In the past they have had excellent quality and delivery, since 2018 everything has changed. Most recent order was thru Uber Eats, instead of calling them direct... not only was the order 30 minutes late and cold, because they made the delivery driver wait 45 minutes, the food was bland and the next day a giant fly was found in one order while preparing to take leftovers to work. Disgusting!!! Never again Thai Town, this makes our family sad as we really enjoyed your restaurant over the years but not the last several months. :( read more

This is the worst place ever. My kid found a strand of hair in his food that he pulled out from his mouth and I also asked for not spicy at all and it was spicy!!! My kid could not eat his food. The customer service was the worst ever, I waited for my food for almost and hour and a half and I dont think the people cooking were wearing masks either!! How is this place still open and running?? I rarely will post about a bad experience in a restaurant because we worked in the business and understand it could just be a bad day... I have to share a horrible experience with Thai Town in South Elgin. We wanted to try something new and trust me we will not go that route again. Called the order in for pick up and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes, went it took another 35 minutes waiting. We ordered 2 pad Thai meals, sesame chicken meal and an order of calamari. While I was there the kids wanted the soda with the tapioca( which I thought would be maybe a few dollars 5.00 a piece). I was handed a tiny bag and pulled up a screen to tip her 9.00 or more on the meal I was picking up, they would deliver for 6.00. We are all for tipping but really... I did tip 3.00 like a fool.. The drinks the kids threw out because they said it tasted like bleach. Charged 9.95 we were given literally 8 calamari. They told my son when he questioned why it was so small that calamari is expensive??? We came home and I was just so disgusted and showed my husband so he called the owner got on the phone and he explained to her that he wanted half our money back because it was so bad. She said bring it all back and we said fine we will be right there ( it was terrible). The son called before we left screaming "How dare you talk to my mother that way and my husband said I was very nice to your mother but I am very very dissatisfied with your service and food. The son said keep the food and fight your bank, I will not give you back your money!!! They said they have to feed their family and could not give a refund to us and my husband said he was simply trying to feed his family and it was unacceptable food and service. The 8 calamari were literately rubber bands dipped in breading served with a watered down sweet and sour sauce..... Longest post I have ever written... Located in back of a strip mall on McLean blvd, this place is a real gem when you want carry-out. Tonight we had chicken pepper, sweet and sour shrimp. And. Egg rolls. The chicken dish was loaded with sliced chicken and fresh vegetables in a savory sauce that was good enough to drink. The sweet sour shrimp had ample jumbo shrimp and bits of just the right amount of vegies and pineapple. The egg rolls were crisp and done just right. It was, in sum, a terrific meal. If you are in the area, and even if you have to drive a bit, isn't great Thai food worth it? read more

Funky little take out counter that's hidden in the back of a liquor store. Let's start out with the good. Their curry is fantastic. Both the brown and yellow curry I tried were great. I highly recommend the curry puffs appetizer. They're like little curry chicken empanadas. Wifey Poo's peanut shrimp was pretty good too. My pad Thai was good but kinda bland. Definitely nothing interesting about it. The only let downs were the tiny, bland egg rolls (although the sauce was great) and the crab rangoons that were teeeeeeeeny and not so great. It's easy for me to say that this is one of my all time favorite restaurants ever. About a year prior, I had gotten hooked on Thai food while working at an internship back home. When I moved to the suburbs in 2008, one of the first things I did was look for a great Thai restaurant. I looked around for awhile and I found one, but it wasn't this one, it was one about 20 minutes away near the St. Charles mall (Don't worry this all ties together). One day I was closer to my uncle's house (where I was staying at the time) and really craving Thai food. I didn't feel like driving all the way over to the other restaurant on such a dreary night. At that point I started driving in and out of stripmalls looking for just an Asian restaurant to satisfy me. That's when I found Thai Town. I walked in and immediately felt at ease. It's a very comfortable restaurant, a little small, but I'm from a small town so it helped with a little home sickness. I was quickly greeted and seated by a very friendly waitress. I saw duck, my personal favorite, on the menu and ordered. I took one bite and it solidified that I was never going back to that other Thai restaurant. The other restaurant was still a great restaurant, but Thai Town blew it out of the water. I quickly became a regular and was there weekly and had gone through the whole menu. One of the remarkable things about this restaurant came about a year ago. I moved to Elk Grove about 4 months after discovering the restaurant. I would go back sporadically but life got crazy and I didn't go back for about 2 1/2 years. Then one day I was in the area with my girlfriend and mom. We were debating where to eat when Thai Town popped into my head. I suggested it and my mom got excited because she had always loved the place. I was worried though because they say nothing is as good as you remember it, apparently not the case because the food tasted just as good that day as the last time I had been there. On top of that, the staff remembered me after all this time. I now make it a point to make it back. The menu you very diverse with enough choices to satisfy everyone. The duck panang is one of my favorites but all the duck dishes have been delicious. By far my favorite dish on the menu though is the pad kee mao. To me, It's the perfect dish; that's so hard for me to describe. This particularly dish is one of my top five favorite dishes ever. A frequent problem with many Thai restaurants is grease but It's virtually nonexistent here. Tofu believe it or not is another big plus here. The kitchen prepares it so that it has a creamy interior with a crispy exterior. All in all, do yourself a favor and check out this place if you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere and fantastic Thai food. Order some jasmine tea, the pad kee mao, and just relax. read more

Excellent Thai food in South Elgin, iL? NO F'in WAY. We've been to the BBQ place next door and since Akina in Elgin closed down due to the construction here. We hit up Thai Town. We were delightfully impressed. The owner took a lot of time in decorating and providing a great environment. I liked the mixture of thai culture pictures and Muay Thai photos (I'm a big MMA fan). We were seated quickly and the waitress was very friendly. We ordered a couple of appetizers (chicken satay and some shumai dumplings), both were very tasty and as our entrees I got the pad thai and my wife got the red curry. The pad thai was pretty good but my wife's red curry with chicken was awesome. I love the coconut milk curries and this one was one of the best I've ever had. My parents love this place... I went for the first time when I came home to visit for Christmas and got the cashew chicken with peppers and water chestnuts...my favorite! We got a few egg rolls and my parents ordered the pad Thai, which is what they get every single time. We actually walked in after they were closed, but were still greeted with smiles and they were very friendly. They had our food ready in less time than estimated and they even gave us some free crab Rangoon, which made my day after several hours of traveling. I love Thai Town. I tried it because I Knew there were things here that I could eat even with my "gluten allergy". I was surprised at how pretty it is inside their establishment. Every time I go It's never super busy. A lot of the time I'm the only person in there. I would assume a lot of people order take out from Thai Town, because whenever I go in there I see someone paying for a takeout order. The people who work here have always been so nice and respectful to myself and anyone I bring with. They are also SUPER FAST in preparing your meal. I see a lot of people complaining about them being "ONION HAPPY" at Thai Town....But I LOOOOVE onions. I love every dish I have ever had there. We have had consistently good food at Thai Town. They are in South Elgin where Blue Razz and a few other places used to be. The restaurant is clean and the service friendly and efficient. We had chicken with peanut sauce and my husband had the rice noodles with yellow curry. We shared the cucumber salad (although my garden is overflowing, it was nice to have them somewhere else) and the egg rolls. Bathrooms were just ok - they were in the night club part. Need updating and a good hose-down. I hope they stay open a long time -- seems they have a good take-out business. read more

A friend and I visited Thai Town on 6/21, just after lunch about 1:30PM. We were the only people in the restaurant the whole time. Now, I didn't consider that bad, maybe just hit at a bad time. Nevertheless, my order consisted of the Pad Thai with Chicken, not the lunch portion - the regular dinner portion. The appetizer we ordered was the Pot Stickers. Both were very good and I would order them again. The Pot Stickers were deep fried, not steamed. The hot sauce we got on the side was very good and not so super hot that I couldn't have it. This place really overprices their seafood. The regular soup is 7.95 and with seafood it's 16.95. It shouldn't be a $9 difference just to add a few pieces of shrimp. For regular seafood (shrimp) fried rice it's 16.95 and the beef, chicken and pork fried rice are 9.95, but as soon as you make it combo fried rice (one fourth of each meet all combined together) the price goes back up to 16.95. So because we didn't care that much about the shrimp we decided to ask the waiter how much it would be. He said, "I guess that would be 13.95." It feels like we are negotiating the price of the food. The restaurant has not been very busy when I've gone there, but I guess that's because I eat earlier than most people. It's got a depressing atmosphere. I wouldn't recommend going there when you were looking for music or more than one waiter. read more

If I were writing this review based on food quality alone this would have been a solid 5 star review BUT you do have to pay for the food and pay is exactly what you'll do a lot of at Thai Town. Our take out order this week for a family of four was over $80 and this is not the result of over ordering - this is three entrees (none seafood) two soups and two appetizers, 2 iced teas - no tip. Don't let the larger containers for take out fool you - our dishes at home didn't change size when Thai Town moved to their new location so although their containers got bigger, the amount of food in my bowls at home was about the same. I don't mind paying for great food and portions but these prices are higher than I can justify and unfortunately means we won't frequent this tasty choice for local Thai so enjoy the food but have your wallet handy, you'll need it! read more

Do NOT order from this place. Their delivery service is DoorDash and not only did I have to give the driver directions over the phone to get him to my place, he gave me the wrong order. I'm a vegetarian and I was given food with shrimp and meat potstickers. I'm allergic to mushrooms and was sent soup with mushrooms in it. When I called to complain, the manager told me to contact DoorDash because "once we hand it to them to deliver, it's no longer our responsibility. We aren't responsible if they mess up." He offered to remake the order and drop the food off to me after they closed at 10:00. I called at 8:45. When I refused, he again told me to take it up with DoorDash. When I asked him about a refund, he became angry and insisted that I needed to speak with DoorDash. I told him that was ridiculous. He then started yelling at me about how it wasn't his fault, he had no workers, and what was he supposed to do. When he started to threaten to send the cops to my house, I hung up. I have filed a complaint with DoorDash and if Thai Town is going to have such obnoxious people on their management staff, they have definitely lost my business. A little word since we are super close to South Elgin. but whatever, we're willing to pay. The customer service is great too. The Pad Thai is where it's at! Decent Thai for the area! Our fav was the Mongolian beef which was SPICY good!!!! Take spicy seriously!! The curry flat noodle dish we won't get again it was very thick. Pineapple fried rice had really good flavor! We also order potstickers and crab Rangoon for an App, which unfortunately arrived soggy and didn't have that tasty crunch which would have made them perfectly delicious. Good rating on yelp so I gave it a shot and ordered from uber eats. Huge mistake! I got pad Thai with chicken which should be an easy standard dish. Noodles were over cooked to a mushy consistency. There were nice size pieces of decent chicken but not a discernible vegetable in the container and it literally tasted like ketchup which not only do I not like but should not be a taste you get from pad Thai.
