This review is for take out only. I was in the Old Orchard region and craving some pad kee mao, bad. This place came up on yelp as very close by but was only 3.5 stars overall. I contemplated whether it was worth a try and decided to give it a go since I had to be in the area for a few more hours. Cost? A little pricey for Thai food. I was also concerned when the lady who took my order said it would be ready to picked up in 5 minutes. And yes, it literally was packed up and ready in 5 minutes. At this point, I was pretty sure it was microwaved old food. But to my surprise, the pad kee mao was surprisingly tasty. I'm not sure that I'd come back for dinner, but I'd be willing to try a lunch special. That's unlikely though as I don't work in the area. If you're trapped in the Old Orchard area and have a major hankering for Thai food, this place will do the trick. read more

My review is based on a walk-in order for take out. I did get a recommendation from the business next door, they informed me everything that they've had from there has been very good. Already close to 5p and knowing I had a long ride home ahead of me I decided if I wanted to have dinner not be late again, picking up would be an option. I was greeted right away and handed a menu as I explained I wanted to order to go, I noticed on the menu some coupons, and those were for orders phoned in, I joked with her that I could step outside and call it in, which made her laugh and say that I could use the coupon. This was a smart business move, as I ordered a appetizer that I probably wouldn't have in order to meet the minimum to get the other free appetizer. So now, I've tried two items that I enjoyed and will order again in the future. Everything tasted great, I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, chicken curry, spring rolls and egg rolls. The sweet and sour chicken isn't the typical version you're used to, generally breaded fried and swimming in something that has the consistency of pudding. There is no breading, it's not fried, it's just identifiable white meat chicken, the sauce is more of a broth with lots of flavor, with a compliment of vegetables. I really enjoyed it. The chicken curry, they have a few versions, I selected the mild one, this was for my husband and he's not into the too spicy or hot, for me it's the opposite. He said it was a little too mild, which is what it should be when you get the lowest level. I've gone to some places where even the mild level is too much, so if you want some spice, start with medium and go from there. The spring rolls were just delightful, you could taste the avocado, cheese, cucumber and carrots, I didn't even need the plum sauce that came with it for dipping. The egg rolls are also a lighter version of what you're used to seeing traditionally. Also tasty, however the spring rolls are really the star in the roll department. The restaurant itself is smaller, so if it were a busy time I could see it being a bit tight. I'd suggest avoiding prime dinner time, unless you enjoy being close. Plenty of available free parking. This little strip mall is easy to miss as it is set back and a little low to the street as you go north. Coming from the south look for the Room & Board, go up a little and you will see the Chase bank, turn into that driveway and go to the opposite end of the lot (left) and you'll see come across it. I got my co-workers hooked in this place. I think the food is good here. Inbox Kee Mao used to be good. I ordered it today and asked for a 5 for spicy level. I feel like there was something missing, not flavorful anymore and it wasn't spicy at all. Such a disappointment! The Fresh Spring Rolls were good. I got sushi kinda feeling taste. Mango Sticky Rice (seasonal only): not that good. I've had better. I think they switched the chef or something since they opened another location. I don't know. read more

I have been going to this place for the last five years. Even when they were across the street. The food was always perfect. The staff was always friendly. I like their online ordering option. This was the first time I tried that. I walked in 20 minutes later and my food was ready. I know it seems simple, but to do it regularly for over five years is worth me taking a moment of my time to write this. I felt they deserve it. @ Thai In Box In Wilmette! This is by far "THE BEST" Thai food in Chicagoland! The service is impeccable and all the staff is so professional and Thai Friendly. Recommend their Moo Ping (grilled pork), all curry dishes, "HOMEMADE" vegetable egg rolls, cucumber salad and their famous fried banana dessert. Oh and their Thai Ice Tea is to die for. This place really grew to me over the few years it's been operating. The previous owner was Oparts and that had the expectation very high. But with time after time they have proven their food is beyond delicious. This is a spot we order from a few times a month. And being walking distance makes it a jackpot. Closed on sundays. We've been fans for a long time... but now, Thai Inbox is falling to the same tune as some restaurants as of late. Jacked-up prices and smaller portions. We went to dine-in up at the Waukegan location a couple months ago. Seems like they were portioning out our entrees using tweezers. Then, yesterday, we went to the Wilmette location for carry out (dine-in not available there) and the rice portion was downsized, the curry container was literally HALF full, and the price was up by $3. I really like this place as it's quick, convenient, tasty, and the staff is friendly. They have lunch specials for $8 which include an entree, egg roll, and soda. It's a cute space, but works only for picking up food and not really eating a meal there. read more

Went here on a Sunday night to grab some dinner. The staff were friendly and paid me just the right amount of attention. The prices were reasonable for the portion sizes. For the most part, the food was delicious. The only thing they could do a bit better is to not overcook the noodles. The texture was almost mushy such that when you took a bite there was no substance to it and it just all congealed into this mash of noodle mess. In addition, if you looked closely there was tiny bits of burnt noodle all over the plate. Because of the sauce color, it was really hard to see, but I suspect they overcooked the noodles and that's why these two things happened. I would have to say, I was pleasantly surprised coming across this place. Usually Thai food around the Chicago suburb area is a bit too heavy for me, especially the noodle dishes. BUT the pad thai I got was delicious and had a nice balance of color/veggies, so it didn't become a chore to eat when finishing the meal. To be honest, we were quite far from home, so I couldn't say I would come back just to eat here, but it would be a nice option to have when we're close by. read more

I was very disappointed with this meal. I ordered the chicken satay, pad Thai with tofu, and the naem sod salad. First, when I arrived to their store front there was a horrible cigarette smell in the lobby which smelled as though someone was smoking regularly on the premise, but trying to cover it up with heavy perfumes. Then when I went to pay they told me my total was $55! And I was shocked since I had ordered three dishes. When I said I hadn't ordered half the meals on the receipt the employee tried to tell me I had. It was kind of ridiculous. It wasn't until another woman walked in who was also picking up that the employee realized I was telling the truth. They rectified the situation, but that plus the awful cigarette smell really was not a great first impression. The food was sub par as well. Thai is my favorite type of food, so I eat it a lot. The satay chicken had an unpleasant aftertaste to me, and the chicken seemed like low quality. The naem sod was the best dish of the three, and it was able to create some spicy heat, and the ginger tasted fresh. But the pad Thai was awful. The tofu was inedible, chewy and tasteless, and the noodles were cooked together so much that they created a brick of noodles which was hard to break a part in order to serve myself. I will not be ordering from here again or recommending this to a friend. I much prefer other thai restaurants in the area. read more

I'm usually skeptical of take out places, because I feel that food should be eaten as it comes out of the kitchen. That goes for pizza as well by the way. Thai Inbox does a brisk take out business at this location but it also has a small dining area as well. It's well worth staying to eat in since everything will taste as its supposed to. The setting is very spartan, but you come for the food not the fancy décor. The curry sauces are excellently done especially at this price point. The flavors are very faithful to authentic tastes and there is little in the way of dumbing down for local tastes. The people here are very pleasant and accommodating. I'm not sure if they have been trying out new cooks lately or what, but the last three times I've ordered, the dishes have tasted completely different. This last time everything was REALLY peppery, which is funny because pepper has never stood out to me in thai dishes. Sometimes dishes have been spicy, next time overly mild. This was our first time at this neighborhood restaurant but will be our last. My husband ordered an Inbox Kae Mao dish and asked for it to be medium spicy. He likes spicy but this came in edible it was so hot. The server took the dish away, with just two bites gone, didn't offer anything else and billed is for the privilege. Typical Americanized, overly sweet Thai food. Completely sweet thai green curry with beef. My seafood combination was 50% onions, 30% squid, two pieces of scallops and the rest shrimp. Chive dumpling was alright but very chewy. Not sure if that's the way it's supposed to be. read more

This has gradually become our favorite local Thai restaurant. Clean, bright, modern, crazy-fast service. I crave their tom yum soup [I alternate getting it with chicken or shrimp] - it's just so flavorful and just the right amount of spicy [it clears your sinuses!]. Thai Inbox will likely become a regular stop on my takeout rotation. My boyfriend and I went in on a Tuesday evening to find a very empty dine-in area, but customers frequently came and left with take out bags. The food was great and the service was speedy. The restaurant was nothing special, so I'll probably opt for the takeout option from now on. The empty dining area made us a little uncomfortable and on the spot, but by no fault of the staff. Portions were large, but quality was not affected. Pad Kee Mow was delicious and spicy! I felt the portions were slightly on the smaller side, but then again the prices were pretty good. If you are staying in the nearby hotels on Old Orchard, it is walkable.
