For months we waited for this place to open. We came in for dinner last night. It's small on the inside but they do have seating in the heated patio. As it was cold, we decided to eat inside. The limited tables were full so we sat at the empty sushi bar. The fact that the sushi counter was completely empty and there was no Thai food scent in the air, made me nervous. My husband said it's probably because of the good vents in the kitchen. But as the food went by us on many occasions, I didn't get a whiff of any pungent Thai spices. I wanted to start with Thai iced tea but they didn't have any. We ordered... Jasmin hot tea (tasted like dirty water) Friend spring rolls (good) Grilled salmon roll (dry with no flavor) Thai house salad with peanut dressing (good) Bowl of Hot and Sour soup (thin and tangy) Mango sticky rice (good) Service is good but the food is so boring that I had to ask for lemons and Sriracha to make our food edible. If you're looking for sushi, it doesn't exist here. If you're looking to eat Thai food, it's way too Americanized to taste like actual Thai food. The kitchen staff works quick and fast. There's a girl that was directing the kitchen staff and rushing the process. Not a good idea as they may forget an ingredient or two. I think that's what happened to the salmon roll. I had the chicken Pad Thai. What I got looked nothing like the pictures. It was a clump of cut noodles with a little chicken and green onions. There were no bamboo shoots or anything else other than a small cup of nuts. The clump of noodles were dry and all stuck together. First time I used a knife to cut chicken pad Thai dish. I just tried this restaurant for the first time. They have a nice, comfortable ambiance with good easy listening live music. I had a craft cocktail which was good but not a $16 kind of cocktail place. I ordered soup which was $12 with no protein. The flavor was pretty good but I was disappointed that they used canned mushrooms in a soup that mushrooms are the main ingredient. It had tomatoes which were very different, but actually good. The doctor said that apparently the Cook didn't wash their hands after going to the bathroom and that's how I got it most likely. That is absolutely disgusting. Went to Thai Won On this past Wednesday. It was pouring rain but the dining room was full. However, there was only one waiter, Zach. He did his best, running from table to table, but he could hardly take our orders due to the super loud piano l player/singer. Forget conversing with your table mates. Most unpleasant. The food was good, but the heat intensity is ranked from one to ten. I asked for a 4, but I think they forgot about the spice because my dish was so bland I could have fed it to an infant. I had previously been to the restaurant for lunch, and it was wonderful. The new remodel is absolutely stunning and I was looking forward to returning with friends for dinner. I have been debating whether to try this place due to the mixed reviews on Yelp. It is in an assuming area next to a CVS away from other eateries. I find it a convenient place for takeaway when my parents visit from Hawaii. There are not many places that combine Japanese and Thai cuisines so I because my mother likes Thai food and I enjoy Japanese food this restaurant is a nice compromise. The only negative about this restaurant are the high prices. They most likely cater to the neighborhood it is located in because they are in a good position for takeaway services. I do not live in this area so I tend to get Thai food from a small place on El Camino real in Encinitas for better prices. For example: the fish specialities run about 20 USD per dish and the menu isn't very encouraging that this is a unique dish that I can make at home. For dishes that use an inexpensive fish such as sole, paying almost 20 USD for the dish isn't appealing. The curry dishes are reasonably priced and the serving is good enough for dinner and lunch the next day. The rolls are nicely priced. The rice is good enough. I do not expect a Thai Japanese fusion restaurant to blow me away with their sushi. The papaya salad was not spicy as requested but spices are given on the side in case you change your mind. I found it rare that this dish was not served with fresh cabbage. First time this dish was lacking it. The papaya shreds were not as fresh as I have had in other places. read more

I've been getting takeout from Thai One On every other week for the last few months of this dumb pandemic. It's the best Thai food close to La Costa, they're usually pretty quick, and they're super friendly. We do straight Thai food takeout when we go. My wife won't eat take out sushi. It's usually a mix of Pad Woon Sen, Pad See Eww, Drunken Noodles, and some curry dish. The only complaint we've ever had was that the Drunken Noodles were crazy spicy one time. There's something about a noodle dish that has a little bit of extra sauce on it. Not to much it's overpowering, but just a leetle extra. Thai On One gives it that little extra. From a Covid/safety standpoint: They have a clean and dirty pen pile at the front of the restaurant so you can feel safe about touching the pen. I've seen a couple of cooks and waiters with masks that were on their faces for show and not effect, but that's been pretty minimal. One gal had the plastic mask that barely covers her mouth and it has holes in it. Clearly, that's not up to CDC recommendations. I'm not eating in, so that doesn't bother me so much. read more

Came in here for lunch just looking for something different from the norm walked in and it was kinda empty they sat me outside which was pretty cool to get fresh air. Everyone was friendly and finally decided on the drunken spicey noodles #7 spicey with chicken. I am not even home yet and had to write about this hidden gem of a restaurant! Even more so today you want to have delicious food, great service and lovely ambiance when dining out. Thai One On Restaurant will NOT disappoint! My husband and I enjoyed the Half Moon Ton and Golden Flower Pastries appetizers, then Orange Roughy main course and Pad Thai. They have a wonderful selection of beer on draft which was a nice treat for my husband. The wine selection had some good offerings. Our server Ashley was attentive and kind. If you appreciate live music and a classy setting then GO. First time here with my family. The service was very slow. The food was awful. We had the Pad Thai with Chicken and the drunken noodles with beef. I was the only who ate the food. My wife couldn't even eat after taking a bite. Both noodle dishes were very dry and tasted very old. Luckily my daughter just ate white rice and my son just ate the chicken sate. Meh. Ok the pros, they deliver. We didn't realize when we ordered they were in Carlsbad, but the delivery was quick and there were no problems with the ordering process. Now on to the food. We ordered the Spicy Noodle, Pepper Garlic Green Beans, Yellow Curry, Chicken Wings, and the cream cheese appetizer. The curry was my favorite. Everything else lacked flavor. I'm not a big salt person, but this food was bland. The cream cheese appetizer had zero flavor and was in dire need of at least a couple punches of salt. The only thing that sort of salvaged it was the sauce. The chicken wings looked like they were going to fly out of the box when we opened it. They did not have much flavor. The Garlic Green Beans were ok, but when we ate the left overs the next day we realized how greasy they were. Lastly, this place is pretty pricey. The noodle portion was a little light. Great little Thai spot and lovely service. More like 3.5 stars for the overall dining experience. We typically order the typical Pad Thai or Drunken Noodles but wanted to sample something different. Instead, we ordered the Pad Woon Sen and a few veggie dishes. While the food was not bad, it was a bit underwhelming for us in flavor. I did enjoy their Pineapple Curry so that's a plus there. I will definitely come back to try their specialties as I the table next to us seemed to be enjoying their dishes. We noticed they serve sushi as well so that may have to be a reason to return. Prices are similar to other Thai spots for their noodle and rice dishes, so no-issue there. They go up to $20 and up for their specialty entrees which we want to sample on a future visit. 3.5 stars. read more

I was very disappointed in the food. We ordered shrimp Pad Thai, Chicken Larb Lettuce Wraps, and Mango Sticky Rice. The Pad Thai had chicken no shrimp. The noodles were greasy and there were no bean sprouts or egg. It was quite bland. The noodles were congealed and clumped together. It was packed in a rice type container. The serving, for the price, was quite small. The lettuce wraps were tasty. But they only gave two pieces of romaine for the entire dish. The mango was ripe. But the sticky rice was hard as a rock and inedible. The coconut cream sauce was super thin and had zero flavor. For $85 I expected much more. The two stars were for the Lettuce wraps. This was a delivery, so no comment about the restaurant ambience or service. We won't won't be ordering from Thai One On again! If you want to enjoy a meal from here better "Thai One On" first. read more

The service was not the greatest. She did not look like she wanted to be there, but she got our order right. The food was alot. I got Yellow Curry and my husband got pad Thai. We both liked it. Not as delicious as our usual Thai spot in Oceanside or Poway. I love Thai Iced Tea, but the one I got tasted like plastic. It had some taste to it that was not made it great. We just had dinner here and were very disappointed in the food quality and service. We arrived for happy hour at 4:45 pm. We ordered two appetizers from the 3-6 pm, Monday-Friday, happy hour menu that was standing on the table: Golden Flower Pastries and Half Moon Ton. I pointed to the happy hour $5 beer price and ask the waiter to describe the options, since there was no list of available beer options on the menu. He brought over a list and we each ordered a Modelo. We then ordered Pad Thai with shrimp from the regular menu. The appetizers arrived at room temperature followed by a greasy, glob of noodles that were impossible to separate. The interior of the glob was still warm but the exterior was ice cold. The shrimp were placed along the side and were rubbery. We ate the shrimp and a small fraction of the noodles. We ate 1/2 of each appetizer and at 5:45 pm we asked for our check. We took nothing home. I couldn't imagine reheating any of it. The check arrived and my husband put his credit card on top of it. Normally, we assume the bill is correct and we rarely look at it. Something told me to check. We had been changed fully with no credit for the happy hour savings which created a $14 overcharge. I mentioned the error to the waiter and the manager arrived table side. She was quite abrasive and insisted I ordered full sized appetizers from the regular menu and I had to pay for them. I explained to her I had pointed to the Happy Hour menu when I ordered and there was no indication that the Happy Hour portions were smaller. We paid and left. We aren't going back. I will dispute the overcharge with my credit card. We had anticipated a pleasant evening after a day of multiple medical appointments. We were very disappointed. read more

The Seafood Combo Stir-fried Mixed Vegetables were okay enough to satisfy my craving. The Drunken Spicy Noodles were okay and I like that mock dock is available, although I would have preferred it crispier. The Fried Tofu was fried just right and arrived in good condition despite it being delivered instead of eaten on the spot in the restaurant. The Green Papaya Salad was a major disappointment because it was essentially flavorless. It had only sweet, no spice. What's the point without spiciness contrasting against just a little sweetness? The restaurant forgot to include the Vegetable Crispy Rolls we ordered. The prices a little too high. After adding on the too-high DoorDash fees and tip for the delivery person, the price is really too high. Overall, I give it three stars for what the restaurant got right and what it got wrong combined with the prices. I was satisfied enough, though, that when I am jonesing for Thai food, I might be willing to give Thai One On another try. It depends on whether or not I find a better place before then. read more

They look like they have some good smoothie and boba options too, I've tried the mango but I'm excited to try the other flavors. Last night, I dined at Thai One On for the first tine, and chose seating at the bar over a table so that I could enjoy a 12-course omakase dinner with wine pairings. The experience of sitting at the bar and watching Chef Aaron prepare all the dishes, was heightened by chefs creativity and personality. It is very clear how much he enjoys preparing and perfecting every dish - and getting to know him and having him share what he was preparing made the dinner even more enjoyable. The creativity of the food presented in every plate was stunning and it was hard to not want to take a photo of every dish. I also enjoyed chatting with Tristin who was showing us the items he was preparing for our meal. The quality of the fish that we tasted was of the highest quality, and owner John proudly shared his experience with sourcing great quality fish, the majority of which comes from outside of the States. I really enjoyed chatting with him about Tsukiji, the largest fish market in the world. His passion and knowledge also added to the evening. The courses: - Japanese yellowtail with Kikutsuyu 2-year aged soy sauce with dashi - Norwegian salmon with thinly shaved onions and Bonita shavings -House-made potato chip with tempura fried halibut, vinegar, wasabi oil with honey and lime served on Japanese newsprint - Hawaiian bigeye tuna sashimi with 4-year-old barrel soy sauce - Chilean sea bass in a dashi broth - Albacore in Garlic and Serrano chili butter - Puget Sound clam in ponzu citrus sauce with green onions. - Spanish mackerel with freshly grated garlic and ponzu sauce - Toro with soy sauce - Cold smoked Norwegian salmon with river eel. - Crab roll - Ball of chocolate, fried bananas in rice paper, homemade vanilla ice cream with an infused salt I was looking forward to the meal, but I was certainly not expecting to be served such high-quality sushi or see so much creativity on the plates. We recently moved to La Costa and Thai One On quickly became one of our go-to lunch spots. Their Kua Kai Noodles and Cashew Chicken dish are favorites. The flavor and the portions are big so I often have amazing leftovers to look forward to. Server Erika is really wonderful, she made sure we had everything we needed and even offered some water to our pooch.
