I normally love this restaurant. The food is always fresh and the servers are all normally very nice and helpful however, today was very different from what I'm used to experiencing. The girl behind the register today (blonde hair, had on a bandana and piercings on her face) was very rude and could use some training in customer service. When I walked in, there was no greeting or any nice gesture whatsoever. When I asked a question I was ignored. I don't know what her deal was but she was very unprofessional. It's been so long since I've had pad Thai this good. Even my mom said this taste like the real deal. We had a few more things that also taste just like what we had in Thailand. Fish cakes were wonderful, although they might have left it in the fryer too long. I was skeptical but the taste made up for it. I ordered drunken noodle and it was too drunken( like some dough). and stick each other.(there were too many white parts which is not woked) The Portion was too small( it was linch time but Pad kee mow is regular price during lunch time.) My fav Thai restaurant in a Denton! I love this place. I come all the time, service is great and food is even better. Such a cute little mom and pop restaurant. While the place is pretty small, I've never had an issue getting a table or with prompt service. I especially like their decor! So cute. I normally order their Drunken Noodles and it's really yummy! In town for an Indy Race, we wanted something different than the usual for dinner. We had never had Thai food before. Hannah, the server and hostess, made us feel very welcome. She has a lovely, calm manner about her. After we were seated and had ordered, the restaurant filled up with what seemed to me to be regulars. Always a good sign! I am no Thai food expert although I grew up in a country south of Thailand. Despite that, as a kiddo I was always surrounded by food that's bursting with great spices and flavors. So whenever my childhood cravings for exotic spicy flavors start to kick in, I head to Thai Ocha to get my quick fix! In Denton you either get really bad Asian food or really good Asian food and I have to say Thai Ocha is in my good books. The Khao Soi is my all time favorite! It is a coconut curry soup dish with deep-fried crispy egg noodles and a choice of your meat. What makes this dish stand out is the right balance of spice and perfect amount of coconut milk in the curry. Sometimes you just know it when a dish is right. Upon taking my first sip of curry, my mouth was bursting with sweet, sour and spicy flavors. Anyway, I kinda ditched the crispy egg noodle part and fanatically mixed a bowl of rice into the curry soup. Don't get me wrong the crispy egg noodle was good too. My other favorite is the pad kee mow although it's pretty oily. The best part is that you can taste that it has been cooked in a wok and over a fire stove! And you definitely can't say no to anything that has Thai basil in it! One thing that didn't work for me here is the tom yum soup. It just didn't feel right. But who cares about tom yum soup when I can get my coconut curry fix. Oh, and the thai ice tea is pretty awesome too! read more

When I had the first sip of their Thai Tea, I knew it was going to be good. I mean, that was the best thai tea in Denton. BELIEVE ME PPL! Anyway, I opted for the tofu thai fried rice. It was good, buuuut a little too much pepper for me. The thing keeping this from being 5 stars was a piece of eggshell I found in my fried rice *womp womp*, I was so upset, because I wanted it to be perfect. Hopefully, never again! Customer service was lacking. The cashier walked past me twice at the register without saying a WORD as I was standing there. Not even "One moment I will be with you shortly." She wasn't the only one who ignored me. I didn't have chopsticks in my to go order, which I realized after I got in my car. Not a big deal, I should've asked that's on me. BUT when I came back in I inexperienced just more ignoring and me standing there waiting for chopsticks. I feel like this is typical behavior towards African Americans here. To top it off I endured all of that ignoring and passive aggressive displays of rudeness (like ignoring which I said) to have the most unflavorful pad Thai of my life, it tasted like noodles in stir fry oil, where's the pad Thai sauce? The flavor?! I came here once two years ago, food wasn't bad then from what I remember. I tried to give them another chance tonight to prove themselves as a Thai spot that is actually memorable, but this place will be in my memory for SURE now. Won't be back! Great food, friendly staff! Started with Thai dumplings & Fried Avocado rolls, dumplings were tasty but the avocado rolls were a little bland. Chicken Tom Kah soup was excellent and the sesame chicken bites were hot & tasty! Asked for level 4, out of 5, on the spicy/heat scale, felt more like a 3 so could've used a bit more. I didn't grow up in south Thailand, but I am a Thai food expert (self-appointed of course). This hole-in-the-wall restaurant located on the north side of Denton is out of the way however the food is worth the trip if you enjoy good Thai. The tiny and somewhat hidden establishment is located off a side road near the edge of a neighborhood. It's wood panel walls are covered with expired Thai posters in frame and cheap Chinese decor, yet the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. When you walk in you'll notice there is a daily special posted and the restaurant is BYOB. We started with the fresh spring rolls (not fried) which were cut into fourths and served on china. The rolls should be treated like sushi in the sense that each is one bite, otherwise it'll most likely fall apart in your hands. The peanut sauce was well made and maintained it's peanut-y flavor while providing a sweet and tangy kick. For dinner I decided on pepper chicken served with fried rice. The entree consisted of chicken, bell pepper and onion bathing in a spicy sauce and served with a side of well-seasoned fried rice and egg. The waitress will ask how hot you would like it on a scale of 1-10, I'd personally recommend "Thai spicy" if you can handle the heat - if you want an additional kick ask for a side of chili sauce. Overall the dish was flavorful but the portions could be larger. During the meal I didn't see much of our waitress so we sat around waiting for refills. Additionally she brought our meals out separately which left my date without a plate. Overall the service could have been better but the food was above average. read more

Found the best Green Curry in Denton. After Suko Thai peaced out (r.i.p),I was searching for an equally thick and spicy curry. Didn't find it anywhere until I remembered that I had never tried Thai Ocha's. I decided on level four spicy, because it's the closest to the original Thai recipe and all the curries I tried had tasted like condensed milk with only a slight spice. It was incredible and affordable, especially during lunch. The lunch special comes with a complementary spring roll and small salad. More expensive than Suko Thai, but still didn't pay much more than seven dollars and the food quality was much better. So good. read more

Great little place. We actually headed to Denton to try another small Asian place, but the place was packed so we moved on. Yelp led us here and we were very happy with the redirection. Went here with my boyfriend. He used to frequent this place while he was living in Denton, but it had been a while so we visited for my first time. The staff was very friendly and polite. For the food, the saving grace was the off-the-menu curry puffs, served in an order of 2. They are small, perfectly fried pastries filled with potato and other veggies with Thai curry spice and oh so delicious. For my entree, I got massaman curry, which is my favorite, and was sorely disappointed. There wasn't any depth to flavor and it was watery. Thai Ocha is a neat little place. I can't believe I have lived in Denton for the past 4 years and not gone here before today. But boy (or girl) I sure am glad I went. We ordered the Green Curry with Chicken in accordance to suggestions made by other members. We also ordered a cup of the Tom Kha soup with tofu and a special appetizer they had for the day: Curry puffs! The green curry was subtle and allowed for all of the individual elements to shine. The bamboo shoots, the green beans, the eggplant, the basil, mmm mmm. The Tom Kha was expecially good. It was sweet, sour, and creamy with coconut milk, with perfectly tender tofu, tomatoes, and wonderful mushrooms. The curry puffs were awesome. it was a mix of veggies including potatoes, peas, and some other veggies seasoned with with curry and wrapped up and baked fresh in a puff pastry. it arrived hot out of the oven and was a great start to the meal. The atmosphere at Thai Ocha is quiet and relaxed. The food arrives quickly and the servers are very courteous and kind. It is full of all kinds of people, not just students, so you get a more homey vibe out of the place. I definitely recommend Thai Ocha to any Thai fan and look forward to my future visits. We ventured to Denton to watch the Jazz Fest and ended the day at this Thai establishment. The place was very nice and clean. The host was very friendly. We went ahead ordered shrimp pad-thai. khao soy, tofu in basil sauce, papaya salad, and sticky rice with mango. Every thing was delicious and surprised all of us. The only problem was with the inexperienced wait people. They were inefficient and caused a lot of people to wait. We will definitely come back when coming to Denton. read more

Excellent Thai choice. Denton has an odd variety of Asian cuisine choices with seemingly more Thai and Korean selections than traditional americanized Chinese. We love our Thai appetizers: fried spring rolls, fresh rolls in soft rice paper, chicken satay, dumplings. I think we could spend over $20 on appetizers for the 2 of us if we just let ourselves do it. We strive to limit 2 and our first two at this Thai Ocha were the very good fried spring rolls with a wonderful spicy sweet sauce and the chicken satay with peanut sauce. Their peanut sauce was a little thin for our tastes and didn't seem to stick to the otherwise excellent chicken. The peanut chicken entree was a better effort with chunks of vegetables and chopped peanuts. The basil beef entree was also quite savory. All of their entree sauces were available in beef, chicken, pork, tofu and, I think, shrimp. The service was very attentive with lots of nice little details you don't see everywhere. We'll definitely be back and a little more adventurous next time. After 3 visits and a bit more adventurous selections for entrees, my feeling is that Thai Ocha really shines on the appetizers selection over the entree selection. The other entrees we've had were not 'bad' or 'poor quality', but simply not to our taste. I'm sure we will keep experimenting with our selections as the appetizers will keep us coming back for more. Edit: 4th visit. We got Pineapple Fried Rice, Rad Na with pork, and Corn Patties as an appetizer. The corn patties were pretty straightforward and nothing out of the ordinary for fried corn fritters. The sweet and spicy sauce helped, but was soaked up by the coating. They were a little dry, but tasty enough. The pineapple fried rice was made with a mild yellow curry, which was a bit of a surprise, but tasted pretty good with big chunks of pineapple and cashews. The rad na is pan-fried wide noodles in a black bean sauce with snap peas and brocolli florets. This was a very good dish and I'm glad I was adventurous in ordering. I might be in the minority, but I must say this place is not great. Our table ordered the Larb Salad, Pad Kee Mow, and Spicy Basil Fried Rice. The larb salad (~$8) was horrible at best. I love this dish typically but it was horrible here. The fish sauce was overwhelming and there was another offputting taste that I just could not put my finger on. The Pad Kee Mow (~$8.25) was the best dish of the three, but I've had better. It was overall just blander than what I was used to. Finally, the spicy basil fried rice (~$8) was not flavorful. There was no basil flavor and really tasted a lot like regular fried rice. For the quality of the food and the price, I won't be coming back. The service was fine. read more

I was looking for something good to stop and eat on the way to Oklahoma. I consulted Yelp and Thai Ocha was the winner. The chicken spring rolls was a generous portion with plenty of chicken in each. For my entrée I had the beef Pad Woon Sen at a #3 out of 5 heat range. Both dishes were great and not too spicy. The Prik Nam Pla was spot on. The hot jasmine tea was very refreshing. I will definitely stop here occasionally on my way back and forth from Oklahoma. read more

I went to go visit this place today based on the reviews that I saw on Yelp and I have to admit that the reviews were mostly right in my opinion. The service was good, I got a pad Thai dish with glass noodles ( yum for 10 dollars) it had pork and peanuts with green onions and bean sprouts and I dont know if this is standard but it was encased in a tortilla bowl. ( kinda creative, kinda bizarre) and with that it came with a small veggie egg roll and a small bowl of the soup of the day, which today's was egg drop soup. I usually make my own egg drop soup and turn away most restaurants but this one was weird and not in a bad way for me. It had lots of veggies in it and was unusually sweet for my palate. My boyfriend got another kind of pad Thai dish that was very similar to mine, and it was equally as good as far as I know, I don't know if ive ever experienced 'real' Thai food but it was pretty good. My other friend who accompanied us got and egg noodle dish with an AMAZING broth sauce, i believe it was called the egg( something ) delight, --the number was I-5-- and that was probably closer to 'authentic' than what my boyfriend and I had. For lunch Thai Ocha is only open from 11-3 and then I assume they clean up and get ready for a dinner rush but they have separate lunch and dinner prices for a good portion of their menu.
