    Ginger Delight with chicken
    John L. H.

If you ask for Thai hot, prepare for a delicious and hurtful meal. I have never understood people who enjoy pain. But then I realized that I like Thai hot food. Am I one of those people? There is no telling but your boy sure loves him some incredibly hot Thai food. The server looked at me with a little side eye when I ordered my food that way. But Thai hot I asked for and Thai hot is what I received. Hell yes! Bring on the heat. Thai Pepper is an incredibly popular lunch spot in BR. So popular that when we went here we saw like five other people from work here. Despite being packed, service was friendly and we received our food quickly. My entre was Ginger delight with chicken. Get this. How they were able to blend the magical flavor of all the spices and have a heat level of 1000 is impressive. If you like heat and flavor, get this. If you like flavor and no heat, get this but keep it mild. If you are wondering just how hot Thai hot was, my sinuses were completely clear, my face was red, and I was sweating like I had just walked into a Catholic Church. It was awesome and I can't wait to go back.

    Pad see ew with tofu

This is authentic Thai food. Weird, creepy location, but well worth it. Would go back should I find myself in the area. I tried veggie spring rolls and pad see ew with tofu. I took them to go, and they packed the spring rolls with a clever technique, cutting the corners out of the go-box, which allowed the steam to escape and kept them from losing their crunch! They come with a tasty dipping sauce, too. The pad see ew was delightfully savory with tons of flavor and the veggies were cooked just right. It was a little spicier than I'm used to, but I did ok with it. Been avoiding spice because of stomach issues. The portions were quite respectable--I saw other diners eating, and everyone had a heaping mound of food on their plate. The ambiance is nice; I'll eat there next time. It also looks like it's frequented by the local Thai population, which I took to be an extra badge of authenticity.

Some great food. Service was nice and it's a small family place. Definitely among the top choices for Thai food in town.

    Sizzling peanut butter

One of my absolute fav local places to eat. My go to is always the sizzling peanut with chicken, and it's to die for. Also great options are the pad Thai, sour soup, and fried rice. The service is impeccable, the owner is so sweet! And the ambiance of the building is immaculate. It's a smaller restaurant, and the interior is this beautiful wood paneling that's so calming to be surrounded by when you're eating your meal.

I love this place!!! I just recently discovered it and had fantastic service!! Staff was so kind and incredibly quick with our food. The food was delicious and some of the best thai I have had in BR. I will absolutely be back.

Great drunken noodle. You don't come here for the ambiance, but you can get a great meal for a good price. So long Rama, hello Thai Pepper.

Some really good buffet items, but a few weak items too, Dessert was authentic: sweet rice and coconut.

Apparently, they have an annual limited fixed-price menu ($48) with excellent options over three courses. Unfortunately that option was not available when we dined here in early November. So we went for the pimento cheese balls and I ordered the soup de jour which was a butternut squash bisque. Both items were savory and delicious. The pimento cheese balls is fried and served over some hibiscus pepper jelly which gives a nice sweet kick to the creaminess of the cheese. The bisque is creamy and has a nutty squash punch. We loved both very much! For entrees, I debated between the pork chop and sous vide rabbit. I went with the rabbit since I never had rabbit before (weird right?) and I'm glad I went with it. The rabbit has a nice crispy texture with a gamey taste yet the meat was quite tender when cutting into it. The apple chutney compliments the rabbit well and the butternut squash side and purple cabbage garnish make it a well-rounded dish. My friend/coworker ordered the grilled gulf fish which comes with a creamy risotto. The fish is super tender and pairs well with the risotto with an olive oil finish. We were both satisfyingly stuffed from our meal although we wish we saved room for dessert. Definitely next time! They have an extensive wine and cocktail list. The Strawberry Oaxacan is a favorite along with the Kiwi Daquiri due to the exotic fruit flavors. Sadly I couldn't snap any pictures as I was caught up in sipping my Century Oak Zinfandel. I'm glad they have a Red Zinfandel which is my preferred wine of choice as it's easy to sip and not as full-bodied. Gotta give my friend props for bringing me here. We're already talking about coming here again next time I have an assignment in Baton Rouge. I can't wait!

We really do love this place, which is why this review is disappointing to write. Unfortunately,…read moreour most recent visit was not up to the standard we've come to expect. The first issue was with the quesadillas. Both of them arrived smashed together, stuck to the paper wrapper, and neither had been cut into slices. Instead of being easy to share and eat, they were difficult to separate from the paper and ended up as one large, messy blob. I ordered the shredded chicken quesadilla and was very disappointed with the flavor. The chicken had a burnt, leftover-grill taste that made it hard to enjoy, and after one bite I couldn't finish it. It also seemed to have very little cheese, which made it feel dry and lacking the cheesy goodness you'd expect from a quesadilla. My boyfriend ordered the pork quesadilla. While it was better than the chicken, it still had an unusual off-flavor, and it had the same issues with not being sliced and sticking to the wrapper. On a positive note, the chips, salsa, and queso were excellent and ended up being the highlight of our meal. I do think the queso is a little pricey for those of us trying to stick to a budget but love to dip our quesadillas in it, but it was still very tasty. Despite this disappointing takeout experience, the employees are always kind, friendly, and welcoming. The atmosphere is warm and family-friendly, which is one of the reasons we keep coming back. We're hoping this was just an off day because we've had good experiences in the past, and we look forward to giving them another chance and hopefully updating this review with a better experience.

I'm typically a creature of habit and hate experimenting when I'm hungry, but I've definitely ventured out of my comfort zone with trying different items, and have not been disappointed thus far. The waitstaff are pleasant, friendly, and accommodating. As other reviewers have said, the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. The place tends to get crowded at peak times, so reservations have proven to be a good idea. I've also noticed that take-out is a popular option as well.

I have lived in BR for 6 years now. Many departments at LSU take guests there and in that time, Building 5 has done nothing to improve its parking lot. The restaurant sits underneath an overpass and the parking is pothole marked unpaved gravel. This means that there is no room for wheelchairs or accommodations for anyone who is differently-abled to get into the restaurant. The whole restaurant makes no room for handicapped persons. On the occasion I did get food, the food is slightly overpriced. All meats were cooked adequately but the food was lukewarm probably owing to sitting in the kitchen under the heat lamp than being delivered promptly. When I have gone, I regularly have to ask for refills on soda as I am the designated driver often for department functions. Servers pay you no heed if you do not buy alcohol. Because I go here because of academic reasons, I would barely go here myself. I've been here many times and found it wanting. It's an ableist place in its infrastructure. It's fine I'm atmosphere as a cocktail bar but would little recommend it to people I call friend.
