This has quickly become my new takeout staple. The portions are great and the service is quick. I would be mindful of the spice ratings. If you want something to be mild, ask for no spice. I moved to the KC area from California less than a year ago. One of my biggest complaints was that I had yet to have good Thai food here. I'd tried several places and had just about given up hope - until Thai Place was recommended to me. This place is the real deal! The flavors are vibrant and tasty, everything complements each other perfectly, and the Thai iced tea did not disappoint. Price is a little more than I'm used to paying, but well worth it. Excellent pad Thai! I have spent years perfecting my own recipe but for a home cook it's a hassle... So many steps, so many ingredients...! The "medium" was plenty spicy for me, anymore and the burn would have obliterated the flavor. Loved my Thai iced tea and the crab Rangoon that was on my entree plate were lighter and crisper than I thought possible. Decades ago, a pop singer sang a song about ...'I've got a pair of brand new roller skates...' Well as of today, I've got a brand new favorite Thai restaurant! After Sweet Siam left a convenient travel radius from work, heartbroken, I sought a new one. Today I tried Thai Place, and I've signed up for continued visitation! You'll find a nice variety of dishes available on their menu, all adjustable by level of fire. I started with the soup of the day which was hot/sour and it delivered both, wrapped in an enchanting undercurrent of sweetness. Main lunch selection was Beef with peanuts. It contained several vegetables--onion, variety of peppers, in a thin (no cornstarch here) complimentary broth--with of course the promised beef slices, peanuts and Thai red pepper flakes. Mine was medium and it was a perfect heat level. The luncheon surprise was two dainty crab rangoon delivered on top of a perfectly cooked mound of rice. (With the heat present, the rice was a welcome addition!) I must say the service was very attentive and prompt. Now the best part: This place makes a REAL Mai Tai cocktail!! This place is really wonderful! Like other reviewers have said, the crab ragoon is to die for. We also had an order of both the chicken and tofu pad Thai. The tofu was a little less fried than I prefer (but still wonderful! This is just a preference). We listened to another reviewer about the medium spice being way too hot and opted for no spice. We wish we'd gone with the spice level in the middle of these two options. Our meals came with a salad that we wish we'd ordered dressing on the side for. Service was INCREDIBLE!!! This restaurant used to be good many years ago. Something changed roughly 11-12 years ago and the quality declined. We gave this place another try Friday night. It was okay at best. The Phad Thai was missing something and the Panange chicken what missing some depth in its flavor. We asked our server if Ann still owned the place. She said no. At least now we now know why the quality went down. It certainly not the worst Thai food I have had. I am just not sure why people think this is the best Thai restaurant in KC. Tonight was our most recent visit. Man, are these people friendly and accommodating. We showed up a little after 9, and they had decided to close early for the 4th of July holiday since it was slow. We were greeted warmly, told we were the last table, seated immediately. The food was fast and amazing as always. They repeatedly insisted for us not to hurry, and to enjoy our meal. food: our entree items (mussaman curry & beef grapow) were fantastic. like we assumed, mussaman curry was a sweet peanut sauce curry with chicken, potatoes, and other veggies. my friend selected 'mild'. i would add again, the sauce is distinctively sweet*. i personally loved it, and so did my friend. however, there are some of you who prefer savory, so this dish is not meant for you. i loved my beef kow nha lhad grapow. i asked for medium heat, thinking i can take the heat (let's calibrate for one minute. in my mind i think, 'kimchi heat' is not even a thing, but jalapeño peppers are definitely spicy), but the waitress advised well to recommend something between mild and medium heat! she brought sauce on the side in the case i wanted more kick. loved my dish! i enjoyed it bite by bite. i was going to select 'chicken', but asked about the more popular meat choice. it is usually either pork or beef, of which i changes my choice to beef. the minced beef sautéed in brown sauce was so satisfying, and i loved the sprigs of basil leaves mixed into the dish. the portion of my dish was very generous, great for famished reatauranters. my friend and i split the coconut shrimp appetizer. i am sorry to say i was not a fan of it. the battered shrimp tasted like it was fried in old oil (i am not* suggesting poor food hygiene, let the reader understand), and the bed of sweet potato tempura fries tasted undercooked. quite a bummer! i am sure it was only one of those one time, unfortunate experiences. i am open to give it another try! service: delightful, delightful staff! they were attentive, friendly, and quick to deliver. full house and, still, nothing less! know that you will be taken care of read more

Let me say this clearly - the food here is absolutely delicious...but there is a caveat. It's only if you dine in. This location has been here for a long time and has always served delicious food. The reason I'm giving it one star is for carry out. They pack the hot food in styrofoam containers. I ordered a couple weeks ago (for the first time) and got home excited to eat. When I got home I could smell a very strong plastic smell from the food. When I removed the drunken noodles from the styrofoam container and transferred it into a plate I noticed the the surface of the styrofoam container was burned and the food in contact with it smelled like plastic. DO NOT ORDER CARRY OUT FROM HERE. Unless your okay with your food having a lingering plastic smell. Only eat at this location if your dine in. read more

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A GOOD THAI PLACE IN THE AREA FOR TWO YEARS AND I HAVE FINALLY FOUND IT! Ever since I moved to Kansas City, I have been craving and missing the food I used to get from a Thai restaurant in which I lived. Lulu's and Sweet Siam had been recommended to me and while there is nothing wrong with their food (I especially love the freshness of Lulu's) it does not taste authentic or it tastes like the seasonings are "watered" down for a more "American" taste. If am ordering blazing hot food at Lulu's just so I can taste it, that is a problem. The first time I went to Thai Place I ordered the Pad Thai Gaeng Dang and I will be hard pressed to ever try anything different. I ordered at a spice level of medium + and the waitress warned me that it was pretty spicy. I said "ok" because I have been used to eating "watered" down Thai food. And she was right. It was too hot for me lol. My nose and eyes watered while I slowly ate this delicious and spicy meal but it was still awesome! Since then I have returned and ordered my food at a medium---I SHOULD be a true medium at a real Thai food restaurant. So my advice to you is that they do have authentic spice levels. The crab rangoon also excellent. My sister ordered the regular phad thai but I preferred the flavors of my dish that is a slight variation on phad thai. I have also tried the cashew nut and that was great but the noodles are where it is at here. The portions are also enormous so expect to take some food home! Fortunately, most of the dishes make for tasty leftovers. I cannot say enough good things about this place! It disheartens me that some people complained that they would not serve them close to closing time. The first time I visited I got there about 30 minutes before closing and the staff did inform us that the kitchen was closing soon and kind of hurried us along. When they say they close at 9:00, they truly want to close at 9:00. I think customers are used to coming in 5 minutes before closing and expecting to go ahead and be waited on. My only advice is that maybe they should close at 8:00 and serve people up until 8:00 and then they could be out of there by 9:00 with less complaints perhaps. I don't know. This restaurant is not on any of the food delivery apps but you can place takeout orders on their website and pick them up yourself. I came here on Thanksgiving-Eve with family to enjoy a non-turkey meal together and we had a great time! We met at 5:30, and I'm glad we came early because this place definitely fills up in the evenings. I have traveled extensively around Thailand, so I consider myself a bit of a Thai food snob, and this place is a solid option. They didn't have my favorite dish, which is a street-food style spicy soup, but they did have a lot of other options. I typically go for a yellow curry if I'm really hungry, but prefer to choose fried rice if I want leftovers! My table all ordered different items so I was able to try a few curries, the pad thai, and my own yellow curry fried rice. The mild fried rice had zero spice, so I will probably order medium next time. My main con with this place is the price point. I feel it is about 3-4 dollars too high per menu item for what you get, compared to similar restaurants I have enjoyed in more expensive cities. I assumed this would be less expensive than my favorite Thai spot downtown, but I was wrong! Bottom line, I'll definitely come back if a friend suggests it, but if I am choosing Thai for dinner, I will choose elsewhere. read more

We got in and out in under an hour for lunch and enjoyed $7.50 heaping plates of Pad Thai with crab rangoons! The lunch special comes with soup or salad. The hot and sour soup definitely has heat as well as large pieces of mushroom but they're tender and flavorful. I loved it.
