I have gotten spoiled by the Thai restaurants in San Francisco, so I've been comparing all the other Thai places in America to them. One of the places I like is King's Thai Cuisine on Clement St in SF. As for this place, it was good and cheap! Thai food can be pricy around here and the portions small. This place was tasty and the portions were large. Dishes ordered were the fried pork/shrimp dumplings, drunken spaghetti, drunken noodles, and prakow beef. I got the drunken noodles for carryout and got 3 meals out of it. I think one gets a little more for carryout than dine in. I found out about this place from a Thai place who told me the portions were larger than your usual DC/VA/MD Thai restaurant and it was true. The location is a turn off especially at night. Next time I go in the evening, I will park within sight of PA Avenue. In regard to Sunday hours despite what is published online, they are not open for lunch. read more

Ordered chicken pad thai and pad see ew and they were pretty mediocre. the pad thai was really dry and didn't have very much flavor. the pad see ew noodles were overcooked and again flavor was just ok. read more

I was skeptical about ordering from this place; when we arrived my coworker and I had the same look on our face and the same thought crossed out mind. There was a terrible odor in the restaurant but we got our food anyway. I ordered the Pad See Ew and it was delicious one of the best that I've had. They delivered and it was pretty quick. I think they arrived about 45 minutes after we placed the order. So...THE PORTIONS ARE HUGE! I mean I ate some of it for dinner, some for lunch the next day and then there were still 2 more meals!! That was the white girl go-to dish of pad thai. We also got peanut chicken skewers, I think. I forget now, but they were good. My girlfriend got the drunken noodles and that was good too. Also equaled four meals for her. For the amount of food you get the prices are good. I love the Drunken Spaghetti! Didn't think I would, but I do. The owners are so nice and offered me a taste if that and the Thai sweet tea as I waited for my order and I loved both. It's a bit tricky to get there and I drove by them for almost a year and didn't realize they were there. If you can stop by, don't worry about the parking signs for the liquor store-it's closed, so feel free to park in front if those signs and sit in. It's very comfortable. this was my first time visiting thai orchid kitchen, and despite the neighborhood the food is wonderful ! I stop there on my way back home from work on the day of the earthquake , and I discovered that thier pineapple fried rice, and shrimp wraps were more than pleasing. the food was prepared fresh, fast and the service was good and polite . Great authentic Thai food. My favorites are the basil fried rice and drunken noodles; seafood or chicken. As others have mentioned not so great for dine in, I usually do takeout or delivery. So annoyed. So this is my little review of the Thai Orchid place beside the old Morton's. Order food for me and my daughter today at 6:09 pm. Took our time to get there as to give then plenty of time. Got there like 6:30 pm and literally stood there for close to 10 minutes with no one greeting us. Finally about 6:40 pm a man comes through the front door, takes off his coat, and goes behind the register. I mention to him the my daughter and I had been standing at the counter for close to 10 minutes with no one asking if we needed help, assistance or what color the sky was. He stated they were unusually busy. Fast forward another 10 min and I approached the counter to explain that what is the purpose of ordering online if when you arrive the food is still no done. He again stated they were busy and he had to leave out. I then said, well if you are the person at the counter and need to leave then someone is supposed to fill in. There were two people who walked back and forth without saying a word. He then said that only one is an employee. The other one is a friend. So here I am thinking that because you know him does that mean he is able to walk back and forth into the kitchen and bring out food for his table. Again, I tried to explain that yes you may have had to leave out and go to the store, you still have to leave someone in charge. He then told me that I was not listening to him and that they do not have enough people. At this time, I responded to my daughter that we are leaving. Left the food and walked out. Won't be going there again. Perfect example of the customer is always right even when the customer is not right. But in this case, yes, we as the customers were right. Won't be going back GOOD THAI AND SEE YOU LATER. 1. You don't leave the restaurant unattended. 2. You don't have customers getting their own food from the kitchen. Health code violation. 3. I probably couldn't recommend dining in here--they've added a huge TV to the dining room that only further detracts from the spartan setting--but the food is still very good. Today I discovered their LarbTofu, the veggie version of Larb Gai (a Thai standard--salad with chopped chicken or beef, sliced red onions, and plenty of lime, vinegar and sugar). It was truly amazing, the best Thai dish I've had in ages. The curries are less exciting, but they are always fresh and reliable. Plush this is a family business in a part of town that needs decent restaurants. It would be worth supporting for that reason alone, but I continue to come for the food. read more

This is hands down a hidden gem in DC! We moved here in January and as I was checking yelp found this place! The reviews were good so we tried it out. Not only did we love the food but the owners & staff were super helpful. Our order whether dine in or carry out was always hot, fresh and correct. Being new to the area we tried a lot of new places but this is our favorite. Its off the beaten path but well worth the effort if you aren't on their side of DC! I can't express in words how great this place is. As we are moving again out of the area this is where we are eating before we leave! WE LOVE the pad thai, curry puffs dumplings and drunken noodles! The food was great!! We had drunken noodles and panang curry - not peanut butter curry, but real, creamy panang curry. Delicious! The three stars if for the driver who made me come outside to meet her, then walk to her car over ice and snow to get the food out of her open window. While I am visibly 7 months pregnant. 2 years ago, I'd have rated TOK a 5 Star, having been to Thailand and tasted their delicious recipes. Last two times I ordered delivery, I have been very disappointed. How in the H are you an authentic Thai restaurant, and screw up plain white rice??? Seriously? Soggy, overcooked and frankly unedible. Threw it straight into the garbage. I called to complain and "the owner/manager, Vernon" promised he would talk to the guys in the kitchen, and next time I ordered ask for him and he will give me some "extras." We are blessed to have this as our local take-out. Food here is as good as any I've had anywhere, including in Thailand and in much fancier (and more expensive) places here in DC. My favorites are the larb gai (it does get spicy), dumplings, crispy squid dinner, tilapia basil, and drunken noodles. The owners, their kids, and all the staff are all super friendly. One star for the wonderful staff, and another star for the delicious sticky rice. The main dishes, however, had me wanting my money back at the first bite. I gave this restaurant a chance twice, wanting to support my neighborhood businesses. The first time I ordered (sweet and sour), they put pickles in it, which is not on the menu and it was just a strange taste (but at least it had sauce on it). It was delivered and my sticky rice was rock solid by the time it arrived. I picked up my second order hoping to at least get not-cold sticky rice, but the pineapple fried rice made me think someone white attempted to make ethnic food. It tasted like they just threw some toppings together and put it in the microwave before placing it in my bag. I could barely taste any sauce; not tasty at all. I was so disappointed because I LOOOOOVE Thai food. Maybe it tastes better when you sit down to eat, but, sad to say, I will never patronize this restaurant again. I will instead order real Thai food where I work and bring it home next time. read more
