My husband and I eat from Thai peppers almost weekly. Their delivery is fast, and we frequently carry out as well (pro tip: there are free parking spots around the back). We typically get the kra prow with either pork or chicken and it is excellent. Their spring rolls are a bit greasy, but they come with 4 in an order which is really large compared to other Thai places. I decided to give this place a try one evening when I had a cold and wanted some spicy comfort food. The most recent reviews all pointed to this place making improvements recently, but I'm sorry to say it was completely underwhelming. The details: -It took 1.25 hours for the delivery guy to show up. Granted it was a Saturday evening and they did say on the phone that it would be an hour, but I live a half mile away. Had I not been sick I would've definitely picked it up myself. -I ordered the chive dumplings which looked like little turds--seriously unappetizing. They tasted ok but nothing spectacular. -The entree was basil shrimp (pad kra pow), and when I opened it I couldn't believe how small the portion was. One thing I like about Asian takeout is that there's usually enough leftovers god lunch the next day- not the case here. The flavor was ok but for $13 I expected more. Bottom line: not worth the $24 between the wait, the small portion size and mediocre flavor. Save your money! read more

I agree with those who say this place is bland. There are always "benchmark dishes" one can try to get a feel for a place, and for me personally, Pad Thai would be such a dish for Thai restaurants. I ordered the Pad Thai tonight, and it was just tired-looking and bland-tasting. I couldn't taste much of the peanut sauce at all -- the predominant flavor was the faint sweet-and-sour sauce on the noodles. The beef was dry, and some pieces were chewy even. The menu selection is also very ordinary -- no specialty that one can point to. As another reviewer pointed out - for those prices (a bit over $10 including tax for the Pad Thai), you can certainly find better-tasting Thai food elsewhere in Alexandria. The only redeeming thing is that it's quaint-looking, and in a quaint neighborhood, but I'm not really there to admire the scenery either! Had an early dinner one Friday evening here; tried the taster plate of appetizers (chicken satay, shrimp rolls, spring rolls, fried tofu puffs) along with pad king ahn, washed down with a Heineken and glass of Riesling, and for dessert a serving of Thai custard with sticky rice (a delicious sweet and rich creamy dish that the two of us shared). Our overall feeling was that there is much spicier, more interesting Thai restaurants in DC, but this was fair enough and the price was less than in DC and the service was fair and friendly enough. The bits of Thai decor are interesting. There is outdoor eating area and a first floor eating area that is wheelchair accessible but since the toilets are upstairs (steep!) makes this place not-wheelchair accessible. read more

I want to like this place. But the experience was nothing spectacular. It is a cozy-looking spot in the heart of Del Ray, with a nifty outdoor section. But with all of the other Thai options in the area, Thai Peppers comes up short - in service, and quality. The staff seemed to be more attentive to the people sitting outside and upstairs. It took far too long for drink refills, and the party at the table next to me started looking anxious as they waited about 20 minutes for the entrees to arrive. And we were in the main room next to the kitchen. I've never been to a restaurant that doesn't have salt and pepper on the table. Didn't feel like waiting five minutes for the shakers to arrive, so I dove into my entree (broccoli and tofu in peanut sauce) without pepper. Another table next to us had to flag down a server to get sauces for the appetizers. My entree was meh - I'm not an expert on tofu, but I've had it at several other Thai restaurants around town, and the tofu here seemed, what's the word, stale. The peanut sauce was more like Mexican mole sauce - really heavy duty stuff. Thai Shirlington really blows this place away, in quality and service. read more

My mom and I came in for a late lunch and ordered from the wok corner section on the menu. I got the chicken RP7 (Pad-Khing-On) and my mom got the tofu RP3 (Pad-Kra-Pow). Our dishes were so delicious! The sauce is so good and when paired with rice it is even better. The wait staff is very polite and attentive. The store is on the corner and has a nice vibe to it. Being half-Thai I can be a Thai food snob...but I'm happy with these guys as a regular customer, because they bring it to my house! Although we do eat in the restaurant we definitely use them for delivery the majority of the time, and my review is more based on that. Delivery Thai in Del Ray is a good thing to have. When we do eat in I love the service...friendly, in nice weather there's the patio. And really friendly staff. Small place though, but it's Del Ray. Delivery is always fast and delicious, although I wish they could keep their basil duck crispier. Basically don't order that delivery. Things they do deliver well that you think might not travel - spring rolls. Unlike every Chinese place in the area these guys now how to vent to trays to get them to you crisp, and they give you four to an order. Satay they do a great job with as well, although it appears to be broiled vice grilled on flame. Yummy though and i like their peanut saucel. The entrees and curries arrive great - they use a variety of containers that are appropriate to the meal. Love them for that. I probably have 10 old containers in my Tupperware cabinet from them I still use for taking lunches to work - most of the main dishes come in them, while the noodle and rice dishes come in styrofoam. Overall, If you live in this area you have a wealth of Thai options. If I'm going to make a point of going out to eat Thai food, to be honest, I probably wouldn't come here unless I wanted to be in Del Ray - Duangrats is a few miles out, as well as Thai Square in Arlington (awesome hole-in-the-wall place on Columbia Pike!). Wow. I am thoroughly impressed. I have not been able to find a Thai restaurant that is this delicious in the DC area since I moved from Chicago 6 years ago. My whole family went, so I was able to try a bite of everything- I got the Cashew Chicken, which was absolutely to die for. Perfect seasoning, tender chicken, rice cooked perfectly. My dad got the yellow curry which was sweet with some spice to it but not too overwhelming- vegetables cooked wonderfully(I sometimes find that in a yellow curry the potatoes will be underdone) My brother got the Pad-Thai, which was sweet and fresh and tangy and everything you want in a good pad Thai, including a thick delicious coating of the sauce which I have found to be one of my main complaints when I don't like a pad Thai- is that it's too dry. My sister got the green curry (too spicy for me) but she said it was one of the best she's ever had. Along with the excellent food; the pricing was very reasonable and the service was speedy. The only complaint I had was that it was a particularly warm day and the air conditioning was not working (or was not nearly strong enough) but I am willing to overlook that because I was so happy with the food. Best spicy delivery in the Old Town/Del Ray area. I've tried every Thai restaurant in delivery distance now of my home (in north Old Town) and Thai Peppers wins hands down for the tastiest spicy food in the area. While ingredients don't taste as 'high quality' as say Thai Royal on Fayette, the flavors blend better and the portions are better. I had the Basil Stir Fry (forgetting the thai name) with calamari and asked for it 'thai spicy'----boy was it tasty. The calamari were juicy and plump, the sauce was savory, sweet, and oh-so-spicy, and the birds eye chilies were abundant. The drunken noodles (with chicken) were also quite good, and quite spicy. Just make sure you ask for things 'thai spicy' and be prepared to drink glass, after, glass of water. read more

Located in a little yellow house on the same block as the Evening Star and Bon Vivant, this family-owned spot is a must-eat in Del Ray. The patio is comfortable and has a great street view to people watch. The inside seating is cozy and decorated in vintage Thai style. The upper level has pictures of the King and Queen of Thailand, as well as some tourism posters. Simple white walls and Thai gold abound. The location is perfect for a first date, a quick bite, or a relaxing meal. The servers are great-- genuine smiles, welcoming... and you'll see the same ones time and time again. I don't know about you, dear reader, but this adds a certain bit of comfort for me to enjoy my meal and my company. Service can be a bit slow at times, but hey-- hunger is the best spice. The food is solid, though some dishes feel catered to the American palate. The Larb Gai is tasty, but not as spicy as I'm accustomed to having it. The fish cakes taste as authentic as lunch at a Wat and the Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodle) is exceptional. The true take away here is the house special "Gang Ped Yang" a savory duck curry that explodes with flavor from the first bite to the last. If you only have time or money for one dish, I would strongly suggest the aforementioned duck. Wash it all down with some Chang beer and enjoy the relatively inexpensive dinner, and you'll see why Thai Pepper has become our Thai fix in our new neighborhood. read more

I have eaten here three times and each time was good. I got the 7 dollar lunch special each time. The pad prik king is great. They seem to be real Thais based on the language and appearance (I spent one month in Thailand). If they were chinese pretending to be Thai, I would never go back. I hate it when you are looking for authentic Thai, Vietnamese, Korean or Japanese food - and the owners are Chinese. I like Chinese food and Chinese people - but I want the real deal as far as Thai food or Korean or whatever. Also - great service here but not over the top. Quiet and clean. A little small but cozy. But having spent three weeks in Thailand last month and the allure of playing hooky on a Federal holiday brought me back and I was inspired by the warm service and tasty food served quickly. Del Ray cuteness in Thai. Post workout Monday meal brought us here. Cozy and rather quick. We started with soups. I ordered gung jued. Chicken broth, minced chicken, veggies, tofu and crystal noodles. Yum! I could've used a little bit of sriacha to spice it up, but it was great the way it was as well. I ordered Chicken Pa-Ram (chicken in a peanut sauce) for dinner. I had never had it before, so this was something new to me. It was a thicker version of the peanut dressing you get on salads. I wasn't that big of a fan. I ate the meat with the broccoli that it came with and was happily full pretty fast. I think once the weather gets a little better, I'd love to sit on their outdoor patio. We shared edamame before the meal, and I could have used a flaky, Kosher salt as opposed to the granular they had. But it was fine. A friend introduced this place to me and I'm always hesitant about going to Thai place because it's always the same food. Man was I wrong. They had some appetizers on there that got me excited. Chive dumplings was awesome, and they had a garden roll that didn't use rice but instead some breading. Fun and different! Love it. Ordered Basil Duck, Panang Curry Chicken and Drunken Noodle Beef. All very tastey but nothing that was immensely different but definetely tastey. I agreed with their portion size for the price of food given. I discovered Thai Peppers a little over a year ago on a whim and am so glad that I did. I really like this place. I have had all of the curries, the pad thai, the drunken noodle, and many of the appetizers. I have not had a meal that I did not like. If you want spicy, make sure to tell them you want it "Thai hot"-- after a friend requested this, it was hot enough to make him start sweating (and he's Indian). Their lunch combos are good as well. Not only is the food good, but so is the service-- everyone is always friendly and helpful. I came here for a birthday dinner with 15 friends -- they were very accommodating and gave us separate checks without a problem. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner last Saturday because we were in the mood for Thai food and we live in the Del Ray area. We were seated downstairs and there were available seating. Although small, it is cozy. We didnt view, but there is seating upstairs and there is seating outside. We ordered the spring rolls for an appetizer, which were great. It came with two spring rolls and they cut each one in six pieces, so it was easy to dip in the plum sauce. For the entree, (which were both the chef specialties), my boyfriend and I split the Duck Basil and the Clay Pot Shrimp. SO DELICIOUS and filling. Not quite as flavorful as other thai restaurants, but being the only thai restaurant in the del ray area, they don't really have to compete that hard for business. Delivery is slow, so we just get carryout (15 mins). The decor in the building is cozy, and the appearance of the food tempts you into thinking you're about to eat something tastier than what you're actually getting.
