves, a few tasteless tomatoes, 3 slices of cucumbers, and a salad dressing that flowed like Elmers glue. Inedible. The whole mess was discarded. Food is normally good here, but I wouldn't know this time around. Places an online order shortly before 3 when they close for dinner prep (2:53 according to my email confirmation). The online system never updated to say they were making the food. It kept saying something like, "we will update this page with a timer when we estimate your order will be ready." That page NEVER updated with a timer and NEVER changed to say order ready, step 3 on the system. I drove by after 10-15 minutes of placing the order to see "closed" on their door. Went and picked up other food, called them after 4 when they opened to see what was going on because the online system was still stuck in step 2 of 3 and I was already charged. They said my order was ready at 3 before they closed. I asked why their system never updated to notify me of this and the lady tried to tell me she pushed it through the system to say complete. Sorry, but you didn't because the message NEVER changed. They told me the food is there and ready to pick up though. I went down there, told them who I was, they points to the bag and I asked, has this been sitting here since 3? One girl looked confused so I asked again. The other person, the one I believe I talked to on the phone finally said yes. Because there were customers in there I did not want to make a scene so I simply told them they could throw it out. They looked at me and I said, I am not going to eat food that has been sitting here for over an hour. Then I left. They didn't try to stop me, they didn't try to make it right on the phone or in person so I'm good. No more business from me unfortunately. I guess I'm done with Thai food unless I go out of town. UPDATE: I did just receive an email from the system saying they have canceled my order. If I end up getting refunded for the charges, then I would appreciate that from them. I do understand that working with different systems things don't always go correctly. They are good people there so I hope this gets straightened out. We stopped in Morro Bay to walk around and came upon this lovely little restaurant on one of the shopping streets. They have a small counter, a couple of indoor tables and a couple of outdoor tables. Very nondescript setting that the food is amazing and - they will make it as spicy or light as you want, The pad keeps mao was irresistible, and the quality of their ingredients is some of the best we've had in Thai restaurants. We love Elephant Thai, they offer many gluten-free and vegan options. Also, if you are health conscious, be sure to request your food without MSG--many studies have shown that MSG can lead to brain toxicity by causing excessive glutamate levels in the brain to overstimulate nerve cells, resulting in cell death.
