Thai Gulf used to be the SPOT. But they changed ownership and is now NARWAL THAI. Completely new and it was honestly disappointing. I'm talking $145 for shrimp pad Thai, chicken padseew, shrimp fried rice, yellow chicken curry, mango sticky rice; and Thai/green Thai tea. I've never experienced bad Thai food and this place was the first. They were literally changing the name signs when I went in and it was a ghost town. The mango sticky rice was not even good!!!! The sauce was salty and just strange... The mangos were good and rice ok... but I bit into a hard chunk of rice. I hope they get it together as a new business but definitely not authentic Thai food and their claims to serve good food for the community LOL.... I'm not willing to try it out again as it was that bad. Absolutely no flavor. VERY underwhelming and MID to respectfully say the least. I should've went to a pricier Thai spot close by so I know I'm going to spend good $ to have edible food. Lastly, I decided to get Pad Thai after not getting it in awhile and it was like stir fry. No sweet and sour tang like how it should be. No sauce, just plain. If you like that this is your place. Came here on Sunday night and was shocked to see it empty. I remember a number of years back, there would be long lines and waits to dine here, so to see it empty was nuts! Typical Thai restaurant. Came here after watching the 2025 US open of Surf at Huntington Beach which is about 10min away. It's located in a plaza with plenty nearby parkings. We ordered pineapple fried rice, papaya salad, and tom yum seafood soup. The portions are just right for two. We devoured everything because the flavors were spot on. The shrimps in the papaya salad were well seasoned and the fish fillet in the Tom Yum soup tasted fresh. We could not complete our meal without the mango sweet rice so it made it to our desert choice. The mangoes were ripe and juicy; but (sorry for the but, LOL!) the sticky rice was somewhat hard, we'd like it to be softer with more coconut milk in it. Calm ambient with cute decorations. Stopped by on the way to work. I ordered the pad Thai and the tofu spring roll. To start, the pad Thai was decent. I'd be lying if I said I haven't had better, but it's definitely decent and worth the price. The spring roll though was honestly one of the best spring rolls I've had. We visited Thai Gulf after our usual Thai spot was closed, and we were in the mood for Tom Kha soup. It was the highest-rated nearby option, and we were pleasantly surprised by both the food and the service. The Tom Kha was excellent--rich in flavor with shrimp, tomatoes, and mushrooms having absorbed the flavor of the broth. We ordered the pot, which was served in a beautiful silver bowl with a small flame underneath to keep it warm. It was both flavorful and visually appealing. We also ordered the fried chicken with herbs, which was fantastic. The wings were lightly fried with just the right amount of salt and pepper, and topped with crispy basil, garlic, and onions. While the sweet and sour dipping sauce paired well with it. Our server's name was Jayle and she was also very kind and attentive, checking in on us throughout the meal. We ordered Pineapple fried rice, Pad thai - chicken, Tender beef chunk massaman curry, Garlic pepper - beef, Pad see ew, and Garlic pork rib. The fried rice, pad thai, pad see ew, and tender beef massaman curry were all delicious as before. The curry used to come with a side of rice but now is in a small boat platter and no longer comes with rice. The garlic pork rib is not worth. It's a bit like popcorn chicken and a side of sriracha. It comes in a small basket of maybe 7 pieces. I didnt really care for the garlic pepper beef either. The flavor of the dishes are still the same as two years ago but I feel like the restaurant portions shrank by so much. We usually order the same amount of dishes but this time didn't feel leaving as satisfied as before. For example, the curry was mostly sauce with a few thin slices of protein, and the noodles felt appetizer-sized. Flavor was just okay, but the value was terrible. What bothered me most: the bill came with a gratuity already preselected on the payment screen without clear notice beforehand. I support local restaurants, but that feels like an abuse of trust. Please be transparent about any automatic gratuity and bring portion sizes back to what they were, or price accordingly. Until then, I will not return. I called Thai Gulf for take-out on the way home from work for an order of the Massaman curry, a side of roti, crab fried rice and pad Thai- all medium spicy. I was really impressed with the curry! We came here to try the Thai food for dinner. We had the Crab Rangoon to start. I liked them as it tasted like real crab inside. We also had some spicy wontons that weren't on the menu that were delish! Then we had the Pad Thai. All the food was flavorful and spicy! But you can adjust the spice to your liking. I don't know what it is with people overrating mediocre Thai food but it's common. Thai restaurants are plentiful in SoCal. There are many excellent ones like Thai Wave or Thai Fix or Silk. Thai Gulf is subpar. Food is bland. It takes forever. The angry young man at the counter getting upset at customers trying to give them money. Overcooked. That's the killer, bland and overcooked. YUCK Do better, there are way too many superior options than this janky weird place. We dined in recently on a weekend night and there wasnt anyone inside. Shouldve known that was a red flag already. The table and chairs that we were seated at were super dirty and oily. Had to ask the server for extra napkins to wipe off the table and chairs. My family ordered the green curry, tom yum soup, pad thai, pineapple fried rice, crying tiger, and the soft shell salad. First off, the food took forever to come. And each dish came out separately and 10 min later, another dish would come out. It was awkward because one person was eating while everyone was waiting for their dish to come out. We ordered the soft shell crab salad but they brought out the soft shell crab curry instead and that was the last dish that came out so we didnt bother telling them because we didnt want to wait for them to remake the dish. The pineapple fried rice was super plain and didnt have much flavor. The pad thai was good, it was more on the wet side which is what i like. The green curry and tom yum lacked a bit of flavor. And the crying tiger beef was super fatty with mostly fatty chunks. Definitely disappointed in the food since ive had this place bookmarked for awhile but I guess there are better thai food elsewhere. My last review for this spot was 14 years ago. We used to come here often. Friendly owners, tons of freebies liked mango slices, or fried bananas and we loved the food. Then one day we dined inside and asked for medium spice on our dishes and we were just devastated by how spicy our meal was. Our daughter was in tears and we stopped coming. Over the next, gulp, 14 years, we tried a ton of local Thai places, always making sure we asked for mild spice level. We educated ourselves and fell in love with Thai food again. We even went to Thailand last year. With all of the experimentation in the area, I simply forgot about this place. Well, last night my wife called me on her way home from work and asked me to call in a takeout order. I thought this place needed another tryout and it would be a quick in and out for her. I placed the order over the phone and it was ready on time. Also very well packaged which was appreciated. The Chicken Sa Tae, Pork Larb and Shrimp Pad-Prig-King were ordered at a spice level 1 and all dishes were simply delicious. Crying tiger was so tender - you could even taste the char from the open flame which is awesome. The tom yum soup was on the sweeter side, but still delicious! Pad thai was perfect for me, my brother felt it could have had a stronger flavor, but I thought it was well balanced. Some place do it overly sweet, but this had a subtle taste. Noodle were cooked well too. The fried rice was also delicious, most places just throw cans of pineapple into the fried rice make them larger pieces than the chicken or cashews, but here it was bite sizes and delicious. Oh! And their mango sticky rice is BOMB. One of my favorite desserts and I'm always hunting for it. You know a place is good is they follow the fruit season. This family-owned gem prides itself on having absolutely NO MSG in any of their dishes, which is a huge plus for health-conscious diners - especially for myself because MSG triggers migraines. The menu is filled with standout dishes, but some of my favorites were the massaman curry, Tom yum soup, soft shell snow crab curry. And you absolutely can't leave without trying one of their desserts. The sweet mango sticky rice is a Thai classic, but they also have unique ones like fried banana roti and their newest addition, thai tea bingsoo! The staff here was friendly. We went recently to celebrate my birthday/Mother's Day. I love authentic Asian food, the ones where you eat with your bare hands. The boat noodles did not have any flavor/seasoning. All I could smell was the star anise when it came out. First time I ever purchased Thai food and it was not enough. I even called to talk to them about it and they said that those were their portions and sorry it is what it is. . Also when I purchased Mongolian beef, it doesn't come with a side of white rice like I I've had in every other restaurant, which ok that's the way they do things, fine, however you can't add it to cart without them forcing you to purchase a side of rice for an additional cost. The rice was in the mini paper box containers that are usually the ones you get when you're taking home your left overs . It was the mini box. Now that's crazy. Ther wasn't much of a wait either except to wait for your meal. I ordered the Pad See Eew w/ Beef (+$1) and a Yelp Check In for free Thai Lime Iced Tea. During lunch special, the difference is that it's a smaller portion than what they would give at dinner time, and it also includes an eggroll and some salad. The Pad See Eew was delicious! I had to ask for some chilis on the side because I like eating spicy but I was able to adjust the amount of spice I wanted on mine. It was full of flavor and I was full by the end of it (thank god it wasn't dinner portion). Washing it down with the Thai Lime Iced Tea was perfect for the meal!
