This isn't my first visit to a Thai Orchid restaurant but there was a big difference between the other one I visited. This one doesn't have a lot of seating but still very comfortable. I would guess that most of the business here is take out or delivery. I waited less than twenty minutes from placing my order to pickup. There were grub hub drivers coming in and out the whole time, kinda felt bad for the people dining in. If you like curry I recommend this restaurant. They make some really good curry here. read more

My favs here are the curries and anything Kaprow. If you want something spicy, ask for them to alter your dish. Otherwise you can get fill a tiny plastic ramekin with fish sauce, or Thai chili sauce, vinegar etc before you leave. After trying the the three curries on the menu many times and forgetting the differences, I splurged and ordered all 3 at once to do the ultimate taste test. From my favorite to least, although for the record I enjoy all 3 about equally: -Red curry: To me this is the typical Thai curry you can find in any American Thai restaurant. It's traditional, it's flavorful, and the coconut milk really comes through. It's on the sweet side because of the pineapple. Also has a hint of spice. -Green: It has a early flavor that makes me wonder if there's more lemongrass in this dish compared to the others. However, this curry adds basil as a major component. Hence the name and color. Low to no heat. -Panang (yellow): This one is very nutty because it incorporates peanuts. Beware if you have a peanut allergy! This is probably my new favorite Thai place in the area. I've seen it several times but, never stopped because of the location. I ordered: - pineapple fried rice - krapow with the ground chicken and string beans - pumpkin curry - mango and sticky rice - Tom yum soup - Tom kha soup - mango sticky rice Everything tasted good. I only rated the establishment a 4 because the krapow dish was only suppose to come with ground chicken and they added shrimp to the dish. Absolutely love Thai Orchid every time we stop in! Located right off the interstate on Pennsylvania Ave. SE, the hidden gem is nuzzled off the main road! The owner is a member of the community and is very personable. He engages with each patron and is super friendly. The food is all made fresh to order, welcoming of modifications, and can be made for any dietary preference. Priced well for Thai food, the portions are large enough for leftovers! There only down side is the lack of parking if it's a busy night. But, they do offer delivery and you can order for pick up! I've been here quite a few times over the years. Good, tasty, hot, fresh Thai food east of the river...? THE END. No competition here. It's hard getting niche, ethnic food on this side of the town. They got a bit of an upgrade recently. It appears to help solidify its presence as a sit down restaurant. Before, it had a dining room feel, but patrons weren't sure whether to relax and dine in or if this was a different style "carry out". There's no guessing with the new set up. The tables and chairs are more polished and there is a section of seats lining the wall near the counter for patrons getting food to go. Everything I've gotten is exceptionally good (drunken noodles), but my pad see ew that I love didn't hit the spot for me. Still love the place over and over. Friendly service to boot. read more

I've passed Thai Orchid Kitchen a gazillion times. It's on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE DC going towards DC just before you turn to get on 295. Finally stopped in after researching places close to Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC) before going to a play there for DC Black Theatre & Arts Festival. It's delicious Thai food. The Drunken Noodles (usually my barometer) was on point. Got it with Crispy Salmon. Very simple restaurant. Very nice service. And, I didn't mind that they don't have a bar. read more

Just east of the Anacostia lies this small Thai place, a convenient stop on the way in or out of DC (though if you're going out as I was, some fairly complex turnarounds are required). My stop yielded not only some tasty (if oily) drunken noodles, but a rare tofu laab. This salad (loosely defined) consisted mostly of fried tofu in some lime flavored sauce. It is certainly a decent enough place to eat in; not just a pure takeout place. They were, however, quick and efficient with the takeout part. read more

So this is in the hood, I would have never came here unless one of the locals brought me. However, the food is wonderful- actually amazing. I had the vegetarian Drunken noodles, Chicken Basil Fried Rice, and Papaya Salad. The Papaya Salad needed heat, but the drunken noodles and Fried Rice was sooo sooo yummy. I've been a Thai Orchid customer for YEARS. It hands down is the best thai I have had in DC that is not overcharged. Flavorful and generous in portions. The owners are lovely and kind. I moved away from DC and still think about this place and come back whenever I'm in town. Don't let the neighborhood fool you (the people are kind) this is worth several visits. While in the midst of unpacking frenzy, my fiancé and I were craving Thai food and found Thai Orchid was near us. We got their food delivered and were happy with it! Thai Orchid's menu is extensive and all the prices were extremely reasonable for the amount of food you got. Unfortunately, Yelp Eats does not deliver to our area but another delivery service does and we ordered from them. Even though we got the food delivered, it remained hot when it arrived. We ordered a vegetable Tom Yum soup, Pad See Ew with chicken, and spicy fried rice with crispy chicken. All of these were ordered at a medium spice level which was fairly hot, but tolerable in between sips of water. When our food came, wow, the amount of food was a lot, and we were thankful for that! I think we were able to make three meals out of what we ordered! Everything was extremely delicious; it was some of the best Thai food I've ever had. The noodles for the Pad See Ew were the largest sized noodles ever which made my heart so happy. My only complaint was the crispy chicken in the fried rice as it was over cooked and hard to chew. The pieces of chicken were thinly cut and fried which makes sense as to why it was over cooked. I would've preferred that chicken to be in larger chunks so the inside can remain moist. Despite that, I would definitely order from them again because the rest of the meal was just that good. read more

Spot on! We've ordered from here before but after dinner last night I was compelled to come and write a review. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and had layers of comforting, feel good flavors. The larb salad is a refreshing, citrusy medley of lettuce, red onions, lime juice and tofu. It tasted very fresh and the combination of heat and lime was second to none. I highly recommend that everybody try larb salad, because it will not disappoint. The drunken noodles had amazing flavor, fresh vegetables and the flat noodles were irresistible. This place has mastered balancing out sweet, savory and spicy notes. We ended with the Panang curry which was so rich in flavor. This is definitely one of the better Thai places in DC read more

I can get behind a restaurant that has good reviews and is across the river. That's why my wife surprised me by taking me here on a date night. We are huge fans of Thai food and have exhausted the good Thai options in DC. This place has great ratings so we had to try it out. I wish I could give this place a 5 star rating, but I promised to always be honest. There is more than enough seating here, but the atmosphere does NOT encourage you to stay. Since it was empty when we went, I assume no one stays to use the tables. When my wife and I walked it, it was not clear how to order. After waiting for a few minutes, the owner came out and was then SUPER helpful. He is really nice! The food was normal Thai food. Nothing to write home about. Absolutely delicious Thai food in a friendly, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere in southeast DC. the sampler platter appetizer was quite scrumptious: curry puffs, spring rolls, crispy shrimp, chicken and dumplings served with peanut sauce, sweet and sour sauce and soy. For the entree, I ordered the drunken spaghetti, which was absolutely fantastic. Perfectly al dente spaghetti, spiced and cooked with greens and the protein of your choice (my beef was quite tender and delicious). Unfortunately, they've raised their prices several times over the last 6 months and now it actually makes more sense to drive or pay for delivery from other spots across town! I fully understood price volatility throughout the pandemic (and even increased my patronage), and even now in the midst of rising inflation...but 25-30% increases over just a few months is a bit less understandable. I've ordered them twice through Eat 24. Somewhat inconsistent; one time they delivered quickly and another time it was a little slow and it arrived missing an item (the restaurant failed to even notice that). They also charge a delivery fee regardless of how much you order, which is annoying. The lemongrass vegetable soup iss solid, with big vegetables and a light, tasty broth. The house salad was fine, and came with some tasty dressings. The dumplings were some of the best I've had in DC, fluffy and fully of meat. I wasn't quite as wowed by the basil fried rice as some other reviewers, but it was a solid dish and that can pack some nice heat. The pad Thai and drunken noodles are pretty good, but I don't think this revolutionized the dish. The Thai iced tea is delicious and helps cool your palate. It's some of the better Thai I've had in DC, although there's a little room for improvement. read more

This place is amazing. Really good and authentic Thai food even in comparison to food I actually had in Thailand. I've had their pad Kee mow (drunken noodles), Panang curry, and spicy Basil. All were delicious and perfectly spiced. I left a few notes on my Uber eats request and they always read them and get the notes right. This review is only for their delivery/take out, as I have never been to the actual location. They have a pretty wide delivery area, esp. compared to the Barracks Row and other Penn Ave take out places. The food is phenomenally good! They are missing some standbys on their menu, but everything I've ordered from here has been excellent. What I construe as very flavorful might be considered a smidge intense by others, however, and I've been sticking to the basics. They use online ordering systems that are easy to navigate (Foodler, delivery.com). You can also make special requests in your online order, and they've accommodated me the few times I have done so (eg. extra bamboo in my curry please! no utensils, we'll use our own). Thus far I've had the green curry, pad thai, pad sew ew (made with broccoli instead of gai lan), fried tofu (my absolute fave with sweet peanut sauce), and tom yum chicken (a must order! very lemongrassy). Dumplings are really good but very small. I still need to try their crispy basil and rice dishes. Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee are both solid, although I wish they wouldn't use so much packaging transporting it (they give you two styrofoam cups with lids, one filled with ice, one filled with the coffee/tea). My bf always orders the Mango Tango, so my guess is it's good. Standard charging more for seafood/shrimp v tofu, pork, beef, or chicken. Standard wings and french fries also available. $1 delivery charge, $15 minimum. Their prices are a smidge higher than i would like for dinner delivery/takeout($10/12/entree), but the prices are really good for lunch (usually $8/entree)!My only other qualm is that they're not open Sundays. 4.5 stars read more

This place proves that you can never judge a meal and/or experience by an address. A few people told me about it but I'll admit I didn't think much of it based on the location. Boy, was I wrong. The customer service was awesome. Everyone, including the gentleman I believe was the owner, was so nice. From what I understand, the interior was recently updated. Not sure what it looked like before but it's nice and clean. There's seating available and a couple tvs affixed to the wall if you want to dine in. While it is located on busy Pennsylvania Ave, you might be able to grab one of the few parking spaces between the restaurant and the nearby gas station. I picked up my food but they also have delivery. We ordered the Basil Fried Rice, spring rolls and the drunken noodles. Everything was delicious. The fried rice and spring rolls weren't too greasy as you make expect with other fried options. To kick it up a notch, there's a variety of spices available on the counter near the register. You can grab whatever you'd like to take your meal to the next level. I'll be back to try more items...might be my new favorite takeout place. read more
