What a great lunch spot! I had never heard of all you can eat Thai until today. I must admit, my expectations were low- after all, how can Thai taste good when it's stuck in a steam table all day? Well, they do it in Thailand, so why not in LA? The takeway: solid food for a great price. Get your curries, salads, noodles, and fruit all for around $10. Local and authentically Thai are the feelings I had sampling the menu. Maybe not the absolute best Thai food in BR, but I am a fan. The fish and soup dishes stood out as fiery and flavor packed. Good for the soul on a hot night in Louisiana or to keep a winter night in check. Be sure to get the Thai iced tea or Thai iced coffee to cool your palate down. The best way to get the full experience is the lunch buffet which has tons of options at a great price. Fast paste lunch service for this buffet. Very flavorful food at a great price. If you're not into spicy food I'd probably go elsewhere but this is expected for most Thai cuisine. For being so busy I felt the cleanliness (cups and silverware) lacked just a hair but not enough to keep me from going. I've been many times and will continue to patronize these folks. You have to come here for the weekend (starting with Friday) buffet. While I have never been here Mon-Thurs, I was told that the weekend buffet had more items. One of those items is the cinnamon pork, which I absolutely love and would come back over and over again for. The rest of the buffet is pretty darn good. I like how their curry have a spicy kick and it really goes well with the fried rice. Meal - Lunch Food - 3.5/5 Service - 5/5 Ambiance - 2.5/5 Cleanliness - 5/5 Finding decent Thai food (or any cuisine that is not either of the fast or non-Cajun variety) is a challenge in the South. So needless to say I have been dying to try the Thai Pepper for quite some time. We arrived for a late lunch. We were greeted warmly by the host and offered a table for two. The restaurant and the restrooms where remarkably clean. The decor was simple with a very southern feel but altogether pleasant to the eye and comfortable. Not a bad start for a casual dining experience. Lunch was served buffet style. I'm not a fan of buffet but I was willing to give it a shot. I was not disappointed. Pros and Praise - A rather large variety of both meat/vegetable dishes ranging from Mild to Med heat. The coconut soup was quite tasty with tender pieces of chicken and vegetables in a mildly sweet coconut broth with hints of lime. The yellow curry was good over the well-prepared brown rice. A little more of that fantastic Thai heat would have been appreciated but forgivable in buffet food. The ginger chicken was pleasant with lots of peppers and a surprising kick at the end. The fresh fruit was also a nice touch to cleanse the pallet between trips to the buffet for something new. I finished my meal with a mildly-sweet, creamy Thai tea. It was quite good and an excellent was to round out a spicy meal. Cons and Consequences - I was disappointed with the Pad Thai. The onions, egg, and other ingredients were completely lost in a mass of over-cooked rice noodles. It had some of those fun conflicting flavors that comes with good Pad Thai but little in the way of color or diversity. I'm not a fan of fish in general so I'll leave it up to others to comment. There was some fried foods available but chose to stick to other more exotic dishes. The jellies and tapioca were forgettable. The service was incredible. Our waiter checked in regularly to ensure we were doing well. Dishes were removed quickly and our water glasses were always full. The cost of our meal was very reasonable. $7.80 per person plus $1.95. Grand total was $19.50. All-in-All - The excellent friendly service and surprisingly good lunch buffet showed me this place has a lot of potential for future meals. I will be returning soon to give some of this exotic food (for the South) another try. Surprisingly good food. I never eat buffet style food because it is usually not as good as the normal menu food at most places but here that is not the correct assumption. The food was easily normal menu quality and there are enough options to enjoy any flavor you're feeling inclined to. Sweet, spicy, sour, savory, they have a dish for all; likewise if you're vegetarian they will have plenty of options for you. The stuff was likewise very friendly and provided fast service and filled glasses often. The only down side to Thai Pepper is their parking is very limited for the demand and they can often times be without enough seating. Overall I highly recommend giving Thai Pepper a try. read more

I went here last night and enjoyed it so much I came here again. This is the ideal restaurant for me while on a business trip. Healthy balanced meal with lots of fresh vegetables, big flavours, and good portion size. This is a place that also really listens to you when you ask for it spicy. Be warned (or get excited): Extra Spicy means *extra* spicy - but delicious. My personal favourite of all the dishes I tried was the papaya salad. Fresh green papaya, shredded and crisp with green beans, carrots and tomato. The dressing is mostly (or perhaps completely) oil free and has fantastic flavour balance. Blazingly hot, deliciously sour, sweet, and with an umami hit from fish sauce. Definitely recommend it. One of the best papaya salads I've had. read more

I had dinner here on Friday night with my husband and it was mixed experience. We went there around 7 and the place was completely deserted. I wasn't sure what to expect and the husband wanted to beat it and go someplace more populated. But so many friends had recommended it that I felt I had to ignore the empty tables and try the food. I'm so glad I did! We ordered the chicken pad thai noodles and the green chicken curry with white rice. My noodles were spicy....just the way I like them and came loaded with sprouted beans and peanuts. The quantity was enough for a big meal for one person. The curry was medium spiced and very delicious. The only suggestion I have for the cook is to dice the chicken thinner and cut it into bite size pieces. We were only given a fork at the table and I guess we were too hungry to ask for a knife and so it was a bit of a problem dealing with those huge chicken bits. The service was quick and friendly without being intrusive, and the bathroom is big and clean. Oh and I left with leftovers which I had go. What more can one ask for in a small local restaurant! I'm going back next time for the buffet. Pity they only have that on weekdays. **update** I also got a chance to try their lunch buffet. In two words..pretty good! They had basil chicken, spicy fried fish bites, some other deep fried stuff, fried teriyaki chicken type dish, pad thai noodles with chicken, veggie noodles, rice, green curry chicken, cinnamon pork, and a few other veggie items. Try their fruit dessert...it's really awesome and I liked it more than the black sticky rice pudding. It's less than $10 per person and a really good deal! read more

First off- this is not the best thai food I've ever had (not even close) but it is the first thai buffet I've had. For $8.50 (for lunch) you get a lot of options- several curries (mmm coconut milk), pad thai, basil chicken, tom yum soup (yum indeed), spring rolls, grilled chicken and tons of other options. You can get white or brown rice. For dessert, there is fresh fruit and a tapioca coconut milk thing which looks kind of like a pureed cod fish and its eggs but I recommend it. I didn't get sick. This little spot has got great Togo service (based on current trends). I ordered the spicy green chicken, zucchini, peanut sauce. Wished it had actual peanut toppings. - this is like a pad Thai only without noodles and has zucchini. This dish is something different to try if you don't want the orig pad Thai dish. Loaded with zucchini (perfectly cooked) still had stiffness in the vegetable and I can appreciate the cook keeping its integrity. No one wants woopy vegetables cooked so much it turns to mush and slime. This place knows how to cook vegetables in all dishes and seasoned quiet nicely with perfect amount spices (not overcooked) making it all flavorful. Pad see ew with beef was another choice - wish the noodles were not all Stuck together as one clump (also making it taste and giving an undress texture) but the flavor was good.. Yellow curry with chicken was superb and so was the Tom yum soup. I would like to rate this little spot 4.0 because the fresh roll was not good. The shrimp tasted like chlorine (almost had a texture like fake crab or like some sort of precooked shrimp and had a very rubbery feel. - on a positive note - The sweet lady taking orders was a precious special touch. This place serves the best Thai food I've ever had! I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu and vegetables ,yellow curry with chicken, the ginger delight with shrimp and chicken, and Thai iced tea ( one for myself and one for my mother) and everything was delicious. The food was fresh, a good size ,and not to mention flavorful. The staff was very friendly and did not rush us despite us placing our order a little late.Great prices too! I have been going to Thai Pepper since 2002ish and the food is always great. This makes me think of one of the places you would see Guy Fieri review on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Definitely worth the trip into Baton Rouge!! Service is always good and the kitchen times are really quick. If you have never been, I suggest doing the buffet to see what you like. Their red curry is my absolute favorite, chased by a Thai tea. Thai Pepper is a hidden gem and I will keep going back as long as the doors are open. read more

Food was great as always. We had dinner here before and the service was bearable, but this time we were celebrating and our group was large, 9 people (3 kids included). The lady (owner/manager & waiter, the only one there) was rude throughout. She did a lot of eye-rolling, rushed us, and literally walked away once in the middle of taking our order. She also got our order wrong, didn't bring us any plates until we requested them after the food arrived, rolled her eyes conspicuously (did I mention this already?) and spoke impatiently every time she walked up to us although we were the only people there. She kept reminding us of the time from the moment we walked in (around 7:15pm until we left a few minutes before 8:30 pm which was closing time). Strangely, she kept inviting us to try the buffet. Maybe she is not comfortable serving a large table or had a personal emergency and had to leave early? It wasn't pleasant for anyone, although we tried to laugh it off afterward. I was really embarrassed for having suggested this place for dinner. None of us could figure out what we did or said to upset her because she was like that from the moment we sat down. We all love Thai food, but will not be going back and never recommending this place to anyone again. Most of the reviews here are for the lunch buffet, but I have no plans to try it ever. Thai Pepper has the best Thai food in Baton Rouge when compared to Rama or Thai Kitchen in my opinion. Their buffet is great and pretty cheap. The only problems I have with Thai Pepper is that even when you ask for your food to be extra hot it isn't that hot and the fact that it's on Florida Blvd. As compared with the service of the other two Thai restaurants in Baton Rouge it's about on par with them, which means they are very slow. I've gone their many times and I can't put this review up without highly recommending their buffet. It is really good and reasonably priced. Went there for lunch on thursday, April 2---and it was the busiest I had ever seen it---adults of all ages and ethnic backgrounds were present. Buffet cost without drink is $9 and with drink is $11. While the buffet servings have done constants every day --there are some items out only certain days. Two soups are coconut and lemon grass; always a fried rice and a noodle selection. Also a fried type appetizer being calamari, chicken strips and or a won ton type item us spring rolldThere are 2-4 vegetarian offerings. Peanut chicken is good; cinnamon pork is better; curry chicken and a fried fish are delicious. Towards the end of the week there is a baked chicken entree; early in the week is an egg wrap with sweet potato inside; additionally there's servings with a boiled egg or split egg cooked a little differently than we are accustomed. The offerings has signs identifying what it is and more importantly whether it's mild or hot. Lastly, there's an area for desserts which are tapioca or fruit based. Also you can order Thai based drinks but I never have done so but perhaps I should read more
