Tried on a lark, was in the area. Surprisingly (for a Thai place) the food was uninspired and lacked any significant flavor, other than too much salt. The portions were also very small, $2.50 for rice that was little more than a thimble full. The $13 Shrimp Salad was true to its name -- Shrimpy. The salmon dish was bland and unseasoned. We had the seasonal pineapple curry (were hoping to try the pumpkin,but not in season), vegetable pad Thai and finished with the mango sticky rice. Everything was excellent! Service was great! I was visiting Carlsbad with a few girlfriends and we all had an intense craving for Thai food. As we were staying at the Park Hyatt Riviera we yelped & luckily found that this place was close to us. Unfortunately we were all extremely disappointed by the food (the pad Thai had way too much sauce & the noodles were overcooked), and the portion sizes like many others have said are way too small. When it opened it was extremely good. Now it is barely satisfactory although it was crowded. I had Pad Thai with shrimp, and there was not very much in the way of veggies and the shrimp was old and the noodles rubbery and stuck together. The service was fair and I was not offered any water. We've passed this place up lots of times in favor of going next door to the Indian place. SO MUCH TIME TO MAKE UP FOR!!! Thai Society is awesome! The place is very clean, beautiful even....cute pillows on the booth seats! The service was terrific, friendly and fast. The food was delicious and had great presentation. The food here is delicious and the service is solid. You can't go wrong with the Green Curry with chicken and a side of brown rice or the Thai BBQ chicken with sticky rice. That being said, this beautiful little place located near the stater bros and Barnes n nobles absolutely finds itself in the field of calming atmosphere, great vibes and most of all GREAT FOOD!!! My husband and I use 4 items to rate a thai food place: 1) tom yum soup; 2) spring rolls; 3) Pad Thai; 4) Fried banana dessert. The soup was flavorful and filled with veggies; Spring rolls were pretty good, but nothing to write home about (the dipping sauces for the rolls were good though); Pad thai was not sticky/clumpy which is a huge plus for me! There is only a shrimp or chicken option no tofu in the noodles? The chicken still had feathers on it. Not what I wanted to see. Really unappealing. Had the fried egg and pork belly. Which is really a hard boiled egg in pumpkin or clove broth with nasty meat. Avoid. The fried spring rolls where yuck. The green curry blah. The drunken noodles uninspiring. Probably my 5th time eating here and i have nothing but good things to say. Yellow curry is everything it should be, spicy, rich and delicious. Yummm. I love Thai Society! The reason why this is a four star instead of five is for two reasons, for one when ordering your food their spicy level ranges on a day to day basis, what this means is that one day a level three will be extremely spicy and you wont want to finish it (I'll admit I am a wussy with spicy food) and then on the other side it can be perfectly cooked and will not burn your mouth when eating your food. My other reason for not giving Thai Society a five star is their lunch special :( it is only Monday to Friday before 3 (they close mid day and re open later at night) and do not have their special on the weekend. Their lunch special is amaaaazing. I usually get drunken noodles with a spicy level of three with chicken. This comes with two triangles (they are so yummy) with a dipping sauce and a side salad with a peanuty sauce on it. Before your meal arrives they give you a soup which is okay, nothing you will crave once leaving like everything else. This may seem weird but their water is amazing too, it has fruits soaking in it to give it more flavor. I come to Thai Society at least once a week with my boyfriend or mom, this place is the best and I believe it is family owned. (P.S. they only accept credit cards if your spend $10, which you most likely will, or they will charge an additional fee) read more

She said it tasted like dog food and asked for something more like what she thought she ordered. Management came out and told us we still had to pay for the dog food stuff. Pissed me off as I come here a lot ($600 spent total) and the management has such shitty people skills, like it was our fault their food tasted nasty. The first time we ate at Thai Society it was very good. The next time was the worst dining experience I've ever had. 1.) We ordered chicken satay. I took one bite and bit into raw chicken. Back to the kitchen it went. 2.) Service was SLOW. They were filling take out orders left and right but largely ignoring those of us dining in. 3.) Due to the SLOW service one customer in particular felt the need to loudly complain...multiple times. He was right, the service was awful, but it's an awfully small restaurant to have a bellyacher. Not Thai Society's fault that he was complaining but they could have taken care of him faster to avoid the meltdowns. 4.) I ordered vegetarian curry and asked that they put every vegetable they had in it. What I got was curry sauce with a few carrots and greens of some sort. It had taken them 45 minutes to bring out this disappointment and I didn't feel like waiting longer so I ate the over-priced bowl of nothing. We will NEVER go to Thai Society again and we will make sure our friends know to go to the other Encinitas Thai restaurants, NOT this one. read more

Just came here for the first time and I got the pra ram (sp?) Broccoli spinach carrot with tofu and peanut sauce, which I've gotten many times other places. They only cooked the sauce and tofu! I would have liked to know I was ordering raw vegetables with hot sauce and tofu poured over, sorta like "hot salad". It was ok but since not everyone has great teeth for chewing through raw veggies I would've liked to know... The fried spring rolls were cooked and they were good and the edamame was unusual in a good way. The other dish, pad se ewe was cooked and looked good. We have been coming here and supporting this small business for years. Today, we ordered delivery and the order was only half complete. We called and the manager refused to acknowledge any responsibility for delivery as they don't partner with delivery services. The food we received was wrapped in a bag and tied in a knot like they always do. The fact that they were not willing to make it right by either making the part of the order that was missed or refunding the meal that never came is unacceptable and bad business.
